Akoya Finds His Place

Creator: @animetrashfire Recipient: @mostlikelytofangirl Title: Akoya Finds His Place Characters/Pairings:Gero Akoya, Ibushi Arima, Kusatsu Kinshiro, Kinugawa Atsushi (cameo), Megawa Rui (cameo) Summary (optional): an exploration of Akoya’s early days in the student council, and the beginning of his friendship with Arima Comment: I scrapped like four ideas for this fic, but this one worked. Hope you like it!

It was a beautiful morning in the student council room of Binan High. Akoya sat at a desk, going through paperwork and contemplating the way the sunlight shafted into the room. There was a question lingering in his mind, and though he was loath to disturb the stillness of the morning, he knew he had to ask. “Arima?”

“Yes, G- Akoya?” Arima answered, glancing up from the tea he was preparing, a question in his eyes.

Akoya had only been in the student council for a few weeks, but he appreciated how conscientious Arima was about using his given name instead of his family name. Given that care, he felt sure that his question would at least be graciously received, so he continued on, “Do you… ever get the sense that there’s something bothering President? Beyond the general student populace and problems of course. Something specific?” He kept his gaze focused on the papers at hand, aware that he looked utterly unconcerned, a style he had perfected over the years.

“Ah, I’m not really sure.” Arima smiled pleasantly, but Akoya got the sense that there was something he wasn’t yet willing to share. “In any case,” Arima went on, carefully steeping the tea leaves, “He’ll be here soon, and it would be terribly awkward if he were to catch us talking about him.”

“Of course. Thank you, Arima.” Akoya continued filing papers. Sure enough, a few moments later, President Kusatsu entered the room, greeting them both formally. He took the cup of tea Arima offered him, then sat down at his own desk to start on his duties. Akoya considered him out of the corner of his eye, trying to place a name to the sense of disorder President gave off, but he couldn’t quite do so. Well, it had only been a few weeks. With time, perhaps…

Akoya had adjusted quickly to his role in the student council, deeply appreciative of the power and prestige that came with being a member, along with the beautiful white uniforms they wore. Kusatsu and Arima were hard working, and Akoya had been learning much from them about what it took to keep the school running smoothly. As the weeks passed, he had also learned that Arima had an unfailing devotion to the president that seemed to stem from nowhere, and that President Kusatsu had some particular issue with the lackabouts who occupied the old ‘Earth Defense Club’ room.

Akoya wasn’t particularly fond of them either, he reflected as he prepared yet another notice for them about official recognition of their ‘club’. They needed at least one more member, an advisor, and a purpose if they wanted to continue to use the room that they hung out in. Personally, he wouldn’t be upset to see them go. That Yufuin was admittedly beautiful enough, but he was always lazing about, and while Kinugawa seemed nice enough, he enabled the lout’s shameless behaviour. Naruko was alright, but he was constantly with Zaou, the one person at Binan High who could really get under Akoya’s skin. Together, the four of them were a purposeless mess.

“Akoya, that’s a rather unappealing scowl you have on your face.”

At Arima’s comment, Akoya relaxed his face, tossing his hair as he said, “I’m sure I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Arima chuckled but said nothing more. A few minutes later, Akoya finished up his duties for the day and announced to the president that he would like to go check up on the various clubs. “Of course,” Kusatsu said. “Take Arima with you, and make sure you deliver those forms to the groups we still need registrationfrom.”

Dutifully, Akoya stacked up the papers and exited the room close behind Arima. Their first stop was the old ‘Earth Defense Club’ room, where they knocked politely on the door. Kinugawa answered, pushing up his glasses as Akoya extended the form. “You need to register your club,” he said haughtily, twirling his hair around his finger. “Or you won’t be able to use this room anymore.”

“Right, thank you,” Kinugawa answered distractedly, “Kin’s always been picky about propriety.” Then he shut the door in their faces.

Akoya blinked in surprise. “Arima, did you hear what he called President?” But as he turned to the other boy, he was surprised to find him already halfway down the stairs. Avoiding the issue for sure…

Akoya caught up to him, and they chatted lightly as they made their way around to the various groups, handing forms off to the manga club (a questionable venture, Arima said) and the calligraphy club (a shoo-in for President’s approval). Akoya shot him a sideways glance at that comment, determining that today seemed as good a chance as any to try and get some more information out of Arima.

Akoya didn’t think he could call Arima and Kusatsu his friends, but he was spending every day with them, and well, he simply liked to know everything about everyone around him. You never knew when something might be useful.

All was well until they approached the baseball fields. The baseball team manager, a first year, almost ran them down in his hurry to bring the bats to the team. Akoya huffed. As they drew nearer, the boys on the team began calling out obnoxiously, asking them if they would play, or if they were too afraid to get their bright white uniforms dirty. Arima sighed, just barely, but it was still a reaction.

Akoya found himself fuming. “Who do they think they are, insulting the student council like that?”

Arima shrugged, a genial expression on his face, “I don’t really know.”

Akoya, still painfully aware of the jeers of the baseball team, squared his shoulders. “Well, I don’t suppose we have to stand here and let them, do we?”

He strode over to the edge of the field, standing with one hand on his hip as he raised his voice in reply, “We don’t have any interest in your sport, we just came to see how everything is going. We’re so pleased that you registered your club in a timely fashion, it really was lovely of you.” Akoya’s voice dripped with a sickening sweetness, and the hollers from the baseball team quieted as he continued, “I do hope you have everything you need. It would be such a shame to see any poor behaviour hindering your club activities.” One or two of the first years opened their mouths to retort, but their upperclassmen elbowed them in the sides, noting the fire in Akoya’s eyes.

It was the manager who spoke, “Oh, no, Gero, we have everything we need, thank you.”

Sniggers broke out as the manager used his name, and Akoya breathed deep. “It’s Megawa, isn’t it?” He flashed a radiant smile as the first year quailed.

“Yes, sir.”

“Please, do call me Akoya. I hope all goes well with your team.”

Megawa gulped, but a timid smile crossed his lips as he said, “Thank you, A-Akoya.”

Akoya tossed his hair as he turned to leave, saying to Arima, “Alright, let’s go see about the swim club.”

From behind them, a dull murmur swept up from the baseball club. Snickers and the sounds of croaking, and then retching, began to sound from behind them. Akoya gritted his teeth and came to a halt.

Arima walked a few paces, then glanced back when he realised Akoya wasn’t with him any longer. “Is something the matter?”

Akoya forced a grin, “Oh, it’s nothing.” His voice was slightly strained, and Arima tilted his head as he considered the boy in front of him, shoulders just slightly raised, fists clenched.

“Nothing, hmm?” A dark shadow passed behind Arima’s eyes and he advanced on the baseball team. A hush settled over them as he came to a stop just a few steps from them, glaring down at them. He really was quite tall, towering over most of the team.

“Akoya is a valued member of the student council. He works diligently to ensure that you all have a club to enjoy. I would suggest you treat him with respect.”

Without waiting for a response, Arima turned abruptly and stalked away, catching up to Akoya quickly. Akoya fell into step next to him, and they continued away from the baseball diamond. Akoya couldn’t remember the last time someone had stood up for him.

“Thank you.”

Arima smiled, and Akoya caught a flash of kindness in his eyes as he answered, “You’re welcome.”

Akoya couldn’t help but toss in a barb, “And here I thought you reserved that kind of loyalty for President.”

Arima chuckled and pushed a hand through his hair, “Do I now? I can’t really say… President is special, but you’re one of us. And you really did put them in their place brilliantly. It was the least I could do to have your back.”

“If I may ask, what is it that’s so special about President?” Akoya chose his words carefully, but he had a sense that Arima would answer him.

“Hmmm…” Arima tilted his head in thought as they neared the swimming pool. “Well, we met when we were children. I thought it was going to be another awful forced playdate while our parents did business, but he and Kinugawa were nothing but kind to me. The way Kusatsu smiled- it was so welcoming, warm like a sunrise. And when we met again, here at Binan, I couldn’t help but remember it. He doesn’t smile like that anymore… and I felt like I could help him, almost like I had to. Whatever President asks of me, I’ll do it.”

Akoya was trying to process this veritable speech from Arima, which was almost more words than he usually said in one day. There was also that confusing bit about Kinugawa. “So you’ve always been friends, then.”

Akoya phrased it as a statement more than a question, and he was surprised when Arima said, “No, he doesn’t remember me actually. But we only met a few times as children, and we hadn’t seen each other in several years before high school.”

“Oh. And Kinugawa… they were friends? I’ve gotten the impression that President doesn’t like him all that much.” Akoya and Arima paused by the fence around the swimming pool, watching the swim club practice.

“I’m not really sure what happened between them, but…. I don’t think it’s easy on President.”

“Ah.” Akoya had a feeling that was as much as he was going to get, but it was already a lot to process. “Thank you for telling me this, Arima.”

Arima turned to continue making their rounds. A few moments later, he replied, “Thank you for listening, Akoya. It’s… nice to have someone to talk to.” His smile turned almost devilish as he asked, “And can I count on you to always have our backs?”

Akoya tossed his hair, “Of course. What do you take me for?”

Arima laughed again and kept walking. Akoya matched his pace, considering the dark green-haired boy at his side. Perhaps, for the first time in a long time, there was a chance that he would actually end up with a friend.

Boueibu and Love Types

(A quick study from re-watching season 1 and looking up on google)

So we know that our beloved series Cute High Earth Defense Club Love is all about love. Battle Lovers, Loveracelets, Heirs of of the Throne of Love, Love Stick, Love Attack, Love Shower, and so on… The show is saturated by the word of affection, which serves to highlight the idea that Love Conquers All. The Happy Ending for good people. That bad comes from the lack of. But why exactly are the main characters of boueibu who they are? I’ve done a bit of research and did my best to come to a fair and logical conclusion as to why each character has their own important role in the world of love.

Naturally, we can associate Ryuu to EROS. The sexual and romantic kind of love. Easy guess from the amount of instances he’s all about dating girls, and how girls are life.

Then there’s Akoya who clearly represents the PHILAUTIA love. A love for oneself and self care. Ego is his thing and his beauty? Self care all around. In a snap of a finger, as represented in the life of Akoya in the seifukubu manga, a personal hairdresser tends to his split ends. Wombat-san represents AGAPE. Love for humanity unconditionally. He came over from space to give earth love and to protect it from Caerulas Adamas and the CIDE2 series. He made sure the Battle Lovers had cool outfits and catchphrase. U go wombatto!

Yumoto is a LUDUS kind of love. One that is mostly for fun and excitement. He sees every problem as something normal and fun to fight. Always excited to jump in battles, to be a battle lover, and cuddles. When it’s no fun, he zones out and cares less of the situation. STORGE love would be for Atsushi. Storge is of friendship and family. Even though Kinshiro stopped speaking to him since the curry incident, he still kept his heart open for him. Tries to keep the boueibu team together when there’s a rough patch (like s2’s episode of Io vs Ryuu in who’s coolest) En, surprisingly, represents PHILIA love, which concerns team love, group love. He’s the one who initiated the High earth defense club, accepted the new members. He willingly (or not) suggest group activities such as the Danran Beach episode, the Bidanshi Day prep so that Ryuu wins in popularity against Akoya, and shouts “Nandateee” in the name of the group despite knowing how cheesy that line is and so on. He’s a real listless MVP! As for Io, he represents the PRAGMA of love. One that endures, one that stays, who is loyal. At first, I thought of how “money never betrays”, but looking at it more deeply, no matter what happens, he remains stubborn on a subject (like who used his toothbrush). Even more is that despite the one time he left the club to join the student council as accountant… he came back. And as the most logical of the group, he’s the one who keeps the group safe by halting silliness. Io’s the real boomerang. Kinshiro is the PUPPY kind of love. The embodiment of a sweet, pure, innocent childhood crush (towards Atsushi) which never left his heart. Aka the entire plot of Season 1. And even in S2, his love and appreciation for Atsushi is so lovable and pure that our hearts melt. For Ibushi, I figured he is the ALTRUISTIC love. It may not show much in the anime series, but in the Seifukubu manga, Ibushi’s chapter is about how he cares for the happiness of Kinshiro, his smile and his well being. He has no evil intentions as member of Team Comquest or as much of a motivation in being part of the Student Council other than because Kin-chan is there. Ibushi encourages him to pursuit his “vengeance” towards curry and Atsushi if it’s to make him happy. He was ready to punch the Press Society’s president for making fun, in principle, of Kinsmshiro’s back story (but got 1up’d by Gero) . Gora-san is the representation of PARENTAL love. He is the “responsible adult” of the Kurotama bath house, takes care of a sick brother, makes the bentos, scolds Yumoto to get better friends (referring to the “time stops now” monster of s2e1), how he runs into danger just to save Yumoto. How he did not pursue education since he was too busy saving Earth, saving Yumoto. The true mom-dad character of the series. And lastly, the Twins Akihiko and Haruhiko represents MANIA love. The obsessive, jealous, and intense infatuation towards Gora, their TV idol from CIDE1 with Gorar-san. How they wanted to be idolized by the entire galaxy (to reach Gorar). How obsessed they are to destroy the Battle Lovers (mostly Yumoto) for the honor of “keeping” Gora-san.

So here’s my take on the love representation in boueibu through each major characters according to the facts in the series (or at least as close as I can remember). Thank you for taking the time in reading this. I had been thinking if this ever since the firsts episodes came out. Feel free to share your thoughts in the representations. Pink

This is for @mindsebbandflow‘s new giveaway, and let me tell you I wasn’t sure how to express my love for my favorite character. Although by now, I’m very sure that my followers can guess which boueibu character is my favorite.

Ryuu has been my favorite ever since I first watched the show, and even before. He stood out to me in all the promotional material as well. By now it was just his pinkness or.. The adorable factor that caused it, although... What's not to love?

I’ve taken this as an excuse to rant about my favorite character so prepare yourself for a long post dedicated to Ryuu Zaou and my love for him.

Also included: - Headcanons - Speculations - Some pics - AU ideas (sponsored by me and @fillyrika) - LOTS of ranting, I mean it when I say this turned out long.

Ryuu is adorable, there is no denying it.

His Looks His hair is bright and looks so soft, and he's got big, bright, brown eyes that really go well with all that pink. I have a bias for him with his hair down, but he's had his hair plenty of ways which I all enjoyed, look at these!

I'm sure there's probably some I missed. I love those two from the posters too. Look at how bright they are. And Ryuu really knows how to accessorize. I like that he has earrings, and wears headbands, plus the fedora looked really nice on him too.

His outfits from what we seen range from stylish (season 1 ep 7, staff said they picked the outfit from a fashion magazine) to cozy. (season 2 ep 8, sugary ioryuu poster)

I think he looks a lot younger with his hair down, which is probably why he wears it up. Can't be a womanizer if you look like a kid after all.

Personality Enough about his looks now. On to his personality. Ryuu is playful and fun. Reckless, bold, impatient, loud, charismatic, cheery and sweet. He often acts without thinking, and always speaks his mind. Those don't always go well together, and it led to him hurting Yumoto's feelings in season 2. It was never addressed, mainly because Yumoto himself didn't address it.

Still personality but some speculation and headcanons join in now ^^

But there's also some things Ryuu doesn't say. Those things are noticed through his actions. Ryuu has a strong, needy desire to be liked. Not just popular, but liked. It's where his people pleasing tendencies come from. That combined with how he dates around, leads me to think that Ryuu wants to feel wanted.

Did I mention that I LOVE how one of the first thing Io noticed about Ryuu, was that Ryuu is a huge people pleaser and does anything to be liked?! Because my feels!!

And judging by how Ryuu reacted how Io was leaving the defense club in season 1 episode 6, I think kiddo has abandonment issues.

The source of it? Well in novel 1 we find out that Ryuu is raised by his grandma and not his parents. This leads me to believe that

Considering that Ryuu lives with his grandma and not with his parents, I headcanon that his parents left him with her, not when he was a baby, but when he was old enough to understand that his parents left and didn't come back for him. But he wouldn't be old enough to be able to understand that it was his parents' error. He'd think they left because they didn't like him. Because they didn't want him.

So from then on Ryuu started to do everything he could do, to get people to like him. And when he discovered dating.... Well Ryuu is a softy. He likes romance, those trival realistic moments, like sharing coffee with a girl, or when your shoulders brush when the train shakes. Dating lots of girls makes Ryuu feel like he's wanted.

Plus he's a fluffy romance lover!

THEY GROW UP SO FAST!!!

Another thing that's amazing about Ryuu is that deep down he doesn't always feel like he's amazing. That's what we found out in season 2 episode 6.

"I'm an idiot who only thinks of getting with girls." -Ryuu Zaou s2e6

Me and Io shared that appalled tone because D: !! Kiddo no! You're amazing and I love you. And of course I ADORED THE SUBTLE LAYER OF WONDERFUL ANGST!!!

There's more than meets the eye with Ryuu. He's not the smartest and he knows it. But he's a social butterfly and good with reading people. I was honestly surprised by his good analysis on the Beppu twins. So was Io for that matter.

I think that Ryuu is a very good liar/actor, because he knows what people want to hear. We've seen him do it with Wombat in season 1 episode 11, making up the word 'lovetivity' and saying just the right things to get Wombat to agree with him.

Another thing we learn about Ryuu in season 2 is that he can draw. At least chibis XD and in the otome game, when we see Ryuu's room there's this framed picture of a man in fashionable clothes. Now I doubt that Ryuu would frame a magazine clipping. So... What if he designed that himself?

Headcanon: Ryuu goes to study fashion design in Tokyo. Not only that but he ends up going to the same college as Akoya where they end up being roommates.

I can also picture Ryuu becoming a fashion designer when he's older.

I headcanon that Ryuu's grandma owns a bakery, and she helped Ryuu make those chocolates for Io.

Some talk of the side material. Well I love Ryuu in the otome game. It gave us lots of gems like that picture of Ryuu's room. This adorable pj pic

Thanks to @vashtijoy for giving me that keychain I still treasure it! That game also gave us that wonderful ioryuu route. I still love reading @intra-fiducia‘s translations of that game, and the ioryuu friend end. Plus there is that wonderful post about how ioryuu are in the game.

I didn't actively follow the conquest club's manga, but I enjoyed that it showed that Ryuu being good at those machine grabby game things, to win stuffed toys. He must have had lots of practice thanks to winning toys for his dates.

The novels are a treasure, not just for how they portray the characters but also because of the more serious plot. I already talked about the first novel so I won't do it again. The second and third novel aren't translated though, but a bit from one of the first chapters makes me think that Ryuu may be the result of an unplanned teen pregnancy.

Someone told me about how shippy the third novel is, and I can't wait to find out more about that!

There's that comic thing, which I adored, mostly because of my ultimate brotp! Pink Bros! I love the comic in which the pinks work out together, and how Akoya worried about telling Ryuu he was leaving. Those to became close friends and I love it! I love how Akoya grew to care about Ryuu and- Akoya is good at reading people too! I bet he understood that Ryuu has abandonment issues and worried about telling Ryuu that he was leaving.

And their friendship was still in a fragile new place for him too.

Now I LOVE the Boueibu manga, it's still going, but that ioryuu chapter made that thing priceless! How ioryuu have their first real fight in it! Io worrying about Ryuu getting a cold and putting a blanket over him. And that face kiddo makes when Io says "Stay at my side forever!" Amazing! Amazing! Amazing!

It's no secret that I enjoyed the boueibu stage play. Aramaki portrayed Ryuu so well. Captured his fun spirit and his cuteness, and looked great while doing it. Aramaki spoke like Ryuu, walked like Ryuu and sang like Ryuu. It's scary! He even moved like Ryuu! The play is filled with so many wonderful moments as well!

Relationships with others

IORYUU = LIFE

I'm not joking, this ship brings me so much joy. The way they look at each other, how they sound different when talking to each other. How they'd blindly defend the other against their peers. Io's protectiveness is so great! And that they're opposites but admire each other's differences. They're so proud of each other! I'll say it again I love protective Io.

There's so many wonderful ioryuu moments, all of episodes 6, both in season 1 and 2. Those posters, their duets. God I love Sync a Think!

I've made many separate posts about ioryuu so I'll leave it at this for now.

There's akoryuu/pink bros. My ultimate brotp. In my recent fanfic Pink Blood, I made them discover that they're actually related in canon universe. All because Akoya's father had a one night stand with Ryuu's mom. I've loved this BROTP since I started planning my fanfic In the Name of Love, and have been in love with it ever since.

They're also related in several of the AUs I created with @fillyrika. Such as: - Mermaid AU - Fairy AU - Magic School AU - DC Villains AU - CPS AU

And they have a sibling like bond in - Brothel AU - Slave AU - Monster AU

Then there's also Enryuu, season 2 give me a thing that I had kinds hoped for but didn't expect to fall in love with. I kind low-key shipped enryuu before, because the smut would be steamy. (get it Fire + water) But now it's a strong brotp as well. There's several GREAT fanfics for this brotp as well. Like the fic where En stop Ryuu from being bullied, and the one where enryuu wear matching skirts ^^

I have lots of Ryuu merchandise too, I'll share a pic of it later ^^

And I've reached the point were I call Ryuu my son so much, that my mom started calling him her grandson.

Now this post turned out very long, so I wonder if you're still reading this. Sorry about this, I feel like I still have things to say, but I can't think of more right now. At the very least I got the chance to share some of my thoughts on kiddo.

OKAY LET ME TALK ABOUT PERHAPS THE MOST BRILLIANT OPENING SPEECH OF A SERIES PILOT I HAVE SEEN IN A LONG WHILE! Because I think too much and I have a lot of feelings and I want to take as many other people as I can on this ride with me~

*ahem*

So, if you all would kindly be patient with me, I am going to draw your attention yet again to S1E1 of Boueibu, more particularly En's beautiful speech about chikuwabu and oden. Yes, it introduces the concept that the monster of the week is going to be the Chikuwabu Monster who doesn't quite see his own importance in the world and it may seem at first to be a boring lecture about something most people don't care about, but... it has a FAR greater significance than just setting up the theme for a single episode or exposing En for the thoughtful rambler that he is. In fact, it tells us exactly what we should have expected from the show from square one and it does so in such a way that we couldn't have fully noticed until rewatching the season from start to finish. (At least, that's how it seems to me, in any case. It took me until the fourth or fifth time watching it to realize.)

I'm placing this analysis under a cut because it is loooooooooooong and I used a lot of screenshots, so fair warning if you decide to read it. ^^

First, before I really get into breaking this down, let's start with the highlights of En's speech. Not even a minute in and already it starts out with a direct callout.

I mean, come on now… that’s a direct reference to the Caerula Adamas using the Chikuwabu Monster as part of their Earth Conquest plans.

Later, when the Student Council walks by them as they're leaving…

Then, Yumoto and Wombat run by them.

Yikes, so this is where I start breaking it down. *takes a deep breath*

If the Student Council is the popular "golden trio" of oden (a comparison which shows En has great respect for them), then Atsushi is the konjac.

Konjac is a root and, on its own, it doesn't taste like very much, so it's valued more for its texture than its flavor, but when soaked in oden it absorbs the broth all the way through it and becomes genuinely delicious. Typically, it comes in a gelatin form like a sort of tough, savory jelly... but it can also be made into pleasantly chewy noodles. En describes konjac as being "flexible" and "broad-minded" most likely for these reasons.

Atsushi absorbs a lot of what others throw at him and you could definitely say he's broad-minded enough to approach a situation from different angles. I mean, he is able to easily follow En's logic and train of thought even when it seems like something of a mystery to others. He is flexible in a way that he will bend for others in order to avoid a confrontation because he feels like that is respecting their wishes. And as for not having a very desirable independent flavor, even Atsushi has said that there's nothing special about himself and he's completely average in every way (or at least he implies it). And if En sees Atsushi as the konjac, his defense of it is quite telling of how he views Atsushi.

In this scene, Atsushi remarks that there is no konjac in the Student Council. This seems to imply something about how there is a broad-mindedness missing from the Student Council and this, as we find out, is largely in part because of the misunderstanding between Atsushi and Kinshirou that kickstarted the events of the season. That misunderstanding is what caused Kinshirou to close himself off the way he has and is likely one of the reasons he runs the Student Council so strictly, i.e. because of Atsushi's absence. Atsushi seems to, at the very least, be contemplating this.

As for Yumoto... he really is the pot, considering that’s what brings all of the ingredients together and makes them into something more than they are individually. And without the pot, you can't make oden. FORESHADOWING ANYONE???

The end of the episode proves this.

In other words, the Student Council…

The comparison here is that they are popular. Those three ingredients are the most common in oden and, to some people, considered essential… and the Student Council does happen to be quite popular at the school for one reason or another. But if I had to guess (just for my own amusement) which of the Student Council is which of the "golden trio", I might say that Kinshirou is the mochi-stuffed tofu, Akoya is the egg, and Ibushi is the daikon radish.

In dishes where a hard- or soft-boiled egg is thrown into it like this, it’s generally used as "decoration" (like a topper) to make the dish more colorful or to give it that little extra "pow" of flavor, so that's what makes me think it fits Akoya even if it's not the most exotic ingredient in the bowl. Also, the hard-boiled egg is left to cook in the oden broth for so long that it eventually changes color, so if you wanted to look into that, you could say it’s like how Akoya developed his particular ego/idea of beauty in response to how he was bullied. It seeped into him to the point where he started reflecting it.

The use of the daikon radish also being described as "contributing to the diversity that is oden by creating a savory flavor" fits Ibushi because, honestly, he's really what's keeping Kinshirou and Akoya from ripping each other apart most of the time. He's the balance in their dynamics. One article I read described daikon radish as "far milder and softer than radishes found in the West, daikon does a wonderful job of soaking up the oden broth, and is actually a lot lighter than it looks." Ibushi really isn't quite what his appearance makes him seem either. And for someone who takes a lot of hits from everyone else around him (absorbing them much like Atsushi does), it's remarkable how pleasant he seems. Most of the time, anyway. He’s got a lot of heart to give despite being so guarded.

And also, I found it really funny that mochi-stuffed tofu is basically just a pouch of deep-fried tofu stuffed with a mochi rice cake. I was laughing at that because, in the seifukubu manga, Ibushi joked that Kinshirou found Zundar while buying mochi because of the gag that he looks like zunda mochi. So, if Kinshirou is the tofu "pouch" that the mochi gets stuffed in, it's like when he sticks Zundar in his pocket. But jokes aside, it’s also fitting that the tofu absorbs the broth like how Kinshirou took to heart what happened with Atsushi when they were kids… and let that affect him so thoroughly.

This is Io...

Burdock root is crispy and it has a sweet and earthy, pungent flavor. It also has health benefits from being high in dietary fiber and having an antioxidant effect. At first glance, it looks unappetizing "like a really long, dirty twig" until it is peeled and fried in tempura batter. Its misleading appearance is what makes it "low-profile" and the Chikuwabu Monster even says it has a "dubious status".

Io is a rather dubious character who seems cold until you get to know him and he starts to open up. He’s also arguably "low-profile" because he doesn’t care enough not to be. Plus, the only connections he is concerned about making are business-related and I’m sure it’s in his best interests not to be involved in any kind of scandals either. If it doesn’t help him advance in the business world, he doesn’t want it. Until he makes friends who genuinely care about him, that is, and he opens up enough to show that he has a huge soft spot for them.

Ryuu is the thick-fried tofu...

As a thriving socialite, he is definitely more "amiable" than "low-profile" and I'd hesitate to call him "non-conforming" because of the implications that he cares a lot about what other people think of him. So, the tofu seems to fit him best there just from that description alone.

According to this article, it seems like the thick-fried tofu was described as "amiable" because "oden broth simply loves tofu", which I would say is because it's easy for tofu to absorb the broth and take in the flavors. A common complaint about tofu is that it is too bland without any other added flavors, so it's something that is usually fried and drenched/cooked in some kind of sauce or broth to make it more appetizing.

Ryuu is a people-pleaser and, much like tofu, "absorbs" different flavors (so to speak) in order to make himself more likeable.

En, on the other hand, is the cabbage rolls...

One article/recipe I found describes cabbage rolls as having a long history and becoming "one almost universal dish" because you can basically put anything you want in them, which is what makes them "non-conforming", much like En because he is also neutral and seemingly too lazy to care enough to meet other people’s expectations of him. He doesn’t even wear his uniform properly, which Kinshirou calls him out for in the seifukubu manga and shows us that En can go from "delicious" to "mouthwatering" with that little bit of extra effort… much like what happens to cabbage rolls when they are cooked in the soup and absorb the flavors of the broth. [x]

Chikuwabu represents, like En said at the beginning of his speech, all of the people who don't really know why they exist or what their purpose in life is and who feel like they don't fit in anywhere because they don't have anything "special" to offer. And here, Yumoto is saying that these people are important, too.

The same thing that is said for tofu is usually said for chikuwabu, by the way: "People tend to either love these things or be completely indifferent to them because they can sometimes be accused of being a bit bland." [x] That is exactly what happens to Chiku. Most people treat him very indifferently without even acknowledging his existence because he’s not "special" enough to be noticed.

Ryuu says he likes chikuwabu and isn’t it a little sad that he can relate? After all, he doesn’t really think very highly of himself despite his "I am awesome" attitude.

It's also interesting to me that, in the beginning of the episode, En was talking about chikuwabu being an "unknown lifeform" having no real purpose and not contributing anything... and how it must be depressing to exist like that. His commentary almost sounded a little self-depreciating to me, so I feel like he kind of sympathizes a bit as well, especially since he says this has been on his mind for a while. (Season 2 showed us that he isn’t sure what he wants to do with his life because he doesn’t really have much of a plan.) But when Atsushi says that there are people who actually like chikuwabu, En seems surprised and teasingly asks if Atsushi is one of those people. So, if Atsushi picked up on that, then his interjection seems like it was meant as a reassurance.

Then, at the end of the episode right after Ryuu says he likes chikuwabu (and looks around to see if anyone agrees), En tells the Chikuwabu Monster, "Yeah. Some people have strange tastes. Good things will come your way someday."

On the one hand, I’m looking at Wario (the Chopsticks Monster) befriending Chiku by the time the finale rolls around and giggling at that because Wario does arguably have strange tastes. But on the other hand, I think it’s endearing that En says this as though he’s realizing that, despite what a contented lazy bum he is, Atsushi is still his best friend. (He even asks Atsushi why he hangs out with him in S1E9 like he still doesn’t quite get it.) The same could be said for Io and Ryuu being so opposite and yet coming together as best friends anyway.

But anyway, I digress. My point is that each of these foods represents one of the characters (with the exception of the chikuwabu, which represents everyone for those doubts and insecurities that every character arguably has… even though I didn’t explain more than En and Ryuu of the main eight in the context of this episode) and then Yumoto wraps it up by saying…

And this is exactly what happens throughout the course of the show. All eight of these boys have to come together by the end of the finale, Yumoto being the catalyst for the change that will unite them as the More Better Battle Lovers, in order to save the Earth. It may have happened over curry, but you have to admit they make a beautiful oden together. Straight out of the gate, this show foreshadowed the entire season’s plot right from episode 1 and it’s all here in these highlighted moments.

*collapses and gasps for air*

Of course, I’m sure if you looked more closely at food symbolism or something, someone could come up with different explanations for which character is represented by which food in that speech. But that’s less important to my point about the foreshadowing and I mostly wanted to go with the episode's context, so I just kind of gently scraped the surface just to see if I could challenge myself a little bit to piece it together. It’s a layered metaphor… or at least this is just what I walked away from the episode with. As always, like everything about this show, it’s open to interpretation and this one happens to be mine, so I hope anyone who read this far enjoyed it. ^^

i am trying to make it as short as possible, because way more often than not, i noticed that people don't bother reading everything carefully. and i'd rather not get annoyed.

the type.

this is a boy x boy roleplay, preferably advanced literate, but anywhere between it and semi lit is fine. the only thing i am asking for is at least 7 lines. for reference, the most that i ever wrote per reply reached to 10 messages (as amino has the character limit). also keep in mind that these kind of replies may take hours to write, so patience is key with me. if you are a naturally inpatient person, than i am not suitable for you. also, my schedule is packed, so i might not be able to reply for up to a whole week on bad days. bare with me and i'll do the same.

i am not picky when it comes to capitalization, but please try to have an at least average grammar and punctuation. nobody's perfect, english may not be your first language or even your second language, but please, at least know the difference between "your" and "you're" and where to but your commas, because i saw people who " literally typed like this ,and it annoyed me greatly .it is a pet peeve of mine ."

i would prefer the roleplay to be longterm. to not rush the plot too much. personally, i love to describe my character(s)' emotions.

i prefer to talk with the other person about the plot, so we can make sure that we will both like it. a list is welcomed if we are short on ideas.

my personal favorites are the fantasy aus, (as long as they are not the oh so generic ones), but a good old slice of life is also fine. i am also very open to new ideas.

the plots that i won't do are highschool plots, hybrid plots, little space, incest, pedophilia and noncon. they are either wrong, or i simply dislike them. also, i will not put through mentions of eating disorders or self harm. i do not need to explain why. sorry if i sound too harsh or mean.

i have a few plots in mind that, if you are interested, you can look through. keep in mind, that they are not a "must do". they are just here, in case we both are uninspired and/or indecisive and need something quickly.

"we love each other, but we're trapped" echos - leave your lover

muse a and muse b were there for each other through anything, ever since they were kids. they had an indescribable bond. muse a dreamed that they will live together, happily ever after, but dreams don't always come true. muse b has found another, one that muse a ironically set him up with, not expecting the relationship to flourish this much. it seamed as if muse b's relationship was going to be stable, which made muse a's heart ache every time he glanced at their direction. to cope, muse a also started to date - of course, as muse b helped him, just the way muse a did once. muse a eventually found someone nice, sweet and kind. in other circumstances, he would have fallen in love. but his heart ached for someone else. as if it couldn't get more confusing for both of them, muse a and b often ended up in each other's arms, swearing to forget about it, for the sake of their lovers. and so, "one time only" was repeated again, and again, and again. by the end of the night, as they relaxed in each other's hold, the very same sentence was heavy onto muse a's tongue - "we should leave our lovers and be with one another", knowing muse b would never leave their lover. only time will tell if muse a will work his courage, or if muse b will accept it.

variations:

- muse a writes a song to play to muse b, and so, confessing.

- muse b eventually gets engaged, only making things more complicated.

- muse b's lover breaks up with them/cheats on them, making muse b shut down any possible romantic relationships for a while, including the ones he had with muse a.

"little red string" soulmate au.

each person is born with a soulmate, that you will be able to find ever since you are 5. but, due to the inconvenience that it is manifested with, controversies rose every time. the arguments were so intense, that the world collectively resorted to keep the topic in silence.

how is this little bond so troubled? simple. at 5, one, and only one of the two will be able to see a thin, red string, ever so delicately tied around their left pinky finger, leading up to their soulmate. it never gets tangled, it never gets broken, it never gets untied. no matter what you do to it. the only was in which the second person can see the string is by a kiss.

muse a was born in a fortunate, soulmate family. and, the luck seamed to be on their side, as their son ended up being the one having the string. his parents asked him on his birthday if he had a little red string now, which the child happily confirmed. muse a was excited to see his soulmate, but nothing could prepare hm to be face to face with muse b, the one who he hated the most in their entire kindergarten. and that hate was oh so mutual.

muse a and muse b continued to be in each other's almost daily life, hatred only growing as they reached their adulthood. muse b was a nonbeliever, skeptical of this whole string of faith. muse a, he didn't want to deal with muse b, but he knew that all of their future relationships won't be fully happy. could they overcome this hatred for the sake of a happy relationship?

"glowing pearl" - pirate + mermaid au.

muse a has been growing up on a ship since he was 8, and running away with one of his elder friends, away from the poverty of their little seaside village life. and so, they embraced the pirate life. muse a was fortunate enough to learn how to read from his mother, and so he helped with the navigation, map reading and negotiations - where violence was not applied.

for the past few months, the rumour of a special kind of oyster, producing natural blue akoya pearls was circling around the market, and the many other ships. they were extremely expensive on land, so the pirates knew they should get their hands on as many as they could, to sell the or to keep them to themselves.

muse b was the son of sea lord. sort of a royal of the merpeople. he was advised by his family to stay away from the surface, as the humans were dangerous - in most of the cases they captured merpeople out if curiosity, or out of desire to steal their different accessories that they decorated their hair, neck, ears, wrists, body with. but muse b didn't care, curiosity won over him, as he swam up.

muse a was looking down at the water when he spotted a person staring right up at him. what truly caught his attention was the much desired pearls, in form of a necklace. but it was such a shame. the mareperson stared up at him with such big, curious eyes. it was truly a shame. such a beautiful face didn't deserve this kind of treatment. will he keep silent, or tell his comrades, which will result in the capture of muse b?

"petal juice" hanahaki au + bts

tw :: mentions of soft gore//death.

'hanahaki, a condition in which an individual coughs flower petals. the flowers range in colors and kind, from simple red rose petals to purple hyacinths. the flowers are growing inside the lungs, on 4 distinct stages. stage one isn't noticable. the plants start to grow inside the lungs, that's when the person starts to cough more and more often. stage two, the person begins to cough small petals. the said person runs out of breath quicker. stage two is one of the lengthiest stages, along with stage three. stage three consists of coughing larger petals, and eventually small blooms, along with blood. the coughing gets more and more violent, and also more often. those episodes are also longer. it is harder to perform any physical task. one of the lengthiest stages, along with stage two. stage four, the terminal stage, is when the person starts coughing out full flowers, and where the suffocation episodes begin. eventually, it culminates with death, as the petals bloom outside of the person's mouth and nostrils, choking them to death. the cause of this disease is one sided love. the time between the stages may vary from person to person. depending on how often and for how long they are in contact with the person they love. the disease can be surgically removed, but with the flowers, all the positive feelings regarding the once loved person is gone too, leaving hatred behind. the natural cure is if the love is returned. if, by any chance, the love is fake and the sick person finds out before they cough two full flowers (usually a year after love is returned, to signify the curing) the disease will relapse, causing in their death in less than a day.' muse a shut his laptop as soon as he finished reading, looking down at the tiny petal in his hand.

fast forward a few years, at the beginning of stage three, muse a cursed himself for ever loving his band mate, muse b. he knew that confessing wasn't an option, being a rising kpop group, only to be openly gay and in love with your team mate in a country as homophobic as korea wasn't an option. but.... all that he could do was wait, wait for something, anything to come. and also keep his illness a secret from the other 6 team mates, including muse b.

where one or both muses can be witches, specialized on different areas (eg. potions, spells, etc). or one can be a simple villager, or a prince from a nearby kingdom.

in which muse a is tied in commercializing a recreational drug, and simply doesn't want to put his love interest muse b, a piercer/tattoo artist/florist/singer at a local club in danger.

catfish au, but a really soft one. in which muse a is a very, well known singer/rapper/dancer and makes a fan account of himself. only to start getting a little too attached to this fanboy.

bonus!! muse b is also an artist. muse a makes a fan account for muse b, and vice versa.

"when we all fall asleep, where do we go?"

muse a has these strange, reoccurring dreams. they simply feel so real. too real. there is nothing too much out of the ordinary, well, if the normal world had a pink sky and blue ground that is. but, the city was the same. the food was the same. people were, if they were there, the same. the city was empty, with only a few people roaming around. this is where muse a met muse b. "are you dreaming too?" "i suppose."

months passed, in the same dream, muse b and muse a continued to meet. "so can we see each other when we are awake?" "are you sure that you're real?" "i am, are you?" "touche..."

but, after a few more weeks, muse b stopped appearing in muse a's dream. he searched for him in the whole city, yet no sign of him, anywhere. muse a hoped that he could meet muse b again, somewhere. but the city when awake was big, too big for him to search his missed friend. will the search become easier? is muse b still thinking about him?
