How do you feel about Eugards weird plot line?

That whole country is so fucked up lmao. The themes of the story get completely inverted once the characters cross the border, everyone of any status is completely unhinged, Muspel’s influence means that it is quite literally rotten at its very roots, it’s survival was almost entirely reliant on Stargazers and bending to the whims of fate — Vollachia is just the Re:Zero equivalent of Hell, I think.

Eugard’s whole thing is inexcusable on SO many levels, if you’re asking me how I feel about him genociding two entire races of people in order to keep reviving his dead lover for centuries on end, but like — I feel like that’s kind of the point of Vollachia as a whole. Everything about that place is completely insane, the fact that THAT was their old Emperor is just the cherry on top. I understand how other readers may have come away from that plot with a sour taste in their mouths, but — I guess I just feel like you were supposed to see that as just the final nail in the coffin for how absolutely batshit that whole place is. If you leave Arcs 7 and 8 without concluding that Vollachia is AWFUL, I feel like you kinda missed the point lol

But even putting that aside — I’m not convinced we’re actually done with that whole thing. Todd is still a force within the story and I’m holding out hope we’ll see him again in future arcs, we’ve gotten side stories referencing how Lugunica was apparently complicit in that whole genocide deal even AFTER Eugard’s subplot finished up, there was apparently a rather important side story with the molepeople that hinted at future plot progression (haven’t read it yet) — I just don’t think we’re done here. I think the story wants us to THINK we’re done, but I don’t think we’re ACTUALLY done yet.

(And I’m also not entirely convinced that we’re done with MUSPEL, with how Vincent turned to the camera to give a whole speech about how Emilia and Subaru “absolutely could not find out the secret behind Muspel” and then they DIDN’T. That…yeah, there’s a lot here that I feel still didn’t get followed up on yet.)

Reread the "Sword identity" short story recently. I like how in it and the EX4 novel, Goz, Morgu, Groovy, and Balleroy are just depicted like regular co-workers. Casual friends, even.

And then there's their two co-workers who are constantly dueling each other.

And then there’s that other co-worker who's constantly staging rebellions against the throne.
