Yo-kai Gummies at Dollar General!

You may have noticed others commenting about it, but today I was able to check for myself: Dollar General (not Tree, this time it’s right) has Yo-kai Watch Gummies!

This is gonna be chewy, artificially-flavored and delicious.

So Yokai Watch Puni Puni unveiled a new Dr. Maddiman recolor for a new event that started around New Years, and the existence of a new eyeball doctor was enough to get me out of Yokai Watch fanart retirement because I just had to draw him. So here he is! Gentotsu-inchou aka Dr. Limit Break aka “Dr. Fruit Gummy”, as the Maddiman fans on Twitter have been calling him. And, like all the times I draw Yokai recolors, I decided to change up his design a bit. Parts of his design came from @kaialone , who worked in some biohazard-esque details like the rubber booties and the destroyed hazmat suit.

Design notes *Has chemical burns on his face. There are NO LIMITS to his experiments! *My headcanon for how he died was that he was working on a new energy drink, but he kept upping the caffeine content on it, and then when he went to test it in front of the FDA, he took a swig of it and his heart just gave up and he keeled over. His last words are "Whaaaaaaat, it's perfectly safe!" before he dropped like a sack of bricks in front of government officials. *He will occasionally use the IV drip, but most of the time he just patches up his two hearts (which he has double of to INCREASE HIS POWER) with band-aids. *His yellow pants as the sad remains of hazmat suit, which he keeps fixing rather than replacing because THERE ARE NO LIMITS to how long you can keep wearing your old clothes. *Rubber boots because he works with chemicals more. No rubber gloves though because they’d just get in his way. *Probably not related to Dr. Maddiman but he’s still a little skeptical.

“Hello, everyone!” Lux greeted as she sat on the high chair, set aside from the other chairs lined on her left. “We will begin the SuperM Mid-Term Exam soon. But before that, let me tell you the rules,”

“Yes, Luxie~” BaekHyun called cheekily, making the rest follow him.

“First off, how about we do this properly?” Lux looked at her members expectantly, “Since all of us are enacting a school setting, let’s us address each other as such, you call the person here,” She gestured to herself, “as Professor, you can talk among yourselves without honorifics.”

“Yo! Friends!” Lucas exclaimed, moving to hug TaeMin and BaekHyun sitting next to him.

“I didn’t talk to my teacher politely in my school days, ” BaekHyun said, looking petulant.

“No wonder,” Heart commented, “You always sounded like a rulebreaking simpleton to me.”

“Yah!” BaekHyun sounded offended but before he could say much, Lux had stopped him.

“You’ll be thrown out then!” Lux grinned, “My class, my rules, BaekHyun-ah!” She added, when she saw him try to say something.

“Moving on, ” She laughed at him, “I don’t want you guys cheating, no writing rubbish, please don’t embarrass yourself, and I expect each and everyone of you to do well! You’ve known me long enough to all that is in here, okay?”

“I haven’t known you for that long though~” Lucas said, raising his hand.

“Except Lucas, maybe, the rest of you!” She pointed to each one.

“Yah, pointing at your elders is rude, ” BaekHyun said, in a matter of fact tone.

“I’m the elder here, BaekHyun-ah, ” She told him calmly, and continued to point at each one, “I’m watching all of you, you fail to answer this, you are doomed!”

“Omo, the teacher is a little scary, ” Kai said, acting like he had shivers.

“You fail the test and I’ll be scarier!” She added, with a fake look of anger, but soon burst into her gummy smile.

“Okay, BaekHyun-ah, come on,” She told him casually, “Help me hand out these papers, ”

“Aigoo, our teacher’s lazy too~” BaekHyun said loudly, making everyone laugh. He nevertheless took the sheets of paper and passed them around.

“Do I get extra credit for this?” BaekHyun asked as he sat back.

“You would’ve,” Lux nodded, making the others whine, “But you called me lazy, so no.” She shook her head. The members laughed. Lux bullying BaekHyun and him letting her do it was the sweetest thing according to them. BaekHyun cursed at himself, laughing.

“Take your time,” Lux told them reassuringly, “but finish if you don’t finish in three minutes all of you are failed,”

“Yah,” They complained but it didn’t affect her.

“Your time starts now!” She said and everyone started to write, Lux too focused on writing her paper.

“This is difficult!” Ten said, looking at the questions.

“Does everyone’s friends know all of this?” Lucas asked Reign, trying to look at what she was scribbling away.

“Don’t copy mine, you fantong!” Reign said, using her folder to better hide her answer.

“Lucas, keep your butt on the chair,” Lux looked at Lucas standing up trying to look at Reign’s paper, “Or I’ll be deducting marks from your already less-marked paper!”

“Do you think we wouldn’t know this?” BaekHyun asked, incredulously.

“Do you know the answers, BaekHyun-ah? ” Lux challenged.

“Of course not,” He said, making her laugh.

“There’s so many answers to these questions, ” Heart said, making TaeYong nod.

“Will you consider it if we write any one?” TaeYong asked, looking innocent.

“Write what you know, SaRang-ie, TaeYong-ie,” Lux smiled at him, “I’ll see when we mark your paper, ”

“TaeYong-ie? ” BaekHyun looked at her eyes wide, “You have favorites!”

“Shut up, BaekHyun-ie,” She smiled at him sweetly. She looked back to her paper but looked back up after a question.

“I want to be disappointed to see you struggling, but, ” The members looked at her, “…this is hard! I don’t know answers to some of it too.” Lux said, looking sorry for them.

“I’m worried about what I’ll write on your exams!” She added, “I barely know mine!” She laughed causing the others you laugh too.

“Time’s up, kids!” Lux put her pencil down, “Pencil down!” She swung her legs back and forth, excited about the rubbish answers she’s about to get.

“Mark your papers on your own, I’ll let you know the answers,” Lux said, “Let’s begin!”

“When is Lux’s birthday?” She looked expectantly at the members.

“October 27!” Heart, Reign, TaeYong, Ten and Mark said, having celebrated her birthday together too many times for them to forget.

“December 25!” Kai screamed, looking excited.

“Do I look like I was born on Christmas?” Lux deadpanned at Kai.

“You always give gifts on Christmas though!”

“That’s because it’s Christmas, Kai-yah!” Lux whined at him, “How could you forget my birthday? You were there to celebrate my birthday since I was five!”

“Sorry!” Was all Kai said.

“November 27!” TaeMin screamed.

“TaeMin-ah, ” Lux sighed, “If you get this wrong, what about the rest?”

“February 29!” BaekHyun screamed, knowing very well his answer was wrong.

“Yah, BaekHyun! 1999 did not have a February 29!” Lux laughed in disbelief.

“Uh-huh,” He said to himself, inciting laughter from everyone.

“It’s October 27!” Heart, Reign, Ten, TaeYong and Mark cheered while the rest sulked.

“Lucas, ” She called him, as he tried to hide from her. “What did you write?”

“October,” He said.

“The date?” Lux looked at him expectantly.

“I forgot,” Lux laughed at the answer.

“Okay, take 0.5 for getting the month right!” Lux said, making him stand up and cheer.

“Yeay!” Lucas screamed as he happily sat back down.

“Teacher! I got the date right though!” TaeMin make his dumpling hands, trying to get at least half a point.

“There are 12 27s in a year, TaeMin-ah!” Lux said, whining, “You should know my birthday, ”

“Okay, next question! What is Lux’s nickname?”

“The Red Sky!” Ten screamed as soon as Lux finished her question.

“It’s my pseudonym, Ten-ah!” Ten looked disappointed, but read the next name. “Baby Tigress!”

“Actually, I don’t know what my nickname is,” Lux revealed, “so, tell me your answers, we’ll see if it’s okay or not. Baby Tigress or simply Tigress is acceptable!”

“Our teacher’s useless!” BaekHyun said, SuperM laughed.

“Yah, Byun BaekHyun!” She tried to stay stern, but laughed anyway.

“Human Chanel!” Lucas said, making the others scream, impressed. “Ooooooh~”

“Fancy!” Lucas laughed louder.

“I acknowledge that, next, Kai-yah,” She called Kai, “What did you write?”

“Luxie!”

“Okay, one point!” Kai cheered on having got a point.

“Mandu! ” TaeMin said, excitedly making his dumpling hands.

“Okay~” Lux copied his gestures.

“Mochi!” BaekHyun said, raising his eyebrows.

“You started it!” She accused him, having hated that name when he initially called her that. He always pinched her cheeks too hard whenever he called her that. “But okay, one point for Mochi too, ”

“Kitten!” TaeYong tried this time, “Nyang Nyang-ie” He repeated in a cute way.

“Accepted, ” Lux said, moving to Heart, who grinned, “NoEul-ie! ”

“Agreed, next!”

“Ell-ie!” Mark raised his hand, “Accepted!”

“Last, Reign-ah!” She called Reign, “What have you written?”

“Lil Lux! Munchkin! Baby Doll! Pixie!” Reign recited, looking proud of herself.

“No need to show off, you!” Lux laughed at the obvious attempt to show-off, “Accepted!”

“What is Lux’s real name?” Lux asked, looking hopeful.

“Lee NoEul!” Every one screamed, except Kai, who shouted, “Chu NoEul!”

“Yah!” Lux looked absolutely done with Kai, “You are hopeless! How do you not know my name?”

“Is it not Chu NoEul?”

“Of course not,” Lux whined, “it’s Lee NoEul, you fool! Why will it be Chu NoEul?”

“Teacher, but Chu NoEul makes more sense!” Kai argued, “Vermillion Red Red Sky makes, more sense than a plum tree red sky!”

“Say that to my parents!” Lux rolled her eyes.

“What is Lux’s blood type?” They had moved to the next question.

“B!” Heart and Reign exclaimed at her, but the rest shouted “AB.”

“It’s B, ” Lux said, “I didn’t expect you guys to get this anyway, I’m a blood type B!”

“Teacher, you aren’t AB?” TaeMin looked at her in shock.

“I thought you were a genius, aren’t you AB?” Kai laughed.

“Why, can’t other blood types be geniuses?” Lux challenged, knowing they didn’t have an AB blood type among them.

“Wah,” TaeMin said, “that’s unexpected!”

“How tall is Lux?” She sighed, after reading the question. “This answer need not be factual, okay!” Lux tried, making them laugh because they already knew they was going to mock her. “What makes me happy as an answer will get a point, you can change it if you want too,” She offered them, but most declined.

“Let’s hear it, ” Lux said.

“160 cms!” Kai screamed happily, Lux rolled her eyes at him.

“How do you get this factually correct?”

“Any shorter and she’ll fade out of existence,” Laughed Lucas.

“183 cms!” BaekHyun said smugly, knowing his answer was subjectively good.

“One point!” Lux gave him a thumbs-up.

“Anyone who has written less than that,” Lux pointed to BaekHyun’s paper, “Minus one!”

“Teacher!”

“The right answer is 183 cms because I don’t want BaekHyun-ie to fail, ” BaekHyun laughed in truimph.

“What is Lux’s weight?” She asked, swinging her legs back and forth. “It’s 45 kg last time I checked, ”

“Next, What is her shoe size?” Lux looked at them, “230 mm”

“What?” BaekHyun deadpanned, “Should we be getting her a booster car seat?”

“How can you walk with those baby feet?” Kai looked at her like he was staring at a hurt animal, “Omo, she’s a baby, tiny little baby!”

“Moving on,” Lux continued, not wanting to be dissed more, “What is her hobby?”

She gave them a look, “You guys complained that I was getting too involved with this hobby of mine, I expect you to get this right! It’s gaming.”

“Is it not Mukbang?” TaeYong asked her, putting an X on his paper.

“TaeYong-ah, you confiscated my switch a few days ago, complaining I wasn’t getting involved in 127 Squad meeting! How could you forget?”

“I thought it was watching YouTube!” TaeMin said.

“I thought you were learning drums?” Heart pouted, Reign nodded.

“BaekHyun-ah?” She looked at the male, “You got it right?”

“Yep!” He gave her a smug look, “I know you that well.” He bragged, causing Lux to scoff.

“You nearly got everything before this wrong!” She reminded him.

“Teacher, I remember the important stuff.”

“Sure, sure BaekHyun-ah” Lux teased him, “My hobby is more important than my birthday, and blood type after all...Another tricky question, What is her favorite food?” Lux smiled, “…let’s hear it!”

“Samgyetang!” TaeYong screamed, having cooked it nearly every day for all these years. Lux laughed remembering the memories behind the dish. “One point, ”

“Sweet things,” Ten raised his hand, “Correct!” Lux gave him a thumbs-up.

“Mala HotPot,” Reign said, smiling. Lux grinned back, “One point,”

“Mochi!” BaekHyun said.

“Accepted!” Came the answer.

“Dim Sum! ” Heart stood up to answer.

“Agreed!”

“Meat!” Lucas said and got one point.

“Buffet!” Mark said, remembering how she said she loves Buffet when they visited Bali.

“I love buffets, Markie,” She said in English, “…but it’s a collection of many foods, not a single dish.”

“Buddae Jiggae!” Kai shouted.

“You really couldn’t have gotten a wrong answer. Accepted.” Lux nodded, turning to TaeMin.

“Mandu,” TaeMin did his dumpling hands at her again.

“Accepted!”

“Now, I want the specifics!” She slammed her hands on the table, “What is her least favorite food?”

“I can’t eat anything that too pungent,” Lux told them, “Fermented Skate, it’s my least favorite,”

“Yeay,” Reign did her little dance, getting her answer right.

“Mine’s right too, ” Heart mumbled, smiling at the camera. “I copied off Reign,”

“It’s not stinky tofu?” Kai asked, making Lux shake her head.

“I got sick the last time I tried to eat Skate, Kai-yah,” Lux told him, shuddering at the thought of the pungent scent of the food. “Tried, that’s the key word.”

“What is her favorite color?” Lux asked, shooting a smile at BaekHyun.

“Red, ” He smiled back at her, “I sacrificed my mic for her during our promotions!” He told the others, though they already knew.

“BaekHyun-ie, my mic’s red too.” Lux scoffed, and reminded him about the epic match they had. She had won the first round itself. “Besides, I won rock-paper-scissors, fair and square!”

“I let you win,” BaekHyun argued, shrugged.

“You looked like you would cry for losing,” Lux challenged again.

“Let’s move on,” He said, admitting defeat. Lux smiled, reading the next question. “I’m still hurt over my loss, ” He faked crying.

“Who is Lux’s role model?” Lux asked, shaking her head to herself, “I don’t really have a role model, but I do get inspired by a lot of people, so any one of my inspirations will do.”

“Coco Chanel,” Heart grinned, and Reign added, “She can’t technically say this is wrong,”

“True, accepted!” Lux turned to the boys, “Lucas!”

“Me!” He laughed, pointing at himself.

“Wrong,” She grinned back, “BaekHyun-ie?”

“Heart!” He told her, “You’ll be breaking Heart’s heart if you say this answer is wrong, ” He reminded her, making the rest laugh.

“Okay,” Lux nodded, “I’ll accept it!”

“Kai!” Kai looked proud of hself, “I’m your role model!”

“It would’ve been accepted, but you are being cocky,” Lux told him, “…so no!”

Kai looked offended, but marked his paper as an ‘X’.

“Rihanna!” Mark told loudly, “Rihanna!”

“Okay, accepted!” Lux nodded, “I do love Rihanna!”

“TaeMin!”

“You guys are getting too cocky, ” Lux told TaeMin at his happy expression. “But accepted, because I love you, ”

“Ten-Ten-ie?” Lux looked at Ten, “What’s your answer, I swear, if you wrote your name…”

“Michael Jackson?”

“Accepted, ” Lux said in an assuring tone, “TaeYong-ie, what about you?”

“Eminem, ” He looked at her with puppy eyes, remembering all the times, Lux covered his songs during the trainee assessments. The multiple months they spent, trying to analyze the artist’s works.

“Accepted!” She gave him a smile, “Moving on, What is Lux afraid of? ”

“I get scared of unexpected sounds and actions,” Lux told them, “Nothing else can be accepted,”

The members scribbled on their papers, when Lux read the next question, “What is Lux’s most coveted part on 'Super One’s album?”

“I like my part the best in Tiger Inside,” She told them, making the boys go, 'Vroom Vroom,’ teasing her lines in Tiger Inside. Lux laughed, “…but, I would love to sing the high notes in any song,”

“What is the first thing she does when she wakes up?” Lux read the next question.

“Checking her phone,” Ten said, making TaeYong go, “Ordering food!”

“Stretch!” Heart and Reign said, having seen her stretch early mornings when they promoted in the US.

“I drink water and journal!” Lux said, spinning her pen around in her hands, “I don’t use my phone till I’ve had a breakfast and I’m trying to eat homemade food these days, at least for breakfast, ”

“What is Lux’s charm?” She looked at the members, looking back at her, “I’m sorry, kids, I really don’t know,” She couldn’t help but laughter at herself, “…you could write my style, or..”

“Style!” Kai gave her a fist bump, “I knew you would give this as an answer!” Lux bumped his fist.

“Finally, you get something right!” Lux told him, “I was worried you’d fail!”

“Is Height okay?” Lucas asked teasingly.

Lux glared at him, “Yes Lucas, me being a vertically challenged person in a group of giants is a charm. ”

SuperM laughed at her timing at the tall boy.

“Dimple!” Heart said.

Lux agreed to that, “Cheeks is okay too!”

“Cheeks!” Ten and BaekHyun shouted, raising their hands.

“Body lines!” Reign said, looking amused.

“I’ll take that too!”

“Appetite!” TaeYong said and Lux laughed, “Only TaeYong-ie will find it a charm!”

“TaeMin-ie?”

“Aegyo?” He asked, eyes shining with hope.

“I don’t have aegyo though, ” Lux said in a matter of fact tone, smiling when she saw TaeMin cheer. “But it doesn’t hurt to think I do, right?”

“Show your affection towards Lux then and now through a graph.” Was the last question.

“Show me your graphs, kiddos!” She stood up, walking behingt thr chairs looking at everyone’s graphs.

Not that I know of. I share my name with the last Emperor of China. My aunt was responsible for the unique spelling of my name

Hmm… last night. I accidentally hit myself in the eye and I still have the bruise from it today lol

My cursive-scribble is tangible for a day (a week at best). But my friends adore it

What is your favorite lunch meat?

Any type of meat works!

Do you have kids?

Heavens, no! But I would like to in the near future 

If you were a different person would you be friends with you?

Maybe I would, but the different me has to be bold enough to approach the current me to make friends first!

Sarcasm, not really. But roasting people, yes

I notice their way of interacting with people, to their style of fashion they wear and from there I decide how to best approach them.

There was so much Yo-Kai Watch merchandise I barely knew existed in North America. Things like the medals and plushies were everywhere back then. But I don't have any memory of coming across these treats.

Then again, I never saw a box of Super Mario Cereal in any of the stores I've visited in my youth. (Even the ones that aren't Amiibo.) So maybe the Yo-Kai Watch gummies were scarce in my territory. It's either that or they always got sold out before I could find some...

One of the saddest parts about YKW being discontinued in the west...

REVIEW: Yo-kai Watch Gummies

After months of searching and refusing to pay ridiculous prices online, I finally found them today in a Spencer's Gifts: YO-KAI WATCH GUMMIES! They had both regular and sour, but I don't like sour candy so I grabbed the regular bag. I was probably more excited to try these than I was about anything else I bought today!

Let's get started! The pictures aren't going to be a perfect quality because they're gummies--the faces and details are never printed correctly on fruit snacks of any kind, so bear with me here.

As soon as I got these, I had to snap a picture. I was so excited to finally find them!

Our first Yo-kai are Jibanyan and Robonyan. Robonyan is cherry flavored, and Jibanyan is strawberry flavored.

Jibanyan's a little blurry, so here's another picture:

Blue Raspberry flavored Whisper! His eyes are a little weird, but since he doesn't have much in the way of facial features at all, he looks pretty good.

Komasan! Oh my apple-flavored swirls! Komasan is apple flavored, and his details actually look pretty good. You can see a lot of his body swirls and make out his eyebrows. I got a second Komasan that's facing the opposite direction and just decided to call it Komajiro.

Now that you've seen them, how do they taste?

I personally loved them and will buy them again. The other person that tried them thought they were too chewy and "nasty." The gummies are very, very chewy; if you have braces, you should NOT eat these, because they will rip them out from being so thick and sticky.

The flavors vary depending on which one. Jibanyan and Robonyan have a tart, strong taste. I couldn't taste any specific fruit with any of them, except with Robonyan that did taste a little like cherry, but very strong and tart. Apple and blue raspberry don't taste like those at all, they just taste like the same generic fruit flavoring that you would find in a box of TV show/cartoon character fruit snacks from a grocery store.

Are they worth it? Totally, they're a great snack food. My bag was $3.99, but I bought them in a mall so the price was higher than you'd probably find it in a grocery store or any other kind of store.

I only have a few complaints. Like I said, they all share the same "artificial fruit" flavor, and despite the bag's size, there's a very disappointing amount of gummies actually in it. The bag wasn't even half full. There was enough to fill the see-through window on the front of the bag, but they didn't go much higher than that.

I'll post a purchase link here, but do note that an incredibly lightweight item like this will cost a ridiculous amount with shipping. Whether or not you want to pay $10 for a bag of gummies is up to you, but I've read they're available at Toys R Us as well, in addition to the Spencer's Gifts I found them at.
