What is mastery in movement? To me, it's when the muscles can work together. . Bridges my favourite. With the spine long, pull the feet to the glutes. Raise the hips let the knees go forward. Naturally the knee will be over the ankles with these cues. Squeeze the glutes and inner thighs. . If you lose the breath, then you're mostly straining trying to hold this. Keep grace through breathing. . Butterfly bridges. Press the feet into each other. Drag them back into glutes. Let the knees go out as the glutes are active. . Add weight if you want faster muscle fatigue. Keep the grace. For sets and reps , use a weight that you can consistently do with mind muscle connection. 3sets of 12reps with a 4 second hold at the top of each rep. . If you're just using bodyweight, and want an increase in intensity. ✨✨HANDSTAND WORKOUT!✨✨ well- a workout for handstands :) ‘ 1. Handstand w/ either tennis balls or blocks. This helps me find “mind muscle connection” in my legs while holding a handstand! By keeping my legs fired up, squeezing in towards each other, this helps maintain stability, encourages core to engage, and brings in more mindfulness & play -don’t drop em;) 2. Core Cruncher 😱!!! This one always gets my belly fired up- and is working on the muscles required for strength in your handstands! (muscle memory!) Option to place your hands on either side of you, or under your low back for more stability. Or- for more intensity, hold and keep your arms above your head!! 3. “Goku Turtle Shell Approach”, (Handstands with Ankle Weights!) For me this really helped feel core engagement in handstands, -this was something I had a hard time figuring out. More “lifting” with control instead of using only momentum to fling your legs up into handstand. Find a neutral pelvis (not too much booty out, but hips not pushing too forward), engage your core as much as possible, and the weights should help you push your core little harder! 4. Wheel, Wall, Press! Adjust your wheel safely against a wall, you’ll notice you might need your hands placed slightly differently then a typical handstand. Once you can feel the weight distribution, start to push your head into the wheel to lift your legs! Think about pushing the wheel & ground away from you, to lift your legs! 👍🏻✨ ‘ Comment questions guys and I’ll do my best to help!! Motivational post: if the holiday period was an excuse to let yourself go an little (physically) and now you realise it's March and your January motivation is wearing thin. Remember that I took 8 weeks off from the gym due to various life struggles. I've noticed I'm much weaker than I was before December so I've taken a snap today of my current state and will now use this to measure my progress in 3 months time. Update on my journey doing #30daysofyoga with @yogawithadriene been doing the yoga videos on YouTube each day. Got to Day 8 thankfully a slow day. Oh boy have my stomach muscles been sore the past couple days. Haha! Then she led me right into #oneleggedpidgeon for the first time ever. I did it! I felt tricked into an accomplishment. :D look at Adriene all calm in this pose. I definitely wasn't that at ease but still got it. #yogagains Almost got into the crow pose. I'm borderline there. I guess this exemplifies why they call yoga a "practice". I am now into my second month of yoga practice, and today was my first successful shoulder press pose... I also managed my first unassisted headstand (then lost my balance and tucked and rolled into a somersault)... #workinprogress #yogiintraining #yogagains Thanks to Derek at @pranahouseyoga for another amazing class.
