so we all know crocodiles take your #1 podium spot, but what are some other reptiles you like?
I really love reptiles in general, although my second favorite animal is sharks, followed by ostriches! But my second favorite reptile would have to be the chameleon!! Even leaving aside the whole color changing thing, I just love their eyes and their tongues and their little grippy hands, they're so awesome looking.
Tumblr media
They make great characters too because of all those different elements - Francis, Yooka, Inteleon (my chosen starter that gen) and Kecleon, Fred the depressed Chameleon Twist guy... even Deathclaws from Fallout are descended from Jackson's Chameleons (the horned ones that look like little triceratops) although that may be hard to believe.
And I also love snakes. Too many cool snakes and fictional snake designs out there to count.

Yooka-Laylee (2017)
Tumblr media
Yooka-Laylee is a platformer game released on PC, the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and the Amazon Luna over the course of a few years. Considered a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie, with that game's team even having been responsible for it, the game features its titular characters, a chameleon named Yooka and a bat named Laylee. The two must work together to reclaim the magical One Book after it is stolen by the greedy CEO Capital B and Dr. Quack.
Using their unique powers, they traverse through a series of different worlds to collect the One Book's "Pagies" and put a stop to the nefarious duo. Over the course of the adventure, they learn new powers, face peculiar challenges, and meet 'unforgettable' characters. The game has a local co-op mode and contains several secrets to search for, such as minigames and collectibles.
It was developed by Playtonic Games and published by Team17. Some critics believed the game was unoriginal and relied too heavily on nostalgia to truly be successful, and reviews on Steam lean positive, though some complain of slow movement in oversized maps, awkward controls, and various technical bugs. However, there is also a considerable amount of praise for the graphics and lovable characters.
Tumblr media
In 2019, a spin-off, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, was released. Unlike the original, this game is a 2.5D platformer, in which the duo aims to stop Capital B from enslaving a kingdom of bees. Like the original, this game holds a plethora of secrets, puzzles, and collectibles, as well as extra challenges for an added layer of playability.
This game plays as more of an homage to games like Donkey Kong Country than Banjo-Kazooie. This game also boasts mostly positive reviews on Steam, with praise on its graphics, overworld, and level design, though, once again, some seem to feel the movement is too slow and a few agree that the final level is quite a challenge. Most critics seem to be in agreement, calling it much more modern and polished, but perhaps a bit too difficult.
Tumblr media
Currently, Playtonic is working on a remaster of the original Yooka-Laylee, intended to boast "all new challenges, secrets, mechanics, and accessibility options", as well as a new map and customization options. It also claims there will be a better camera and controls. A release date, as of writing this, has not been announced (that I can find).

Laylee thinks Yooka’s head is a comfy spot to take a nap. He thinks it’s cute.
Wanted to make a picture similar to the Banjo and Kazooie image I made earlier but with this duo!

Hey everyone!Recently I got to play Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair and you know what? I really liked it!It's no DKC Tropical Freeze but it's the closest we'll get of a new DKC game. Capital B is back to no good and only Yooka the chameleon and Laylee the bat can save the entire Bee kingdom from certain doom! But in order to do that, this dynamic duo needs to enlist the help of the beethalion, so they can pass all the traps that await them at the Impossible Lair. So with colorful visuals, great platforming and especially, David Wise music, you'll have hours of fun in this game.Anyway, I did this piece entirely digital with Krita so I hope you guys like it!Please stay safe and until next time! Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair is developed by Playtonic and published by Team17.

Angry Birds - Red - ▼ - childhood headcanon
Red had a pretty rough childhood. Other than losing his parents, he and Terence had to witness the cruelties of the world. Though Terence wanted to put Red in the orphanages, he knew that the environment would never be suitable for Red, so he always sacrificed his things for Red. Though Terence did try his hardest to provide for Red (Food, Shelter, Toys, wise with the money he had and earned by doing odd jobs), Red still had that empty void of parental love that Terence was never able to fill. That’s what makes Red so loving and caring of the children, both Toons/Movie version. Just because HE through his miserable childhood doesn’t mean he would want the same to happen the children to his Flock (even the Eggs), or the others around him. The pain he felt before, helps him feel sympathy and empathy. To not only his Flock, but everyone else. And how Terence was very defensive to him in his child years, it explains his overprotective nature as well. Red had very little-none friends in his childhood. Except of course, when he one day met Bomb and Chuck.
[I appreciate the asks, please do keep ‘em coming!]

The first time I remembered on the day where Yooka-Laylee was released on various platforms, the Nintendo Switch version was mind blowing and entirely charming. Just playing it right from the start not only marked a revived age of 3D platformers, but led to my newfound love for chameleons and bats.
Five years later, it was something I wanted to go back and do a celebratory drawing over what made this game unique and special to me. Even though we haven't had a new Banjo Kazooie title at the time (No thanks to *Sam who hogs up literally everything he takes in his own way), at least these two look perfect.
Happy 5th anniversary!
*It's Microsoft Sam in case you're wondering. He's not funny anymore.

Y’know... I think Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair actually has a lot of better mechanics than Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze...  Like the health system, you get two charactes, if you get hit, one of the characters ( Laylee ) will panick and flee, but unlike DKC, you have the chance to grab her and gain your hits back... so it’s combining the old DKC health system with Sonic a bit...  and then Yooka, being a chameleon, will pick up projectiles with his tongue and hold them in his mouth, which actually allows him to swing on ropes and do his roll attack. Best of all you don’t have to hold a button to keep the projectile like how DK does.  You just tap it again to throw.  It also reverts back to the “Y to grab vines” instead of ZL like DK, idk why they did that, it’s annoying to remember... also you can change which side of the rope you’re on just like classic DK... grinding on vine rails is also improved, you simply hop on and press down to hang from it, I’ve always struggled with those segments in the retro studios DK games...
I’m really liking impossible lair a lot and it actually feels a lot closer to the original DKC than the retro studios games do, while still taking notes about how Retro improved on the games. All it needs is the Animal buddies and some enemies as memorable as the Kremlings. ( Captial B is great as always, but his Corplets have always kinda sucked... they’re better here but only marginally )
Don’t get it wrong though, DKC Tropical Freeze has the Yooka Laylee beat in visually interesting levels ( though I will say Yooka Laylee delivered on my favorite trope of platformer levels based off of towns and cities. There is never enough of that. ) and clever level designs, and despite Laylee being a Bat who could fly Yooka around in the last game, she doesn’t even slow Yooka’s decent like Diddy or Dixie does in Tropical Freeze... which I feel kinda neutral on tbh?? Platformers should test your skill and “Slow fall” is kind of cheap... but still, Laylee is not as interesting as having Three other partners to pick from ( but if i’m being honest I don’t like DK’s partners being glorified power-ups. )
Yikes this was longer than I meant it to be.  Yooka Laylee and the impossible Lair is really really good, I don’t care how you felt about the first game, if you like Donkey Kong Country, play this.
