Another thing I appreciate about Black Sails is that. They didn't randomly "make" Flint gay, or in love with another man for diversity points or whatever — which would also be fine I mean I'll take any representation, but which has a tendency feel artificial and manufactured.
Toby Stephens (James Flint) said in an interview that they told him from the beginning where they were going with James Flint's character, namely that he was in love with Thomas Hamilton. It's an integral part of the storyline and of who Flint is. So when we are shown their love for the first time in season 2 episode 5 it isn't like. A ha-ha gotcha reveal – except if you're a basic dudebro —but rather it makes all the pieces of Flint's character and of his relationship with Miranda pieces slide into place and you go "Oh. Oh. That's what it was."
#and it's brilliant and emotional and touching and MAKES SENSE#like from the beginning when there's mention of Flint having a woman you have things you expect from their relationship#which are confirmed initially#they care a great deal for each other#she has Flint's ear and yadda yadda#but then inconsistencies with that model start to show#there is a pain lingering underneath their interactions#even as there is love#he doesn't enjoy sex with her#you can see there is something invisible tying them together#and that's their love for Thomas#anyway it's brilliant#black sails

Ohhh aurora and joshua⁉️⁉️ SO CUTE, I'm imagining the members reaction when they got together or when they announced they're having a child. Soooo please can I request that HAHAHAH THANK YOU!! 💖
“Surprise…?”

timeline: january 2022
synopsis: while having a group dinner with the members, aurora is fed up with having to keep her big news to herself. so aurora does what a normal human being would: she tells them duh.
a/n: OMG TY ANON FOR THIS REQUEST! i think this is actually so cute and i had so much fun writing this, so i hope u enjoy reading! also this is not really proofread, so ignore any mistakes you see!
it had been a week since aurora found out she was pregnant. joshua was absolutely ecstatic and had been all over her all week. having kids was one of areum’s biggest dreams, so for it to become a reality was so surreal for her. telling josh was already chaotic, but telling the members? oh it would be something to remember. aurora hadn’t actually figured out a way to tell them, but her heart was telling her to just break it to the boys casually. soo… that’s exactly what she’s planning to do.
“HELLOOO!!” dk’s loud voice filled the hallway as he and the other 11 members made their way into the couple’s penthouse.
“guys. just because i gave you a key to my house, doesn’t mean you can break in unannounced.” aurora playfully rolled her eyes, still walking out to greet the boys.
“but didn’t you invite us over?” hoshi asked genuinely confused.
“she was implying that you were supposed to knock first, dipshit.” woozi reached up to slap the back of the boy’s head.
as the night went on with dinner going smoothly, they all decided to play drinking games. obviously beginning with their famous ninja star game. seungkwan started off the game by throwing the invisible (nonexistent) star at the maknae. each of them imagining the star being launched across the table stabbing dino in his neck. the boy’s face contorted in fake pain, grasping a hand over his neck where he was supposedly hit. this resulted in areum letting out a small giggle, which is quite out of the ordinary because she’s usually able to keep a straight face every time they play this game.
seungkwan let out a sound of disbelief. “oh, noona laughed,” he pointed a finger at her, clearly stating the obvious.
bacardi bacardi bacardi yah, the boys sang. wonwoo poured the girl a shot of alcohol and handed it to her saying, “drink bro.”
she held up a hand, rejecting the glass, “ahh i can’t drink today. can someone else drink for me?”
now this really left the members confused. first, aurora laughed during the star game which she’s normally really good at. and second, she rejected a shot of alcohol.
“yah, what the fuck is wrong with you? are you sick or something?” mingyu asked with a joking tone.
“no, i’m not sick. i’m just… pregnant,” aurora mumbled the last word.
“speak up arie, we can’t hear you,” jeonghan told her.
“i said, i’m not sick. just pregnant.” the girl said much louder this time.
jun’s mouth dropped open, vernon choked on his water, and minghao spat out the bits of ramen in his mouth. it was like the members froze for a second. the boys who are always so loud and rowdy, now silenced by aurora’s sudden confession.
dokyeom was the first to speak up, “are you being for real right now reumie?”
“surprise…?” she shrugged awkwardly as if it wasn’t that big of a deal.
she pulled out the pregnancy test nestled in her hoodie’s pocket to prove that she wasn’t joking. with areum’s confirmation, booseoksoon erupted in excited squeals, the rest running over to the girl to tackle her in a hug. the room filled with oh my god i’m gonna be an uncle, can i be the godfather, and shua hyung’s gonna be a dad? as they all ran around in excitement, seungcheol stood up from where he was at the table and walked over to sit down in the chair next to aurora’s.
the leader embraced her in a warm hug, “does the company know?”
“oh my god cheol. i seriously do not wanna think about the company’s reaction to my pregnancy right now,” she rolled her eyes, breaking away from s.coups’ arms.
he chuckled, “okay okay i’m sorry. i just- i’m just worried for what they’re gonna think about the news.”
“and so am i, but right now i just wanna focus on myself and the baby. i will make sure to tell you when i do tell them,” aurora reassured him.
“if you tell them that is,” seungcheol raised a brow, causing areum to giggle.
after the leader left to go talk to joshua instead, dino slid into his now vacant seat. “areumie noona, are you gonna replace me with your baby?” he questioned genuinely curious.
“no chan, i could never. you will always be my first baby,” after hearing her words, the boy relaxed in his seat.
“GUYS! you know what would be a really good name for the baby, and this goes both ways girl and boy by the way. you could name it hoshi junior. after me AND tigers!”
“hell no. there is no way i’m naming my kid after you,” joshua shook his head.

invisible string .ᐟ
Paring; anakin x reader
Prompt; 'And isn't it just so pretty to think. All along there was some Invisible string tying you to me?'
Requested; anon
Notes; reqs and inbox are open !
Masterlist | Taylor Swift masterlist
Fate wasn’t something you truly believed in. The force sure, but fate? That was something children were told to help keep them optimistic or explain coincidences which were just slightly too perfect - parental intervention or not.
Things happened for a reason - but fate was not a reason.
Anakin Skywalker however seemed to be determined to make you believe that fate was real and that it was fate that the two of you ended up in the hallway and the same time at the exact moment a droid decided to trip you up and right into his arms.
Of course, you’d heard of him but you’d never met him. Your master had once described life as being led by a little golden string. Every event was linked and sometimes some people's strings intertwined together when those people were meant to meet.
Anakin seemed convinced that your strings were meant to intertwine and he was doing everything he could to make sure you knew this. First, it was the fact that you were both born on Tatooine and then it became the fact that you both were in the same youngling group (you never spoke) and finally the fact that you both just happened to have quarters in the same wing.
You continued to push that “it’s just a coincidence. It’s not fate, we’re the same age of course we’d be in the same temple group.” Every time Anakin would simply laugh before shrugging and making a comment about how. “A coincidence is fate.” He’d grin wrapping an arm over your shoulder and joining you on whatever errand you were running.
Though Anakin Skywalker was anything if not determined. And he was determined to make you see that your meeting was years in the making - every little action had led to your strings intertwining more and more until that one day in the corridor.
⋆·˚ ༘ *⋆·˚ ༘ *⋆·˚ ༘ *
“Can I help?” You jumped slightly as a voice broke through the silence and you whipped around to find Anakin grinning back at you, half his body hidden behind the door frame.
“How did you even find me?”
“I have my ways.”
“You asked half the temple didn't you?”
“...No”
You huffed as he stepped closer to where you were currently sat hunched over a droid which you’d spent the last three hours trying to fix. “You look a bit stuck there.” Anakin gestured to the parts strewn all over the floor before crouching down to pick one up.
“Use this. It’s easier to tighten the smaller bolts.” He pressed the tool into your hand with a small smile. You frowned blinking at him for a moment before nodding and taking the tool. “Thanks.” You did as he said and quickly found him to be right.
The bolt tightened almost immediately and Anakin made a small noise of satisfaction as you stared down at the bolt. You’d spent the last half an hour trying to get the damn thing to tighten and he’d solved it in less than a minute.
“See. Like I said, much easier.” He squeezed your shoulder before moving to sit down properly beside you. “Here.” He reached over to gently take the tool and the droid. “Let me.”
He worked in relative silence for a while as you watched. “Why are you so obsessed with the idea of befriending me?” Your words surprised you - the thought not meant to have left your lips but Anakin simply smiled.
“Because, I think you're an interesting person.” His shoulder bumped yours “And like I said it does seem kinda like fate that we just happened to have so much in common before we even spoke.” You huffed rolling your eyes as he laughed quietly.
“Remember that little thread that we were taught about?”
“Of course I do.”
“Yeah, that little thread is like fate-”
“Anakin-”
He simply cut you off placing the droid down. “I like you. And I don’t think it's a coincidence that we met.” You pursed your lips. He really wasn’t going to leave this alone. “It’s too perfect that we just happen to be from the same town and spent most of our childhoods in the same environment and never met. I think we were meant to meet when we did.”
You sucked in a breath watching him for a moment. You could almost hear the passion in his words almost. He really believed in this - that for whatever reason you were fated to meet.
“Let me prove it to you. Give me a month.” Anakin offered turning to face you fully. “Prove to you that the story about those strings was true.”

can i ask for a percy x daughter of zeus and it’s soulmate!au but only jason knows at first so he tries to get them together with the help of others and it’s really just cute and fluffy and reader and percy aren’t close at all
⋆·˚ ༘ * this love left a permanent mark

warnings: none
pairing: percy jackson x daughter of zeus
you spoke to percy jackson twice, both having awful timings. perhaps he could be considered a friend, you were unsure of the classification of your relationship with him
however when it came to you and a handful of other demigods practically living on a ship together you would speak to them more often, even if it was only something simple
when you met eyes with percy the first day on the ship you were unaware of another pair focused on the two of you- belonging to your roman brother. jason grace knew there was undeniable and insane tension between you and percy, and not the kind where you were aware of it, that was the worst part, you had been incredibly oblivious to notice the invisible string tying you to each other
and who better to get you and percy to speak other than the only daughter of aphrodite on the ship? jason went to piper the next morning and told her about the situation and a plan was made that day. from that day on they always made sure that percy would run into you or the other way around, always watching to see if you spoke. over time the more you began to see the son of poseidon the more you spoke to him. from then on you became friends, speaking as much as possible, sneaking in each others rooms (??) at night, sitting side by side at the table, normal friend things
today was a special day for you- except you were unaware of how special it would be. today a note would be slipped under your door signed by percy, asking you to meet him on the deck after everyone had gone to bed for the night. little did percy know, he would be receiving the same note, except signed by you
you invited annabeth to your room to help you get ready, she sits on your bed criticizing every piece of clothing you own
“how about this sweater and these jeans withhh…” you throw the clothing on your bed and reach underneath to grab your shoes “these docs?”
“are you going to take a walk around stars hollow?” she remarks
“okay” you cross your arms “then you find something”
she gets up happily and walks to your dresser, searching through your tops until she pulls out a simple floral shirt
“wear this instead of the sweater” she throws it on your bed with the rest of the clothes
“it’s freezing outside”
“exactly! you’ll get cold and he’ll give you his sweatshirt, how romantic!”
she takes the previous clothes sitting on your bed and organizes them back in your drawers. once she finishes she gives you a pat on the shoulder with encouraging words of comfort
“I’ll see you tomorrow. I want details”
and with that she walks out and you begin to dress. once finished you take a deep breath and make your way to the deck where you find percy already waiting
“hey stranger”
he turns around with a wide smile “I thought you’d never come”
you shake your head before placing your arms on the cold railing, staring out at the midnight sea
“so why’d-” - “why did you-”
you both break into a fit of giggles
“you go first” percy says
“why’d you invite me out here? not that I mind it, it’s beautiful but it’s freezing”
“you’re cold?”
you nod and percy wastes no time taking his sweatshirt off, handing it to you
damn annabeth! why must she always be right?
you mutter a quick ‘thank you’ before sliding the clothing piece over your head. It smells just like percy- the ocean and a hint of his cologne- and you never want to take it off
“uhm, anyways, I thought you invited me?” percy speaks
“no, you invited me”
you both pull out the notes you and revived, similarly showing it to the other
“this is the same handwriting” percy points out
you laugh “we’re totally being set up right now”
percy takes both your notes, throwing them in the water “I would’ve loved to be here with you regardless if we were set up or not”
a blush makes its way to your cheeks and you’re thankful for the dark of the night. you take notice in percy’s shivering state and hesitantly take his hand in yours
unbeknownst to the both of you, a golden string wraps around your intertwined hands. a golden string symbolizing soulmates, entwined souls meant to be for eternity. the moment is quiet, serene, however percy was sure his heart would combust any second when you move closer. he runs his thumb over your knuckles, a comforting action in most situations, but it encourages the butterflies to use their wings and fly through his insides. would it be too soon to kiss you?
he leans in, just about, but before he takes another step he searches your eyes for any signs showing you don’t want this, but your encouraging gaze tells him otherwise, so he takes the chance to connect his lips with yours in a passion-filled kiss. he hopes this moment never ends
little did he know you thought the same, in the same way you didn’t expect to have many moments like these in the future, and for eternity
#xoxochb#the ending was rushed I’m sorry 😭#there’s a tlgad reference someone please tell me you see it#percy jackon and the olympians#pjo series#pjo fandom#percy jackson#pjo#percy series#pjo hoo toa#percy jackson x y/n#percy jackson x you#percy jackson x reader#percy jakson

"Give me your hand." Moon Knight's white, bandaged arm reached for yours, but your stubbornness alone stopped you as you wrenched yourself free of his grasp.
"I don't need you to hold my hand," you told him, peering over the building's edge to the street below, several stories down. "I'm gonna jump."
"The hell you are," he protested, yanking on your arm. "Hold on to me. I'll get you down."
Although he wasn't tall for a superhero, he was strong enough to make a point.
"You can't even fly. How are you supposedly going to 'get me down'?"
Luminous white orbs fixed on you as he cinched you close to his side. "It's a full moon. Try not to scream...at least not until I get your pants off."
You couldn't see his face but you were certain he was smirking.
He leapt over the side of the building, dragging you with him. Despite how much you wanted to resist his help, you couldn't fly, and you didn't want to die, so you held on tightly, tucking yourself into him - arms wound around him trustingly and your face pressed into the gauzey fabric covering his throat.
He smelled like ancient secrets and sun drenched sands. Warm and woody, enticing your eyes closed as you entrusted your life to his embrace.
The wind in his cape, the power of the full moon and his years of experience helped him slow your shared descent through the night sky. Hitting the pavement with an inconsequential thud, you barely had time to get your footing before he grabbed your hand again. "Let's go."
"I think I can take it from here, Lunar Legionnaire." You mockingly tossed out one of his recent media nicknames, wrenching your hand away from his, but following his lead to an abandoned warehouse.
"In here," he directed. "Those things are still following us. They have our scent."
"Then we better not stay here," you reasoned. "Unless the great Fist of Khonshu needs to catch his breath?"
"Hilarious." White eyes narrowed into judgmental slits. "You're the one panting, sweetheart." He moved in closer. "Or were you that excited to be close to me?"
Before you could smart off, you heard a metallic rattle and then a growl. Jackals. Supernatural, invisible jackals.
But he could see them.
"Get behind me," he ordered.
Which of course you did not, shouldering right past him. "Thanks for the ride down, but I work alone."
He groaned, squeezing his wrapped hands into fists. After bouncing on his toes for a moment, he reluctantly followed. "Got your six."
His gaze fell to the sway of your leather clad hips, down over your curves.
"That's an interesting way of letting me know you're staring at my ass."
"That's an interesting way of pretending we haven't worked four missions together."
"Look who's counting," you teased.
"Counting on this being the last one, maybe. You have a death wish or something. I'm always saving your - "
Moon Knight didn't even finish his sentence before you whirled around and leapt in his direction, firing your wrist rockets into the jackal right behind him. He ducked just in time.
And that sound drew the rest of them.
"Nice work," he groaned, racing past you, breaking into a sprint as he called back over the swish of his cape, "It's gonna be a long night."
“Hey, you’re the one following me.”
The two of you spent the next annoying half hour eliminating invisible foes, working in tandem, despite you both maintaining your loner status, at least mentally.
You finally ducked into an alley, grateful for a breather.
"Are there any more of them?" You gasped, gripping your knees as you doubled over, winded from your exertion.
"Not that I see," Moon Knight answered, giving you a once over. He didn't get as tired as you, but then again, you didn't have superpowers. It felt kind of endearing to see you not perfectly put together.
"You know, you look good like this," he commented, moving into your personal space. "Sweating. Panting. I feel like I've seen it somewhere."
He tapped his gloved finger on his masked chin, pretending to think. "Was it the last time I saved your ass?"
As badly as you wanted to retort, you were still a bit out of breath.
"Oh I remember," he went on, yanking a crescent dagger from the center of his chest. He backed you up against the wall, pinning you in place with his hips. "It was the last time you were underneath me...in Dubai."
"Bullshit. I was on top," you panted, eyes fixed on his weapon, feeling wetness pool between your legs as he pressed his obvious erection against your core. "What's that for?"
He traced the pointed dagger's edge over your bottom lip before flicking his wrist, expertly cutting through the thick fabric of your mask. Before he could pull it free and reveal your face, you struggled against him as your hand darted up to keep your mask in place.
"What the hell?" You snapped, even though you physically responded eagerly to the friction between your bodies. "No faces. That was your rule."
"Don't you ever break the rules?" He challenged, stashing his dagger and gripping your hips. Thrusting against you with a seductive pulse, he dragged you back and forth over his straining length.
"Show me yours first," you ordered, still holding your mask in place with one hand. Strangely enough, this man had been inside you twice, but you had yet to lay eyes on who he really was.
Without hesitation, he complied. His gauzey mask disappeared, revealing a man far more handsome than you expected. Dark, soulful eyes peered into yours, such a beautiful contrast to the haunting white glow.
You stared as his gaze flickered down to your parted lips.
"That bad, huh?" He half joked, quickly summoning the supernatural fabric to cover his angular features once more.
You swallowed thickly, the thought of sinking your fingers into his dark curls convincing you to slowly lower your mask, pulling it free from your face and hair.
Tilting his head, as if studying you, Moon Knight shook his head playfully. "The magic is gone."
You slugged him on the arm as he chuckled, amused with himself.
"I can't stand you."
His mask disappeared again, instantly. "I can't stand to be away from you."
His lips crashed into yours with unrestrained fervor, the force of it taking what little breath you'd regained.
You sighed into his mouth as his tongue slid over yours. Tangling your fingers into his hair, you twisted your way through his curls, which were every bit as gorgeous and soft as you expected.
"Can you make a useful part of this damn suit disappear?" You huffed, tearing your mouth from his.
Yanking at the leather of your pants, he worked you free, hoisting your thick thighs around his waist. Then, as you were anticipating, just enough of his suit vanished so that he could push his heavy, pulsing length up inside you.
"Been waiting for this all night."
“That’s an interesting way of saying you’re obsessed with me.” Despite your biting commentary, you sank against him in relief, your head thumping against the brick wall behind you, its rough surface scraping against the curve of your ass. But you didn't care. He was your drug and you were getting your fix.
"Look at me," he lowly commanded, gripping the nape of your neck and staring possessively into your eyes. Heavy, deep thrusts sent your body bucking against his. "Like that?"
"Yes, right there. Feels good."
"Thought you worked alone, sweetheart." His lips curled as your eyes flashed with defiance. "You think you can get yourself off like this?"
You shuddered, your velvet walls fluttering, clenching at the sound of his infuriating voice.
"Nah...I think we work better together.”
"Just...shut up. Keep doing that. Faster."
He went slower. But deeper, hitting something devastating within you.
"Saving your ass from jackals is worth the look on your face when you come for me."
And as if his voice alone could control your body, you came undone, your body betraying your stubborn mind, agreeing with him. And, as predicted, you might have screamed a little.
The glint in his eye didn't last long as you shuddered around him, gripping him so deliciously that he actually moaned. It sounded so good coming out of his plush lips. His clenched, corded neck tensed and bobbed as sweat dripped from a singular curl.
The sight of him losing control because of you was worth a bout with jackals and all the danger that came with it.
His hips stuttered as he tried to pull out of you, but you clamped your thighs around him and held him captive. "Stay right here."
The longer you gazed at him, the more you wanted to never see that stupid white mummy mask cover his face, ever again.
Hot breath fell on your ear as he took a minute to come back to himself.
Easing back, he touched his forehead to yours - a gentle contrast to the scandalous public encounter you'd shared.
"I'm Marc."
You felt lighter somehow, sharing a laugh with him before he kissed you deeply.
"Nice to meet you."

Lucy Gray and reader singing together, please?
INVISIBLE STRING ; LUCY GRAY BAIRD

pairing: lucy gray baird x covey!reader (not related) summary: lucy gray pitches a song to you, you don’t seem to realize what it’s about until you sing it with her on stage warnings: reader being oblivious (and jealous), mentioned that reader is fem a/n: i did change a lot of the lyrics but it's to fit the plot!! word count: 1.0k join taglist!!
Lucy Gray proposed a new song to you. “It’s kind of lovey-dovey… but I think we should play it tomorrow at the Hob.” She was nervous, only looking at you for a quick second before staring at her feet the rest of the time. What could she be so nervous about? “Well play it for me!” You beamed at her and shoved her shoulder. She grabbed her guitar from beside her and started to play for you.
The melodic notes that came out of the guitar awed you as she played. Her sweet voice blended well with background noises of the guitar, it had you mesmerized.
And isn’t it just so pretty to think? All along there was some invisible string, tying you to me.
You recognized the saying from something Maude Ivory had told you once. She had brought it up while they watched a couple dance as Lucy Gray sang. “It’s this belief I read about. It’s a string tying soulmates together, it means that the universe wants you to be together. Almost like it’s written in the stars.”
As Lucy Gray sang to you, you couldn’t help but wonder who she was singing about. “It’s probably about that peacekeeper friend of hers…” You got a stab in your ribs but from what? Jealousy? Maybe. You hadn’t thought of it before but as she was nearing the end of the song, the pain got worse.
She sang the last chorus, her voice still smooth as she sang the same lyrics; this time with a key change on the guitar. She sang oohs and ahhs while she continued to play the relaxing melody. She ended the song with a nervous smile on her face.
She began to ask you shyly, “So what do you-” You cut her off, “It’s amazing Lucy Gray, we should get the others together, so we can practice it.” You told with a smile, despite the feeling of jealousy deep within you. She blushed at your praise as she muttered a quiet, “Thanks,” You left her with a smile as you went to gather the rest of the Covey.
Something wrapped all of my past mistakes in barbed wire. Chains around my demons, wool to brave the seasons. One single thread of gold tied me to you.
You were jealous. What did he have that you didn’t? You loved Lucy Gray, you had loved her since you first met her in the hob years ago. You just didn’t know if she felt the same.
Just like every night, you and the Covey played at the Hob. But this night was different, they were playing a new song.
You and the rest of the Covey got onto the stage. Lucy Gray strutted up to the mic with an excited smile. She turned to you to give a nod, a way of telling you it was time to start. You passed the nod onto the rest of the Covey. Maude Ivory gave a thumbs up to you then looked over to Lucy Gray with a knowing smile. What were they planning?
Your thoughts were interrupted by the sound of Lucy Gray’s voice. “Hello everybody, It’s so great to see you!” She spoke to them with her usual charm.
As she spoke to the crowd, you scanned around. That peacekeeper boy wasn’t here. Guess he won’t get to hear her song.
“Tonight we’re gonna start with a new one, I call it ‘invisible string’” She told the crowd, grabbing a tambourine while Tam Amber started playing the banjo. You joined in a little after he did on the guitar, Barb Azure playing her fiddle not long after you.
Black was the color of your shirt when you were sixteen at the local bar you used to work at to make a little money.
The lyrics sounded familiar. You looked around at the rest of the Covey to see them with grinning faces. Was this song about you? Surely not, so you just pushed it to the side as you continued to play guitar along with her.
And isn’t it just so pretty to think all along there was some invisible string tying you to me.
Lucy Gray sang the chorus, turning to you with a smile as you harmonized together; you were doing a slightly higher pitch than her. You smiled back, as if nobody else was there but her.
Pure was the snow in the song in the bar when you had first met me.
She turned back to the crowd as she sang the second verse. It was about you. You get brought back to that day from the mention of it.
You had walked in to do your usual bartending shift, not expecting much entertainment but were pleasantly surprised to see a band playing. The main singer, Lucy Gray, was the most beautiful woman you had ever seen. She seemed to be smiling at someone in the crowd as she sang. She turned as she continued to sing and saw you standing there, in awe from her voice and beauty.
A string that pulled me out of all the wrong arms, right into that dive bar. Something wrapped all of my past mistakes in barbed wire.
You looked at her, and suddenly you were that same awestruck girl from back when you were just a bartender at the Hob. She looked back at you with loving eyes, you thought your knees were going to buckle, but you stood up straighter.
As the final chorus came up, Lucy Gray put down the tambourine to start snapping her fingers to the beat as she sang with you.
And isn’t it just so pretty to think? All along there was some invisible string, tying you to me.
You changed the key on your guitar as you two started to sing the same oohs and ahhs she had sung to you just the night before. Her voice was as smooth as honey while your higher and slightly gravelly voice harmonized with hers. Your opposite tones mixed perfectly together.
Your spirits matched with your voices, made for one another. You left the Hob that night with Lucy Gray on your arm knowing that you two really were written in the stars.

Chapter 43.9
I arrive at GeekCon both sweaty and with a vague sense of unease. The stifling heatwave has turned the city into a pressure cooker, and it feels foreboding, like something terrible is building and about to break free.

I’m greeted by my own face by the door, advertising the panel that I’m supposed to be on this morning. I never got comfortable seeing myself like this, I prefer it when they just use the logo or my masked promo pictures. At least today is the last time I’ll appear as Llama Man in any official capacity, and then…
Then I don’t know.

But there’ll be time to figure that out later, right now I’m about to see Julia again. I can’t believe it’s only been a year since we met, and I have no idea how she feels about me right now.
I spent most of the night in my hotel room tossing and turning, thinking about what I’ll say to her, but I still don’t have a plan. I just want to apologise for ending things so abruptly.
It really wasn’t my best work.
She said she just wanted to be with you. And then you dumped her.

I groan inwardly as I scan the faces of everyone I see. There’s no sign of her, but the cosplay competition isn’t until later, she may not have arrived yet.
I wonder if she’ll refuse to speak to me at all. I wouldn’t blame her, but she never seemed like the type to carry a grudge. I just want to see her and make sure she’s not too upset about how things ended, something I should have done months ago.
I need to make sure she doesn’t hate me. I can’t handle if she hates me.
I guess I’ll have to play it by ear, although Lee would tell me that’s not my strongest suit.

I leave my jacket in the wardrobe and linger a bit, fiddling with my VIP bracelet. The gallery’s air-conditioning is working overtime, and it helps a little with the heat but I still feel uneasy. My eyes are drawn to the bathroom door.

If this was a movie, Julia would come out of the bathroom right now, exactly like last time. Our eyes would meet. A beat, as the camera cut from her face to mine, both of us too surprised to speak. I would recover first, tell her that we can’t keep meeting like this, and her face would crack into a smile. Then she’d leap into my arms and I would kiss her like there were no tomorrow.

Get it together, Romeo. She’s not kissing you ever again, you’re going to be lucky if she even speaks to you. Focus. You’re at work.
At least I’m not in full costume this year, I would probably have died from heatstroke. And it would have made me feel silly trying to have a serious conversation with Julia.
I decide to take a quick tour of the convention floor before the panel starts.

Even though it’s still early in the day, there’s people everywhere. Some tabletop role-players are recording their podcast on location, kids are running around, and several people are dressed up despite the heat. I wish Julia had shown me pictures of the costume she was planning so I knew what to look for.

A woman with long, red hair makes me do a double take, but I know it isn’t Julia before she even turns around, the way she moves is wrong. I know every inch of Julia’s body and this isn’t it. Everything Julia is, the way she walks and talks and laughs is imprinted on my brain, and it feels like I should be able to locate her by telepathy, by following some sort of invisible string tying me to her.
“Uh, Mr. Romeo! Sorry, hello.”

“Oh, hey. Edmund, right?”
The young man beams, clearly pleased that I remember his name. His booth was next to mine last year, we talked about old movies. I wish I could introduce Julia to him, she would have loved to discuss Cow Plant Love with an expert.
“Wait, you do know him? I thought you were lying!” The teenage girl next to him sounds somewhere between impressed and angry.
“Yeah, why would I lie about that? Sorry, sir, this is my sister Liz, she’s a big fan of Llama Man.”

“Can I have your autograph? I collect them, I already got the Coolala guy and the Freezer Bunny lady this morning. Oh, and can you make it out to ‘Lizette’, with a Z, please?”
“Of course. That’s a very cool costume, Lizette with a Z.”
“I made it myself! It’s Michelle from Doherty’s Revenge, have you seen it? The one with the zombie gym teacher?”
“Oh? Haven’t heard of it, do you think I should watch it?”

“You have to, it’s so good! I used to think it was actually really scary but now I just think it’s funny. Me and Edmund watch a lot of like, retro movies with dad, we even watched the really old Llama Man movies once. I’m gonna tell my dad I met you, he won’t believe it!”
“I’m flattered. Thanks for the movie recommendation, I’ll make sure to check it out.” I hand her the autograph before waving goodbye to Edmund who mouths a silent thank you.

Retro.
I know everything seems ancient to a teenager, but the word tastes like dusty VHS tapes, like lava lamps and shag carpets, like mid-century kitchens. This is my demographic, I suppose, nostalgic dads and their excitable kids.

Julia is not in the panel crowd either, but I guess that would have been too much to hope for. I would probably have found her presence too distracting anyway.

I know one of the other panellists, Mei Zhang, the iconic voice of the Freezer Bunny for over fifteen years. We’ve met briefly at conventions and even on a few gigs, but never really got a chance to speak much.
The third panellist is a young man named Andy Okeke, who seems to be voicing a few Voidcritters as well as a bear-like creature I’ve never heard of. It’s his first time on a panel, but he’s already annoyingly good for his age, and I can imagine him having a pretty impressive career at the speed he’s going.

I answer the same questions I’ve answered a million times before and try to find some sort of comfort in the fact that it’s the last time. As much as I loved my job, it got repetitive after almost a decade. Maybe I should get that number for Sierra’s agent, try to get back on screen. Maybe I’ve grown too complacent, stagnant.
Finally, the questions dry up and the last people leave the room, and just like that, I’m free from my contract. It doesn’t feel like freedom, though, more like a free fall.
“Hey, Romeo, wait up.” Mei stops me by the doors.

“How are you doing? It must be so weird.” She shakes her head. “I don’t know what I’ll do if they ever retire Bunny.”
“You’ll still have others, won’t you?”
“I know, but I’m known for Freezer Bunny, not for… four or five Voidcritters. I can’t even keep track of their names, which is ironic since it’s all they ever say.”
I’m not sure how to respond so I just nod. I’m impatient to get to the cosplay competition, but I don’t want to be rude.

“Mei, it was great seeing you again, but I’m in a bit of a hurry, actually.”
“Sure. Would you – would you want to grab coffee some time, though?”
Shit. Before Julia, I would have gladly followed Mei home tonight, maybe we’d even go on a couple of real dates before things fizzled out as they normally do. But right now, every muscle in my body is telling me that I have to go, to move, to be somewhere else.

“Sorry, I’m, uh. Maybe another time, I don’t…”
The giant poster of my face is judging my lame attempt at stringing together a sentence, and I’m painfully aware that the woman behind us has been sweeping the same spot for a minute now, pretending not to eavesdrop.

“I’m a big girl, Romeo. If you’re not interested, that’s fine.”
“Right. I am sorry, though, it’s not…” I mumble something politely incoherent and more or less flee the room.
Fuck. One year and I’ve completely lost my touch.

I hurry up the stairs, the competition must be just about to end. I can see through the doors before I even reach them, all of the contestants are on stage – and she’s not there.

I stand in front of the doors, frozen, arm still outstretched. This doesn’t make sense, she loves this, she told me about the costume she was planning, she should be here.
There’s no time to dwell on why I so desperately need to see her again, what I would even say to her, the only thing left is fear.

What if something has happened to her? Would I ever know? We’re not together anymore and we have no friends in common, no one who would think of me or assume I’d want to know if she got hurt or sick.
She could be dead. She could be dead and I would never know.
I’m vaguely aware that I’m spiralling but I can’t stop, I feel dizzy. The heat and the lights and the people, everything is too much and I can barely see.
Somehow my feet carry me outside, to the very same bench where we talked for hours on that first night. I try to breathe, deep breaths, but the air is too warm and feels thick.

My hands shake as I log into the anonymous account I made during a moment of weakness after she blocked me, and I pull up her social media in the hopes that she posted something recently, anything that can reassure me that she’s fine.
Relief floods through me when I see the timestamp on her latest updates. San Sequoia Aquarium, just a couple of hours ago. But the relief dissipates quickly as I scroll through the photos.

Nestled between fish and family pictures, there are two selfies with her friend Marten.
I stare at them, suddenly feeling numb.

Her eyes are shining like stars in the lights from the tanks. She’s smiling, and so is he. His arm is around her, possessively, and there’s a hint of triumph in his eyes that I don’t like.
He seems to be carrying her on his back in the other photo, and the thought of her legs wrapped around him awakens an urge to tear him away from her that is almost suffocating.
If they’re not already dating, it’s a matter of time. They would probably have gotten together a long time ago if I hadn’t been there. A petty part of me wonders if he was really being her friend or just biding his time, waiting for me to fumble, but that’s crazy. I barely know the guy. Actually, I don’t really know any of Julia’s friends, I just have a vague idea about their names and who they were to her.
I wasn’t a very good boyfriend, was I?

I told you it was better this way.
I’ve kept reminding myself that I didn’t make a mistake, and here’s proof at last. This was meant to be, they were meant to get together, I just happened to get in the way. He’s been a good friend to her, nice and considerate, while I only brought her chaos and pain.
I was so worried that Julia was wasting my time, but all along, I was the one wasting hers. She deserves better, I know this, but it still feels like I lost her all over again.

I put away the phone and take a deep breath of the scorching air. And then I reach for the tiny, secret corner of my heart where I was nursing my last hope of getting her back and stomp it out.

5 Occult Concepts That Explain the World Better Than Science
Throughout my extensive research into occult philosophy, I’ve been fortunate to gain a ton of knowledge that has truly enriched my understanding of the world. This journey has been deeply personal, as it has allowed me to explore the hidden corners of my mind and connect with a broader spiritual and philosophical landscape.
What I’ve come to realize during this time is profound: if the world weren’t so rigid and complex, we could all live and practice our lives in such diverse and meaningful ways that are truly personalized to our unique needs and desires. This realization has inspired me to seek out a more balanced and harmonious existence, one that embraces the individuality and creativity that lie within each of us. It’s also motivated me to share this knowledge with you all, hoping to spark a similar sense of wonder and empowerment in your own lives!
Now don’t get me wrong; science is brilliant at breaking things down—atoms, ecosystems, the expansion of the universe. It gives us answers, solutions, and a framework to navigate the physical world. But let’s be honest: science often trips over itself when trying to explain the messy, intangible, and deeply human parts of existence.
The cracks where logic doesn’t fit? That’s where the occult slips in. Occult philosophy thrives on the edges of understanding. It doesn’t just ask “how”—it asks “why,” “what if,” and “what does this mean for me?” While science maps reality in clean, objective terms, the occult dives into the subjective, the mysterious, and the uncomfortable truths that can’t be measured in a lab.
Here are five esoteric concepts that, in their raw and provocative nature, offer a far more compelling explanation of the world than science ever could:
1. As Above, So Below: The Reflective Nature of Reality
This phrase is a cornerstone of hermetic philosophy, a cryptic little mantra that implies the micro mirrors the macro, and vice versa. In simpler terms: the structure of the universe can be seen in the structure of a single human life.
Science has its own version of this idea in fractals and self-similarity across scales—patterns that replicate endlessly from the molecular level to the cosmic. But where science stops at structure, the occult digs deeper.
As above, so below isn’t just a reflection of patterns; it’s a commentary on how everything—your struggles, desires, and choices—ties into larger systems. Your internal chaos mirrors societal chaos. A broken relationship might reflect a deeper imbalance in your worldview. It’s not just poetic metaphor; it’s a map for self-awareness.
When science shrugs at the meaning of human patterns, the occult says, Look closer. What’s happening out there is happening in here, too.
2. The Law of Correspondence: Connection Beyond Logic
Occult philosophy insists that nothing exists in isolation. Every force, event, or idea has a counterpart. Correspondence suggests that unrelated things—symbols, objects, emotions—are part of an invisible web of connection. You lose something important, and suddenly, you’re flooded with strange coincidences that feel almost intentional.
What science brushes off as statistical anomalies, the occult embraces as part of the design. For example, synchronicity—the idea that unrelated events can feel meaningfully connected—is often dismissed by science as cognitive bias.
Yet, anyone who’s experienced these “coincidences” knows they carry a weight science can’t quantify. Correspondence doesn’t just explain why these events happen; it dares to ask what they mean. It argues that your personal reality is shaped not just by physical actions but by symbols, metaphors, and the unseen forces tying them all together.
3. The Hermetic Principle of Polarity: Duality Without Simplicity
In science, opposites are defined by contrast: positive and negative, light and dark, heat and cold. The occult, however, sees polarity not as opposition but as two ends of the same spectrum. Hot and cold, for instance, are both expressions of temperature; they’re not enemies, just different manifestations of the same underlying force.
The principle of polarity teaches that extremes are always interconnected. Love and hate, joy and grief—they aren’t separate forces battling for dominance. They’re two expressions of the same energy. This doesn’t just help explain emotional complexity; it’s a tool for navigating life. Feeling overwhelmed by fear?
Polarity suggests that courage isn’t its opposite—it’s a reframing of the same energy. Science is great at measuring extremes, but it struggles with the liminal space between them. The occult lives in that in-between, showing how the line between opposites is much thinner than it seems.
4. The Rule of Threefold Return: Consequence Beyond Physics
Karma often gets watered down into a pop-culture idea of “what goes around comes around.” But the occult’s threefold law takes it further, suggesting that every action—good, bad, or indifferent—comes back with amplified force.
Cast harm into the world, and harm returns not as punishment but as a natural ripple of that consequence. Put good into the world, and its return carries exponential weight. Science traditionally examines phenomena through straightforward cause-and-effect relationships, often focusing on linear progressions where one event leads directly to another.
However, it often struggles to capture the complex and layered nature of our decisions, which can produce effects that multiply and interact in unexpected ways. Our actions as humans don't just create simple, predictable outcomes; they can initiate chains of events that grow in complexity and impact over time, creating a web of consequences that are difficult to predict or quantify using standard scientific methods.
Why does a single act of kindness resonate so deeply? Why does unchecked anger spiral into unforeseen consequences? The occult’s perspective on consequences isn’t moralistic; it’s mechanical. This concept is as much about accountability as it is about empowerment. It forces you to think beyond the immediate result of your actions, asking: What are the ripples I’m setting in motion?
5. The Alchemical Process: Transformation as a Cycle
Alchemy is often reduced to the pursuit of turning lead into gold—a quaint historical footnote in science’s evolution. But true alchemy was never just about metal. It was—and still is—a philosophy of transformation. Lead and gold are metaphors for the self. The base material (lead) represents the parts of you that are raw, unformed, and heavy. Gold is the refined self—lighter, brighter, and forged through struggle.
Science can tell you how cells regenerate, how the brain processes trauma, how habits form. But alchemy explains the why behind transformation. It frames struggle not as a problem to be solved but as an integral part of growth.
Calcination, dissolution, and coagulation form the stages of a chemical journey that mirrors the human experience of transformation and self-discovery. The process begins with calcination, a fiery purification that strips away the unnecessary, burning away the dross to reveal the essential core beneath. This is a time of intense reflection, where one begins to cast aside the illusions and impurities accumulated over time.
Next comes dissolution, a stage of deep introspection where old structures and beliefs are broken down. It is a time for letting go of outdated habits and ideas, much like dissolving bonds that once seemed unbreakable. This phase requires courage, as it involves dismantling one's protective barriers, leaving behind comfort zones to explore the unfamiliar.
Finally, there's coagulation, the phase of reconstruction. Here, from the remnants of the past, something new and robust is forged. It's the alchemical rebirth, where a person emerges transformed, having integrated the lessons learned from the previous stages. This rebuilding is not simply a return to the original state, but an evolution into an entity more aligned with one’s true self.
Through each stage, the journey can be deeply personal, reflecting a unique path of self-awareness and growth. Calcination, dissolution, and coagulation are not merely chemical stages but serve as a profound blueprint for personal evolution, guiding one towards a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them.
This transformative cycle encourages embracing change, fostering resilience, and celebrating the unfolding of a renewed identity. Where science provides explanations, alchemy offers profound meaning. It asserts that transformation isn’t merely possible—it’s inevitable, provided you’re willing to endure the transformative fire.
Why the Occult Makes You Ask Better Questions
Science excels at answers. It gives us the tools, cures, and frameworks to navigate the tangible. But answers, for all their value, are useless without the right questions. This is where the occult shines. It doesn’t care about tidy conclusions; it cares about pulling you deeper into the unknown, daring you to challenge what you think you understand.
Occult principles don’t aim to replace science—they simply just… fill in its gaps. They explain not just the mechanics of life but the meaning, the purpose, the strange and chaotic connections that defy logic.
They don’t seek to fix the world; they ask what the world is asking of you. And sometimes, just by asking the right question; life is far more enjoyable than always trying to find the answers.

I’ve just seen that you did my request and I love it, ty!! (I was the one that requested the weird sleep scenario)
I’d like to request something again, bad sanses + star sanses with a gender neutral skeleton reader that sorta has powers like a genie. They can float, turn invisible, (still has most of the powers a usual sans has) and are very mischievous. The way they can grant wishes is giving someone a marble looking thing and when that person makes a wish, the marble will break and they’ll have to repay reader with something (can be either something shiny or some bones to chew on) they also don’t have a bottle, that’s the only genie thing they don’t have lol
Can i be 💤 anon?
Ah! Hello again anon💤! :D
Yes, that request was quite fun to write! Ok, since there are so many characters, they're probably not gonna be very long, still, I hope you'll enjoy this!
(Sorry for taking so long!)
Au Sanses x Genie reader
(Nightmare, Killer, Dust, Horror, Error, Dream, Ink, Swap)
Nightmare:
Nightmare actually found your powers quiet mesmerizing at first.
He interrogated you about the powers, and pronounced that your powers aren't very much helpful to him..I mean, yeah, you can grant wishes, but what exactly can- OH MY GOD IS THAT THE LIMITED BOOK HE WANTED BUT COULDN'T MANAGE TO GET?!
Keeps you around simply just for granting wishes 💀 (Asshole)
Doesn't really like the way your powers operate, but can't really do anything about it 🤷♀️
Please, don't try to scare him by turning invisible, he might just kill you.
Your relationship has a very rocky start...but you both slowly started to get along.
I swear...he has a constant headache just by your friendship with Killer.
He would do anything in order for you two to stop pulling these stupid pranks on him.
Sometimes likes to stare at you while you're floating around. He just finds that really cool. (Bitch is not gonna admit that 💀)
He hates how much he loves you 🥰
Killer:
THE BEST OF FRIENDS
Killer always felt like the odd one among the bad sanses...they all had their own perspective best friend, but he didn't have one.
Until you came along.
Killer's so clingy towards you after you became best friends...
You guys do a lot of stuff together! Many of them include pranking the others though..
Killer keeps on flirting with you in hopes of scoring a date with you. And if you don't get his flirting, then he'll just cover it up by saying that it's just a friendly banter. (It breaks his nonexistent heart though :(
The first time you scared him by turning invisible, he got very angry, until noticing it was you. Then his whole mood shifted as he just laughed it off. (Bro is a simp)
He was, and will be, so confused that you don't have a bottle. Like what do you mean that it doesn't work like in Aladdin?!
He likes to bother you with very useless wishes, "I wish for that remote on the table to appear in my hands." It was in front of him.
Bro is BROKE ASFF!!! His wallet cries after every wish he makes.. he could repay you with something else than money..but he didn't like to give his stuff away.
Dust:
Dust is a closeted nerd...so of course the first thing he does is whip out his book and write down everything about you.
It's his first time seeing a genie. Of course he's gonna ask a lot of questions!
He loves to study you, to the point where you felt like a wild animal in the Zoo.
He's silently sitting on a nearby chair as you grant Horror his wish, staring at you.. studying how your powers work.
It's gotten to the point where you're getting kinda creeped out..
You, at first, thought that he wanted to make a wish or something, but when he denied it just as you asked him.. you got confused even more.
Bro is staring so much that he eventually stops studying your powers, and is instead studying you.
He now notices even the smallest things about you.
Is getting a little obsessed, not gonna lie, but it's cute. So you'll allow it ;)
Horror:
His reaction to you being a genie is actually very wholesome.. (surprisingly). He wishes for his Au to not be in deep starvation..and for them to finally get out of the underground. Basically, kinda resetting everything that's happened after Frisk left.
You sadly can't grant this wish of his, which leaves him sad and angry. But you do give him a giant meat. (Which made his mood a little better.)
You started to feel sad for him after this moment, so you started to talk to him regularly. Which he enjoyed.
Horror's not much of a talker, so he'll just listen to you most of the time.
It's also partially because he likes to listen to your voice.. ❤️
Horror likes the sound that your powers make whenever you grant a wish, so he's always nearby whenever you're granting wishes. (It's just a little bell that sounds off)
Becomes attached to you, very quickly.
Defends you from Nightmare to the best of his abilities.
Horror's the tallest of the Sanses, (my HC) so he'll be so mesmerized when you float up higher above him. He won't lie, he likes this change. Having to look up for once instead of down.
He likes how your powers operate. It seems fair to him. 🤷♀️
Error:
He immediately took advantage of the fact you can grant wishes.
He wished for so many things! Such as; getting Classic's autograph, make Ink disappear, have a popcorn maker, wishing for chocolate,...
He actually doesn't like how you can float. He can't wrap his strings around you and pull you along now! >:(
You're getting on his nerves by being friends with Killer though.
After Nightmare, Error's your next target. Every.time.
Seriously sick of it. If he could, he would seperate you and Killer.IN HEARTBEAT.
He really, really.. really wants to hold your hand, but his Haphephobia doesn't allow him to 💀
Please, don't try to scare him by turning invisible. He WILL crash.
Dream:
He thinks that you must carry a big burden on your shoulders, if you're a Genie. So he gets really concerned if anything really.
He tries to pull you away from granting any wishes, every.time.
He's so cute.. dragging you away to hang out with him to forget about your work.
But he does want to see how your powers operate.
Finds it amazing that you can float, turn invisible... everything really!
After your long persuadation, he gives in and makes a wish.
His wish is really sad...he wishes to have his brother and Au back. He wants to reverse time! Which, as we know, you can't do. It's against the rules to change what was already done. So you politely decline, explaining him exactly why.
Dream's a really understanding person, so of course he doesn't mind it or isn't angry.
What was past...is past. What matters now, is that you're here in the present. Nothing else should matter. ^^ (his words)
Ink:
Immediately, Without hesitation, nor any filter, he asks; "Can you make me feel emotions?"
You don't grant his wish -> he sulks.
He's a forgetful shit, so he'll forget that you're a genie at times.
It's like he's on repeat at the start of your relationship. He finds out you're a genie -> wishes to feel emotions -> you decline -> he sulks -> forgets 💀
Be prepared for this at times.
But after knowing you for awhile, he finally remembers and stops asking you that damn question.
He doesn't have much opinions about you tbh. He's seen some shit, so he's not all that fazed from you being a genie.
The part that shocks him the most is that you don't have a lamp. (His reaction is similar to Killer. Bro confused you for Aladdin 💀)
Y'all have a rocky relationship 🤷♀️
Don't worry though, after you get to know each other a bit more, he'll cling to you like a Koala.
Swap:
Similar reaction to Dream. He feels concerned for your mentality.
Everyone's always going to you to grant their wish, but Swap's soul is too kind for his own good. Instead of wishing something for himself, he asks you; "What do you wish for?"
You cried that time. (He was scared that he did something wrong 💀)
You started treating him as if he was some precious gold. Which got him flustered.
He treats you as if you were his queen. Brings you food, helps you out a lot... You name it.
He just feels so much love for you, it's unbelievable.
Doesn't mind your little pranks with Killer. He just sees that as your little escape from work. Which he feels happy for. :)
He just smiles softly whenever you prank him with Killer in tow.
He's so patient and kind towards you😭
Doesn't mind you floating around or the fact that you can turn invisible, you're you, and that's something he never wants to replace.

Oolong
Look! Look! Art by @dredgenaves for my story!!!

It was early and many of the market vendors had not opened up their shops, carts, or stalls yet in the rubble of the last city where everyone routinely gathered for commerce. Eris wondered if the Drifter also preferred the lack of people or if his insistence that they come this early to ‘avoid the crowds’ was entirely for her benefit. Probably for her, she realized. A crowd, for him, would simply be a cloak of invisibility.
She reached out and touched a t-shirt, rubbing the cloth between her fingertips, smiling at the softness of it.
“That one? Really?” the Drifter asked her.
“The material feels nice.”
“You uh… don’t see colours the same way, do ya?”
“No. What colour is it?”
He waited a few moments, watching her fondle it, and then leaned in close and whispered in her ear. “Bubblegum pink.”
Eris drew her hand away as though the shirt had bitten her.
He laughed, picked up the shirt, and held it up against her, eyeballing the fit.
Eris gave him a look that could curdle milk…or blood.
“I have limits, Rat, and that is well beyond them.”
He laughed again and turned to the merchant.
“Do you have this, but in black or maybe grey?”
The vendor pointed to a pile of clothing in a barrel on the other side of a table.
Eris heaved an audible sigh of relief.
The Drifter began picking through it. “This might do,” he pulled a couple of pieces into his hand. “We'll want to add in a layer or two.”
“We don't even know if they will fit.”
“Oh these'll fit.” He paid the merchant.
“How do you know?”
He gave her a sideways look with a half smile and licked his lips.
“Hmmm…”
“Oooo…” the Drifter stopped at a spice vendor they were walking past who was just opening up their stall.
Eris found the cacophony of scents overwhelming and wandered past the spices to an area filled with pottery. The elderly pottery vendor looked at her suspiciously. Eris found a selection of chunky looking mugs and began to pick up individual ones to sense their weight and feel how the handles felt against her hands.
“You should get two.” The Drifter’s voice was by her ear.
“I was thinking of it. What colours are these?”
“That one’s green and that one’s blue. Both dark and swirly. They don’t match but they also sorta go together. They look nice.”
“Very well.”
“Smell this.” He shoved a small bag in her face.
She sighed and inhaled. “Oh… that is nice… is it tea?”
“Yup. They said it’s oo-long, whatever the hell that is. Smells fancy.”
Eris smiled. “It is. I like oolong.”
“Well we got some now and if you get mugs we can put it in them and be fancy together.”
Eris took the mugs she’d selected to the nervous pottery vendor and attempted to be non-threatening. He took her glimmer with shaking hands.
“Now, let's find you some boots that don't look like they're for walking on the moon.” Drifter tugged at her elbow.
“Everything about me looks like it's for walking on the moon… Because I spend most of my time walking… on the moon.”
“Yeah well, we ain’t goin’ to the moon which is why we’re getting ya non-moon shit for those rare times when you ain’t on the moon.”
“Hmmm…”
“This place has a bench. Here.” He tossed her a pair of dark brown leather hiking boots. “Try those on.”
“The feet fit,” she said after a few minutes, “...but the calves and ankles are a bit too wide.”
“Really? Let me see.”
He knelt one knee on the ground in front of her and pulled her foot up onto his leg. His hands slid along her calf down next to her ankle. Eris would have sworn his hands were empty, especially since she had felt all his fingers caress her gently, but there was a sudden weight and she felt an object pressed against her ankle. Something several inches long in a leather sheath.
He tightened the boot laces and tied them off with a bow.
“Nah I think that's perfect.”
He pulled her pant leg down to cover the knife.
“Let me see the other one,” he grinned.
“Hmmm…”
She replaced her left foot with her right as he repeated what he had done.
“You just ain't tyin’ it right, Moondust.” He looked up at her with mischievous eyes. “Try that. Walk around a bit. Make sure it feels good.”
He stayed on one knee as she stood and walked from one side of him around to the other. She reached out a hand and brushed her fingertips against the side of his beard. He leaned into her hand like a cat and looked up at her with affection.
“I think you might like being on your knees in front of me,” she said quietly enough so that only he could hear.
He blinked rapidly, looked away from her, and gave a nervous laugh. “Now that’s a dangerous observation for you to make.”
“Hmmm…”
“Boots good, though?” He stood.
“Yes. The additions are… comforting.”
“Ain’t never met a hunter… current… or former… who thought there was such a thing as too many knives.” He winked at her.
The Drifter spent some time talking with the leather worker while he was paying for the boots. They conversed in a language Eris did not understand. The Drifter seemed to be asking for something beyond the boots and the vendor asked a few more questions before they came to an agreement and glimmer exchanged hands.
Eris looked around at the market. More people were arriving now. More vendors were opening up their shops in the rubble. A small child stared at her over a barrel of apples. Eris stared pointedly back. An adult behind the child called it away. A few moments later it returned to stare at her over the apples again. She couldn’t see the face, only dark hair and eyes wide with fascination. No fear. Only inquisitiveness. Eris stared back, one side of her lip quirked up in a small smile.
“You frightening children?” The Drifter teased her, pulled gently at her elbow.
“No. They are not afraid.” Eris turned to follow him. “I appreciate naked curiosity. It is so much more refreshing than fear.”
A lone Eliksni was setting up a stall slightly apart from the others, pulling out bolts of cloth and placing them on a table. The Drifter tugged Eris’ elbow again and walked over to converse with the cloth merchant in fluent Eliksni. Eris followed, impressed.
She was able to understand the essence of what they were saying but her Eliksni was mostly gathered from reading books with Eido and what she’d picked up fighting Fallen on the moon. The alien language flowed from the Drifter’s lips and hands as naturally as the unknown human language had before with the boot vendor. He asked specifically about colours first, and then softness, elasticity, flexibility, absorbency. The merchant’s bottom two hands pulled out a bolt of cloth while the top two gesticulated regarding the craftsmanship of the weaving and the materials used.
“Hey, Moondust, touch this one for me, will ya?”
She reached over and fondled the cloth. It felt soothing, light, yet strong. The texture was instantly pleasing to her. She gave the merchant a small smile.
“Yes,” she said quietly but firmly.
A portion of the cloth was cut and folded. Drifter asked about the price. The merchant pointed to Eris and asked a question she did not follow. The Drifter nodded. The merchant raised all four of its hands in refusal. The Drifter insisted and suggested a price. The merchant shook his head and protested. Drifter put a small bag of glimmer on the table. Nods of respect were exchanged. The Eliksni looked toward Eris, bowed deeply, and spoke much more slowly. “Thank you,” he said in his own language, and then he switched to theirs, “...thank you. Eido told us. It is… great honour… thank you…”
They both gave the merchant a small bow in respect before turning away.
“What has Eido been telling people?” Eris asked him quietly as they walked toward several stalls containing fresh vegetables.
“It seems the scribe of the House of Light may have informed them how one of their allies took the wind outta the sails of not one, but two hive gods, at great personal risk to herself, and lived.”
“Hmmm… The Eliksni material feels delightful. What is it for?”
“Your eyes. What you have now is all rough and scratchy. I seen where it chafes. This is light enough it can go underneath between what you have now and yer skin. Won’t look different at all, but it’ll be soothing on your face. Feel nice. I ain’t telling you to hide or not hide your eyes. That’s a you decision. Nor am I telling you what to wear, on your eyes or otherwise. But… you should get to feel nice… if and when you want to.”
She took his hand and squeezed it.
The sounds of the market were beginning to pick up, voices all around were increasing: negotiations, call-outs, the occasional shouting. Eris found it all very overwhelming. Outside of combat, she was never around this many people at once. Her pulse quickened. The Drifter was a central point of calm for her in the swirling noise, but the noise was increasing. She gripped his hand tighter. He looked over at her, concerned.
“It is loud,” she explained.
He nodded and pulled them into an alley and around a corner, which helped to cut the noise.
“Thank you.”
“I think we got everything we need at this point and the day has now fully started so it’s only going to get louder. Shall we bug outta here and go tell Sherlock Mamma-bear we’re running off so she does not hunt us down and nova bomb our camp out of concern for our wellbein’?”
“Yes.”
“All right. Back alleys and shortcuts will be quieter on our way back.” He took both her hands in his as he started walking backwards, slightly bouncing on his toes. “This is my bag, Moondust. Allow me give ya a quick tour of the sketchy side of town.”
His eyes sparkled in glee as she laughed and followed him down the alley.
This is the first in a series I wrote on Ao3 called Embers and Stars (aka Eris and the Drifter go camping and then there is violence). FYI a few of the later sections have some nsfw happyfunsexytimes but those sections are clearly marked with skip links for anyone who isn't into that but wants to still read the stories.

I don't mind either way lol. just lemme know. anyway, I hope you enjoy :D thanks for your patience
iii. over a horizon, somewhere
the air in the hallway smells like dust and makes your skin crawl with chill. as your eyes dart to and from everywhere you can see, your breathing again is as silent as you can make it. you've had to practice breathing invisibly way too much for your liking. you're lucky this house is the same layout as your real life home, because even though everything has gone to shit, at least you were able to check which parts of the floor creak over here. did your parents give you an odd look for shifting your weight and stepping on and off seemingly random parts of the floor? maybe. but if a weird look was the price of survival, it was cheap and worth buying.
your foot was so light on that first step that you almost thought you hadn't actually put it down. no noise - good. actually, you hadn't seen or heard any of what everyone else had been referring to as phantoms in a good while. probably a night or two - mainly because you weren't looking to escape, you, we're just trying to survive at that point. you felt kind of stupid, not being able to buy proper medical supplies for your bathroom to take care of your injury - but you didn't have an independent credit card, and your parents could see all your purchases. they were kinda weird, they didn't like letting you access your money. it was obnoxious. and deadly, and this case.
but that was beside the point right now.
you had gotten to your bedroom door, which was torn entirely off of its hinges, splinters of poorly painted wooden fibers scattered thoughtlessly in the carpet. peeking inside revealed no monster, not from you could see, at least. to further muffle your footsteps, you had worn thick socks to bed. your shoes were in your backpack, and you wouldn't have time to put them on until you got to… wherever their base was? they never actually explained it. just said something about a bus. but, that's ashlyn banner for you.
(it's not, actually, she had wanted to go much more into depth on it, but you all had gotten so busy making a plan to not die that the specifics of the place got muddled.)
your backpack was neatly placed on you bed, where you had left it before “falling asleep”. you wasted no time in tip toeing to your closet and grabbing all the jackets you could find, throwing them on to save space before swinging your bag on both shoulders, tying the loose adjustable ends together to secure it, even if just slightly. grabbing all the blankets you could before you left, your next destination was the kitchen. your mom had stocked up on lunachbles the other day! this made things convenient for you, so you grabbed as many as you could, stuffing them in your pockets. glancing out the window for a second, the street is an eerie quiet. the sky, red, per… well, per what you assume would be usual. stranded vehicles in their driveway, the pavement unbothered by time.
a head appears in the window, upside-down as it swings like a pendulum on top of the roof.
“OH MY G- aiden! what the fuck!”
“haha got you.”
despite your shaking hands and the buzzing of surprise in your legs, you open your window, pushing out the screen and pulling the blonde in as quickly as you could manage.
“what are you doing here? you guys aren't supposed to be here for another ten or so?”
“I got sent ahead to make sure you weren't alone if something attacked you,” he says with a wide smile. as goofy as aiden can be at times, he has yet to not be on your side in this situation. his nose wrinkles in the slightest way when he grins like that. his odd smile freaks you out sometimes, honestly, but right now it brings you more comfort than anything else.
“oh. ashlyn let you go? like, alone? without ben?”
“no, lol, I sent me. I was getting bored.”
this earns him a dumbfounded blink, and then you sigh, pinching your nose as you open your mouth to criticize his poor decision.
“duck!”
some sort of primal instinct pushes you down, the hair on the back of your neck prickling as a collectable figurine goes flying through the air, and the hiss of pain behind you let's you know that something has found you.
“shitshitshitshitshitshitshit-” you're skittering to the window before your brain actually loads in to the situation, and it does when you're halfway through the window. aiden secures his stance, like he's about to fight this thing! that idiot!
you grab his arm, pulling him backward as hard as you can, hearing his shoulder pop and a small “ow :(“ as the two of you clamber through the opening. the imprint of the window frame leaves a red cent in your shoulder, and you hiss as you fall onto your back. aiden rolls his shoulder back without missing a beat, his lips now pulled back into the more energetic lines they usually are. he pops up, putting his palms flat on the glass and pulling down, closing it.
“fuck! are you okay?”
“yeah I'm good.”
well, that was that, then. you stand there for a moment, your hands on your knees as you pant, trying to relax the tension in your legs from a moment before. you didn't actually have much time, you guys needed to get out of there. your fingers weakly paw at the spilled items on the floor from your backpack, which tore when you guys fell out of your room. stuffing what you could back into it, someone grabs your arm and pulls you up before you even look at who it is. your other arm swings back, your gaze shaking as you hear a deeper voice, tyler's, specifically, gasp and pull back, rubbing his cheek.
“you guys need to not do that, oh my gosh.”
tyler sharply looks at you, eyebrows scrunched up in irritation, before his face gravitates to look at aiden in the same manner. “you are in such big trouble, that annie wanna-be is worried. and also pissed. really, really pissed.”
aiden mocks a shocked face.
“omg she's worried about me?? I knew she cared.”
tyler is unimpressed by this to say the least, grabbing your arm and yanking you up to your feet, holding your shoulder stiffly as he examines you, making sure your not injured. for the first time, you notice the softness in his eyes and cheeks, and while his hand is holding you still, it isn't too tight as to hurt you. he's being.. gentle. which you haven't actually ever noticed from him. you take the time to look him over too, for the same reason. regular scratches and bruises, but nothing to be all too concerned about. his hair looks so soft, does he use taylor's hair supplies? it's very well taken care of. a thought pops into your head.
“oh, yeah, by the way, I got a-”
“there they areee,” aiden cheers, his smile lacing his voice. turning your head, you see ashlyn, logan, taylor and a mildly panicked looking ben running to the three of you. the green eyed girl runs up to you, her eyebrows high as she scans you the same way tyler did. “you okay?”
you nod a confirmation, and she deflates with relief before turning to aiden. “could you not? you freaked everyone out! you're lucky a phantom didn't find you on the way here!” her hands are squishing up her hair as she gives the blonde a blank stare, and then cringes. she looks nauseous for a second, and then looks toward the house. her hands now covering her ears.
“... unless… a phantom.. did, find you on your way here?”
“haha, no, that would be silly. it was already in the house-”
the gray creature darts around the corner, and a chorus of screams and shoes pounding the dirt as you guys start running as fast as possible, ashlyn leading the charge. your chests are heaving, you feel your mouth drying up and salivating all at ones, and your head is pounding with your heart.
looking beside you is your newfound party, you find that everyone has weapons that you didn't really notice before now. you feel the taddest bit useless if you're being totally honest. making a few random turns and quick corners that nearly trip you up, and would have if ben didn't catch you and pull you along in time. at this point, you're holding his hand to keep up. somehow, you all ended up in the forest beside the neighborhood. this was probably the fastest way to get to ashlyn's house, and clearly, she knows it well enough to guide everyone through. meanwhile, the phantom is slowed down by the terrain.
as the trees thin out to the other side of the neighborhood, your legs are beginning to hurt. however, you do see a giant gray wall now, the one that the bus always picks ashlyn up by. this must be the graveyard everyone was talking about.
“time?!”
“eight minutes!”
fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck!
ashlyn skids to a stop inside of the wall, the phantom gaining on us by the second. tyler squeals slightly, before yelling to close the gate, his voice slurring with how quickly he spoke. with a loud thudding of everyone making it in, she slams her hand on the button as hard as humanly possible. the phantom does it's best to squeeze through the wall opening, but it shuts too quickly for it to come in. it starts hitting the wall, the structure echoing loud banging. ashlyn tenses, clenching her jaw as everyone stands in a outward facing circle, adrenaline still pumping through your arms.
“alright,” ashlyn says, dropping her hand a little and huffing. “let's head to the bus.”
“bus?” you ask, wrinkling your nose in confusion, looking around. there were… a lot of busses, actually. you thought this place was a graveyard?”
“oh, it's uh-”
“HAha. no one explained that. oops!” aiden cuts taylor off, giggling, in his own little world before turning to bother ashlyn. taylor side smiles at aiden, before turning back to you and continuing. “school bus graveyard. ash's family owns it,” she explains. there was probably more going on, but for the two of you, exhausted and filthy, it works well enough. a thumbs up from you later, taylor throws her arm around you. oh! friendship! that was fast. smiling at her, you return affection, throwing your arm around her shoulders too. she stinks, but you do too, so you have no moral high ground. what would you even say? ‘ugh, you just ran a mile here to there and back to save my life, disgusting. go shower’?????? no, that would be rude.
a yelp of surprise leaves you as aiden joins you guys, throwing his arm around taylor's other shoulder.
“you stink.”
“you do too.”
“I also stink. triplets!”
your trio laughs as you make your way to the empty school bus deemed hideout. a collective groan leaves everyone, sitting in seemingly designated spots. you shuffle awkwardly, looking around for a seat, before taking a seat behind tyler, beside logan, who smiles and waves at you before letting his head roll back onto the seat. tyler flops into his own seat, and you can hear his back pop as he groans and rubs his eyes.
“that sucked.”
“yeah, I agree.”
tyler tilts his head to look at you slightly, and you realize maybe he isn't actually perpetually angry, maybe he just has a resting bitch face. and also lacks sleep and proper communication skills. the way he again looks you over to make sure you're okay tells you he at least wouldn't leave you to the wolves in an instant.
ash leans over, and you frown as you hear her pop her foot. fair enough, but also ew.
“ah,” she starts, her head gently leaning on the seat in front of her. “the banging stopped.”
you didn't hear it after you guys had walked away, but also, ben told you about her having better hearing than the rest of you all. so that, of all things, wasn't too wild.
“it probably gave up, or-” tyler sighs, his eyes opening to look over to the freckle-faced girl. “- someth…” he's interrupted by ashlyn shooting to sit straight up. a second passes, and it looks like maybe she's just listening more intently than before, and then a shiver rolls up her spine and her shoulders tense. her eyes scan sideways, a nauseous feeling crawling up her ribs and into her throat. bus seat, window, bus seat, window.
fingers over the door frame, a dark skeletal looking head peering over.
your heart drops into your stomach, simultaneously jumping into the veins of your neck. everyone stands, almost synchronously backs up to cover each other. you find yourself in almost the very back, behind ben and logan. you glance at the twins, tyler slightly shielding taylor with his arm even though he's trembling.
the air stands perfectly still, nobody's lungs dare to move. it's like you're encased in stone. your shoulder blade throbs, and you wish you were some superhuman like the rest of them seemed to be. none of them were even seriously injured or anything, that could probably mostly be attributed to having five other people watching other people's backs at all times, and the medical supplies in the corner, but still.
no, you're no superhuman, but ash seems to be. she's the first to start trying to figure out what you guys can do. forcing her gritted teeth open, she hisses a question to you. “can we open the back door?”
“it's blocked!” you whisper, and your chest begins to hurt from how tight you're making your muscles. glancing to Logan, who's started crying in panic doesn't help much either. the own tears pricking at your eyes want to pull themselves down your cheeks, and your vision is fuzzy because of them. you decidedly rub them out of your face before they can be any worse.
“what do we do??” logan asks, his voice catching for a second, his fingers shaking and pulled up to his chest.
aiden replies nonchalantly, shrugging slightly and earning a loud thwack to the back of his head from tyler and an “aiden!” from taylor.
the floor creaked and the phantom makes a lunge for the party. you drop down, arms crossing to cover your face as your back meets the wall behind you, and a scream rips through the group.
beep, beep, beep.
your body lunges backward into your mattress, and you practically punch yourself in the jaw to cover yourself again. your forearms hurt and your legs feel sore. it takes a moment for you to really believe that you aren't in the bus anymore, your stomach heaving in your breathing. slowly, your arms start to come lay on your chest. slowly, your shoulders start to stop shaking so hard, and slowly, your breathing becomes deeper. you can feel trickles of tears, but you let them fall this time. you don't really have the energy at this point to scratch them away.
soreness tingles all along your body, your throat feels raw, and you don't really know why. you didn't scream all that much, did you? your phone pings, and you let the air rest for a second before even thinking of picking it up.
logan
everyone okay??
ashlyn
👍
aiden
lol that was close.
taylor
physically yes
tyler
mentally no.
you put your phone down, resting your head and grunting at the crack it gives.
you
yeah, aiden,
please don't die
aiden
lame.okay
ben
i think you gave
everyone a mini heart
attack when you said
that
aiden
everyone was
already having a heart
attack lmao.
you're looking for a gif or meme or random picture from your camera roll to respond with, when ben starts asking the important questions. no, actually, you hadn't done the homework. you had messed around with it for about an hour before bed, you were too nervous for finishing it and only answered a couple of the questions asked.
you “👎” the question before scrolling on a random app of your choosing, your eyes begging for sleep but your brain screaming to stay awake. the small twinkles of adrenaline from earlier aren't really in your system anymore, but you feel like they're crawling up in your arms. up your calves and up your neck. you keeping seeing things in the corner of your room, your mind making up eyes in the darkness. you don't want to keep your light on all night and run up the electrical bill, but it would certainly help if the places where the light from your phone doesn't reach quite as well would stop shifting. you feel.. watched. you're not, obviously, you know that. you know it's the part of your brain trying to keep you alive, but you're pretty sure sleeping is also part of staying alive.
you eventually turn onto your stomach, your palm pulling back the skin of your face and rubbing your eye. the small clock in the corner of your screen reads four something in the morning. after you stopped replying, the conversation eventually died out in the group chat, and even though you could see someone else was online, you didn't really want to bother any of them. luckily for you, you didn't have to.
taylor
hey, i forgot to check
up on you! u doin ok?
your eyebrow raises before you even process the message fully. why is she awake? of all people, you kinda got the feeling that she took care of herself more than the others in this scenario. then again, people who take care of others tend to neglect their own needs. maybe she didn't want to text anyone else, and texting you gave her an excuse to be awake?
you
im okay, you?
taylor
well, yk, as good as
we can be atp lol
hmm. you send her a random video because you have nothing else to talk about. she sends one back, and you spend the next hour sending them back and forth until you inevitably pass out. it's funny how much more comfortable you are when you aren't entirely lonely. that goes for both the phantom world and this one. it pulls you out, in a way. the way you have to flip-flop between normal life, and the terror that awaits you for seven minutes each night. the fact that the times don't line up still bothers you. it messes with your head, and your perception of time. how much passes and how quickly. you're not alone anymore, sure, but that doesn't lessen the effect of the situation any less.
except, maybe it does. maybe your body relaxing isn't just the natural melatonin, but the ever soft taste of safety. the satin touch of a cool breeze from your window before your mind drifts to a sea of unconscious landscape.
your alarm goes of an hour and a half later. lucky you, you no longer ever miss your alarm, and instead shoot up the second it goes off! yeah, the blood rush to your head and immediately grabbing the baseball bat you have near your bed before realizing what's going on isn't the best feeling in the world, but you're not late to school anymore, so that's a plus.
you don't really look at yourself in the mirror anymore, not while you brush your teeth and hair, not after you shower. a part of you cringes at the thought, even as you glance yourself over to make sure you're reasonably well prepared to head out. the eye bags you've developed don't compliment you as well as you would've hoped, and they contrast brightly against your skin going pale. there's a tired to your eyes that you can't seem to rub away, even as you fill your thermos with coffee before you jump on the bus. didn't help that you were honestly a little paranoid that you would see a monster in the mirror if you looked too long.
you sit down in the seat beside where ashlyn's seat is, sighing as you place your bag by your feet to make room for anyone else. your chin is in the palm of your hand, and you don't feel tired in the slightest. you will in about half an hour, when the fear factor that is waking up fades off, when you fingers stop tingling, and when your jaw stops clenching so hard. you take the moment to try and release some tension as ashlyn gets on the bus. she nods at you, looking you over before sitting down in the other seat. it's a habit you've noticed she picked up with the others, even though at the time you didn't know why. she would stand there for just an extra second, like she was checking them for stains. now, she did it for you, too.
this bus ride feels like it's taking forever, seriously. maybe everyone is just groggy this morning. isn't it odd, that you too would be groggy like the rest of them? normally, you'd be sitting with your friends, maybe even texting lunarmoon, your online friend. normally, you'd be up until early hours of the morning playing games, reading, doom scrolling, not because eyes would make themselves up to stalk you. laughing was now dry, hyperventilating now a more common pass time than giggling and memes, the dull pull of sleep more enticing, yet an aversion like never before overtakes that desire. the tips of your fingers are playing with the bracelets loosely dangling from your wrist. it's a blue one with a dice charm, one you got when you turned seven from an acquaintance at your party. it was the only thing your newly seven year old self didn't end up losing or destroying. now the question would be, would it remain?
a jab to your shoulder makes you jump, and you flash around to squint at a softly grinning aiden.
“hey, don't know if you heard me, do you need the homework?” he asked, twirling the pieces of paper in his fingers, and then they promptly fell apart and into your seat. you sat there and stared at them for a second, before laughing through your nose and picking them up. “yeah, I'll take them, if you don't mind.”
aiden gives you a thumbs up, ben beside him has his earbuds in and is looking out the window like you were doing a bit ago. he looks tired, but that's not new. everyone looks tired; but you've gotta admit, it's probably exhausting to keep an eye on aiden at all times. sometimes, only just sometimes, he makes you think of a class pet that has a habit of jumping off counters. you all look after each other, but ben has a tendency to be the older brother aiden seemingly needs. you're own older brother was off at college, but the two of you had never really been close. you can say the same for your younger sibling too. they never really interacted with you outside of the occasional conversation. it was honestly…really quiet at your house.
you pulled out your own earphones, opening your music app and sending ben a music party link, adding a couple songs to it yourself before turning to look at him. you can see the moment he hears the notification, even if you don't, and then checks his phone, tilts his head and looks up at you. you smile at him, wiggling your fingers in greeting, and he does an awkward little wave back, before pressing the link and joining, adding his own music.
regardless of whether or not your music tastes align, you enjoy hearing each other's pallet. it's refreshing to not pick all your own music, especially when the other person also has an excellent music taste. and the bus ride is all to short for you to really complain, anyway.
you're in class before you realize it, unlike your other… is friends the right word? coworkers at this point? peers? survival partners? you could probably consider yourself friends with taylor, at this point. everyone else was more an acquaintance. that being said, they did all risk their lives to save your own from living in the bathroom for the rest of eternity. that feels a little closer than acquaintances. maybe the right term is party members. like a dungeons and dragons party. yeah. you like that.
anyway, you're a lot more energized, and everyone else falls asleep within ten minutes of class starting. it takes you fifteen. now that everyone else is present, it's easier to feel slightly safer. even after the bell nearly has you tripping over yourself to wake up, and you could've sworn you felt breathing on your shoulder.
you can see everyone talking in the corner of your eye, but you walk over to ashlyn, who's packing up her seat. she makes eye contact with you, again, looking over you before she continues. she acknowledges you with a hum, and you stand there waiting for her to be done before speaking.
“hey, um, I just wanted to say thank you. again. for coming and getting me. i get the feeling you're kinda group leader, well, okay, everyone at least looks up to you like that. and I know it was dangerous to come get me, and you didn't have to, but I really appreciate it. i won't be a pain, I promise I'll figure out something I can do to help so that it wasn't all for n-”
“ash! oh, hey, you too!” aiden interrupts you in the middle of your rambling gratitude and sort of apology? you don't remember, you kinda lost your point when ashlyn started to go slightly wide eyed at the confrontation. he's standing with everyone else, and holding his backpack over his shoulder with that evergreen grin of his. “we're all eating lunch together. y'know… to talk about stuff. you coming?”

There is a Taiwanese BL out there in the very early stages of development that is perfect for me because it's about colored threads tying people together!
Connecting to You

Many people have the superpower of seeing something invisible. Jia Kai can't see ghosts, but he can see the different colored threads connecting people. The more threads, the more bonds a person has.
Jia Kai has seen countless threads, but he hasn't been connected to anyone at all. He can't figure out why but has accepted himself as a loner. However, because of a chaotic incident, he meets a policeman named Da Wei and realizes that one silver-grey thread has grown from him to him, connecting them together!
Jia Kai doesn't want to lose the connection, so he takes a part-time job at the police station to get closer to Da Wei. With his superpower, he helps with cases of missing people and objects. They get to know each other better, and the thread between them begins to change color, from silver-grey to yellow, representing friendship, and even to red, representing love. Seeing these changes, Jia Kai realizes that how they feel for each other can't be hidden anymore.
I NEED THIS!
I need this to be made. I need this to be on screen. I need to witness this with my own eyes. PLEASE! I'M BEGGING YOU! This is meant for me. Give me my colors!

Hello! Anon who was just asking how the blog worked here, arriving with the first, (of probably many I’m not even going to kid myself here,) cod hc! Not so anon anymore haha!
Okay. Soooooo…..
Soap having a soulmate string for ghost.
Ghost not being able to see that string yet for some reason or another. (Hasn't realized feelings yet, just can't see them, something on his end has to happen first. Whatever the AU dictates)
For years soap has been notoriously awful at finding exfil without being explained the directions like 3 times.
But now that ghost and he are on a team? Soaps just starts using the string to get to exfil.
He doesn't tell anyone why his sudden and
significant improvement to finding the RV, but
Price sure is wondering.
Also the fact that this new found ability seems to
"randomly" completely disappear sometimes (on missions without ghost) I bet the first few times the Sargent regressed to his old ways Price nearly threw a fit.
Sillies ensue.
:D !!
this is such a cute idea
-
It’s not Soap’s fault he’s always had a poor sense of direction. Really, it’s not.
He’s done many things to try and offset the problem of finding exfil—notes landmarks and anything else that stands out, writes down directions when he has time, sketches locations when he has even more—but nothing ever seems to work. It’s just an issue so ingrained in him it’s nearly tragic.
Truly, it’s just a damn good thing he excels in every other area of his work. If he didn’t, he wouldn’t still be here, he’s certain.
But then Ghost appears.
He shows up with that stupid invisible red string trailing after him, surely looped around his ring finger as it is around Soap's, tying them together. Connecting their souls.
And he seems so intent on never bringing it up to Soap. He never even shows the slightest hint of acknowledgement.
But while Soap grapples with whatever that could possibly mean for him—mean for them—he finds a plus side to this string of fate.
No matter where they are for work, that red string always leads Soap back to Ghost. All the while, it just so happens that Ghost has a fantastic sense of direction. So even if the whole soulmates aspect doesn't quite work out, Soap finally has his solution.
...When he and Ghost work the same job, of course. Otherwise...
"Sergeant, get your arse moving! Where the hell are you?"
Soap winces at the Captain's voice in his ear. Deployed elsewhere for the first time since he and Soap had begun working together, Ghost is not currently present to offer Soap his usual invisible guidance. Which unfortunately means for Soap a berating from Price for making a very, very late exit.
"What happened back there?" Price will ask, even as they all make it home safe. "You're usually good at finding your way out," he'll say, and Soap will cringe at his words.
Because he's not, never has been. He just so happens to work with the man tied to the other end of his string, is all, really. But he can't just say that, can he?
"Sorry, sir," Soap will mumble out his apology. "Won't happen again, sir."
It will. It does.
Price is upset again the second time. He's just exasperated the third time and afterwards.
Then Soap is only assigned to missions alongside Ghost. Every so often, one without him, and suddenly Soap is essentially glued to Ghost's side day and night.
Price must have figured out the pattern, then.
Soap just hopes Ghost might figure it out soon, too.

Curious Time - Lando Norris
Lando Norris x Singer!reader
Multiple part series where their friendship was easy, their feelings were confusing and the distance was the hardest <3
(3rd person perspective)
PART 1 -
INVISIBLE STRING
"All along there was some invisible string, tying you to me."
She met Pietra at a social event for rising stars and hit it off, the two of them had been completely joined at the hip from the moment they met. Until she met her now boyfriend Max, she was unbelievably happy for her when she found the love of her life, but as they grew closer, she felt as if she were vacant in her life for the first time since they met. That was until she introduced her to her boyfriends best friend Lando.
There was no one in the world like Lando, his child like energy she adored but also deeply admired his ability to switch to serious as soon as shrugged on his race suit. His passion for the sport was beautiful.
He admired her equally as much, she wasn't on the level of notoriety he was but her love for producing and singing was something he was envious of. She was one of the main reasons Lando dabbled in a short live career of DJing, spending countless days with her in the studio sparked the side hobby for him. However short winded it was he loved watching her craft and collaborating with her on his sometimes questionable beats.
Lando loved that she wasn't afraid of sharing her opinion with him either, jokingly jibing him suggesting that he should stick to the day job when another screech comes from his MacBook. In a career which can lead you to be surrounded by 'yes men' lando was grateful for her, she really was a breathe of fresh air to him in their nearly two years of friendship.
But that's all it was. A friendship. There had been a few drunk nights when he'd picked y/n up from parties with some work colleagues, a little too drunk and a little too lonely where their hands would wander a little too close as he guides her to his room. A cuddle in his super soft bed, his lips lingering on her shoulders as his large tee hangs off her frame. But nothing more. It was an unspoken rule between the two of them.
It was an extremely spoken about rule between y/n and her best friend however.
"Staying at the boyfriends still, I see" Pietra giggles over the phone. Her friends phone propped up against some random parcel on Landos desk, your make up scattered around infront of her. "Didn't fancy a hotel, no?"
"Haha, your jokes are hilarious as usual." y/n mocks, despite the laugh her face deadpanned.
"And no. 1. He's my best friend who I haven't seen in about 2 months and 2. Shut up he is here he might hear you." She lists, flicking mascara onto her falsies blending the two together.
"You worry too much, we say the exact same things to him."
Gliding the last coat of gloss over her lips she mumbles, "What time is the car coming to yours so I know what time to get my chauffeur out of bed?"
Despite the extra rooms at Lando's, Max and P decided to stay in a hotel not too far away. After all they are the ones in the actual relationship and need the privacy.
"Be here for 8, cars coming at 8:30 and we're meeting the girls at 9. I need to get a move on! Love you see you in an hour." She rambled not giving her enough time to reply as she's already hung up the phone.
Y/n had been at Lando's for nearly 2 weeks now glued to one another side in the days he's not keeping up with training or interviews for podcasts. She thought tonight she'd give him a couple hours to himself, get out of his and spend the evening with a couple of the girls.
Before waking him up she wanders over to one of his spare rooms which is now filled with her suitcases. Y/n was a notorious over-packer but she liked to be prepared for every possible scenario that she could ever face.
She opens one of the suitcases designated for going out wear and pulls out the two options folded on the top. Holding up both options, one a halter neck black mini dress and one a simple white maxi bandeau dress.
"The white one." A gruff voice appears from behind her. Her eyes widen but body staying still not letting him aware he'd startled her
She spins to see Lando shirtless, using both arms to hold him up against the door frame. His tanned muscles popping as he slightly swings too and throw.
"Ok Mr fashionista and why the white one?" Lando always gives advice on her outfits, but it's normally out of mockery telling her to cover up, jokingly normally followed with a suggestion of one of his papaya coloured hoodies.
"You've tanned nicely since being here. I just think the white is better for the summer." He states before leaving the room not allowing her to reply.
Since being here there had been a few more subtle compliments from him, which was rare between the two of them. Their friendship was filled with mockery and lightheartedness. His compliments or simple acknowledgments always take her slightly off guard, but she's aware there's no meaning behind them. He probably hadn't even thought twice about any of the things he'd said.
Slipping into the white dress as he'd suggested. She glanced in the mirror he'd brought into this make shift dressing room he'd allow you to take over. He was right. Her tan from being in the sun over here was complimented by the light material.
Despite it being the evening it was still humid, so she threw her hair into an intentionally messy claw clip and slipped on some strappy heels before joining lando in the living room now clad in a white t shirt and his favourite blue quadrant shorts.
He glances over at her, a smile adorning his lips as a subtle yet cocky acknowledgement that she'd listened to his choice.
"Our last week together and you're wasting it on the girls" he mocks a protein shake in his hand, making her assume he'd hit the gym with max after he'd dropped her off.
"I didn't think you'd care all that much. You've been sleeping the whole day!" Y/n joked. "I feel like I need to get out your hair even for a few hours. You've done so much for me over the past week, I can at least repay you by giving you a bit of peace!"
He glances at his phone, 7:50pm, "We should get going, can't have you being late to your girls night" his hands raise and mock a jazz hands motion as he says girls night.
With a roll of her eyes she follows him to his car, letting her pick which of his many she wanted to be taken in tonight. Always opting for his Lamborghini Aventador. As beautiful as his McLarens were the pair had both learnt that the orange wrap drew even more attention to the driver than his oh so simple Lambo.
Opening the door for her, she slide in sideways to low seats. The engine revs as he presses start, and gentle songs fill the car. One of her songs to be exact, her latest single, invisible string. Written with both Pietra and Lando in mind, the two most important people in her life. Pietra was aware and brought to tears when she found out she was dedicated this song. Lando was blissfully unaware that he was in mind as she put pen to paper.
"Liking the new single, huh?" She mocks nudging him gently with her elbow.
"I like everything you make. Your art is one of my favourite things about you" he says nonchalantly, looking past her to check for oncoming cars as he turn out of the road.
And there it is again a compliment she was far from expecting. Usually it'd be something along the lines of "it was getting no listens I was just pitying you" or "I usually skip this one".
She smiles, "thank you." Is all she can muster up as she plays with her nails in her lap. Y/n hates that simple recognition from him makes her feel this way.
They're nearing the hotel, grabbing her bag from the footwell. "Am I picking you up from here or straight from the restaurant?" He questions pulling the car to a halt outside the front of the hotel.
"From here please, I don't know if it's just dinner or P will peer pressure us going for more drinks."
Lando exhales from amusement knowing she would never say know to a party with Pietra.
"Ok y/n/n, just let me know. I'll be waiting."
She leans over to kiss him on the cheek, like the two always do before they depart. However his face also turns to do the same, leaving their lips brushing ever so quickly over one another before they both pull away, red flushing to the two of their faces.
"Anyway!" Her voice uneven and a little too loud, slightly echoing in the car.
"Thank you Lan, I'll message you later!" She hurries out the car exciting the tense air she'd just created. She leans in giving him one last awkward smile.
"Bye, you look beautiful, y/n/n." She heard as she slams the door shut.
Beautiful.
No, she thought. She must've imagined that.
Max meets her in the lobby, trailing behind as he rushes her to their room. Saying that P has some urgent hair related emergency.
Two cancellations of cars later, Pietras meltdown had finally been fixed and the pair were out the door.
"Let's get drunk!" She calls as she shuffles into the car.
Defiantly going to be a late one.

Are you not entertained?!
Looking back it's clear that Taylor Swift knew she would be involved with Travis Kelce, the Chiefs and their football games long before their relationship started. This allowed her time to plan and leave a trail of breadcrumbs along the way so that looking back it felt like an invisible string tying them both together.

Just like a broken clock is right twice a day, leaving a plethora of Easter eggs increases the feeling that they were meant to be together all along for anyone that choose not to see past the facade of Taylor™. Many of the connections are simple and obvious, such as the number 87, the combination of red and yellow and football themed references. Others are more of a shot in the dark but have a bigger payoff if they end up foreshadowing something really specific years in advance.

To understand how Taylor has been able to plan so far in advance we shouldn't be looking backwards at what has happened in the past, instead we should put ourselves in Taylor's shoes to consider the steps she would take knowing what was to come in the future. This would begin with researching the topic and learning about the history of football and sport in general. "I want to tell a sports story because I had just watched the last dance." In the folklore long pond studio sessions Taylor and Aaron Dessner discuss the reasons behind why they created the song 'epiphany'. Watching movies and reading books that feature sports stars is a great place to start looking for inspiration to gauge what the public is familiar with.

The next step would be to pick out specific references to hint at in interviews, outfits and social media posts. These take a little more effort to pull off but mostly relate to future projects Taylor has already planned out. The Easter egging begins to reach mastermind status when the foreshadowing links to events outside of Taylor's immediate control. The most recent example of this is the new Pepsi commercial inspired by Gladiator that ends with Travis saying "Are you not entertained?!" This is the same Gladiator quote that Taylor referenced in the Time person of the year interview that she did late last year. It's possible she knew about this commercial ahead of time before her interview.

This is a recreation of the Pepsi commercial that was made in 2000 featuring Britney Spears, Beyonce and P!nk. They were dressed as scantily clad warriors singing a cover of Queen's 'we will rock you' while being attacked by lions. The remake features Megan Thee Stallion singing the same song as Travis and his teammates are being attacked by tigers. This is an interesting choice of predator considering they end up locking one of the tigers in a cage. We've seen many tiger references in Taylor's work including the fearless tiger stripe outfit and the "way to go tiger" lyrics in 'Peter". If we consider what Taylor would have been inspired by as she was planning ahead, the original version of this commercial would have been a perfect example of female sportsmanship displayed in a male dominated industry.

Just like the eye of the storm can trick you into thinking the storm is over, the end of the international leg of the eras tour wasn't the end of Taylor's story. This new commercial is just like the second half of the Truman show when the camera zooms out to reveal the dome Truman has been living in. Everything we're seeing during this break feels jarring after being so focused on the details of the eras tour each night. This is intentional, allowing us room to zoom out to see the bigger picture and the role the director has been playing all along to script the narrative. And even though Taylor isn’t visibly associated with this commercial, it feels like a connection to her story when she’s selling out the same stadiums all by herself over and over again.

All of these connections between Taylor and Travis feel synchronistic in hindsight, yet are logical connections if you're planning ahead of time regardless of the motivation behind it. If you believe they're in love it will seem like fate or a coincidence that they both used the same quote. If you believe Pepsi and the NFL are using Taylor to increase their sales then you will see how they reused her quote to gain attention. If you believe Taylor contributed her ideas to benefit her PR relationship then you will see that she used the quote to foreshadow the new commercial. And if you believe this is all a part of the performance art you will see that it's another piece of the bigger story being told. Either way it creates yet another connection between Taylor and three of the most powerful and successful pop stars of our generation.

After all, are you not entertained?
A tortured poet,

and time can't stop me quite like you did; auron & rook
fic summary: just rook, and how red became their favorite color. a/n: this popped into my head and i had to write it down before i lose it forever. also, my rook's side of the whole thing (but hehe i hope you like it (´▽`ʃ♡ƪ)) word count: 845 words
the first time was a well-hidden farce.
his hands were shaking minutely as he spoke words that meant everything and nothing all at once. ones he had rehearsed over and over and over in front of a mirror until he went insane - but he was not sitting face to face with his own soul. no, not at all.
he asked himself once: how can someone be so unknown and so familiar to him all at once? how can someone be so like and unlike him?
his red hair made his vision blur, yet why do his veins yearn to flow through them? when did red make him feel so alive? when did brown eyes feel so cold?
it's truly odd.
everything about him makes his blood thrum and sing songs of unwritten epilogues. like stars etched with scarlet thread in his skin, longing to return to the heights. he's ecstatic when sanguine fills his periphery until its all he could think about. words and jargon blur on his screen, forming a silhouette that makes his heart yearn.
the second time was an instinct.
he should have felt fear. that's what they've taught them in school, right? red means a warning. a blaring message telling you to stop and run away.
though, red feels warm amongst the candles. intimate, with the light dancing around his hair and making him glow. he knows from those brown eyes that his soul is cold and battered and broken down until poisoned shards remain.
with every drop of wine, he could feel himself pressing his ear to the shattered mirror to hear the faint thump of a heart. the edges bite into his skin, but he smiles.
he feels like a fool; a happy fool. one who bares out a piece of his being to let this blood-soaked dagger lodge itself into the softness underneath.
grabbing his chin was an instinct. he needed to brand himself into his memory just like he had for him. he wanted hazel eyes to tint his vision just like brown eyes had for him.
it was a gamble, a risk, but it was a calling. it was a glint of something more that went beyond silly fantasies and fiction. it was as if his offer could put words to paper and make them come alive.
and it did.
the third was an epiphany.
the festivities were nothing compared to the joy he felt when that red appeared once again. he realized that red meant something new; an intriguing vulnerability, like blood underneath hardened skin, coiled around barbed bones.
he wanted to catch a glimpse of the man in an ivory tower. the man whose walls were crawling with crimson-tainted ivy, his gardens filled with fire and fury.
and somehow, in between, where the heavens and the earth meet, he did.
speaking so candidly with him felt odd. like seeing snow on the beach. so, so strange, but beautiful.
it was if they were circling each other, entangling themselves in a song and dance where their eyes and skin communicate for them.
his lips, bitten until they looked like cherries; his cheeks, blooming in rose... and that addicting scarlet bleeding like ink into the sheets.
before he knows it, red has become his favorite color.
Rook's eyes blink open, groaning softly. His hips hurt like hell, but hey, at least last night's shenanigans weren't some dream that would fade in the morning...
The ceiling of Auron's penthouse greets him, and he snuggles right back into the covers like a darling thing.
Like some kind of rare event, Auron was still asleep. The sun greets his peaceful form, the invisible string tying his brows together was not pulled taut for once. Rook simply stops, focusing on how his arm fits snugly against his waist, how his breaths slowly synched with his.
That article he read pops up in his mind again. The one about a pair of heartbeats synching when being in close proximity. Would theirs do that too? Would the silence be adorned with two heartbeats, seemingly fitting into the quiet as one?
He swallows, resting his cheek back into the pillow. He laughs softly to himself, thinking of all the ways Auron would chide him when he wakes up. Maybe something about "watching him in his sleep" or something.
And yet, even if they were entwined a few hours prior, he longs to touch. To feel, once again, the hum of his pulse against his fingertips. One that his soul is willing to echo.
He slowly brushes a finger against his cheek, his breath catching in anticipation. He knows he doesn't need to be so soft. His heart says otherwise.
And so, with a swipe of his thumb against his cheekbone, he lets out a breath with a quiver. His hazel eyes catch the sunlight. If ever Auron were to awaken at this moment, he would see red in the color of love; a subtle thing, something cautious and curious, blooming in the cracks.
for the fourth, time stops like it never had before.
