y'know, i keep making a habit of swinging my bat at hornets nests, but i have to say i'm getting so, so tired of people complaining about shows not making perfect sense when they aren't even close to done. we're four episodes into this season of doctor who. we're four episodes into this season of bridgerton. and yet in both fandoms i keep seeing people whine that such and such didn't make sense or it wasn't explained all the way and by god you guys i think maybe explanations might come later in the season. this is something most viewers will recognize as being called a 'plot.'

not a hallucination but i once dreamt about dr. Ratio listing off all kinds of intelligence after i had said that i was an idiot. he told me that, although i lack mathematical knowledge, that doesn't translate to me being stupid, but it just meant that i did better in other areas and began explaining why and how all of that made sense.

instead of thanking the poor man for cheering me up i got irritated and punched him. what is wrong with me !! needless to say, i woke up very confused. ;;

i have a drawing of ratio taped to my notice board right in front of my desk with him saying "get back on the grind the bread aint gonna get itself" or something along those lines, so sometimes when i feel disappointed in myself for being dumb i look into his eyes and think of how absolutely horrible it would feel to be disapproved by the veritas ratio and get back to work

but yeah i agree that childe would be better at lifting morale but if that ginger did manifest in my life in any way i would genuinely start tweaking out like that one scene of giorno giovanna rolling on the ground tweaking out. that man belongs on the other side of my laptop screen 🗣️🗣️🗣️

not trying to be a plagiarism apologist but I feel like a lot of ppl don't recognise that they're plagiarising bc they don't understand why u cite sources and therefore don't get how to do it properly. and idk if the focus on "copying/stealing" is actually constructive bc their teachers taught them to rewrite stuff in their own words so they don't understand the point of synthesising information.

the point is if ur actually contributing smth new then u NEED sources to underline that you didn't just make up what ur saying on the fly - rather than it being undesirable to admit to any ideas you didn't just dream up all on your own. and the contribution might just be summarising the existing literature, or applying existing ideas to a new context. actually coming up with new theory is the culmination of a lifetime of work.

I don't think we necessarily do anyone favours by pretending it's super obvious and intuitive. it's something you learn by doing, by writing progressively more original work as you get comfortable. the idea that information "belongs" to individuals is not necessarily constructive in the long run. obviously it's not okay to pass other people's work off as your own but understanding sources as proof texts rather than artist credits helps you to understand how you should interact with them. it's interesting to me that a lot of these ppl flip solely between just reading an article to you with different syntax vs just 100%making shit up out of nowhere which kind of tells you they think original work means doing the latter and when they understandably fail to do that all or even most of the time they resort to plagiarism

i have this unfounded theory that a lot of media is so consumed with trying to one-up each other and be different that they forget that simplicity is often just as effective of a tool in telling a compelling and cohesive story
