“Are you mad at Beatrice or something?” 

Ava jumps at the voice behind her, would’ve whacked Hans in the face had it not been for his expertly timed dodge. “What? No - of course not -” 

Hans cuts off her fluster with a raised eyebrow. “Then why have you been glaring at her all morning?” 

“I’m not glaring,” Ava mutters as she goes back to cleaning the already clean counter with her damp towel.

The ‘her’ in question is seated at the table she usually takes by the window, book in hand like always on the weekends. Unlike the weekdays, Beatrice lets herself linger, lets herself loosen: hair pulled back in a bun but not as tight, evidenced by the handful of strands she reaches up to tuck behind her ear every few minutes. The ends of her hair brush the side of her neck where the subject of Ava’s not-glaring sits, red and prominent.  

It had been a surprise to notice the mark when Beatrice had stepped up to the counter to ask for her usual weekend order (a lavender London Fog that Ava had convinced her to try several weeks ago because you deserve to treat yourself, Bea and, to Ava’s giddy delight, Beatrice hasn’t strayed from it since) but it’s not that Ava wasn’t happy for Beatrice, she was! Very happy for her! And proud of her for owning it, not hiding it, not hiding herself. 

Still. 

“I’m sorry to bother,” and Ava jumps a second time, Hans dodging her flying limbs yet again, and turns to find Beatrice at the counter with her beautiful, marred neck. It’s a good neck, Ava thinks; wonders how whoever left the mark had been able to restrain themselves to leaving only one. 

“It’s no bother at all,” Hans answers and Ava realizes she’d completely missed Beatrice’s request. Hans hands Beatrice a glass of water, then - to Ava’s utter horror - gestures towards Beatrice’s neck. “Wild night?” he asks grinning as he casts a not-so-subtle glance at Ava, who very barely keeps from kicking him.

Beatrice blinks, her hand rising up to the side of her neck. “Oh, this?” She laughs, wry, and screw kicking Hans in the shins, Ava’s going to strangle him because the last thing she wants is to hear this, to hear about someone else’s hands on Beatrice, someone else’s mouth - 

“We were training gi chokes at BJJ yesterday,” Beatrice explains, her eyes flitting from Hans to Ava. “My partner needed a bit of extra practice.” 

Ava blinks. “So it’s a gi hickey?” she blurts out before she realizes her mouth has opened. 

A laugh surprises its way past Beatrice’s lips. “I suppose,” she says. Frowns. “It’s not … inappropriate is it? I’m afraid I don’t have much, well, any experience with hickeys in general -”

Ava’s jaw goes slack and her mind goes blank for who knows how long - she recovers only by the sound of Hans’ snort behind her (she throws the damp towel on the counter behind her without looking and hears the satisfying slap and muffled gasp when it lands on Hans’ face). “I mean, I’d take you out to dinner first.” 

Beatrice nods fervently, somehow even redder than before. The blush climbs up her neck, the mark there blending in, as if washed away.

homestuck is one of the best pieces of media of all time for plurality and i fuckin mean it. no shot do not pass go i have NEVER seen anything that is more built from the ground up to Support plural reads. like, to the point where it feels impossible to read homestuck without it.

as a work dealing with two huge primary themes of a) finding yourself/identity/growing up, and b) ideas coming to life, plurality is pretty much the Perfect intersection between the two of them. like.

take rose for example.

rose is plural and it's great.

when the doomed timeline evaporates, future dream rose does not actually "cease to exist." she ceases to exist as her own person -- her memories, experiences, personality, thoughts (or, as shorthand, her selfstuff) all flows back into rose prime. and that experience is just something rose has to roll with. one becomes two -- that other rose is still in her mind.

jade's plural and it's great.

when her dream self awakens as jadesprite, jade has a horrific argument with her. if you're plural i'm sure you understand. fighting with an age-regressed version of you, stuck in a traumatic past, who WONT FUCKING LISTEN -- we've all . been there.

she has involuntary barks, she can't stop seeing images of fire, she wants to go back to nonexistence but she doesnt want to die and it's torture,

COOL. I WILL SPOIL EVERYTHING. LIKE OVERLY DETAILED OVERANALYSIS

Alright so we start in the year 1957, where a man is being tortured. Because that's what happened in 1957, apparently.

This is secret Agent Curt Mega, we love him. He's arrogant, kinda an ass, but he's good at his job.

So the person torturing him is trying to figure out where the blueprints he stole had gone. Curt doesn't give him much information, and the man gives up. He goes "personal history does have it's benefits, Mega" all silly and shit, and then he shoots his assistant in the legs and helps Curt free. This is Agent Owen Carvour of MI6, the most british bitch you've ever fucking met. He is amazing, we love him (probably even more than Curt).

So the two men hatch a plan to escape the compound while and absolutely amazing opening number plays in the background. They start their escape, Curt's drinking because he doesn't really care too much. He also eats a banana, super harmless, and sets the bomb to go off for 3 minutes instead of the agreed upon 4, less smart.

So Curt and Owen get caught, they're running up the stairs and suddenly-

OWEN TRIPS ON THE BANANA AND FALLS OFF THE BALCONY

so yeah, super harmless banana.

We flash forward to 1961, a now bearded Curt is getting a mission briefing. We learn from his informant he hasn't been in the field in 4 years since Owen fell. Curt sings a song about getting off his ass after becoming a shell of himself. Spy again it's who I am doesn't even matter if I killed my best friend, and all that shit.

The next scene we meet a few new characters. Sergio, who's selling a bomb that Curt needs to stop, and the Deadliest Man Alive, who we'll be seeing a lot of. We also meet someone we'll later learn to be Tatiana, a russian, who's doing the same thing as Curt.

They sing a great song about bombs and date nights and shit until Curt comes in to stop the arms deal. When Curt comes down, The DMA turns to him and tries to shoot him before going "this ain't over between you and me" before running off. Sergio gives them the bomb now that the DMA is gone. Tatiana comes over to Curt and tries to take the bomb away, kicking him in the balls before running off with the bomb. Luckily for Curt, he got where she was staying

He goes back to the agency where we meet Cynthia Houston, his boss, who talks about the deadliest man alive and his mission. We also meet Barb, who gives Curt cool spy gadgets before he leaves. She has a very obvious crush on him during this entire show btw.

So Curt goes off to Tati's hotel and basically just tries to get with her for the mission and fails because of Mr Dick Big, what a name. They finally get their time alone and Tati tells him she's not working for the Russians, which surprises Curt. They go up to her room, but they get stopped by the deadliest man alive. It was all a trap to get Curt to fall into their plan.

We meet one of the villains! BARON VON NAZI. He's a silly guy who keeps glitter up his sleeves but he's also... yknow a nazi. He sings a silly song about how people villainize the nazi's and it's all kinda uncomfortable but the song is painfully catchy. They explain their plan to kill a new prince from a republic being formed. Then on that land they're going to build a "nazi super castle" and take over the world.

Curt thinks this is all crazy, and then he's left alone with the DMA. Ahhh Torture Tango, I don't think I can really describe this scene

So Tatiana comes in and saves Curt, but the DMA gets one shot on Curt.

Act 2! We're at the gala in whatever the countries called idk how to spell it and we get MY BOY VANDER SINGING AN AMAZING SONG WE LOVE THE PRINCE MY BELOVED <3

It's revealed that the prince is just the worst, everyone kinda hates him. he's a big dumbass, pretty much. and so Curt comes out, Cynthia's pissed because he was told to abandon the mission and disobeyed, and then not only did she fire him on the spot, he then went up and tried to tell everyone the prince was about to die, and so of course the DMA and Baron shoot the prince.

Tatiana grabs Curt to get him out of there, and then brings him to his mothers safe house. Mrs Mega is great, top tier mom. Overly obsessed with her sons love life, but she's great. So Curt and Tatiana have a conversation about their lives, Tatiana reveals her family history and how she's on the run from the Russians, while Curt talks about the night he lost Owen and how afraid he's been since then.

Tati and Curt kiss. They hate it. Curt's gay! Tati is chill about it, THEY'RE BESTIES AND LOVELY!

Anyways now Curt, Tatiana, Barb, and the Informant all go and drink before their big mission to stop the Nazi's. So they go back to the country I forget the name of, and the informant disguises himself as one of the diplomates and infiltrates their meeting. They all sign this document that gives the land to the Nazi's, and then Curt and Tati come in. The DMA stabs the Baron in the back (literally) and the we get the reveal.

The Deadliest Man Alive goes behind the curtain, takes off his mask, and is revealed to be Owen Carvour, Curt's partner from 4 years ago.

Owen begins to explain his evil plan, his group, Chimera, needs to mine for silicon to make their archival system which will reveal all the words secrets. Owen shoots the informant and runs off, expecting Curt to follow me. Tatiana goes to destroy the base and Curt goes after Owen

Another scene I can't explain and that you just need to watch for yourself

Curt comes back and works to take down Chimera, and that's where the show ends

European parliament mandates: this is where you vote for a party and their percentage decides how many ppl they get to sent to the EP. across europe this year the far right has gained massive ground, in hungary the nazi party got 6,8 percent, and we have no leftists or even so called liberals in there anymore.

local elections: this is conplicated. if you live in the country you voted for your city/towns mayor, and a representative onto the city council. if you live in budapest you voted for the mayor of the district you live in, a representative onto the district council, a party in the city council elections (based on percentage they can send an amount of representatives into city council) and the lord mayor of budapest

so the current, and likely future (SWEEP!!) lord mayor of budapest is Karácsony Gergely. hes a centre left politician, and while i disagree w a lot of his policies hes a MAJOR improvement on our previous mayor. ive been volunteering for various ngos and volunteer groups for a long time now and karigeri is always very amenable to working with us, under his time homelessness hasnt like, improved but he stopped putting homeless people in jail for being homeless, and removed a lot of hostile architecture in parks. also he recently worked out a massively beneficial deal for monthly transport passes which i wont get into but its cool. anyway like, the guy isnt the greatest is what im trxing to say but hes done shit that i support and being an activist in budapest is easier w him as the mayor

I loved writing Richie this whole chapter. I think it was just nice to write the way he'd act if he had someone to protect at The Bear. And also writing a softer landing for him out of that fucking freezer fight, that was yknow, that was a little treat for me. cats can have a little slami.

Alright y'all wanted my thoughts on the TGAMM finale and I've finally composed myself to say something about it so here I go

(Obvious spoilers ahead)

Before you ask, I'll give a short opinion on Jinx vs. The Human World: it was alright. I think they did pretty well considering the show got booted from a Season 3 and they had to wrap up a lot of the major plot stuff in Season 2 pretty quickly. It's definitely not the best episode of the series, and I prefer Molly vs. more, but it's grown on me. And also Back to Misery slaps.

But now let's talk about The End, the reason you're probably reading this.

I have a lot of confusing feelings about The End. I don't necessary think it was a bad episode per say, but I'm not sure I think it was the best finale for the show either.

I was never really for the theory of Scratch being Todd's wraith to begin with, and it just never reallh appealed to me, but The End really turned me over to it. They played it out very well and I'm glad they nailed that part. I don't think it was necessarily the best direction they could've gone in (I would've liked for Scratch to, yknow, actually be dead lol), but considering that was the route they wanted to go down, they absolutely killed it and I'm glad they did.

One thing I'm not as happy about though is the actual ending. For a show built around friendship, why destroy the main friendship the show was built around? I don't get it. The show's whole basis is unlikely friends battle their struggles together, so why on earth would you want to ditch that basis at the last second? There are shows out there (ex. Amphibia) who have stories that end up going in the direction where the main duo has to say their goodbyes, which is fine, but TGAMM was not one of those shows, and I'm lowkey upset that's what they resorted to. The theme song even talks about how they're gonna be best friends for all eternity. It defeats the whole purpose of what the show was supposed to be, and it pisses me off. It felt way too weird and out of place that they did that. I'm not a fan. At all.

Everything else was great though. Maybe Next Time makes me cry every time I listen to it, and I'm probably never gonna eat a funnel cake in the same way again.

Final thoughts on Gundam: The Origin

I think I went into Origin without any real expectations. I maybe thought it would be entirely Char focused? but in the latter half it shifted to a more general "what's goin on with this war" type vibe. I guess it accomplishes what it sets out to do: give us more backstory on how the war from 0079, fleshing out the the politics around it and the characters who partake. There were some wild things happening but mostly it was a lotttt of people talking about War. Felt kind of like a lorebook rather than an actual story, especially for the latter half, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Up Next!* MS Team, Thunderbolt, and War in the Pocket (side stories that took place during the events of 0079) Looks like Thunderbolt is a movie but the other two are series so this is going to be infinitely easier to schedule time to sit down and watch.

Love Sea + Special Live Blogging

I was pretty invested in Prapai/Sky in Love In The Air even when I was frustrated by their storyline, so I'm really curious to see how this show is for them. I know bits and pieces of this show (writer with a writer's block, puppy Fort..., a side GL that everybody was annoyed with and that apparently didn't get resolution?) and I'm curious to see how it goes, I think I've seen generally good reception even if people think the story's a bit of a mess.

I'm watching this right now because I have a week of iQiyi free VIP, though I'm sure that I'll have to just note the timestamps of NC scenes and watch those later, not trying to watch it all on the subway lol

Overall:

Mahasamut and Park Gunwook are not the same, they don't have the same personalities, but some of Mut's puppy behaviours and general mannerisms... also his age gap relationship with an older person... cute round face with built body... oh man.

Anyway.

A fine enough show, I think the dynamic and characters were interesting and the show/relationships threads were good for the main couple, especially the class difference rich/poor conversations and how their dynamic evolved. I think my SkyPrapai might still be my preferred FortPeat roles, which again makes no sense, but this one was a welcome addition, especially because during LITA I kept thinking Sky should've been the older one while Pai was supposed to be a younger puppy. On that note, thank you forever for all the puppy/dog Mut.

Unlike most people who were so over the side-GL, I was actually quite into Vie/Mook (esp because they have some tropes I enjoy, such as celeb/non-celeb and one person makes their crush do chores/errands) and kept hoping for... something to happen, for their dynamic to progress. Was there a scene of them making up cut in the last episode or something?? They didn't get a proper ending, which is sad. Vie was also such a good friend to Rak, I don't know why she was such a terror with Mook and then never progressed past it.

The drama of it was... okay, I guess. I get why Rak's father was such a menace (greedy bastard) but why was Prin doing all that beyond just jealousy? I do agree with the general consensus that the island episodes were better.

A cute special overall. It's about Rak and Mut's progress and lives together in the future and how they've met each other in the middle rather than random drama. Vie and Mook are cute too, it makes me sad that their story wasn't given a proper conclusion in the original series. Also, I wanna go on vacation so bad.

How exactly did you come to love TLOU? I have my own special interests that just happened upon me, so I want to know about how it was for others. also, any other games that you like?

you've asked the golden question so strap in because this is gonna be LONG:

i first got into tlou through part 2! admittedly i didn't play the og first. i did own it at the time because it seemed like one of those games you just gotta play (and i was right) and yknow ellie's gay and i dug that, but at that point i hadn't played it but knew the plot through a cinematic compilation video.

i was intrigued by part 2, specifically because of the teaser at e3 where ellie and dina dance and kiss. though i didn't have a BURNING desire to have the game, me being down for anything gay pretty much what sealed my fate. so i bought the game and played it on my older brother's ps4.

and MAN, was i obsessed pretty much immediately. looking back, it was a fever dream, just me playing the game from the moment i woke up to the moment i went to bed, nonstop...until i reached the point where ellie leaves and i stopped playing, completely distraught, and ended up watching the ending on youtube.

i was pissed, conflicted, legit fell into a deep depression after knowing how the game ends. after that point, because as we all know the shitstorm over the game was not pretty, i lingered on both sides of the fanbase for a while. because as someone who went in for the gay and had to witness the gay be destroyed, i was hurt -- but i realized after seeing anti-tlou2 people talk about their (weird and irrational) reasons for hating the game that i didn't hate the game, i was just that. hurt.

but the game is meant to hurt. there's a reason for the hurt.

and once i looked past the hurt that i felt, i analyzed hardcore, discussed with people (this is the nicest environment to do so), ate up every single detail discovered, replayed, and then i was making art, obsessively so, writing fanfiction, and now it's been 3 years and those fictional fuckers still live in my brain to this day.

and of course, i dove into the og! i remember playing the game while my online lectures (because covid lol) played in the background.

tlou is fully my biggest hyperfixation/special interest to date. i went into how but here's more of the reasons behind it:

i've talked about this a ton before but i love that though tlou has a reputation of being a dark game and people tend to read it as being about "the darkness of humanity", it's really not about that, but love and what people will do for it, as well as seeking and obtaining a purpose, even in the world's darkest conditions.

i love that it's about found family, that joel can't help but love ellie, because at the end of the day, he's not really supposed to be the heartless person he wants to pretend he is, but he's supposed to be a DAD. i love that ellie, despite never knowing the feeling of a parent, loves joel right back. i love that despite disliking him at first, she warms to him so quickly and she wears him down with her stupid jokes and her endearing weirdness.

i love that the themes of love persist through the second game even as it drags the franchise to darker places. that these are the lengths that ellie will go to not to get abby, but for joel. i love that part 2 says, "hey these bitches unhealthy" and that despite love being their motivation (abby for her dad, ellie & tommy for joel, dina for ellie, lev for his mother), it shouldn't be driving them to those ends!!!!

.....anyway for your second question, i'm picky about games but some recurring favs are apex legends, minecraft, breath of the wild, stardew valley, life is strange (watched the playthru only but loved the story sm), tell me why, and i just started horizon zero dawn! the way things are going, i think i'll like it a lot :)

🔮 Any advice for writers working through burnout or writer’s block?

!!!! Yes, absolutely.

I have three main approaches to this for myself, and I know everyone's brains and writing habits are different so yknow like take it or leave it or modify it to your own needs but here's three things I always fall back on when I'm stuck.

Be kind to yourself.

Be honest with yourself. Is there a reason the writing needs to be done NOW? You are not a machine. If it's not there, it's not there. Obviously this doesn't apply if you have deadlines to meet but if you're writing for fun, don't get so twisted up about it that it's not fun anymore. WHAT ARE WE DOIN HERE FELLAS?! It's okay to take a break and recover until it feels right again, you don't have to fill a quota.

Set extremely small goals.

I try to write 100 words a day because I have ADHD and I get crazy burnout and/or I go into creative frenzies where I binge write for 3 days and don't do the dishes. There's a balance in here somewhere lol. An easy goal and a routine can help a lot. 100 words is a joke. But there are days where it's a HUGE struggle. But it's still doable, and I walk away feeling like I chiseled away at the idea a little bit.

I can't stress enough that you can't push yourself THROUGH burnout, and this can go to any type of burnout. (I feel this way about house keeping too LOL). You're drawing from an empty well. Be honest with yourself, be kind to yourself, set a realistic goal. If you're burnt out you're not gonna sit down and crank out 2k in an evening, you just aren't, and if you try to force it you're just gonna feel worse when you can't do it. Be gentle. Make easy goals. Ease yourself back into it.

And don't forget, sometimes chiseling away is just exactly what you need to do. I sometimes go weeks where I put in 100 words at a time on a fic and then finally I make it through the hard part and 6k floods out of me all at once. Chiseling away is good. You will find your way back when you get through the hard part.

(Also, even if you're chiseling away with garbgae & nonsense, that's okay! You can edit it later! A sloppy first draft is better than no draft!)

Refill the well.

Speaking of drawing from an empty well; creativity requires an input and an output, imo. That's my personal opinion!! Sometimes you need to take a break and work on the input stream, too. Take a week where you watch a movie every night instead of trying to write. Reread a book from an author you admire. Stare at some paintings. Listen to your headphones in the dark, whatever the fuck it is !

You're running on empty! And it's not just the basic human energy to function! It's the creativity! It's the inspiration! If you're writing a fic, revisit the source! Remind yourself why you like it! If a movie or song or picture gave you the idea for your fic, go back to that! Absorb it, replenish yourself!!!!!

I know sometimes when I talk writing stuff that I speak about it more like, idk philosophically? And I know others might have technical advice, like write scenes out of order, change the font, sit in a different area of the house, find a friend to cheerlead! All of those things can work, too, and I try them sometimes. ((I have more to say about this and about how outlines are my lord & savior when writing with ADHD and trying to chisel away a scene at a time)) But like, all of that I think is a bit secondary to just being kind to yourself and taking care of your mental health first and getting yourself back into a place where you CAN be creative and find that drive again.

My life would be a fucking shambles if I couldn't make lil routines for myself with the ADHD and Brain Problems and whatnot and I leave myself an hour every day to write, right before bedtime! 9-10pm every night I'm CLOCKIN IN! And for me it's like a lil reward at the end of the day, so that I can like unwind, end the day, stop worrying about whatever else I didn't get done, etc. Making space for it as a fun activity and a reward is essential for me, and I still get stuck sometimes, but going back to these ideas helps me a lot!!!!!!!!!!!

Another ask about French Pepzi (if that's the ship name we're going with)

Pepper loooooves to fluster her partners at any chance she gets. She just thinks it's really funny to see their faces get all red with just a couple of words. And she won't admit it, she finds it pretty cute too.

But whenever Mitzi and Clement try to fluster Pepper, it ends up backfiring somehow. It just doesn't work on her no matter how hard they try. They both have no idea how to fluster her until her friends make some offhand comments

"Fluster her? Oh, that's easy, just complement her looks!"

"No... I think they're going with seeing her visibly flustered, she's too good at hiding it if you just complement how she looks."

"Oh! Oh! Just make her complement herself! She can't stand it!"

So basically what her friends tell the two is that whenever Pepper tells a self deprecating joke, they won't leave Pepper alone until she says something nice about herself. And since it takes awhile for her to do that (she's very stubborn) they decide to speed up the process. Yeah, they kind of just tickle her until she finally says something

Mitzi and Clement just look at each other and shrug. Yeah there's probably many other ways, but they're desperate okay??? Leave them alone >:(

So next time Pepper says something like "I'm telling you, Clement. I can't learn another language to save my life, I'm just too dumb for any of it to stick!" All it takes is a poke to the stomach that she knows what's gonna happen, she's been through this many times before with her friends. So yeah, they do that while Clement and Mitzi are just like "just say you're smart, and we'll stop."

Pepper ends up finally going "OKAY, OKAY, I'M SMART!" And those two let her go, letting her catch her breath. And sure enough, Pepper's face is bright red, about damn time. (They know there were easier ways but they did it! And that's what matters)

Once Pepper can talk again she says "You guys are jerks..." Clement and Mitzi give her a kiss on each cheek and says that she had it coming.

(Pepper is definitely plotting against her friends once she learns that they exposed her)

Ahhh yes this is exactly how to get through to Pepper. Forcing her to make the compliments herself ^^ But at the same time that’s kinda said cuz- yeah, yknow.

It works for Clement and Mitz though. Getting Pepper to appreciate herself (though who knows how long that will take) And they get a cute reaction out of her.

The thing is, Pepper makes those jokes a lot anyway, it’s kind of a habitual thing. So she gets “attacked” like that quite frequently. She tries to amp it cause she secretly likes the attention cause she hopes it gets to the point her partners will eventually get tired of their techniques, but she’s surprised by how determined they are at it.

Betcha that learning language thing is her being jealous of how ambitious Zoe is to want to learn a new language just for the fun of it.

What if Clement and Pomela started teaching Mitz and Pepper French too??? Idk, I think it’d be cute. But then it might expand into a whole class or something lol.
