I understand the thing about Naruto because I also don't remember much anymore and I'm on the journey with watching +1000 episodes of One Piece right now, so it might take a while for me to rewatch Naruto again (it's been over 10 years since I watched some episodes of Naruto and Naruto wasn't finished when I stopped watching, so I also lack a lot of knowledge. I was reading the Orphic Argonautica last night and the author has mentioned the various methods of divination Apollo knows and guess what? One of them is prophesying by studying the entrails of organisms. As soon as I read that I was reminded of your headcanon of Apollo being into hepatoscopy for divination and I giggled.

Hehe, so fun fact, the overall practice of divination by studying the entrails of animals (including blood, lungs, intestines and so forth) is extispicy while hepatoscopy is specifically using the liver in prophecy and divination readings.

If, like magic in old text exactly like the sort Medea is described as using, the types of divination spoken about in the texts are reflections of the popular divination cultures of the time, I much rather prefer ascribing those to Apollo than I do some vague, somewhat mysterious power which he uses to see the will of the fates, especially since it's mentioned a few times that he'll teach his sons the language of the birds and how to read their signs and so on and so forth.

In short: HEPATOSCOPY APOLLO IS COOL!! HE'S SO NEAT!! Apollo at the altar who predicts the coming droughts and famines from the entrails of his flock!! It's just such a neat little image (to me)!

Also the Orphic Argonautica bangs, genuinely I hope you enjoy it! Orpheus is an insane man and I do not think him along with the collective subspecies of mythical man known as 'sons of Apollo' get enough credit for how truly unhinged they are at any given point in time.

as barton was left to his own devices in the kitchen, it only then just occurred to him how the seven-fold bistro had a tv in the side of their lobby. and that could potentially be very bad if they weren't talking about the latest humdrum gossip in relation to bruce wayne or something — so, he would have to find a way to not appear suspicious and also, turn it off if they were talking about the death of the two guards already. barton sighed to himself as he pushed a chunk of the chicken on his plate to the side. he really had his work cut out for him here, didn't he?

of course, there might be a chance that jervis could handle it, he thought. but the last time he had handled something, he'd done it by sticking pins into someone. barton suddenly found himself standing up as if he was startled by the very thought of something like that happening to ravi. he had to create some sort of plan, for he couldn't just bust out of those doors, even if nothing was going on on that television. he tapped on the cold steel of the table below him with his sharpened nails as he contemplated what to do. maybe he could just stick by the almost saloon style doors of them for a bit and listen in on what exactly was going on out there.

just as ravi and jervis had made it to the front of the restaurant, his feet were carrying him to push his entire body flush against the doors, but with not enough pressure to actually open them. he thought he could hear jervis's voice now, but it was very distorted by the wall between him and the rest of the bistro. so he would have to get closer to the outside if he actually wanted to hear anything. while barton was now stressing, ravi honestly couldn't have looked more relaxed, as any friend of barton's was a friend of his. ( except they weren't really friends at all... but i digress. ) he smiled slightly whenever he heard him mention the soup out of approval, ❝ ooh... good choice. i love our mulligatawny soup, but it usually has rice in it, rather than on the side. but i could always request that our chefs put it there instead if you want. ❞

he shrugged nonchalantly and nodded, knowing that the kitchen would be more than willing to do something like that for jervis. ravi could feel his ears perk up and barton's ears did the same exact thing as a breaking news alert popped up on the tv. alright, well, he was not going to be waiting inside the kitchen any longer for something to happen — that was for sure — and so he opened up one of the doors in such a way that it wouldn't attract much attention. barton seemed to materialize out of quite literally nowhere, at least from ravi's point of view, before he was grabbing him by the opposite shoulder a little aggressively but not too much.

barton had played this off as him trying to playfully scare the other but what he was really aiming to do was turn the tv off. and that's exactly what he managed to do with the remote below the counter while ravi was too busy with being shocked, but then laughing in response to barton's 'cheeky' behavior as he spoke to him in between laughs and pushed him away from him, before punching his arm. ❝ oh, my god. you scared me! you jerk, why did you do that? don't tell me that this is you still being bitter that i beat you last time we sparred or something. ❞ ravi was still laughing, so he obviously didn't mean anything that he said in a malicious way as barton himself tried to catch onto the other's wrist before he punched him, but failed.

barton chuckled a few times before nursing the spot where ravi punched him with his arm. he made himself look guilty, only after winking at jervis whenever the other party wasn't looking, as if to say ' you're welcome ' and said, ❝ ahh, you caught me. but scaring you totally satisfied my need for revenge after you beat me. so, at least there's kind of a positive side to all of this. and just to keep you in the loop, jervis, me and ravi sometimes spar together because we're both boxers, ❞ barton gestured to the other man with one hand while ravi came down from his laughter. he made a playful ' shoo ' gesture towards barton, then. ❝ hey. me and your friend, who is also my friend now, by the way, were having a rather rousing conversation about his interest in the mulligatawny soup before you came along. so if you wouldn't mind... ❞

ravi left barton to fill in the lines of what else he was going to say before the blonde raised his hands in feigned surrender and sat down across a few seats away from them behind the counter. ravi laughed, making a ' come hither ' gesture towards himself, ❝ i was just joking, barton. you don't have to sit so far away. but anyway, i'll put in your order for the soup, if there are no objections? ❞ barton moved silently closer to ravi in particular, setting down his curry in front of him. he seemed oddly a bit protective of ravi based on the look he gave jervis.

it was one that said ' you better continue being nice to him or i'll kill you. ' and trust me, barton would do it, too.

That. That post you made about comparing satoru & suguru to a puppy and a wolf, the way they pretend to be the opposite of what they are. You have awoken something inside of me and filled my brain with thoughts. I NEED to expand on it WALK WITY ME WALK WITH ME

Satoru and suguru who are both protective but in vastly different ways- satoru who I think easily uses his reputation as “the strongest” to make sure his partner doesn’t get anywhere even close to being in danger, who the public knows is strong, and that’s pretty much all he needs. Who’s tall, who’s got an intimidating stare, he’s outwardly terrifying when he wants to be. There’s no question to it, when he wants to, he could scare anyone away.

And then there’s suguru. He isn’t gojo by any means, and he’s not got quite the same loud, confident and sort of endearingly arrogant demeanour that satoru does- but what he does have is a sort of mysterious danger about him that is almost if not more scary than gojo and his status. He’s all gentle and calm, a true carer to his partner, and he’s the last person you would expect to have a bite. But he does. And the fact you can’t outwardly tell, the fact that he’s no bark and all bite as soon as someone decides to push their luck- I feel like that’s what makes him so much more intimidating if he needs to be. If you look past the usually laid back facade he puts on for the world, you could absolutely see a sort of feral, burning desire to keep people close to his heart safe. With gojo you KNOW what you’re fucking around with. And to fuck with gojo or someone he truly cares for, you’ve gotta be an idiot. But the fact that you’re pretty much walking into the unknown when you wanna mess with suguru- IM SO NORMAL ABOUT HIM I SWEAR…. (I’m not. I’m deeply in love with him SOMEONE SEDATE ME RIGHT NOW)

honestly u phrased this so well that i barely know what to add U GET THEM…. i think both of them are sooooo protective but sugu is without question the more terrifying one. ”no bark and all bite” is the PERFECT description; the bite is so unexpected and terrifying precisely because there’s no bark to hint at it. he hides his fangs so well that you forget he even has them.

gojo can be absolutely terrifying too, but like you said — that’s to be expected. everyone knows satoru has fangs. he never bothers to hide them. he’s always smiling, smiling, smiling — and when that smile drops you know you fucked up.

but suguru? suguru is so good at hiding his anger that you miss it if you aren’t careful. i’ve always thought that his smile is the key to really understanding him, and i think that in this case it’s his smile that reveals his anger. you can push him and push him and then suddenly his smile has no warmth to it left, and if you push after that then the fangs peek out. but his smile is so cold and such a glaring warning that barely anyone crosses that line, so it really is like walking into the unknown.

and anon!! ”a feral, burning desire to keep people close to his heart safe” is such a good way of putting it. the desire itself is so loving but he is just so devoted that it might as well be a wildfire. i think it eats him alive. i think that he’d rather set himself on fire than fail to keep you safe. genuinely.

anyway in conclusion i think suguru is the scarier one by far LMAO imagine pushing his buttons all day and then looking up and hes just :)…….. i would fall to my knees. i would fold immediately.

here comes a list of the different levels of friends that you can be with barton, because i said that i would explain what being a ' level 2 friend ' to him would mean and i fully intend to keep that promise! so here we gooo.

level 1 friends: you're the type of friend to barton that he would wave to whenever he sees you. he would also complain about his work with you, but NEVER about his second 'business.' ( his organ trafficking && dollmaking. ) and in turn, he would let you complain about your work to him as well, or anything that might be bothering you. barton isn't really serious about your relationship emotionally, but he will encourage you and praise you for accomplishments / achievements. you two also may share a few interests, which barton enjoys talking with you about.

level 2 friends: you're the type of friend to barton that he is now moderately emotionally invested in. barton will DEFINITELY share his number with you at this stage, so expect him to call you if he needs something, or even if he just wants to talk with you. he also trusts you to a medium level and will help you reach your goals without ever being asked for it. barton does subconsciously have the expectation that you are willing to do the same for him, however, which is really neither a good thing nor a bad thing. you two go beyond just having similar interests... you share certain values with him and/or ideals, and because of that, barton sees you as someone he can depend upon. he would also save you in an emergency situation, BUT i can not say for sure that he will be willing to die for you.

level 3 friends: barton is now FULLY emotionally invested in you, so don't expect to be getting rid of him anytime soon! because you're stuck with him now, MUAHAHAH. barton will do things like raising a toast to you just because you're friends and will reach out to you himself whenever he sees that you're struggling with something. barton also lets you take a glimpse at what's really going on in his head sometimes, and in return, he'll be there for you as well whenever you need him. at this stage, literally, all you need to do is be around barton to make him smile. expect him to feel safe enough to be as silly as he wants around you and do things like give you unprompted hugs + allow you to cuddle with him. barton trusts you with his life, and he would put himself at risk of dying to protect you. so, yes, he would be willing to die for you.
