Artwork finished for the story Nightmares Run Wild. (Had to draw this to get some tension out of my system)
>>next<< The story of (almost) losing a best friend (but being just as traumatic) was heavily inspired by pausing the movie's end, way too many times. So here's a quick summary under the cut for those who need it:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He was left behind, frozen. It only lasted a few moments in the movie, but they've made so many scenes of Pickles still not moving from Nathan's side after minutes long, maybe an hour too of dragging his body across the snowy terrain.

Pickles lost his instinct to cover his head from a lightning bolt.
Tumblr media
Then his eyes, when he finally saw Nathan live.

Someone give this man a break.

I messed up big time recently! It has been long enough since I submitted work to be printed, that I forgot the crucial step of verifying my color modes before uploading files to be printed on demand. Thankfully, nothing was purchased before I caught the mistake, and I have made all sorts of corrections since then. Namely, I took down my Society6 store since it just wasn't worth the aggravation to get everything set up yet again, and I updated all of my files on Redbubble and my fine art print shop to include removing any previous designs that just wouldn't print correctly.
So what was all this fuss really about and is the extra work really worth it? I think so! Because check out this print sample or my work (image shown above), "Take One," I recently received from my shop. Those colors are so bold and bright, and they look identical, if not better than the digital file!
Correct color profiles are absolutely a crucial element to ensure your art prints correctly. Two commonly used color systems in the industry are CMYK and sRGB. CMYK is used primarily for printing, while sRGB is used for digital displays such as computer monitors and mobile devices. Let’s take a closer look at these two color systems and their differences.
CMYK is an acronym for cyan, magenta, yellow, and black; this may seem familiar if you've ever changed out the ink cartridges on your home printer. These four colors are used in combination to create a wide range of colors and when printed on paper, they create a color space known as subtractive color. In other words, the ink absorbs light and subtracts color from the white paper. CMYK is used primarily in printing because it can produce a large number of colors and shades with high accuracy, which is ideal for a fine art print.
On the other hand, sRGB is an RGB (red, green, blue) color space used for digital displays used by most computer monitors, televisions, and other digital displays like tablets and phones. The sRGB color space is considered an “additive” color model, which means the colors are added together to create the final color.
The key difference between the two color systems is their color gamut. A color gamut refers to the range of colors that can be produced within a particular color space. CMYK has a more limited color gamut compared to sRGB which is why when converting from RGB to CYMK, you may notice some color loss in your art that you didn't intend for. This is because the inks used in printing cannot reproduce the same range of colors as a digital display, so when designing for print, it is important to keep in mind the limitations of the CMYK color space.
So how do you get around the color loss issue? If you're creating digital work, change your color profile to CYMK for your working color palette while working on your designs. This ensures bright, crisp colors when you print without the loss of the vivid hues you originally chose. When scanning traditional artwork, you should have the option in your scanner's software to choose a CYMK mode. I personally use a lot of .png files which means my CYMK files are typically saved to sRGB automatically for display and is the preferred file format for most of the print-on-demand services I use.
I hope this helps with any color profile woes you may have! Let me know if you have any questions, and I will do my best to assist.
Much love,

Colouring rainbow gifs
The lovely @buckiecap and @djarsdin requested a tutorial of some gifs from this TFATWS rainbow set.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My colouring process is kinda chaotic and it always depends on the gif itself. These three gifs will highlight the similarities and differences in how I colour my rainbow gifs.
You’ll need some understanding of basic gif making and adjustments. I use Photoshop 2021 but I imagine these processes will still work in other versions.
Some basic tips:
When doing rainbow sets, once I've got my base gif ready, I always make a hue/saturation layer on saturation +100 so I can see what colours I'm working with. I just keep it hidden so i can check how my colours are doing throughout the editing process.
Also something to stick at the back of your mind: you want your final gif to be as “monochromatic” as possible - make sure your final palette will be only black + shades of whatever colour you're targeting. This is not only to make the gif as colour-focussed as possible, but it also helps with saving your gif under 10mb. That saturation +100 layer I always keep hidden at the bottom of my gif so I can keep an eye on what colours are present.
It’s also helpful to understand how RGB and CMYK colours work and what to add/subtract when you want to bring out a certain colour. A good example of this is with Colour Balance:
Tumblr media
You’ll notice the colours on the left are Cyan, Magenta and Yellow (CMYK), while the other side is Red, Green and Blue (RBG). So if you want more cyan in your image, you’d push the bar towards cyan, but then you’re compromising the reds. In Selective Colour adjustments, the panel is reversed.
Tumblr media
This knowledge is absolutely necessary when you’re doing any adjustment, so keep this in the back of your mind as I work through the tutorial.
Green gif - Eli's door
Tumblr media
So I start with my hue/saturation on saturation +100 to check what I’m working with here. This gif of Isaiah's grandson opening the door has green, yellow and red as the dominant colours, and I can see a bit of cyan on the right. I’ll keep that hue/saturation layer hidden as a reference.
Tumblr media
Normally when I make gifs I start with a curve or levels layer to get any unwanted hues or create a more visible scene. But in this gif, I'm pretty happy with the colours, so I'm just using a simple curves adjustment, because I want to have whatever is behind the door as the ‘background’ and the door frame is the ‘foreground’, so only a slight adjustment is needed here.
Tumblr media
Since the colours are already prominent, I'm going to make the green more visible and vibrant. I do this by using selective colour in the green colour to make the green stand out. When thinking of CMYK adjustments, you might think that Magenta -100 would work, as that normally pushes the greens, but I find that this makes things grainy and patchy looking, as you can see here:
Tumblr media
Instead, I’m enhancing cyans and yellows, and only pushing the magenta back just a little bit towards green. I’m not sure why green specifically does this, but it’s useful to know this when you’re colouring.
With the yellows, I want to push those more as well, since the amount of yellow usually influences the green-ness of the gif.. I'm also going to max yellow too since that will also make the green pop, but I also have to be careful not to distort the skin colour too much. I also want to balance the skin tone with a little redness so he doesn’t look like he has jaundice (skin tone will be explored later in the gif process)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've added another selective colour layer on top of that, only adjusting the greens just to make it pop a little more. Don’t be afraid to use more than one selective layer, this can really bring out vibrant colours if you use it right.
Just to get some more depth, I add a colour balance layer, again just subtly pushing the cyan and yellow up and not playing with the green too much. Then my usual last layers are with a vibrance and brightness/contrast - I’m usually quite generous with contrast so I can bring out the different shades and it makes things a little more vibrant too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This next step is really important when colouring people with dark skin - you want to lower the redness from their skin so they don't look unnaturally orange, as you can see here:
Tumblr media
There is a fantastic tutorial here about colouring dark skin tones and avoiding the orange-washed look, and I recommend all gif makers to take note! It's difficult especially when doing rainbow gifs, and it takes some practice. I do this with a hue/saturation layer, and specifically targeting red and yellow and reducing saturation. I might need to play with selective colour or colour balance to get it right. Luckily Eli doesn’t move around too much, so I can use a mask to adjust only his face.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that’s the end product! now just ignore me as I re-upload the green gif in my set so you don’t see such a horrible jaudiced skin tone sldkfjsldkf
Yellow gif - Karli vs Sam
Tumblr media
I'm gonna be completely honest here - this gif was very tricky to do. I actually have about three different versions of it. At first I thought "this is the yellow gif so I'm only going to have yellow tones", and did selective colour to get rid of any traces of green AND red, because I didn't want any orange at all. It ended up looking quite dull:
Tumblr media
I mean.. yeah it’s yellow........... but it’s kinda boring. So I deleted all adjustments and watched the raw gif, and noted the orange light contrasting with the pale light. The raw gif itself already had some beautiful lighting - why get rid of it? It depends on what you want, but I like my rainbow gifs to have a different colour there to contrast with the main colour.
Starting off with a hue/saturation layer with saturation 100+, I can see there are clearly yellows and reds and a bit of green on the ceiling.
Tumblr media
I thought the contrast of the orange and pale lighting was too good to mess up so I started with that. My first layers are vibrance and brightness/contrast to exaggerate the silhouettes and bring out the colours that are already there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I added a channel mixer layer to narrow down the colours. I wanted to fill the white bits with yellow, and with channel mixer I’m able to manipulate colours into something else while still looking natural and blended. I won’t be doing too much colour manipulating here so the settings are very minimal. I don’t know how to explain it but it just takes a little fiddling to figure out what works for your gif. You’ll notice the white reflections on the ceiling are now a solid yellow colour:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next is a colour balance layer. I'm basically trying to bring out the yellow out. This is really just trial and error. I added a bit of magenta to bring the depth of the orange colours in the darker shades:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now for selective colour. I'm often adjusting all of these while hiding/showing the hue/saturation layer I have kept at the bottom. This time, I’m aiming to subtract the reds and bring it down to a warm orange, and I do that by bringing it towards cyan/away from red, and away from magenta/towards green.
Then I max out the yellows so it becomes the most dominant colour. I've also manipulated the green to make sure it is excluded from the gif - again, checking with the hue/saturation layer at the bottom, while keeping my eye on the ceiling and other places where I’ve noticed green lurking about. I don’t want any unwanted shades ending up in the final colour table.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, I finish with yet another vibrance and brightness/contrast layer, just because I like things bright and vibrant!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And there it is! The orange is still there and adds a contrast, but you can tell that the main colour is the yellow. This gif seems very straightforward but I assure you, it took me quite a while to get this one right. This gif was a joy to work on because Sam was so very extra in this fight sequence lolll
Pink gif - suspicious mechanical grenade? idk
Tumblr media
While this gif may look simple, it actually took a couple of tries before I got the colouring right. You'll notice when the ball activates, there is a bright green light that highlights the gas released and it reflects on the chair legs and carpet.
At first I tried this with the above mentioned selective colour method - which I thought turned out okay but it didn't sit with me right. Notice the reflection of the blue light on the carpet - it definitely isn't blue and more like a green-orangey kinda colour, and it doesn't look natural at all.
Tumblr media
So I re-started from the beginning and had a look at what I’m working with, starting with hue/saturation at saturation +100. I can see that the original gif has red and green as the dominant colours, with yellow bits blending the two on the carpet. That’s what I was having issues with the selective colour - so I’ll be doing it differently.
Tumblr media
Enter: channel mixer. I’m gonna be honest............. I have ZERO idea how the channel mixer really works! It’s all a matter of trial and error, but I’ll try and explain my process step by step.
I normally start in the blue channel (again - no idea why, it just works for me). I start with the reds, and I know if I go over 0, it will push the reds towards cyan, which will get it more purple-y:
Tumblr media
Ooooh looking good!!! then I want to push the greens towards magenta, so that needs to go over 0 as well:
Tumblr media
Woohoo! It’s already starting to look good. The green light and the way it blends into the red/pinks have all been completely changed into the cyan hues, so there’s a perfect reflection you can see on the carpet! Yay! I had a fiddle with the green and red channels but nothing too drastic. Here are the settings:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even with just the single adjustment, I was already pretty happy with it and only did a few touch ups: I added a selective colour layer to bring out a more pinky-purpley colour, then a levels layer to brighten things up. It might seem very backwards to add a brightening tool at the end, but I didn’t want to mess up the original colour shades because I liked having the dark shadows lit up by the ball’s light.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that’s it! Only three adjustment layers, but it took some time to play with the different adjustments and what worked best. Channel mixer can be really intimidating but it works like a charm when you manage to figure it out.
the end!
Finally I have to give credit to some amazing content creators and their brilliant colouring tutorials that have made such a huge impact in the way I edit. Some brilliant guides include:
this colouring tutorial by @favreaus
this colouring tutorial by @inejz-ghafa
this colouring tutorial by @meliorn
I hope this tutorial has been helpful! I’ve tried to explain myself as best I can, but let me know if you’d like any clarification or have any questions. I’m still learning how to do things, and honestly most times it’s just randomly clicking things until something works out!

Tumblr media
So I’m finally watching Daniel Shiffman videos on YouTube after years (7 years now) of having them in my ‘Watch Later’ queue. (Ikr what an idiot imagine how far I could’ve been if I just did it back then)
In todays lesson (3.2) we focussed on how we can use the mouse to interact with our canvas.
Toward the end he gave us a challenge to have a rectangle drawn onto the screen but have the fill colour change based on the mouse previous/current position.
So I did this
Tumblr media
With this code, the display is set to a size of 640x360 pixels, and the ‘background’ is drawn once, which means we can see a history of the shapes we draw (like back in windows 97/Vista/XP? when you won solitaire and the cards left a trail over the screen).
Then, I set the stroke (rectangle border colour) to white (RGB=255,255,255). And the fill colour is calculated by subtracting the mouses previous Y position from its previous X position.
The parameters for drawing the rectangle make it so that a 20x20 pixel square is drawn at the mouses exact x,y position.
And then I got the interesting colour spectrum above
Here’s the same thing but with the square size set to 10x10.
Tumblr media
Isn’t it strange how the yellow comes through? (Also this looks like one of the pride flags?)
If you give fill only one argument/parameter, then it assumes you meant to give that same value for all parameters. So if I say
fill(0);
This means Red = 0, Green = 0, and Blue = 0. So the colour you get is black. And all numbers upward give a greyscale value until you get to 255 which is just white.
fill(100);
fill(73);
fill(204);
These^ are all grey, with higher numbers being brighter grey, and lower numbers being darker grey. Notice how the background is a dark grey because it has ‘50’ as the argument/parameter.
So if you give fill a value that’s, say, negative… what happens?
(Idk apparently you get yellow)
The section where the rect has a yellowish fill is when pmouseX is less than pmouseY (360), so for a certain range of negative values (e.g. 250-360= -110).
Let’s just make the background -110 to check something. 0mg….
Tumblr media
How bizarre. What about positive values OVER 255.
Tumblr media
*deep inhale* woowwwwwwwww
I don’t understand why this is happening (he’ll probably explain in the next video) but this is so cool!!!
If only I could figure out how to make the background colour each pixel based on its coordinates, so like background(x-y);

A White Mage's guide: G-Pose and the Art of the Perfect Shot
you've probably heard of G-Pose in your travels around Eorzea, even if you've never used it yourself. You've seen examples of beautiful vistas and epic battles captured in beautiful frames and filters. "How do I use this magnificent tool?" you may have asked. Well, ask no longer!
Tumblr media
You can either activate G-Pose (Called Group Pose Officially) here in your actions and traits, or by typing /gpose in the chat bar. WARNING: The Game does not stop when using G-Pose. WHM's Guide to FFXIV does not recommend using this feature in combat.
When you first open Gpose, your HUD will disappear. You will be left with your subject, your background, and the menu.
Tumblr media
On the left is your camera movement guide. On the right, the menu with the various settings you can use to manipulate your photos. Take some time to manipulate the camera to learn how it moves. The above photo is the exact same pose and location, I've just moved the camera to the right.
Tumblr media
When positioning your subjects, it's important to keep the Rule of Three in mind. That is, your photo should be balanced across three different 'portions' of your photo. This is harder when you are doing a G-pose shot with multiple people, but it's doable if everyone coordinates. I've demonstrated here with a couple of models, and a frame that conveniently breaks the photo up into three segments. Unless you are deliberately planning to add extra effects or text later, there should be no empty spaces that focus on nothing.
Tumblr media
The top is an example of poor balance; there's too much empty space on the top with no purpose, one character is cut off and is standing too far away from the others. The bottom is an example of good balance; while there is 'empty' space with no characters, the trio on the left are all looking the same direction, directing the viewer's attention to the old ruins in the distance on the right. Empty space in a shot isn't bad; it just needs to have purpose.
Tumblr media
You also need to consider the positioning of your subject in relation to the camera. On the top, while it is balanced, you can't see the person's face on the left. On the bottom, you can. You may want to take the stylistic choice of not seeing faces, and that's okay! But be aware of where your characters are facing. This is somewhat adjustable in G-pose, but only for yourself; you can't adjust other players' positions, only where they look. You can also 'hide' unwanted players, minions, and NPCs from your shot, if you wish to prevent unwanted photobombing.
Tumblr media
Before I get into the fun filters and stickers you can add, I want to talk about lighting. You may have noticed that there's an option to add extra lights to your shot. Here's how it works; when you activate each light, it will appear in the spot the camera is currently in. You can give each of your three lights three different intensities, and a wide array of colors via color mixing. Keep in mind that mixing lighting colors is not like mixing paint; your three primary colors are Blue, Red, and Green. This is additive Color mixing, adding other colors to your primary to get the desired color. The second shot is subtractive color mixing; starting with either Cyan, Magenta or Yellow and removing color as needed. Taking all three colors to full will give you a clear white light. When you add lighting to your shot, you will need to move your camera to the desired spot for the light before turning it on.
Tumblr media
It's also important to keep your lighting in mind when using filters. Filters like Sepia or Monochrome will benefit from extra lighting, while filters like Bright or Pastel will not. Time of day is also a factor; while you can 'stop time' while in G-pose, if you're taking a shot at night you still want to make sure your subject is well lit.
Tumblr media
Last but not least is Depth of Field. This is how clear your background is in relation to your subject. There's no right or wrong way to use this tool, but it can make all the different in establishing a subject.
From there, the world's your Oyster! There's plenty of Frames, Filters, Emotes, and stickers that you can use to build your shot. I'll leave these for you to discover and play with; after all the best way to learn G-Pose is to use it! You can also saved 'preferred' settings so you don't have to rebuild your favorite look from scratch.
And that's it! Have fun with G-Pose, and See you around Eorzea!

Buddie Advent 2020, Prompt: Homemade Holiday Decorations
Read on AO3, on wattpad or below. Edit: added the cut now for better readability, now that tumblr isn’t being a dick anymore.
The door to their house clicks closed as Buck carries the groceries through the corridor into the kitchen. Eddie is standing at the stove, cooking, and looks up when Buck slides up to him, the two of them sharing a quick kiss to say hello.
“I brought bell pepper,” Buck says, getting two of them out of the grocery bags and putting it down on the countertop next to Eddie.
“Thank you” Eddie replies, rifling through their cutlery drawer in search of a good knife.
“They had a sale on the cereals you and Chris eat so I got a few more packages” Buck continues, putting them away “I also bought some gingerbread cookies for Chris to take to school and for us to take to the station. I thought it might be nice.” He looks up to see Eddie smiling at him while chopping the bell pepper.
“Don’t chop off your finger,” he directs Eddie’s way “you still need them.”
Eddie laughs and turns back to the countertop, his knife making a noise when it lands on the wooden cutting board.
“I got everything on our list besides vanilla sugar, so I had to get vanillin sugar,” Buck winces before shrugging “But it should be alright. I don’t think we’ve ever used real vanilla sugar before. We’ll survive one more time without.”
“The recipe explicitly calls for vanilla sugar.”
“They all do” Buck cries out, good-naturedly rolling his eyes at Eddie. “You can always subtract it with vanillin sugar. And it’s cheaper.”
“But not when vanilla is in the name of the pastry” Eddie interjects.
Buck sighs. “Well, I got you your vanilla beans.”
Eddie turns back around to look at Buck and leans forward to drop another kiss on his lips. “Thank you.”
Buck grins. “You’re welcome.” Over Eddie’s shoulder he perceives what looks like colorful Christmas cookies cooling out on a baking tray.
“Oh, did Christopher make these with his friend earlier?” he asks, reaching out to grab one and pop it into his mouth.
“Don’t eat it!” Eddie rushes toward him, his voice going into a higher pitch.
Buck lowers his hand that’s holding the cookie, suspiciously inspecting the white-ish grainy dough and the stark red and green icing.
He lifts an eyebrow. “Are they poisonous?”
“They’re decorations” Eddie informs him “they aren’t meant to be eaten.”
Buck furrows his brows. “They made cookies? That are not to be eaten? But supposed to serve as decorations?” He laughs. “You don’t think Chris will actually stick to that. A few days and they’ll all be gone. He won’t even notice that I ate one of them.”
Amusement takes over Eddie’s face. “Well, you can try, but you’re seriously gonna regret eating it. It’s salt dough.”
“What the fuck is salt dough?” Buck grimaces. “Doesn’t sound very tasty.”
Eddie laughs as Buck puts the cookie back on the tray. “It’s not. Apparently, it’s some kind of self-made modeling dough. Good for kids because it’s not toxic.”
“Except for the whole salt thing.”
“Still not healthy to eat” Eddie agrees “but I’m not sure you can bite through it anyway. The finished cookies are pretty hard.”
“You want me to prove that I can?” Buck teases.
“Please don’t. We can’t afford the dentist’s bill.”
Buck laughs, then steps closer to the tray, taking in the different cookies lying around. He recognizes some shapes of their own cookie cutters, as well as some new ones, likely belonging to Christopher’s friend. What he thought to be icing when he picked it up earlier, turns out to be some kind of glazing the children painted the cookies with.
“They really don’t look too bad.” He praises.
Eddie nods, leaning back against the counter he was previously cutting bell pepper on. “We could put some ribbons through them and hang them on the tree.”
“Sounds good.”
So that's what they do, the three of them, sitting in their living room, the salt dough cookies and multiple rolls of colorful bands that Eddie went out to buy explicitly for this occasion all strewn between them, and each of them a painted cookie in hand, fiddling one end of the fabric through the hole to tie it around the other once it pushed through. Slightly off to the side stand three cups of hot cocoa and somewhere between all the ruffles and rolls, there's also a box with edible Christmas cookies. That last one was Buck's idea ("Would be fitting, don't you think?") that Eddie was vehemently against because he already saw this afternoon ending with someone chipping his tooth off after biting into the wrong cookies. He fears that might as well be him.
All that to say: Buck knows the cookies that should be hanging on their Christmas tree. He's seen them all, on the first tray, in the box they kept them in after, on the table when they were tying the ribbons. He's seen them enough times around the house to know how many there are or at least how many there should be .
So when Buck comes home one evening, a few days later, and catches sight of the decorated fir tree in their living room, he can't help but notice that there are more salt dough figurines than there should be if Eddie and Chris had put up all the ones they prepared earlier.
Not by a lot, subtle enough not to be excessive, but enough not to fool Buck.
Curiosity piqued, he approaches the tree, lifting up the designs unfamiliar to him. They're innocuous enough: some hearts, some stars, some snowflakes and Christmas trees, not too different from the ones Chris had made with his friend.
But then Buck's eyes and hands land upon a ring of some kind. Most of it is painted yellow (Buck assumes it's meant to represent gold, and he admits it looks close enough) but there's a small tint of blue towards the other side of the ring, the one that was facing towards the stem of the tree initially. Buck's breath catches in his throat.
His mind occupied, Buck only realizes Eddie has slipped into the room once he clicks the terrace door close behind him. He jumps a little at the sound, causing Eddie to laugh and tease him about it.
“What’s got you so jumpy today?” Eddie slides up next to Buck, leaning in for a kiss but stopping in his tracks once he realizes what it is that Buck’s holding. Then he laughs. “I thought I would have a little more time until you found it.”
A grin spreads on Buck’s face, his eyes lifting to Eddie’s, with a mischievous glint in his eyes but the ring still spinning between his fingers.
“Really, Eddie?” he asks “the next time you don’t want me to find something maybe don’t hide it in plain sight, oh wait, I think hiding might be a bit too strong of a word.”
Eddie huffs. “It was meant for you to find. But I thought it would take you a little longer. Guess you know me too well.” Buck winks at him in response. “I guess that’s why I hung it up in the first place.”
“Is that so?” Buck says, too smug for Eddie to believe the faux innocence put into that phrasing.
“I think I changed my mind,” Eddie says, turning around, but they both know he doesn’t mean it.
So when Buck grabs him, turns him around, and pulls him closer, he leans in for a kiss.
“I wanna hear it,” Buck says, not letting him go, a soft look in his eyes that don’t leave Eddie’s face.
“You wanna hear what?”
Buck huffs a laugh. “The speech you have prepared.”
Eddie crinkles his eyes. “Why do you think there’s a speech?”
“You expect me to say yes without a speech?” Buck lifts his eyebrows accusingly, before lifting the ring next to them. “And to a ring made out of salt dough?”
Eddie laughs. “Don’t act like you wouldn’t say yes if I presented you with a paper ring.”
“But only because I love you.”
“Well, everything else would be kind of embarrassing now.”
Buck laughs, leaning his forehead against Eddie’s for a second before asking again. “So I don’t get a speech?”
“It’s symbolic,” Eddie explains after an affected sigh. “The ring. We can’t wear rings at work anyway and I knew you’d scold me for picking up extra shifts just to buy an engagement ring you’ll hardly wear and because I couldn’t wait for you to do it instead and you seem to have become quite the fan of salt dough decorations, so I thought why not. We’ll get real rings for our wedding anyway and this is… something personal.”
“That’s cute,” Buck admits, leaning forward to plant a kiss on Eddie’s lips. “And my answer is yes, obviously.”
Eddie drags Buck even closer and deepens the kiss.

Okay, let’s talk about colour theory. I’ve seen some misinformation about this going around so I am going to be petty for a bit. If you have heard even a little bit about colour theory, you know that all colours can be traced back to the so called “primary colours”. Those are colours that you cannot mix by combining other colours. There are two sets of primary colours that are referred to as such. One is what I would call “traditional” primary colours and the other is what I would call “modern” primaries.
These are the “traditional” primaries: blue, yellow and red. With them, you can mix a lot of colours, and the oranges and greens you can mix with these are usually quite vibrant. However, if you try to mix this red and blue, the purple you get is usually muddy and brown-ish and not very vibrant (I had this struggle in school a lot, I wanted to mix purples and everyone is taught “just mix blue and red” but it always turned into an ugly mess). You will find this colour combination as primaries in a lot of older books etc. as well as in general spaces, simply because these are what people usually get taught as the primary colours.
Tumblr media
The “modern” primaries are similar but different: cyan, yellow and magenta. With these you can actually mix all other hues, including the blue and red from the “traditional” primary colours (by mixing either cyan and magenta or magenta and yellow respectively). Which is why they are also used as the primary colours in printing.
Tumblr media
Now, these two sets of primary colours only apply to what is called “subtractive colour mixing”. Substractive colour mixing is what happens with all traditional media (and also with digital colours as long as you don’t use a layer mode like overlay or luminosity). Pigments “create” colour by absorbing light and only letting specific wavelngths filter through. As a result, if you layer more of these pigments over each other, more light will be absorbed and the colour will appear different. This is why mixing with traditional media is called substractive, the more colours you mix together, the less light gets through. Which is also why, when you mix all primaries together, you get black.
“Additive colour mixing” is the opposite. There you mix together differently coloured light (I don’t know how to phrase this in a more scientific way, I am a simple idiot). This is most easily observeable in stage lights, where when all primary colours are added together, you get white.
Here’s a graphic to explain it visually (also fun thing to notice: the secondary colours for additive colour mixing are the same as the primaries for substractive colour mixing, and vice versa)

Soulmarked Part Four
Whirlwind
~~MORE~~
Logan was in eleventh grade now, a junior in high school. It was nearly Christmas break, so he had turned fifteen a bit more than a month ago. That meant it had been ten years, and the boy only had one of his four marks colored. Virgil… Virgil was a good soulmate. Logan helped to keep him grounded, and since he had joined public school, Logan also helped him with homework. However, he was still missing three of his soulmates. He had to meet them sometime, but Logan was impatient. He wanted answers and he wanted them as soon as possible. The boy was lost in thought, not noticing as he once again rain into a boy. He had to stop doing that. However he looked down at the freshman in confusion before looking down and seeing a red line fill in on his arm. It was the one closest to his wrist.
However as he rubbed his nose, he looked over the freshman. Logan recognized him as being part of the drama club. He was actually supposed to be the lead for this year’s play, Newsies. Ironically the reason Logan knew him? He was part of tech crew with Virgil. His first soulmate did the makeup, and Logan worked with the lighting. However he had never really interacted with Roman, hence why his soulmark was only appearing now. He offered a hand just has he had done to Virgil, the corners of his mouth moving up in one of his rare ‘smiles’.
“Hello. Roman O’Ryan correct? My name is Logan Foley. This is our first proper meeting. I believe you are one of my soulmates. Pleasure to make your acquaintance.”
Patton Foster was fourteen, and still had only grey, black and white. Where was his soulmate. Where was the one person he was supposed to spend his life with? He just felt alone. Patton tried to stay happy and bubbly, but he had nobody. His colors were still being kept from him! What did green look like again? What was purple? What was red or yellow or blue? Patton couldn’t remember anymore! He let out a soft whimper as he sat in the bathroom before shaking his head. No, he had to stay positive! His soulmate would come to him one day. He couldn’t lose hope. He had to stay positive…
Patton struggled a lot with things. He had to pay close attention to labels, as he couldn’t tell things like flavors just by glancing and seeing if the wrapper was a certain color. Art was a struggle, as he had to be very careful when choosing colors. His teachers went easy on him, as it seemed he was the only colorless person in the freshman class. He had to do an assignment on Blue in his psychology class, and ended up getting all the right facts, but accidentally drawing everything in brown because he wasn’t being careful enough. The teacher didn’t subtract points, but being laughed at wasn’t fun. Patton could only hope that his soulmate would show up soon. He didn’t want to be alone, to be without colors forever. He wanted to see the world, to see how bright things could be in their proper shades. Yes. That was his wish.
The first thing Roman registered was that his nose hurt. The second was that this big was vaguely familiar. And finally, that his ears were popping. Huh. The Junior was holding out a hand, and as Roman finally register his words, he reached forward and gripped it tightly. However instead of shaking it like a normal person, Roman dropped to a knee and kissed the back of his hand. Logan seemed to be rather confused. However the dramatic boy just kept that grin on his face as he stood.
“Logan? Ah yes, a name fit for a tenuous such as yourself! And you already know of me! I see I’m rather popular then? Ah no need to fear! I promise I will offer you as much time as you need with yours truly!”
Roman was proud of his speech, even if Logan seemed a bit confused. However be just nodded, taking his hand back. However he wasn’t allowed to get a word in edgewise before Roman continued to speak.
“Oh I was on my way to meet Declan! He’s another one of my soulmates! Come along fair sir, and you can meet him as well! He is rather amazing, even if he isn’t as grand as me!”
Yes, Roman was doing his best to keep Logan interested, grabbing his hand and dragging him through the hallway. He was just excited, and tended to not really listen to reason when he was like this. Logan didn’t seem to be objecting, just allowing himself to be dragged along behind Roman. Yes, this would definitely be an interesting day.
Roman dragged Logan through the school until they reached an almost never used study area. Logan didn’t come here often, liking to study his material at home and simply email a teacher if he had questions. However Roman yanked him to a table containing one other person. Oh, so there was yellow… Yes, it really was interesting.
De gasped as a burst of light appeared above Romans tattoo, and made its way to color part of Declan’s face. Dark blue filled in an open book, making the solid black of the pages able to be read now. ‘Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.’ The phrase was written in the book, and Logan looked to be interested in it. What seemed like a ribbon bookmark stretched up to his cheek, small blue stars above his eye and on his jawline coming to appear along with the book. It was rather beautiful. De finally looked up from his shoulder, looking Logan in the eye. That same dark blue… It really was a beautiful color.
“Declan Shea. Nice to meet you.”
“Logan Foley. And I assure you, the pleasure is mine.”
When De looked, he saw a black stripe on Logan’s arm fade to a rather pleasant looking yellow. His was the closest to Logan’s elbow, next to a purple colored one. That meant Logan had met another one of them too. Yes, Declan wanted to know more. He needed to know more. He needed to meet Purple. Maybe they would color another part of his body. Yes, De certainly hoped so.
He had been with Roman for years, keeping him safe and entertained. However when it came to Drama, Declan didn’t want to be on the stage. He wanted to be away from the eyes, but help at the same time. He was an assistant director. De was mostly in charge of props and making sure everyone was still doing their jobs. Honestly it was a wonder that he hadn’t met Logan yet. But he was usually in the lighting booth. And De never liked to go out of his way. Lights were doing fine so he never saw a point. Now he wished he had though. That was then though. And this was now. And in this now, he would take as long as he could to lead Logan. Who he was, what he liked… Anything he would be willing to share. And hopefully afterwords, he could meet Purple.
Virgil had spent the day at home. He had gotten sick the night before. And texted Logan to let him know. His soulmate was going to get his homework for him and meet him back at Virgil’s home later.
But he was late.
Logan was nothing if not punctual. Where was he? Had something happened? Had he gotten hurt? Lost? Hurt and lost!? Virgil took a shuddering breath. He needed to calm down. Logan had been helping him with his anxious thoughts, but they still got pretty bad when he was alone. However as he was calming himself down, Logan knocked a precise five times before letting himself in. But immediately Virgil noticed something different. He was very perceptive.
“Red and yellow? You met more of them? How were they?”
Virgil was clearly nervous, as he didn’t know if his soulmates were going to care about him. Logan only grinned, filling him in on how he met the pair before adding on.
“They want to meet you. I didn’t tell them much, but when you’re ready Virgil, they would like to be able to see you themselves. You don’t need to now. Take all the time you need.”
Thank god Logan was so calm. He had been scared about being forced into a room with them so soon, but Logan had planned ahead. This was why he was a great soulmate.
“Uh, yeah. I’ll meet them. But like not now. Not soon. I don’t think I could do that…”
Logan nodded before handing over Virgil’s homework. They would work on it as a distraction and talk later. Logan would help him through this, just as he would help with anything else. Patience and determination.

Witch Hunt Chapter 4: Seen
Ao3 link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/21410965/chapters/51171457
||You still need to eat.||
There was a dark grey smudge next to the line labeled ‘eating’. Azurea didn’t think that Keltä noticed that no number was added.
And the blonde’s groan was confirmation of her thoughts.
“You’re right, I forgot to subtract money for food.”
Azurea had been watching Keltä, or Yellow, as her friends had called her, as she worked for almost an hour. She had already memorized the expenses scrawled across the paper. She didn’t normally like watching such boring things, but this woman seemed interesting. Certainly very dashing, but that was irrelevant.
Yellow seemed to speak aloud as she worked, so she could hear everything that was going through her head.
||Rent is 40 dollars too much.||
“Right again! And 40 dollars is more than enough for a month of food.”
She hasn’t noticed I’m speaking to her, Azurea thinks.
It wasn’t uncommon. Although not many people could hear her, those that did often thought her words were their own thoughts. She tried to be helpful most of the time, giving little reminders or small compliments. Watching the world for centuries had made her realize that some kind words went a long way in making someone’s day. And she had always been one for helping others.
“Wait, what? Is someone there?”
Hm, she does know it’s me. Azurea smiles, giving the blonde a thumbs up she couldn’t see. The phantom liked to use silly gestures she’d picked up from other tenants. And a little boy down the hall always used this particular hand signal.
Azurea watches as Yellow begins to clean up for the day. But this was rather boring, so she decides to check on the building’s other tenants.
She knew them all by heart. There was Ms. Matterson, the lady who owned four cats. She often complimented the older woman who was always delighted to hear her voice. Although, Azurea didn’t think that the elder lady knew it was her. Perhaps just a figment of her imagination.
Then there was the Peterson family. The mother was a doctor and the father was a lawyer, so they often had babysitters for the twin boys. They were always fun to watch. The two children were only 3, the perfect age for Azurea to speak to. Children seemed to be more perceptive of her presence than adults. One of the boys in particular was especially apt to talk to her. Tyler. He called her ‘the whispering lady’. A smile tugs on her long face. He was sweet.
She goes to the family’s door, walking along the carpeted rug, but her footsteps make no sound. They left no trace on the rug either. Since the night she denounced her body to the witch, she could no longer interact with the physical world. She was an observer. At first, it was fun to see the lives of those around her. In the village she grew up in, the people were very open and honest. Or so she thought. After just a week of floating in and out of huts, she discovered hidden secrets. Affairs, stashed food supplies, stolen items. Back then, it had made her want to scream. She wanted to go to the elders, tell them what was transpiring, right the numerous wrongs. But she couldn’t. Azurea wasn’t able to talk to anyone back then. Or maybe no one wanted to listen.
She shakes her head, causing her long hair to flow around her. There was no use dwelling on the past. Her village was long gone, taken out hundreds of years ago by a deadly plague. Huts stood empty for decades before brush overtook the grounds. Then, there was only green. Azurea had sat in the grass for years, just watching the animals and the plants grow and die.
The physical world eluded her, she could no longer touch the things around her than they could her. She liked to braid her hair, it was something she could touch, something with substance. Practicing intricate braids gave her something to do as she watched. Her once dark brown hair had lightened through the years, until it settled on a silvery white. When it was loose, it hung around her like a cloud, thick and long, past her waist. Azurea had decided she liked her new silvery hair. It made her look ghostly.
It also gave her an older appearance, contrasting the rest of her face, which was youthful from only 24 years of life. Most of the other ghosts she saw were older, having died of old age.
Just as with the living, she could not interact with the dead. They often spoke to each other, sometimes chatting among themselves about their deaths before disappearing. Azurea had always thought herself more dead than alive, but she was not dead, not really. Only caught between worlds, her body being used by the witch. She often found herself wondering what the old woman had used her body for. If it was still young, or if it too had succumbed to the poison of time.
Slowly, she comes to a stop before the door labeled “Peterson”. She walks through the door to an empty apartment. Sighing, she turns, going to find another one of the tenants. Hopefully one of them would be doing something interesting.
“Just...call them...text them...anything. Say...you’re bored...upset...lonely.” Yellow grunted, her words interrupted by hits to the punching bag before her.
Azurea was laying on the ground, on her stomach with her chin resting on her hands. She was watching the blonde before her training. After a while, she decided to say something.
||Just call them. I’m sure they’ll be happy to hear from you.||
Yellow halts as she calls across the room, her hands still raised for a punch. “Don’t you think they’ll think I’m lame?”
The spirit cocks her head. Yellow was speaking directly to her. She had even turned her head slightly so that her amber eyes seemed to stare right through her.
||No. Pearl said you could call anytime, remember?||
Yellow wipes her forehead with her arm, her normally spiky hair limp with sweat. Her face, red from exertion, grows a shade darker. “You’re right. I’m just ashamed. To be lonely.”
Azurea’s eyes widen. This she could understand. She had been lonely for centuries. Not that she could say as much to a living being that probably thought she was just a figment of her imagination. So, she stayed silent.
She watches Yellow sigh and begin to unwrap the tape from her hands. “I’m surprised you haven’t left yet. Normally ghosts are gone after a day or two. The afterlife and all that.”
Tears begin to drip down the phantom’s face. The young woman was addressing her. Directly to her, still looking at the corner where she lay. She pushes herself to a sitting position.
||You can hear me?||
She asks before cringing. Of course she can hear you, you idiot, she chastises herself.
Yellow’s words echo her thoughts. “Yes, I can,” she says flashing a grin towards her.
Azurea slowly gets to her feet, taking a few steps towards the blonde. Her mind races, trying to think of the right words. She hasn’t had a conversation in...centuries.
||Hello.||
This earns her a short laugh. “Hey,” Yellow says, “You got a name, ghost? I don’t want to keep calling you ‘ghost’. It feels rude, you know?”
||Azurea.||
Yellow’s eyes widen slightly. “That’s an interesting name. It sounds old timey. Well, it’s nice to meet you Azurea.”
The invisible girl stands, shocked. Her hands hang stiffly by her side, her gaze locked on Yellow’s face. Tears are falling faster and faster, and she has to choke back a sob. I haven’t heard my name since Rozalia...
“Not that it’s really the first time we’ve spoken,” Yellow continues, “You say funny things sometimes. Like that one time, when I was watching a dog video, and you said the owner looked just like his dog.”
Sobs take over Azurea’s body. Her chest heaves as she falls to the ground, her hands clutching her face in agony. She wants desperately to stop crying, to talk to this strange woman who could hear ghosts.
“Are you...crying? Are you okay? I’m really sorry, I’m just not used to ghosts talking back.” Yellow’s face was soft, her pale, angular features smoothing out in concern.
Azurea gets up, her footsteps quickening to carry her out of the room. She walks, her tears streaming through closed eyes, trailing behind her in droplets until they fade away. She walks towards Yellow, then through her. But just as she is able to phase through the closed door, she hears the blonde speak again.
“You have really pretty hair.”
She stiffens.
||What?||
Her voice comes out sharper than she intended, almost a hiss.
Yellow jerks back her tone, her hands instinctively thrown up in fists. She had only caught a fleeting glimpse of the Azurea before the phantom disappeared back into the air. Her head whips around to search for the girl, her flaxen hair bouncing with each turn.
“Your hair. It’s nice, silvery and long. I think...I think it suits you,” her voice is unsure as she delivers the compliment.
Azure eyes fly open, tears still making rivers down her cheeks. Azurea’s body begins to take on a blue glow, as if it were radiating from her heaving chest. Questions swirl around her head. Why did she talk back? Why is she still talking? How did she see me? And why my hair? Why does she think it’s pretty?
||I need to go.||
Her voice is whisper soft as she flees the room.
In her wake, Yellow stands, her hands still up, looking around the room. She stares at the door, where she assumes the spirit had fled through. A few minutes pass before she lowers her arms and turns away.

I Am Damaged ~ Midoriya Izuku (BNHA)
Requested By: --
A/N: im dick nice guy so here's a one shot of the sweet boi :)
Tumblr media
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Izuku sighed as he trudged each step he took along the stairs to go to school's rooftop to meet up with his only friend in Aldera Junior High. '[Name]-san was really mysterious when he asked me to meet him at the rooftop after classes.' The green haired thought as he remembered the other male did not attend classes for the past few days too.
After awhile of walking up the stairs, the green haired saw the familiar metal door that was leading to the rooftop. Izuku quickened his pace a bit, but not that much to cause him to slip.
Well, he almost slipped but he manage to grab the stairs' railing to balance himself. A relieved sigh left his lips as he shuddered the thought of falling down the stairs if he did not managed to catch himself.
'I-I need to be careful...' The green haired male thought as he sweated a bit. His hands was already back to gripping the yellow colored strap of his bag. Getting to the door, Izuku opened it and quickly went outside the school to be at the rooftop. He scanned the area to find the [Hair color] haired male.
His lips formed a large smile to see his friend there in his casual attire. He was about to shout the [Hair color] haired male's name until he found himself he can't. A large lump on his throat blocking the [Hair color] haired male's name from coming out.
Izuku would have been happy to see the other male until his green colored eyes saw where the [Hair color] haired male was. Izuku's eyes stared at the scene in front of him in horror. His iris' shrunk as he looked at the back of the male. [Name] was only gripping the steel bar of the school's railing with both of his hands, body tilting forward that only one slip can make the [Hair color] haired male drop to his impending death.
Izuku's lips quivered as he was frozen. His feet stuck to the floor as he shook in fear. His yellow colored bag was already on the ground, forgotten, as he just stared at the back of the [Hair color] haired male. [Name] seemed to noticed his presence as he tilted his head to the side, giving Izuku a sided glance as he then look back at the scene bellow him again. Not minding his friend shaking in fear for his well being.
"[Na]... [N-Name]-san...?" Izuku managed to stuttered out as he look at the said male. [Name] only look below him, not even responding when Izuku called him out again. Eyes threatening to let the tears fall down as Izuku trembly clutched the material of the front of his black colored uniform. "P-please..."
"Izuku-kun," The said male just looked at his friend. His body still trembling as he did not know why the male would be in a dangerous situation. The green haired male was about to tell [Name] not to do what he think he is doing when [Name] finally said something again. But the male's words did not relieved the green haired boy's scared behavior.
"I am damaged. Far to damaged," The [Hair color] haired muttered but Izuku still managed to hear it. He tried to think this was just a nightmare. His body continue to tremble but he finally found himself moving again. Each step he took, desperate to get closer to his friend until [Name] looked at him again, a narrowed look on his face as he side glace Izuku that made him paused in getting near him. "but you're not beyond repair..."
[Name] shifted his body a bit, carefully putting his foot on the small excess concrete located on the side of the building as he finally faced Izuku's direction. A small smile formed on his face as his gazed soften. "Stick around here," He pause for a bit, until he locked at Izuku's green colored eyes with his [Eye color] colored ones. "make things better..."
"'Cause you've beat me fair and square..." Izuku did not understand what the male was saying but his green eyes widen at that line. "[N-Na--]" The green haired male could not bring himself to call out his friend's name. He saw the familiar blue colored aura surrounding the male's body, indicating he was using his quirk.
"W-what's your quirk, [Last name]-san?" Izuku curiously asked out of a blue. Remembering his manners, the green haired boy stuttered out, "I-if you don't m-me asking, that is!" This cause the other male to chuckle at the green haired teen. "Ah, don't worry about it Midoriya-san!" The [Hair color] haired male said as he picked up the ramen noodles and place it on his mouth. Currently the two were in a small ramen shop to get to know each other.
Finishing chewing his food and swallowing it. [Name] looked at green haired male beside him and grinned. "My quirk is not that special, really. I can produce this blue colored aura out of my body in a fifteen meter radius..." [Name] said as he then remembered. "Oh! It's also super hot." He said as he let out an amused laugh when he saw Izuku took out his notebook and wrote down what he had just said in a blank page.
Hearing the other male's laugh, Izuku could help but heat up as he quickly look at the other male. A smile on his lips as he shyly hid himself on his notebook. "S-sorry. It's m-my hobby to write e-every quirk I see..." Izuku shyly said as he peeked and saw the [Hair color] haired male smiled at him, causing him to hide his face again.
"Hey, I don't mind." [Name] shrugged as he patted the shy teen's back. He gave a thumbs up with his other hand to encourage the male. "If you like, I could tell you more about my "interesting" quirk." The [Hair color] haired suggested as he air quoted the word "interesting", making Izuku brighten up and giggled.
[Name] looked away from his friend's trembling form as he shifted his gaze to the floor, increasing his quirk's power a bit. "Please stand back now..." The [Hair color] haired male said as he heard the patter of Izuku's footsteps. "A little further..." The male muttered. Izuku could only shake, his eyes fixacated on his friend. He flinched a bit when his friend's quirk neared him a bit. "Don't know what this thing will do..."
"[N-Name]-kun..." The green haired muttered to himself as the said male raised his head to look at his. Izuku couldn't help but tear up when he saw the broken expression on his friend's face. "Hope you'll miss me..." Izuku's throat felt dry as he tried to step closer to the male but reeled back because of the heat the blue aura [Name]'s quirk produce.
"Izuku-kun, good morning." Izuku couldn't help but heat up when he heard his first name left the [Hair color] haired male's lips. His body trembling a bit as he slowly faced the other male who greeted him with a smile. "I... I-Izuku?!?" The green haired male questioned as he look at the male, beet red.
"Huh?" The [Hair color] haired male tilted his head a bit to the side as he gave a questioning glance on the shy boy. He pondered a bit on what could cause the green head such a reaction other than his shyness until he finally processed what he called him.
"A-ah! S-sorry, I t-though since we were friends we could call e-each others first names!" The [Hair color] haired male stuttered out as he waved his hands in front of himself. A small pink blush on his cheeks could be seen.
"Wish you'd kiss me..."
"I just don't get this one Izuku-kun!" [Name] frustratedly shouted as he glared at text book on his hand. The other boy let out a small giggle as he tried to explain the problem to his friend. "It's not that hard [Name]-san. You just gotta write the number here since they had the same form then subtract their signs as they showed division." Izuku explained as he look at his friend who groaned.
"No, it's to hard! Who even invented math anyways?!?" Shaking his head, Izuku quickly peck [Name]' cheek. It was no doubt his face was red and looking at the [Hair color] haired male beside him, a pink taint on [Name]'s cheek. Shyly, Izuku smiled at that.
"If you get this problem right, you'll get a kiss again [Name]-san..."
"Then you'd know I worship you..."
"Man, Izuku-kun, I kinda envy you." The [Hair color] haired male nonchalantly said out of a blue as he looked at the blue colored sky with his [Eye color] orbs with utter boredom. His arms crossed on his back head as he lay on the grassy ground.
Hearing what the [Hair color] haired male beside him said, Izuku let out sputters of incoherent words left his mouth as he quickly sat up from his laying position and stared at the male with shock and disbelief.
Briefly looking his friend's shocked form, the male continued on what he was saying. "I mean, you never gave up despite everyone doubting you, ya know?" The male said as his lips formed into a small smile. "Even when everyone is trying to bring you down, you never gave in and continue to press forward..."
[Name] shifted his body a bit to look at the green haired teen. A small grin on his face as he chuckled at the beet red teen. What left his mouth again made Izuku stuttering a lot as he just laughed and patted his friend's back.
"I kinda worship your determination, Izuku-kun!"
"I'll trade my life for yours." Green eyes widen as Izuku tried to go urge himself to run faster. His heart beat was beating quite fast as the adrenaline kicked in his system. His right arm trying to reach his [Hair color] haired friend.
"[Name]-san?" Izuku softly said as he stared at his friend. The [Hair color] haired male looked so utter broken and the bruises on his face made the other flinch at looking at them. Some parts of [Name]'s black uniform had been burnt as a few first and second degree burns on his [Skin color] skin can be seen. "[Name]-san... A-are you okay...?"
"Izuku-kun," The said boy let out a shaky sigh as he tried to get closer from his friend but paused when [Name] sent him a small smile. It wasn't the same smile he had seen in the past. This time, this smile didn't reach his eyes and Izuku didn't like it one bit. Not at all.
"sometimes you're very lucky to not have a quirk at all..." The tone of the male made Izuku flinch. It sound so broken and lifeless. Not at all like the [Name] he used to know. "[N-name]-san..." Izuku muttered as he look at the ground. "Y-you don't mean that..." [Name] let out a dry chuckle escape his lips as he look at his hands. A blue taint glowed as he stared at it with hatred and despair. "Yes, I do... Izuku-kun..."
Silence developed the two as [Name] raised his head and looked at the sky. It was already in a taint off pink and orange glow. The [Hair color] haired student stood up from his sitting position and dusted himself off, minding not to touch his injuries. As he finished, he began walking away.
Passing by his friend, he bid his good bye to the green haired boy. As he finally arrived at the metal door of the rooftop, he paused for a bit and said to Izuku which made the said boy immediately turn around and shouted his [Name].
"Sometimes, I wish I could trade my life for yours..."
"Oh my G-god!"
"And once I disappear..."
"Wait, hold on!" Izuku begged as he came into a full sprint. Each step he took made his legs hurt but he did not care for that. Even when the blue aura was slowly penetrating his clothes and burning it a bit.
Despite the pain he is feeling because of the male's quirk. He ran faster to the male who gripping the railing with just one hand now. "Clean up the mess down there..." [Name] looked at him when he uttered those words. His [Eye color] eyes that once shone with light was filled with sadness and despair. An apologizing smile on his face as look at Izuku.
"Not this way!" Izuku screamed as he was tried to change his friend's mind. Tears cascading down his face as his eyes pleaded for the [Hair color] haired male to not do it. Izuku's body forcefully stopped himself running as he panted, his gaze still not leaving [Name]'s form as the blue colored aura slowly disappeared. Leaving faint traces of it in their surroundings.
"[N-name]-san..." Izuku muttered as he looked at the male in the eyes. "O-our love i-is... God..." Izuku muttered as he gave a quivering smile to his friend. Silently telling that it's alright. "Our l-love is God... [Nick name]-kun..." The said male only gave him a close eyed smile until he look back at the ground. It was quiet for awhile and Izuku thought it was alright. That his friend won't do it.
"O-our love is G-god... Right?"
"Izuku-kun..."
But what he heard next made him scream in horror. He tried to reach the male as fast as he could as he sprinted to him.
This was just a dre-- no, a nightmare.
A horrendous nightmare...
It was not real...
Izuku screamed as he tried to reach out on the smiling male with all his might. His green ords widen in horror as he saw the male let go of the rails.
"I'll say hi to God..."
"Live well..."
"[NAME]!!!"

Smite colorbot
Tumblr media
as silly as that may seem to folks that aren't color blind.Įdit, why folks are downvoting the fact that im contributing to the subject as someone that suffers from similar problems. Green's, due to the fact that the contrast isnt as high to me and possibly other folks, they just blend into the jungle when sticking close to the walls. (even with CB correction, can make it harder for certain skins)Ĭhaac- hailstorm (when in the chaos side) (Protanopia) but due to how thins is playing out, i can see red, but extremely faded which causes some odd effects when it comes to "camouflage".Īs crazy as it may seem, some skins do blend into the environment and make it slightly harder to see even though your team tells you it's bs and a lie. My colorblind issue is with the red wave length in specific. I personally have a few issues with games due to colorblindness. I'm looking forward to playing Smite again, but it's too frustrating to play until this changes.ĮDIT: My problem isn't telling what buff I have. Nothing ticks me off more than devs who get praised for adding accessibility options by the masses, when the minority (those with accessibility issues) aren't actually benefiting from it. It's really frustrating to have "Colorblind mode" that doesn't actually help with everything. What few issues I had were fixed fairly quickly, but this one was so disheartening and frustrating that I'm not even wanting to play until this is changed.Īnd whoever is in charge of accessibility, tell them to double-check new art assets that have a DIRECT IMPACT on gameplay. I love Smite, and I've been playing for years without very many issues at all. And darken the purple buff to make it more vivid create distance between the two shades. Make it as light as the buff icons and minimap icons. In that case, please take the blue buff and make it much much lighter sky blue, pale blue, whatever you want to call it. I do think the new art style is a fantastic direction, and the symbols subtract from that. Obviously one solution would be to bring back the orbiting symbols around the god, but that seems to be against the direction HiRez wants making it look more. It would be unfair of me to bring up a problem without suggesting a solution. Okay, so I believe I've explained why it's a problem well enough. If there were any other way of differentiating them aside from color, like before, I would have no complaints and I could enjoy the game fully. This can cause hesitation, can drag my focus from the game itself, and denies crucial information to colorblind players. Of course it depends on the colorblindness, but for protanopia and protanomaly, the purple and blue buffs are indistinguishable. There is no way for a colorblind gamer to look across the lane and notice what buffs the enemy has walked out of the jungle with. In the new version, there is no difference aside from color, AND there is a new color to boot (purple). If I glanced at two gods in the distance with a red and orange buff, all I had to do was notice one of the icons orbiting them, and I'd know what buff they had. No matter what you do, some form of colorblindness will confuse 2 of the colors, but colorblind gamers easily waived that issue because the icons said everything. Blue buff is a little potion, speed buff is a tornado, red buff is a spikeball, and so on. Prior to these new buff effects, an icon depicting the type of buff orbited the god. You can deduce the problem I'm having, here. But they must have stopped there, as the art style of the game has made some drastic changes without any thought into colorblind accessibility. The HiRez employee that thought of that did a great job. It changes the health bars to blue and yellow, and it's perfect. Smite has a colorblind mode that I am extremely grateful for. The short way to explain it is that my red photoreceptors don't work/exist. It's one of the multiple variations of red-green colorblindness.

What do you think of Kanan’s new look? And just Kanan in general?
@theangeloffate YKNOW LEMME JUST TALK ABOUT THE WHOLE GANG’S NEW LOOKS.... SO HERE’S AN NOVEL LENGTH POST OF POSSIBLY SHODDY ANALYSIS AND OPINIONS :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SUFFICE IT TO SAY: THEY LOOK GOOD
Tumblr media
i really like what theyve done with kanan.  his new top has 3 things which i notice are common themes among the other character’s new looks: nice simple vertical lines, removal of extra pieces of armor and an overall simplification of his look.  which, by the way is wicked cool and has a looooot of shit worth overanalyzing
THE BEARD!!!! THANK THE FORCE FOR THE BEARD!! MY ONLY QUESTION IS SINCE IT LOOKS SO GREAT WHY WASNT HE DOING THIS BEFORE!! oh also i wonder why he went for that change. shaving just too much a pain to mess around with right after malachor and then he got used to it haha?
kanan’s mask thing is completely sick. i love the jaig eyes that’s such an awesome touch!! makes you wonder if everyone’s favorite uh jaig eye wearer his buddy rex hooked him up with that :3 or even sabine i guess? it makes me happy to think about kanan’s friends looking after him
good bye arm and shoulder armor?? im kind of sad cos i really do like that on him a ton but like i referenced above, his new design is a lot less busy? more simple, and i think i would miss it if i didnt think he looked just fne without it.
i love the new shirt. i never really liked his old one that much – it looks like that ugly sweater you love because its warm and cozy but doenst actually look good.  this one however is smooth and super fashionable.  i love the simple vertical lines. i swear it almost looks like something out of star trek haha. its much nicer than the other one.
the change of the black triangle on his chest to a yellow one is interesting. maybe meaningless but i love this shared element between the two shirts
he’s actually wearing his lightsaber on his belt in one piece now??? that is super exciting and i wonder what inspired that change in him
for what it’s worth, he’s also swapped out his grey-black gloves for brown ones.
as far as kanan in general goes, i have /some/ thoughts but i kinda wanna watch more and get a better sense of where he’s at before saying much
Tumblr media Tumblr media
hera’s new design has a lot of new elements very similar to the changes of kanan’s, which makes me smile. i think the new look makes her seem very cool and tough (though i already thought that about her haha)
just like kanan has dropped his armored shoulder, hera’s gotten rid of the protective shoulder pads as well. i think it’s really interesting that almost all of the characters have gotten rid of some extra bits of armor. i wonder if it’s a simple design preference or if there’s a functional reason to it?
her’s new undershirt is pretty slick.  the smoother more simple collar with vertical line designs follows a visual theme we see throughout these new outfits. in this same area, the top of the brown part of her flight suit has been lowered, and now has a straight top and thinner shoulder straps.
there are some new embellishments to her outfit - some sort of clip on the shoulder strap of her flight suit, little pouches on her upper arm that could carry stuff, and (MOST IMPORTANTLY) a visible button on the right shoulder strap.  this is silly but it kinda drove me crazy cos i couldn’t figure out how she got in or out of this outfit, but now i can actually visualize it
i love that her old uh ear cone covers? earmuffs? have been replaced with a ridiculously cool looking new pair. instead of the simple brown rounded surface, the tops are now flat and grey with gold designs on them and they look AMAZING.
also like kanan, she’s got a minor update to her gloves. they used to have a longer section that covered part of her forearms, but now the gloves just end at the wrist
Tumblr media
zeb’s new look might be the least noticeable, because it has more subtracting than adding, in terms of changes, but its still a nice update
the key point to zeb’s new design is that his shoulder armor is gone, just like kanan and hera.  now his arms are full exposed, shoulder on down, because apparently star wars rebels looks out for its furry fans ;P
the minty green swirly design on his left shoulder is out, replaced with a more subtle blue design on the left breast.  there’s also some blue designs on the right should as well. its very subdued a sort of cutting out extra elements, which as i’ve said, is something we see in other character’s new designs also
there is an added blue and white circle+triangle insignia on zeb’s chest + red stripes on his right shoulder.  i wonder if these designate rank within the rebellion or something like that?
the only other change to his chest piece i noticed is two new small light green sections cutting into the mid dark green portion, and that the line going right down the center of his chest is now thicker, almost has some sort of rope design going on
his belt has been updated, with the center now completely empty, no buttons or lights on the front, and some sort of pouches on either hip, kind of like the pouches added to hera’s shoulders
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it’s almost REQUIRED that sabine mix things up with her look cos that’s just Her Thing, so of course we’ve got some changes here :P they’re not massive changes, but especially when taken into consideration with her s1 look, you can really see how she’s developed
white/purple hair is really nice. overall look is a bit less wild that her past looks, with a smoother transition between the two colors and and a style that is a lot softer, if that makes sense? particularly as compared to s1
notice sabine no longer has her large paint covered gauntlets/gloves that she wore previously. this reveals more of the full black undersuit that she started wearing in s2. its a relatively minor change, but fits with the large theme among the whole cast, of superfluous bits on their outfit getting removed, for a more simple, serious look.
orange is out, purple is in, apparently!!  it’s nice look, a bit less loud than the colors sabine replaced.
most significant change to the armor is obviously that she’s gotten rid of the anooba on the left shoulder armor, in favor of our little bird friend. i guess sabine must’ve seen the little guy flying around and got inspired? i’m a bit sad though, i liked the anoobas very much.
Tumblr media
ezra’s new look is soooo awesome with how it gives him an outfit that incorporates the same overall visuals of his previous design, but with simple changes that show how much he’s matured.
hair!! i love the adorable floppy puppy dog hair to bits but the new haircut makes him look a lot older. there’s something about a visible forehead that does that!
even though the look *has* changed pretty significantly, elements like the yellow collar and the vest remain in place. i love how that ties the two looks together.
one big difference is that there’s no longer any design on his back. again with cleaning up and simplifying the character’s looks.
the new look follows the theme of the whole cast’s outfit changes though, in that the “vest” is simply a design on his top rather than an extra piece and it forms the same sort of nice smooth vertical lines we see on kanan, hera etc’s updated outfits
new outfit is much more form-fitting! he used to look downright scrawny and the looser outfit served to emphasize that.  you can even see some proper muscles there! :o he’s not exactly the next men’s health cover boy (we’ll leave that to kanan ;P), but physically he’s definitely matured (plus he’s taller).
a proper pair of pants (not ripped!) and //finally// armor for BOTH legs. it’s no longer something he cobbled together with whatever he could find, and more of a simple, functional outfit that suits a young knight/soldier.
he now carries a blaster. now maybe having a blaster was simply unneeded with his original lightsaber, but the evolution from stunning slingshot > lightsaber > blaster + lightsaber can’t be overlooked
yeah so anyways whole team looks awesome

Walkthrough
I feel like theres no walkthroughs out there for this game, cause when i got stuck i got so frustrated but could not find any??!! I’ll only be listing the more complicated searches bc i think the other parts of the game is pretty straight forward. Also note that you can’t just enter in the codes for the locks until you’ve found the clues for it, otherwise even if the code is right it won’t open. Anyways hopefully someone will find my walkthrough helpful...
CHAPTER 1
Mr. Ohkawa’s house
1. Table, item: Memo pad
2. Lift red rug, item: A sheet of paper with designs
3. Lift pillow on sofa, item: Pencil
4. Click on the top of the shelf on the right and it will say that you can see something but can’t reach it. Select your sword and click on it again, item: A sheet of paper with designs. Combine both pieces of paper
5. Select the Memo pad and use the pencil on it
6. Click on the big cabinet on the left, item: A silk dishcloth
7. Use the dishcloth on the painting to clean it. Now study the paper you put together earlier along with the sheet of paper with colours and numbers. (blue-1, yellow-2, red-9, green-8, purple-5) go to the mirror and look at the reflection of the painting. Circle->blue-1, Star->blue-1, Triangle->yellow-2, Heart->red-9.
8. Go back to the painting and click the 4 digit lock. The order of the shapes is circle, heart, triangle, star= 1921
CHAPTER 2
The Caretaker’s Room

2. Click on the very back book shelf to read all 4 books (i can’t remember if theres any clues in the dialogs, but you should read it anyways)
3. On the left side theres a stack of books on the ground, click on them twice to clear them away. You’ll find a book on the ground thats locked.
4. The piece of paper you found earlier is the clue to opening the book, notice the the patterns of each arrows is the same as the ones on the lock.  On the right side of the room on the wall is a frame, place the piece of paper on the frame and see where each arrow points to は(dots arrow), る(double line arrow), こ(wavy line arrow) grab back the piece of paper  and flip the paper over and find where the 3 hiragana are located. To find out where the hiragana is located click on the sheet of paper lying on the floor in the middle of the room. Dot arrow is 5, Double line arrow is 1, Wavy arrow is 2.
5. Go to locked book and type in 512 to open it.
CHAPTER 3
The Room 330
Technically this isn’t a complicated search but when i was playing through i got stuck, bc i didn’t realize you could select characters?! Anyways theres no items in the room so don’t bother trying to find anything.  After finishing talking to Nagi about all 3 things Tetsu still feels uncomfortable about something but he doesn’t know what. He also tells you to check the records again, so thats what we’ll do. Select Records and click the Character tab beside the item tab. Click on the character with no face and show it to Nagi.

The thing Ms.Mochizuki was looking for at the Hyoutan Pond was...(Select the Mirror)
The thing that indicates this hand mirror is special is... (Select the pocket watch)
Ms.Mochizuki...(She didn’t steal it)x2  it’ll ask you again but the answer is still the same.
The reason why Ms.Mochizuki had the mirror is... (Naoya gave it to her) Flip the mirror and select the part that says Chiyo upside down at the top.
CHAPTER 4
The 7th Basement -prison-
(unfinished?? Theres a hiragana puzzle in the 7th basement and you don’t need to solve it to move on to the next part, i tried every combination to unlock it and none of them work so who knows??) You can’t open the metal box with the hiragana until Chapter 5.
1. Click on the left cell and grab the item on the floor by using your sword, item: screwdriver
2. On the right side of the wall theres a panel, click on it and unscrew it with the screwdriver, item: small key
3. Enter the right cell and unlock the drawer with the small key, item: film, white chalk
4. Use the white chalk on the wall above the drawer (where the light bulb is shining...) to reveal the secret message. Leave the cell and click on the right cell again but look through the bars this time to see the code (512)
5. Click on the table where the camera sits and enter in 512 in the 3 digit lock, item: film
6. Go to the general’s office and use the key to open the door, click on the desk to find a piece of paper that says “We mustn’t forget the “War” thats the clue for the 4 digit lock in the room. To find the code for the lock select the book in your items list about the poisonous weeds and read it. Enter in the year of the war into the 4 digit lock (1839), item: lever
7. Go back to the prison, select the flashlight in your item list and use the screwdriver to unscrew the flashlight to get Battery. Click on camera and put in the 2 films and battery in.
8. Look at the projection on the wall from the camera. Go to the elevator and put the lever into the slot and click on it to turn it on. On the pin pad thingy, hit the areas the projection on the wall showed.
The 8th Basement -Torture room-
1. Use sword to cut down the wooden rabbit doll on the right side on the wall.
2. Click on the 3 chains on the back of the room, it shows you that the 3 chains are hanging down at different heights. Im going to assign numbers to the horizontal lines on the wall, the very top line will be 1, the line below 2, below line 2 is 3 and the very last line on the bottom 4. So the heights the chains hang from, from left to right is 4, 1, 2. Click on the panel on the right side of the room and pull the switch to the same heights as the chains. (4, 1, 2) Something will lower down from the celling, grab the wooden key.
3. Use the wooden key on the drawer, item: Old record. Put the record on the record player. Listen to the sounds very carefully. There’s 5 beats.
4. Click on the ?? blood spattered object on your left ( i don’t know what it is) and click on the buttons and you’ll hear beats that sound like what the record player was playing. Hit them in the order the record player plays it. If you're kind of tone deaf like me hit the 1st button, 3rd button, 2nd button, 3rd button, 1st button. Inside you’ll get an item: Flathead screwdriver
5. Use the flathead screwdriver on the axe to unscrew it. Select the wooden doll and use the axe on it, you’ll get an item: key to 9th basement
The 9th Basement -Laboratory-
1. Click on the gloves on the sink, select the gloves and grab the boiling purplish pink flask on the left. Pour the contents of the flask down the sink, item: key to 10th basement, metallic hook
2. Open the drawer you can open, item: Empty bottle.
3. The drawer beside it put the metallic hook into the hole, then use the pocket watch to hang it from the hook, item: film.
4. Go to the Prison room and put in the new film into the camera, look at the projection of the new film and you see V+H on the wall.
5. Go back to the Laboratory and select the empty bottle and click on the shelf with many bottles. It askes you if you’ll combine the chemicals in the empty bottle, choose “yes”, the first chemical you put in first is something that starts with a ‘V’ =Vernunft, the next chemical you put in next starts with an ‘H’ =Hilfe.
6. Now you’re prepared, so go to the door and  enter the 10th basement.
The Cultivation room of Hades grass
You’re timed for this one, 249 seconds, thats like roughly a bit more than 4 minutes. There’s not much in this room. There is a piece of paper buried in the sand in front of you, it’s the clue to opening the door on your left. Notice on the celling near the back of the room there is a vent, but you can’t reach it. Go to your left where theres a door, click on it and you’ll find that theres 2 knobs, one with a Sun on it and the other with a Moon. For the Sun knob turn it to 1, and turn it to 9 for the Moon knob. The door will open revealing a stepladder, grab it and put it to the vent then grab your screwdriver to unscrew the vent and leave.
Unlocking Chapter 5
To get to chapter 5 you need to trust a certain someone in the chapters before. The hints is prepared in Chapter 1 Interrogation- A suspect/Chapter 2 Interrogation-Mitsuru/Chapter 2 The Opened Book. After you meet the requirements a new route will appear in Chapter 4.
In Chapter 1- A suspect, select the choices (I think the probability is low), (Lock the room)
In Chapter 2- Mitsuru,  select (I have no objection), if you choose (I have an objection) I'm pretty sure if i remember correctly he will ask you one more time, but i think it’s important that you select the right answer the first time, because that’s sign of trust??
In Chapter 2- An opened book, select (Mitsuru Fuwa) for who to ask about the incident
After going through and doing the 3 above you should meet the requirements now, go to Chapter 4- Vanished Yamato (2) and choose (Let’s help Yamato), this time Nagi will say something about leaving a message for Mitsuru, choose (I agree) and leave a message for Mitsuru.
In Chapter 4- General Kongou, you’ll now have another route when you play it. First make sure you have the right liquid to save yourself. It will say the same dialogs as before except this time it will go to Chapter 5 when it ends instead of continuing on Chapter 4 stories.
Mitsuru finally arrives to save the day~ *cries*, sorry for doubting you this whole time Mitsuru, but i mean it was hard for me to trust Mitsuru because there’s several endings where you see a figure with Mitsurus hair kill you??
CHAPTER 5
The 10th Basement -Cultivation Room-
1.Theres nothing left to do in the laboratory, go to the Cultivation room. In the ground in front of you theres a piece of paper buried in the sand.
2.On your left theres a door with 2 knobs. Turn the Sun knob to 1 and the Moon knob to 9, item: a note. On the note it says “At 8:15, your time will stop” this is your clue to opening the door at the very back of the room. Go into your items list and click Nagi’s pocket watch, turn the hands on the watch to 8:15, item: key.
3. Now using the leftovers from the pocket watch combine it with the metallic seal stamp, item: list of members of Yozakurakai
4. Open the door at the very back of the room with the key and go inside.
The 11th Basement
1.Click on the tub that is against the wall, item: A letter.
2.Click on the body bag, item: Bloodstain Gloves. Take a closer look on the gloves and on the inside of the glove it says A.K. 226
3.Click on the door and beside the 3 digit look you will notice a weird symbol, turn your phone around and you’ll see that the symbol is actually the letters AK. From the gloves and letter earlier AK has 3 digits beside it which is 226, however AK is upside down so enter in 922, so that upside down it will read as 226.
In The Cage
1. Click on the metal box in the left corner. After pushing it aside it will reveal a metallic plate with hiragana on it. Turn the inside plate to に and outside plate toと. NOTHING will happen BUT, it’s ok nothing is suppose to. (You’ll notice on the opposite side it will read the 3 hiragana in red on the prison wall, and it’s because that’s what you were suppose to do that first because there is no other way of knowing what hiragana to turn it to, but i think it would be very confusing for me to explain that.. LOL...)
2. Click on the metal box and type in the clue from the metallic plate which is と, に, へ the metal box will open, item: Revolver
Nagi -Fighting- + 2nd Cards
This scene leads to 3 different endings depending on what you do. If you choose to not do anything when Nagi starts slashing you by just waiting 5 seconds the next story will start playing and you’ll get Tokkoh ending. If you click on the revolver before the 5 seconds is up it will lead you to Nagi ending. If you remembered about the singer that suicided and showed Nagi the mirror you’ll get Prison Boys and the final ending. Once you get the Prison Boy ending you can now go back and find the 2nd cards of each character. I think finding the 2nd cards were quiet easy aside for a few.
2nd cards, the ones that were a bit tricky to find were Nagi, Chiyo and the Generals. Nagi and Chiyos cards can’t be found through just searching bc you'll get a headache trying to find them and you won’t find it. To get their cards you have to talk to a character multiple times until they hand you the card.
For Nagi’s go to where the hint tells you to go (Chapter 1: Street investigation (1)) and keep talking to Nagi and choose to (No) everytime it asked you to leave the room or not. After talking to him and not leaving he’ll start yelling at you but keep talking to him and he eventually give you his 2nd card.
For Chiyo go to where the hint tells you to go (Chapter 2: Street investigation with Yamato (4)) and don’t talk to the man on the left, talk to the street vendor and keep talking to the street vendor again and again until the street vendor hands Chiyos 2nd card
For Generals card it doesn’t list where to find it other then being somewhere in Chapter 4. Where his 2nd card is found is The Cultivation room of Hades grass his card is found on the bottom left.
If you have any other troubles finding the 1st cards or any of the other 2nd cards visit this link:https://yurugame.info/novel/seec-kangokuboy/seec-kangokuboy-complete-01.html Although it’s in Japanese it has pictures showing where to find the 1st and 2nd cards :D

Yellow
Tumblr media
(all picture references included at the end)
Starting with my own yellow associations…
For a long time I have loved pastel shades of the primary colours. I noticed with my colour collages how drawn I am to the primaries together, and particularly pale shades of the primaries.
I love yellow. This often manifests in small preferences (I find wearing yellow clothes hard, but often buy yellow flowers. My tumblr and Gmail home pages are pastel yellow). Compared to red and orange yellow is one of the softer warm colours and because of that I’m drawn to it in my home space, particularly in the kitchen where much of our crockery is yellow.
Like many people, I hated yellow as a child and only grew to appreciate it in adulthood. Having babysat a lot of kids and in conversation with friends I know that children commonly despise yellow.
This is pure speculation, but I can think of two reasons why this might be.
Firstly, yellow is one of the most solidly gender neutral colours in common Western connotation. Our preferences are tailored by our conceptions of ourselves. In early life, as children develop their ideas about themselves, there is the constant influence of ascribed gender. You’ll often hear boys say that they don’t like pink because it’s a ‘girl’s colour’. In an infinite loop of influence and manifestation, colours are used to differentiate and prescribe binary gender. So children come to use colour and other taste preferences to determine and portray their gender. Visual cues, like colour, become an easy language for kids to understand and distinguish binary gender. I wonder if maybe kids don’t like yellow because it is a harder colour to relate to, as it doesn’t fit easily into dominant binary gender associations.
The second reason I think kids might not like yellow is because of its association with urine. Kids often dislike both yellow and brown.  Simply this is maybe because children find ablutions ‘gross’. But on a more unconscious or hidden level I think maybe kids have a strong aversion to these colours because of socialized shame. During early childhood shame is often a device used to socialize kids into gaining control over their bodies. Kids learn very early that it is embarrassing to pee in front of people. I wonder if kids are resistant to colours like brown and yellow that are associated with the shameful aspects of the human body. The shame around urinating and defecating is often tied up with shame around genitals and sex, and bodies in general. We are taught very early that these aspects of our bodies should remain private. The main social mechanism for this learning is through shame and embarrassment.
Even among adults many people do not like yellow.
Tumblr media
Despite kid’s often not liking yellow, it is often associated with children and infants (in particular). Lots of toys are yellow, and lots of children’s characters wear yellow (Paddington Bear, Curious George etc.). It is often the colour parents paint babies’ nurseries before they know the assigned sex.
I couldn’t say yellow for a long time and like many kids said “lello”, to such an extent that I attended OT. Funilly, I found myself making the same slip up when I was talking fast during our colour exercises!
There are lots of associations with yellow…

In advertising and movies yellow is often used to denote homeliness, warmth and platonic intimacy. It is the colour of mothers and friends.
Known for its visibility, yellow is often used on road signs, and on the flashing neon lights of Las Vegas.
Yellow is commonly associated with softness more than strength. It is often connected with concepts of gentleness or humility, and not often with bravery or aggression. Very few sport’s teams wear yellow.
The common English idiom “yellow-bellied” describes cowardice.
It is sometimes associated with sickness, but not usually with danger. Its positive associations are with happiness and warmth; its negative associations are with cowardice, weakness and ego.
 Political associations:
While usually considered an innocuous colour, in Jewish history yellow is associated with the yellow Magen David (star of David) that Jewish people were forced to wear in Nazi Germany.
Tumblr media
Recently, it might be associated with the yellow vest protests in France, motivated by a response to high tax and government tax expenditure.
In racist rhetoric yellow is sometimes used to describe people of Chinese decent.
After red, yellow is sometimes associated with communist media. It features in the communist flag.
“Yellow bone” is a term used in South Africa to describe black people with a pale skin tone. It ties into a lot of power dynamics around race and the privilege of white and paler skinned people. On dating websites people often describe themselves as yellowboned as a desirable feature. Interestingly it is used almost exclusively to describe women.
In the American context “yellow bone” is used alongside “red bone” which describes people of mixed decent.
 Religious associations:
There are diverse cultural connotations of yellow with divinity
In Bhuddism, monks were saffron robes
In ancient Greek and Roman mythology Gods are often described with golden hair
In Christianity yellow and gold are associated with the light of God. In Christian art (particularly Renaissance art) angels are often depicted with yellow halos.
If you Google yellow the first thing that comes up is the song by Coldplay.
Looking a little further here are some sort facts about yellow:
It is luminous colour
On the subtractive colour wheel yellow is a primary colour, sitting opposite purple
On the light spectrum it is a secondary colour, made by mixing green and red in equal parts
Yellow fruits and flowers contain cartenoids, a pigment found in photosynthesizing organisms
Yellow pigment is produced from yellow ochre, but can also be extracted from other organic sources such as turmeric, saffron and ginger. It is also found in orpiment mineral, though this is highly toxic
Because it is comparatively pale, in visual media it is usually a background colour rather than a text colour
Tumblr media
  A yellow history:
Yellow ochre pigment is widely found, and because of this it is one of the oldest pigments to be used in cave art
Alongside red it is one of the oldest colours in art history
In ancient Egypt it was used in a lot of tombs, associated with wealth and divinity. It was believed that the bones of gods and kings were made of gold
More recently yellow is often associated in art with Vincent Van Gogh, most famously in his Sunflowers painting
During Picasso’s blue period he used yellow alongside the blue to highlight faces and objects through visual contrast
Tumblr media
This yellow ochre horse was found in the Lascaux cave in France, dating back 17000 years.
Medical:
• Some infants (commonly, also adults) get jaundice - when red blood cells break down giving the skin a yellow orange hue
• In highschool my friend Melody had serious anorexia and ate only carrots. After a while her skin turned yellowy
• Yellow fever is a virus spread by mosquitos, common in tropical areas, that causes jaundice

Adding and Subtracting Color
If you've ever played around with color on any computer program, you’ve probably seen a module that listed RGB or CMYK colors with some numbers next to the letters. Ever wondered what those letters mean?
CMYK
Tumblr media
CMYK stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key (Black). Those also happen to be the colors listed on your ink cartridges for your printer. That’s no coincidence. CMYK is the subtractive color model. It’s called that because you have to subtract colors to get to white. That means the opposite is true -- the more colors you add, the closer you get to black. Think about printing a piece of paper. When you first put a sheet in the printer, you're typically printing on a white piece of paper. By adding color, you're blocking the white wavelengths from getting through. Then, let's say you were to put that printed piece of paper back in the printer, and print something on it again. You'll notice the areas that have been printed on twice tend to colors closer to black. I find it easier to think about CMYK in terms of its corresponding numbers. CMYK works on a scale of 0 to 100. If C=100, M=100, Y=100, and K=100, you end up with a black color. But, if all four colors equal 0, you end up with true white.
RGB
Tumblr media
RGB color models, on the other hand, are designed for electronic displays, including computers. RGB stands for Red, Green, Blue, and is based on the additive color model of light waves. This means, the more color you add, the closer you get towards white. For computers, RGB is created using scales from 0 to 255. So, black would be R=0, G=0, and B=0. White would be R=255, G=255, and B=255. When you're creating color on a computer, your color module will usually list both RGB and CMYK numbers. In practice you can use either one to find colors, and the other color model will adjust accordingly. However, many web programs will only give you the RGB values or a HEX code (the code assigned to color for CSS and HTML). So, if you're designing digital images, RGB is probably your best bet for choosing colors.

CSS Variables + calc() + rgb() = Enforcing High Contrast Colors
As you may know, the recent updates and additions to CSS are extremely powerful. From Flexbox to Grid, and — what we’re concerned about here — Custom Properties (aka CSS variables), all of which make robust and dynamic layouts and interfaces easier than ever while opening up many other possibilities we used to only dream of.
The other day, I was thinking that there must be a way to use Custom Properties to color an element's background while maintaining a contrast with the foreground color that is high enough (using either white or black) to pass WCAG AA accessibility standards.
It’s astonishingly efficient to do this in JavaScript with a few lines of code:
var rgb = [255, 0, 0]; function setForegroundColor() { var sum = Math.round(((parseInt(rgb[0]) * 299) + (parseInt(rgb[1]) * 587) + (parseInt(rgb[2]) * 114)) / 1000); return (sum > 128) ? 'black' : 'white'; }
This takes the red, green and blue (RGB) values of an element’s background color, multiplies them by some special numbers (299, 587, and 144, respectively), adds them together, then divides the total by 1,000. When that sum is greater than 128, it will return black; otherwise, we’ll get white. Not too bad.
The only problem is, when it comes to recreating this in CSS, we don't have access to a native if statement to evaluate the sum. So,how can we replicate this in CSS without one?
Luckily, like HTML, CSS can be very forgiving. If we pass a value greater than 255 into the RGB function, it will get capped at 255. Same goes for numbers lower than 0. Even negative integers will get capped at 0. So, instead of testing whether our sum is greater or less than 128, we subtract 128 from our sum, giving us either a positive or negative integer. Then, if we multiply it by a large negative value (e.g. -1,000), we end up with either very large positive or negative values that we can then pass into the RGB function. Like I said earlier, this will get capped to the browser’s desired values.
Here is an example using CSS variables:
:root { --red: 28; --green: 150; --blue: 130; --accessible-color: calc( ( ( (var(--red) * 299) + (var(--green) * 587) + (var(--blue) * 114) / 1000 ) - 128 ) * -1000 ); } .button { color: rgb( var(--accessible-color), var(--accessible-color), var(--accessible-color) ); background-color: rgb( var(--red), var(--green), var(--blue) ); }
If my math is correct (and it's very possible that it's not) we get a total of 16,758, which is much greater than 255. Pass this total into the rgb() function for all three values, and the browser will set the text color to white.
At this point, everything seems to be working in both Chrome and Firefox, but Safari is a little cranky and gives a different result. At first, I thought this might be because Safari was not capping the large values I was providing in the function, but after some testing, I found that Safari didn't like the division in my calculation for some reason.
Taking a closer look at the calc() function, I noticed that I could remove the division of 1,000 by increasing the value of 128 to 128,000. Here’s how that looks so far:
:root { --red: 28; --green: 150; --blue: 130; --accessible-color: calc( ( ( (var(--red) * 299) + (var(--green) * 587) + (var(--blue) * 114) ) - 128000 /* HIGHLIGHT */ ) * -1000 ); } .button { color: rgb( var(--accessible-color), var(--accessible-color), var(--accessible-color) ); background-color: rgb( var(--red), var(--green), var(--blue) ); }
Throw in a few range sliders to adjust the color values, and there you have it: a dynamic UI element that can swap text color based on its background-color while maintaining a passing grade with WCAG AA.

Putting this concept to practical use
Below is a Pen showing how this technique can be used to theme a user interface. I have duplicated and moved the --accessible-color variable into the specific CSS rules that require it, and to help ensure backgrounds remain accessible based on their foregrounds, I have multiplied the --accessible-color variable by -1 in several places. The colors can be changed by using the controls located at the bottom-right. Click the cog/gear icon to access them.

There are other ways to do this
A little while back, Facundo Corradini explained how to do something very similar in this post. He uses a slightly different calculation in combination with the hsl function. He also goes into detail about some of the issues he was having while coming up with the concept:
Some hues get really problematic (particularly yellows and cyans), as they are displayed way brighter than others (e.g. reds and blues) despite having the same lightness value. In consequence, some colors are treated as dark and given white text despite being extremely bright.
What in the name of CSS is going on?
He goes on to mention that Edge wasn’t capping his large numbers, and during my testing, I noticed that sometimes it was working and other times it was not. If anyone can pinpoint why this might be, feel free to share in the comments.
Further, Ana Tudor explains how using filter + mix-blend-mode can help contrast text against more complex backgrounds. And, when I say complex, I mean complex. She even goes so far as to demonstrate how text color can change as pieces of the background color change — pretty awesome!
Also, Robin Rendle explains how to use mix-blend-mode along with pseudo elements to automatically reverse text colors based on their background-color.
So, count this as yet another approach to throw into the mix. It’s incredibly awesome that Custom Properties open up these sorts of possibilities for us while allowing us to solve the same problem in a variety of ways.
