okay before i get into THAT, you never fail to provide the most beautiful detail to every mundane moment, but if i gushed over every one, this ask would get five part series too

Honest to god i was so certain Takao would've actually left in the end. Like "oh your soulmate's here? guess i'll die" and he just!! goes!! and let's be real in his shoes, i dont blame him. at least he said something. he communicated his feelings and he took a step back because he wanted space.

like yeah reader suffers a bit, but she's got a solid support system. she's got her parents, she's got her friends. have i mentioned i love Abe and Yoshikawa so much?? what would this story be like without them? how would Reader cope without them?? i dare not think.

also you're so good at describing food, i wanted those crepes so much

okay and i must know, what's the soulmate clause in the marriage contract, what was all that about??? it sure sounds like a lot of boring paperwork to me, and a headache to work through. you're so good at weaving subtle worldbuilding in where it matters, but that's the problem, i want the story to be about bullshit soulmate clauses in marriage contracts. what are soulmate laws here, what do they look like

Kita is so good, that's the problem. the progression of their interactions between text and phone call to eventual physical visits was very sweet. If he was an asshole that'd make things easier. and honestly i was Very nervous where it was going because like especially when the wedding got cancelled after reader met her soulmate, i'd lose my mind because you KNOW that got people's tongues wagging.

it's unfortunate that it's not hard to imagine that a lot of people would in fact, find reader insane for not immediately choosing her soulmate in a heartbeat. your neighbors, your co-workers, distant relatives, people on the goddamn street etc

oh my god speaking of, i wasn't kidding when i said i would've fist fight Atsumu in the streets, i could've HOWLED.

Aran is a fuckin blessing because i knew the twins were gonna have Opinions on reader after she rejected Kita. THEY may be protective of Kita, but I'M protective of reader and i'm stronger, i know it. i could beat them. the social expectation surrounding soulmates would be abysmal, can you imagine?? and we only got a little taste of it, when Atsumu just threw his hands up like "He's your soulmate!" as if that was supposed to be the end all be all statement to end an argument. when reader is MARRIED??

oh, you already have a partner? forget them! you met your soulmate! guilt tripped reader for KITA'S choice to remain in contact as if it's her job to manage his feelings. i'd ream Atsumu so hard it'd strip the hair dye from his follicles and he'd have to go back to Onigiri Miya, a brunette again.

thank god reader has supportive loved ones. thank fuckin god. if i got grilled by the general public, or even people in my life why i chose Some Guy and not my Soulmate, i would kill everyone in the room and then myself. SMH

takao could have peaced out and honestly it would have been the expected thing for him to do in this society! so he just took a step back. which i think was hard for him but easier than it could have been, knowing the support system reader has in place. i'm SO glad you love abe and yoshikawa they are also near and dear to my heart,,,love a good friendship!

lskjdflksjdf once i'm done with the fic i may release some of my worldbuilding notes! for the shrine clause (and a clause used by most marriage venues), it's one that allows the person getting married to get out of the contract without any consequences if they meet their soulmate. so they would get their deposit/any money back and not be held responsible for any penalties that might otherwise be described in said contract.

for the form they hand in at the time of marriage, some countries track soulmates and have bureaucratic systems around it. it's almost like a census in some ways. the form is essentially a report about whether either party has met their soulmate and if they are marrying their soulmate. it can be used as a way to stop the marriage if the soulmate desires to do so.

kita is Very Good and that's half of the issue, like you said! and yes, society has a Lot to say about reader's choice - it's very unusual and there's a lot of controversy around people who don't stay with their soulmates (don't even get me started on soulmate divorce).

PLEASE I AM CACKLING honestly atsumu deserves a fist fight for that one! both the twins do in their own way (osamu distracted kita so atsumu could go after reader). reader's been hoping to avoid them because she knew from aran's stories (they've met a few times, mostly over facetime when he was visiting kita) that meeting them probably wouldn't go well. and...on the money with that one.

Aftermath of War

With many ruling figureheads suddenly taken from us by the Mother Plant, the world is left to pick up the pieces. Here is what has been reported so far:

Evergreen Harbor

In a shocking turn of events, heiress Giuliana Maximus willed over the company and ruling position of CEO to her brother in law, Lord Xzav Maximus, and his wife, Dr. Clementia Bongrin-Maximus. The Council of Kings has recognized this decision and will welcome the new king and queen at the next world summit.

Henford-On-Bagley

In a strange and sudden twist, the peaceful farmlands of Henford again find themselves owned by a King. While valiant horse back riders joined the war effort, land owner and home broker Blair Yoshikawa presented his proof of ownership of many prominent farms and properties through the area and declared them his kingdom. He is backed by his fiancé, war hero Arana Hakzar, the former candidate for the Seindu Royal Guard.

While the people of Henford have strangely accepted the proposal, the Council of Kings refuses. Topics of how one becomes King of a new land will be a topic at the next world summit.

Willow Creek

With army captain Aera Braieforma victoriously returning from the Invasion, having dealt the final blow, the kingdom celebrates their new hero. Aera Braieforma, a princess of the Braieforma Alliance, announced that while victory was to be celebrated, the loses were many and the willing participating was very few. She petitioned today to draft citizens into defense courses or military training to boost chances of survival for the next Invasion. Queen Samantha Braieforma struck the motion down immediately.

Oasis Springs

Faltal Industries introduced servo soldiers to the battle to reduce living casualties in Invasions. However, eighty six percent of the autonomic forces were wiped out in battle. It remains to be seen if the servo will be necessary in further military actions.

New Windenburg/New Sixam Empire

With the death of Prince Yan Beerloith, the last level head in the schism of the Empire, Windenburg has succeeded in separating itself into two countries. The council of Kings feels it has no choice but to include the Kings of both territories into its ranks and work out a peaceful solution before any more fighting can break out.

Again, the Council of Kings will discuss how one becomes a King of a new land in the next world summit.

In the New Sixam Empire, King Kolt "Caesar" Seindu V announced a replacement of heirs to the throne. With the Second Queen Aroganta Faltal-Beerloith, twin boys with no trace of the Royal Condition were born, and the movement was made to change previous heirs. The first born boy, Crown Prince Kolt "Crown" Seindu VI, was stripped of his title and duties in favor of his younger brothers, and the First Queen Catalea Seindu-Beerloith was sent to another property of the Crumbling Isle to care for the growing population of children.

Sulani

The Island Divine mourns the death of its highest figurehead, Divine Luca Kani, who was involved in talks of restructuring the cult into a respectable society. Taking control of the Island Divine is the growing radicle member Kiraseindu Megumi, who has declared the Island Divine a ruling power. Previous members of the Divine are beginning to abandon the movement and flee the islands. It is possible that the Island Divine is crumbling and taking the local government structure with it.

Glimmerbrook

The WhiteTree Coven mourns the death of its High Witch, Samara WhiteTree, who passed before her daughter could begin ascension. Former High Witch Rhomari WhiteTree, in an unprecedented move, took back position as a regent until her granddaughter and heiress, High Apprentice Celeste WhiteTree, is ready to begin her training.

The former High Witch has also made a statement that Jewelry Casting, created by Lady Freya Bongrin, is not recognized as a form of magic and witchcraft the WhiteTree practices. Lady Freya Bongrin could not be found for retort.

Brindleton Bay

As the kingdom mourns the death of King Emmett Braieforma-Seindu, Dowager Queen Winter Zilvu-Beerloith-Seindu formerly announced her decision to have her first born son, Crown Prince Ari Seindu, become the King within the year, once the regency is over.

Queen-regent Nifsara La Croy could not be reached for comment.

Seido Female Manager Headcanons

I want a Daiya no A spin-off focusing on the managers. We’ll call it Daiya no Queens (Queens of the Diamond in English officially)

The managers for Act II are also included, and they will be put under a cut for anyone who doesn’t want spoilers (I’m sorry mobile users). I also might end up writing about some of these, so keep an eye out for those if I ever do

One, overall Headcanon (I didn’t know who to put this under):

Sawamura can not for the life of him remember any of the managers names outside of Haruno, so to hide the fact that he can’t remember (despite being told several times by his team mates), he refers to them with nobility titles, such as “My Lady” “Your Highness” and “Princess” (since Takako’s the head manager, she and Rei are refereed to as “My Queen”). This catches on with the others, and soon every girl is called by such names, even the new mangers

Fujiwara Takako

Takako is Biromantic Bisexual, but has more of preference for boys

Because she is considered the prettiest girl in school, she gets lots of confessions, from both boys and girls alike, but she always politely rejects them.

It’s not that she wouldn’t love to be in a relationship (she has a lot of love with no where to go), but taking care of the team is usually her top priority, so she doesn’t have time to (she keeps telling herself it would be much more easier to date a member of the team, but a good majority of potential partners face the same problem as her with the sport being more important to them) (I’ll date you Takako)

She adores cute phone charms. For her 18th birthday, Chris gave her a My Melody charm for her phone and a matching case. She still uses them to this day

All the boys in her year are very protective of her, and ever since her first year it’s not unusual to see some of the boys (both on and off the bench) glaring and chasing off anyone who gets to close (Especially Jun. You might as well prepare to die if Jun catches you so much as breathing in her general direction)

Her best subject is English, and acts as a tutor for those on the team who suck at English and don’t wanna ask Rei for help

She still visits the other managers after graduating. It’s pretty common to see her, Yui, Sachiko and Haruno at a cafe near her school, drinking their coffee (hot cocoa for Haruno) and talking about the shenanigans their teams are up to

Natsukawa Yui:

Yui is Panromantic Asexual with more of a preference for girls (yet I always write her with boys)

She’s known Sachiko since middle school, they attended the same school as Chris and Shirakawa, so their route to school is longer and the have to take the train

One time, during their first year, everyone in her year got curious to see what Yui looked like without her bang covering her eye. Zono volunteered for the job (aka: everyone was too chicken shit to do it and they forced him to), and to this day when someone asks him what she looks like, his only response is “It’s like the physical manifest of what a choir of angels sound like” (Kuramochi did it once as well, and he can confirm Zono is right. Yui’s just getting tired of people pulling her bangs back, standing there for five minutes as their face turns red and then run off)

She’s one of those girls who bring the tall bottles of Bath and Body Works perfume to school. She never uses it during school hours (unless someone stunk up the bathroom), only after school in the girls locker room after a long day of practice. Her favorite scent is Dark Kiss

While it’s not mandatory the managers help out during morning practice during the summer and winter camps, they do anyway. Meaning they get up earlier than the boys, and sometimes they’re not fully awake when they get there. Sawamura had to learn the hard way not to talk to Yui unless your a faculty member until she finished the coffee she brings with her (she brings like, three of those Starbucks frappuccino bottles). She is a demon before she has had her coffee

Her family owns two Doberman's, one with and without docked and cropped ears and tail. They are the sweetest dogs in the world, and love to play with their owners

She is the only manager to not be refereed to by nobility titles. She is instead refereed to as “Heiress” or “Mistress” because Sawamura originally confused her father to being a member of the Yakuza (her family owning two Dobermans did not help in the slightest either)

Umemoto Sachiko:

Sachiko is Aromantic Asexual

Commonly refereed to as the Kuramochi of the managers, Sachiko is very protective of her friends, especially her fellow managers

You dared to hit on Takako? You’re gonna get ambushed by both her and Jun. Made fun of Haruno? Sorry honey, only she’s allowed to do that. Breathed in Yui’s general direction? She’s gonna leave you black and blue

Remember how in the 3rd ODA “Boys Be...” Sachiko joked about her fans ganging up on Nori if he got a crush on her? She wasn’t lying about having fans. Of course there are no where near as many as Takako and Yui have, but a good majority of her fans are usually range from shy and sweet to total sports geek. There is no one who doesn’t fall for Sachiko’s charm (like me)

A total gamer, she loves to play First Person Shooters (she can totally kick Kuramochi’s ass in them), but she has a secret weak spot for games like Animal Crossing and literally any Kirby game

She’s listed at number 3 in the Skillful Singers list in the Seido Baseball Club Secret Rankings ( [x] ) and is secretly referred to as Seido’s Lorelei among both her class and teammates. The choir kids want to steal her from the team

She has a collection of baseball caps she’s collected over the years of teams in both the NPB and the MLB. She has to order her MLB caps online, but it’s money well spent in her opinon

Yoshikawa Haruno:

Haruno is Biromantic Demisexual with no set preference

Because of her clumsy nature, she always carries band-aids with her. Usually cute band-aids with Sanrio characters on them. Furuya secretly adores them and whenever he gets a cut and needs a band-aid, he asks Haruno for one

It’s also not unusual for whenever she does trip and fall and scrapes her knee that all of the members of the First String in her year drop whatever they’re doing and rush over to her to make sure she’s okay. Sawamura and Kanemaru look like overprotective mothers, acting like she’s dying, Toujou and Haruichi go to get the first aid kit while Furuya is standing about a foot away with this aura flaring, not sure what to do (imagine what would happen she actually got seriously injured)

She’s a KPop fan, and her favorite groups are EXO and Pristin (yes I know the series canonly takes place in 2006-2007 leave me alone)

Another sucker for cute things, Haruno’s whole room is practically overflowing with stuffed animals

She’s the youngest of four older brothers who put the babying of the First String First Years to shame. She’s not even allowed to hold a butter knife

Another gamer, Haruno loves to play relaxing and collecting games like Pokemon and Neko Atsume

Kuroki Anna (Tall, long black hair):

Anna is a Lesbian

She has a habit of unintentionally putting small things in her mouth and chewing on them, things like earring backings and sometimes even the earring itself. As a kid, she would sometimes chew all of the shoes of her Barbie dolls

Yet, for some reason, she always swollows gum

She is the only member of the current team to be able to watch horror movies with a straight face (fssh just imagine Ryo and Anna watching horror movies together and booing at it)

There is a current bet going around at who has the best dead eyes, her, Mogami or Okumura (currently, Okumura is winning)

She currently has no interest in dating, but has expressed she would date Haruno if given the opportunity too (honey wait until you meet Wakana)

There is a member of Yakushi in her year with the same family name as her and I am fully convinced they are twins

Oda Akane (Short, blonde hair):

Akane is Demiromantic Demisexual

She’s the chubbiest manager out of the current ones, but it’s okay because there’s just more of her to love. It also contrasts Anna’s body type, which is thin and lanky (they’re just like Popuko and Pipimi)

She and Anna have known each other since childhood. The reason Anna holds no romantic interest in Akane is because she cherishes their friendship more than anything in the world and thinks a relationship would ruin it. Akane on the other hand, has a giant crush on Anna that she does not act upon (think of it like Chinatsu and Akira’s relationship, only more stable and less hostile)

When her bangs are down, the fall very similarly to Sawamura’s. She keeps them tied up because she thinks they get in the way, but doesn’t want to cut them

She has to wear glasses, but usually wears contacts because she hates how they look on her (baby girl show me your glasses)

A gigantic anime fan, she loves Magical Girl and Sports Anime the most

She is both asthmatic, and dyslexic. Probably not a very good combination set for a manager

Super Light Warrior Changéríon: Episodes 1-3 Review

The year is 1996. Toei Co. Ltd., the penny pinching and merchandise driven imaginative studio that graced the world with anime adaptations of Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball and tokusatsu hero franchises like Kamen Rider and Super Sentai, have found themselves paired up with massive entertainment force Sega (yes, the Sonic the Hedgehog guys) to release a brand new superhero show on the world.  The first idea, a planned follow up to the 1995 Keita Amemiya film Mechanical Violator Hakaider (itself a reimagining of the villain from the 70′s Shotaro Ishinomori classic Android Kikaider) falls through.  A new idea suddenly comes about from Toei producet Yoshikawa Susumu and suit manufacturer Rainbow Co. Ltd: Create a hero suit made primarily out of transparent parts. With that in mind, a cast and crew are soon brought on to create one of the weirdest tokusatsu series of the 1990′s.

So here we are and here I am and it’s Changéríon (yes the accents are how it’s officially written, it’s meant to be French, I don’t know why) time. Sorry for that long build up! Just figured it’d be what all the cool kids do. Super Light Warrior Changéríon is a doozy of a series, one that has held a cult following in Japan for 20 years after its abrupt end in December of 1996. The show featured a staff of producers (such as Shinichiro Shirakura), directors (such as Takao Nagaishi)  and writers (namely head writer Toshiki Inoue) who would go on 4 years later to help revive Kamen Rider for the Heisei era, and in general went on to be remembered for its quirky and surreal nature. Even the show’s star, Takashi Hagino, would go on to be in Kamen Rider (in a very different role as infamous serial killer Takeshi Asakura, a.k.a. Kamen Rider Ouja, in 2002′s Kamen Rider Ryuki) I decided to plunge into this series finally now that English fansubs were out, and I’ve been contemplating how to go about this. For the first installment I figure I’m just going to write up my thoughts briefly on the first three episodes of this 39 episodes series, and I may then expand upon that later and switch the format around a bit at any given time, so here goes!! 

A few things to note ahead of time

1. The head writer of this series (and, to my knowledge, the writer of the first four episodes here) is Toshiki Inoue. Inoue is a man known for his love of drama, strange humor, and plots heavily focused on miscommunication. His best known shows include Chojin Sentai Jetman (1991), Kamen Rider Agito (2001), Kamen Rider 555 (2003) some mess called Kamen Rider Kiva (2008) and oh yeah he’s written for anime, included the Death Note anime in 2005. You have likely seen something he has written if you’ve touched an anime. Or maybe not, I don’t know.

2. The suits in this. They are absolutely gorgeous, but they were infamously dangerous. 

The Changéríon suit alone had two versions, a 100 kg (~ 200 lb) version for close up shots and a 40kg (~ 80 lb) suit for action scenes. Both were terrifying to those in it. Veteran suit actor Jiro Okamoto commented on the suit being absurdly heavy and fearing he would break it, not to mention that it was so heavy that it hurt his neck. This thing supposedly nearly sent suit actors to the hospital! And yet the action is generally decent despite the struggle in these beasts of a set of suits.

3. The opening, “OVER THE TIMES ~ Beyond The Present~” by MISA. It’s just awesome. It’s really awesome. I mean listen to it. It’s super awesome. 

Aww yeah....

SO! Now that I’ve gotten all of that out of the way, on to the reviews! The format is simple. A summary of the plot first, then my thoughts on it. I’ll see how this works and just go from there.

EPISODE 1: “A Hero!! Me?”

Air Date: April 3, 1996

Bumbling detective Akira Suzumura is hired to investigate a series of missing student reports from a local elementary school. After a night of staking the grounds out, he soon finds himself on a new path after a freak accident and an attack by a monster from the inter-dimensional invaders known as the Darkzeid lead him to unwittingly become the warrior of light: Changéríon! But as he struggles to master his new powers and deal with the mysterious SAIDOC organization, the full threat of Darkzeid begins to awaken.

Changéríon starts out about as weird as you can expect a show like this to with a massive hoop spiralling down a flight of stairs to a narrow Tokyo tunnel and having a creepy 90′s CG entity force its soulless face out towards the camera. It only escalates by going to a dramatic sequence of Akira and his assistant Akemi seemingly armed and ready for a shootout....only for the sequence to be a harmless rescue of a local puppy. This is Inoue at his peak weirdness, something which can really be hit or miss, but it’s strangely all a bunch of baffling moments which click oddly well. Akira isn’t much of a hero in many ways: He’s clumsy, he’s a bit lecherous, selfish and lazy. He doesn’t have much cash and doesn’t even pay part-timers like Akemi well. And yet despite all of this he has his heart in the right place and it’s fun to watch him fumble around in the suit at the episode’s end. It even made me chuckle seeing him “free up” time on a completely empty schedule to help the school find their students. While some scenes do feel disjointed and a bit uncomfortable (including a very uncomfortable joke about pedophilia which struck me as more than a little uncalled for in a show aimed at children), everything is really bonkers and pretty exciting here! It all ends with the main villains being awakened and a budding rivalry between Akira and the former, intended Changéríon candidate, Hayami, as the good folks at SAIDOC quietly wonder “What on earth have we gotten ourselves into with this nut?” 

It’s also worth mentioning that this show is a definite turning point for Toei’s production, having been one of their first shows recorded on digital video rather than film, and it’s chock full of now dated CGI and strange, minimalist dark rooms for otherworldy realms. It’s kinda creepy and very uncanny, but I’d say it oddly works in the show’s favor at this point. It’s got an unintentional charm to it. There’s a borderline David Lynch feel to the Darkzeid realm bits, in all honesty. Considering how big of a hit Twin Peaks was during the mid 90′s in Japan, it wouldn’t surprise me if the set designers took at least a smidge of inspiration from the Black Lodge sequences during seasons 1 and 2 of the series. It’s not as traumatic as something you’d see Lynch do, but there’s a similarly sinister atmosphere to it all here with countless bodies wrapped in plastic...like...bags, much like Laura Palmer was.

 The combat itself is a bit strangely edited too. Lots of sped up footage and Changéríon seldom kicks (more often getting kicked around instead), which I will assume is due to that hulking suit. But it also gives us one of the most ridiculou(sly satisfying) attacks ever with the Shining Attack. Which...uh...well...

....okay it’s pretty rad, I won’t lie. That’s pretty great. It is. It’ll get used to death in future episodes, but it’s still cool here.

First impression is a good one. It’s like this episode sets the tone for what is to come quite well.

Episode 2: “Twinkle Twinkle, Little Brain”

Air Date: April 10, 1996

The three generals of Darkzeid awaken and enter the human world, with plans to consume humans to satisfy their ravenous appetites. Meanwhile, SAIDOC Chief Munakata explains to Akira about the threat of Darkzeid and their need for his help, only for him to swiftly turn them down and celebrate his newfound superpowers with an unlimited shopping spree. But in the process he not only angers operatives Hayami and Eri, but finds himself in yet another Darkzeid plot as Akemi and Eri are kidnapped by an otherworld monster using posessed shoes. It’s up to Changéríon to save the missing women before they end up on Darkzeid’s lunch menu!

It’s here that we see Inoue throw in another one of his big tropes with character writing: The reluctant hero. This isn’t the first time he’d written that character archetype (another great example of this is Gai Yuki/Black Condor in Jetman) but it’s something he loves to write quite often. In this case, Akira decides to just go hog wild with loans he can’t afford, and it’s actually pretty funny. Buying out restaurants for the day, loading up on shoes for Akemi, and just being a total snot and a cocky jerk until he’s forced to realize that he put his own employee in danger and team up with Hayami....after a bizarre sequence of both of them sneaking into the same Darkzeid shoe store. In drag. And not recognizing each other. In drag. Before fighting it out in front of onlookers. In drag. This is after a scene with the store owner, the monster of the week (with a literal face full of shoes in his monster form, no less) attempts to feed his kidnapped victims with mysterious goop in high heel shoes. There’s no shortage of surreal visuals here and it does get disjointed at points, yet I feel like the story comes to a more coherent point from here. 

Despite the goofier antics, there’s still that underlying sinister aura to the Darkzeid generals. Their designs are legitimately creepy and their hushed meetings in dimly lit rooms, murmuring about their need to consume humans and how darkness will consume their own world could easily give a kid nightmares. Even I was amazed at how well the monster suits were pulled off in this show. The villains look like villains, and they’re fittingly mysterious.

In terms of action, Changéríon gets his aptly named Gun Laser, a really nifty weapon with a gimmick I love! Y’see, it runs on disks that he summons from his chest. And the discs spin. Go figure that Sega would manufacture all these toys with a disc gimmick. Not only was it the peak of the CD boom, it also made me chuckle thinking about how they had moved into CDs with the Sega Saturn at around the same time. (Plus the Gun Laser just looks really dang cool!)

 We’re getting places now that the initial stage has been set! Slowly but surely, we’re getting places! 

Episode 3: “A Bunch of Brides”

Air Date: April 17, 1996

Brides are mysterious disappearing at the altar! Darkzeid is behind this! Akira plans to counter these objections to holy matrimony with the help of Hayami and Akemi...but time and again things keep going south! Can he save the day and stop these foul occurrences? Meanwhile, in a basement lab, Chief Munakata struggles to develop the sidekicks Akira needs in his battle...

If you haven’t figured out that this series is meant to be goofy at this point, I don’t know what to tell you. This is a pretty fluffy and light episode with some good gags strewn throughout. Perhaps the funniest is Akira’s futile attempt at teaching Hayami how to flirt with women. It’s done with the most 90′s montage imaginable and it killed me with how good it was. The follow up is the sequence in the above shot, which I won’t spoil the full context for, but it also got a laugh out of me. There’s slapstick, there’s snark, there’s a simple but weird vibe to this whole episode and it’s totally fine. We’ve gotten into the groove of the show at this point it feels like, and I look forward to where it goes from here. The most interesting element plotwise is seeing Munakata’s struggle to get a set of mysterious robots up and working for Akira to use. It’s made clear that he and his research are mocked by his superiors, who don’t even think that Darkzeid is real, let alone a threat. Poor guy needs more respect! But we’ll see where things go with these machines in the next episode.

With 36 episodes left to go, Super Light Warrior Changéríon is certainly an odd, yet familiar show to me. I can see the early elements of Heisei Kamen Rider at play here with how it’s shot, the eerier villain designs, the quick cuts and kinetic feel to the action and the quirky humor and characters. It’s like seeing a mix of Metal Hero aesthetics with Super Sentai pacing making something of a hybrid that will have a lingering impact. Next time I’ll cover episodes 4-7, or perhaps change up the pace a bit. Expect some cool new robot buddies next time, but other than that I’m as in the dark as everyone else!
