SPOILERS for the latest WandaVision episode. In the comics, Scarlet Witch is a Nexus Being—a focal point of magic and interdimensional energy in her universe. Basically a linchpin in the multiverse for Earth 616. Now that we know that Agatha is (one of) the big bads, Westview might just be a trap custom made for Wanda. As a magic user herself, a Nexus Being would be incredibly enticing. This might even shine some light on what the commercial in the last episode was about. The shark is Agatha offering Wanda an escape from her pain. The Yomagic yoghurt is Agatha creating Westview for Wanda to live in with Vision, and the kid trying to take the top off the yoghurt only to fail to do so and wither away in the process is Wanda occupying herself with her idyllic life with Vision and her kids all while she’s slowly drained. Both emotionally (her beginning to lose it in this episode) and physically (if Agatha really is trying to make use Wanda’s powers). Plus, if it turns out that Wanda is a Nexus Being in the MCU, then it ties into not just Multiverse of Madness, but Loki too. Doctor Strange would absolutely concern himself with Westview if another sorcerer was trying to manipulate a Nexus Being. His job is to protect reality after all. And its connections to Loki come from the fact that the Time Variance Authority (which will be heavily featured in the show) monitor all Nexus Beings.

Are we gonna talk about that yomagic commercial in episode six of Wandavision???

So that commercial in episode 6, it can have a variety of interpretations but the one that makes the most sense to me is that it is symbollic of the deal Wanda made with some entity (wether it be Agnes, Mephisto, Nightmare, etc.). I also think it parallels the conversation Wanda had with Peitro this episode.

So the child says they'd give anything to have some food because they're starving to death. I think this parallels Wanda telling Pietro shw didn't know how this all started only that she felt so desparately alone. The shark shows up to offer the child food just like we're theorizing some entity showed up to offer Wanda help brining Vision back to life. Only for the child not to be able to eat the food. Just like Wanda can no longer leave the town and Vision doesn't remember his life befor Westview.

Both Wanda and the child got the thing they wanted, Vision (and Pietro back) and food to eat, but like all deals with the "devil" it comes at a cost.

Also I think there might be something to it being called YoMagic maybe symbollic of Wanda's twins are eating away at her magic like they do in the West Coast Avengers arc where Mephisto uses the twins to siphon away Wanda's magic for himself.

Agatha All Along

We got one more show within the show and its main tune kills (I can’t get Agatha All Along out of my head). It was also nice to see I was right about her manipulating the events with twins and Vision. She’s also behind nuPietro. I knew it wasn’t Wanda but some other sorcerer of comparable power. I just suspected this was Strange coming on the show. I should’ve known better - Strange wouldn’t be this cruel to bring her brother back.

And that ending also made it look like Agatha has been directing it so it implies she’s responsible for the whole thing but I’m not sure. When she comes in the reality warp is already established (she lands in her own clothes so the Hex didn’t change her she adjusted herself). So I still think that Pietro questions was to figure out how this came to be. And all the interference with triggering twins growth spurts and making Vision question and leave and thus triggering expansion was all testing Wanda’s power and control. I think Agatha didn’t make Wanda create the Hex. I think she just noticed it emerged and come to investigate. And the she took over.

And last week commercial makes me think she may also feed on Wanda’s power. She can do all those things because she is tapping to Wanda’s magic (yomagic!) and slowly taking it over which is why Wanda seems to lose control on the reality. And she will stop anyone who tries to stop her - sending nuPietro to stop Monica, keeping Vision and Darcy out of town, getting the twins out of the way (Billy noticed he can’t read her mind) - at least for long enough she can take Wanda over for good. No more Ms good neighbour.

Of course Agnes isn’t the only one in play there. Monica is back inside and this time with her memories intact. And with superpowers. I liked the E-Man’s idea of how Monica could’ve gotten the powers from crossing the barrier while others wouldn’t (I didn’t like the idea of giving superpowers to anyone simply crossing it for all those SWORD agents - see how they are still assholes inside). The idea that she is changed because she was wrapped in Wanda’s powers and those get remixed into her by the barrier makes her different from everyone else crossing. And would make her another one empowered by Infinity Stone and explain her power levels in MCU continuity.

But the way they are shown in this episode made me wonder again if she already had them. The way she seems to knows she can cross when a rover was easily repelled. The lack of her surprise in seeing the power display or landing that drop. Or how she seems to turn it on to see Agatha’s basement. It’s like she already knows she has it and how to use it. It just that the last time Wanda caught her unawares and rewrote her memory so she forgot how to use it. This time she knew what to expect so she made it inside intact. She doesn’t use her powers against Wanda because she believes she can convince her to stop. And she was getting to Wanda until Agatha intervenes. Now she knows who the bad guys are and I’m hoping for high speed fight with nuPietro.

And this week commercial hints why Agatha is so interested in Wanda’s power. Unlike the initial commercial this relies on comic book knowledge not MCU (I haven’t read all these stories but I did catch up on Wanda and Vison’s history so I’m no expert) so Spoilers

Wanda’s situation is perfectly described - the world did move on without her for a whole 5 years. And what is worse she came back to see the boyfriend she just traumatically lost twice in pieces in a lab and experimented on. And now she has made this reality where he can be alive again and she just want to be left alone but they won’t let her be.

Wanda’s powers in comic books come in large part of her being the Nexus being of the main Marvel universe. She can pick which timeline is the real one and separate realities from each other so she anchors the 616 reality (or any reality she choses - see House of M). The world literally revolves around her.

And of course Vision being disassembled and brought back with no memories is also what happened in the comics. Losing all that bound them together  pushes Wanda into mental breakdown (plus being manipulated by numerous bad guys - like Agatha Harkness). Losing the twins due to them being the her own creations (disappearing when she was not thinking about them) powered by pieces of Mephisto’s soul (he took those back) and then forgetting them (Agatha again) didn’t help either. I hope none of this is going to end as bad as it got in comics. Wanda never deserved any of that just because no one knew how to let her be powerful (also see Jean Grey dying). I hope Dr Strange can help early this time.

Still, all that makes me wonder if the big bad is not Mephisto like everyone speculates but Immortus. After all in comics he is the one behind all of that. It’d made sense since Kang the Conqueror is coming to MCU soon so this might be a set up not just to next Dr Strange film but also next Ant-Man and Wasp movie.

But for now I just hope Wanda feels her feelings, confronts her truth and sizes her destiny and moves on with her life with possibly less depression. Or at least less abuse.

Wandavision Episode 9 Thoughts

We made it to the series finale, folks! I’m generally satisfied, but of course, I’ll put my thoughts behind the cut. My husband made a good point - he’d cooked up some tray meals for dinner for us, and he said “If ever there was a show to have TV dinners with, this is it!”

I’d seen the photo of the boys getting ready to throw down with their parents, so when they ran off, I wasn’t sure how they would loop back. I don’t blame Wanda for sending them away though.

Ok, so Agatha is a magic eater! I know people were wondering about that after the YoMagic commercial a few episodes back. As we were working through, I honestly wondered how far they would take Wanda’s decay. Bad idea or not, seeing Wanda hit Agatha with a car was immensely satisfying.

I swear, every time I think Hayward has a lower boundary, he keeps dropping further. Sending White Vision to crush Wanda and later being willing to shoot the boys? My GOD, the man is sick. I know Darcy said “Enjoy prison”, but I hope we actually see his trial in an upcoming project, whether that’s a film or a side piece because he needs to pay.

Jimmy may have been bluffing about calling Quantico, but I’m thinking that once he got the phone, he could at least reach the NYC FBI field office.

Oooof, the reckoning with the townspeople...this one hurt. That said, I’m glad they didn’t gloss over the trauma the Westview populace has been put through. Wanda may have meant no harm, but taking away people’s free will is fucked up. Even with Agatha being THE WORST, Wanda locking her away in her own head at the end still gave me the creeps.

YES, Monica! Kick “Fietro’s” smug ass! And did he call Agatha the “missus”? Very clever use of energy detection on Monica’s part. I wonder if Ralph will still have powers after this. Agatha did say that spells can’t really be “uncast” - if he stays around, I could see him asking to help out since he helped hurt Wanda.

Aha! White Vision is still a being of logic and reason! We have something to work with here! I hope we see him again, especially now that he has his memories back.

The ending duel was pretty awesome all the way around - and the Scarlet Witch outfit looked much cooler in live action than I expected it would. Wanda truly is a queen!

Ok, Wanda letting the Hex end and take Vision and the boys is where I was almost in tears. It was the right thing to do, and I’m glad they all got to say their goodbyes, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t brutal to watch. Same for Wanda leaving town at the end - yes, in another life, Westview could have been her home, but she’s left too much damage.

Glad for the mid-credit scene bringing some levity, the “debriefs are for the weak” line made me chuckle. I guess Monica and Nick Fury are gonna be going on new adventures.

Ok, the post-credit scene worries me - and I bet that’s the point. Yes, Wanda’s learning now, and the boys returning has precedence in the comics, but I can definitely see Dr. Strange 2 involving her resurrection attempts going very wrong.
