Another one of my sunflowers is about to bloom
Thanks to leftovers from the staff meeting yesterday, I had second breakfast for the second day in a row at work.
I think I figured out a new system at work? We'll see how well it holds when shit hits the fan inevitably.
Two of my cosplay pieces are on their way!

@nikkisrandomthingsfan replied to your post “just say no to the powerful autumnal propaganda machine...”
Our winters here in New York aren't quite that intense but they are bad enough. I completely understand.
Our winters aren’t always intense (though sometimes YIKES!!) but they are loooonng. And I actually like winter. If it only lasted two months, I would LOVE it! :)
lurkdusoleil replied to your post “@darrenismydarcy replied to your post: just say no...”
Wednesday was 90F degrees. Yesterday was 65F Today was 50F. It got down in the 30sF last night.
Riah! You made this poor Canadian do conversions; I had to do math to know how bad that was!!! But now that I have... YIKES! We haven’t hit below zero here yet. But the frost is in the air... **slow, ominous cello music with prerequisite chimes tinkling in the background**
@whatstheproblembaby replied to your post “just say no to the powerful autumnal propaganda machine...”
Being cold is garbage and no one needs it.
I’m fine once the cold weather settles in, but I am such a wimp when the warmth begins to leach out of the air. And I am a gardener. I like green growing things and warm breezes on my face while sip endless cups of tea on my kitchen steps. **sigh**
#nikkisrandomthingsfan#lurkdusoleil#whatstheproblembaby#sam rages in a futile war against the dying of the light... and warmth

Songs of Ice and Fire: Stark satellite images show how wildfires continue to rage across the Arctic
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Stretches of the Arctic, Siberia, Alaska and Greenland have ongoing to burn up soon after a amount of wildfires have been fuelled by unusually very hot temperatures.
Blazes frequently burst out in the locations when lightning strikes and scorches the earth, but this year it has been amplified owing to over normal warmth brought about by climate adjust.
The intense unfold of the fires have been spearheaded by dry floor, hotter than standard temperatures, as well as lightning and robust wind.
It has also been assisted by combustible forest floor – created up mainly of dried peat.
The destruction has been documented by imaging expert Pierre Markuse, who transforms grainy uncooked satellite visuals into higher-fidelity snapshots.
The photographs expose the breadth of fires – which are blanketing expanses of wilderness underneath shrouds of smoke.
According to the World Meteorological Business (WMO), the scope of Arctic wildfires are ‘unprecedented,’ with the company logging much more than 100 extreme illustrations all over the Arctic Circle.
Fires have been raging the toughest in the Arctic and Siberia, the WMO stated, and ended up significant adequate to constitute 100,000 soccer pitches – about the sizing of Lanzarote.
A satellite picture demonstrates the fire peaks in excess of Siberia on Thursday and the substantial plumes of smoke they have produced. The fires int he Arctic Circle have afflicted an place the dimension of 100,000 soccer pitches
This month, temperatures hit document highs for Alaska, soaring to 90F (32C) on July 4 – fuelling fires together the Yukon River and the Arctic Circle.
The Nationwide Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration wrote in a current blog post: ‘Alaska has just appear to the stop of a period of time of warmth that re-wrote the record guides for numerous cities and communities across the condition.
‘And mad sufficient, it was a single of many jaw dropping local climate activities taking area throughout our largest condition.’
Pierre Markuse utilizes a range of strategies to boost satellite images. The outcomes are significant fidelity portraits of Earth’s landscape and the organic occasions that condition it. Pictured: ‘Swan Lake Fire’, 5 mile northeast of Sterling, Alaska
Smoke not only endangers people’s respiratory wellbeing, it can blanket ice and snow in the Arctic, foremost to improved soften. Pictured: Many wildfires in excess of Alaska, west of Fairbanks, Alaska
In Greenland, fires sprouted up past 7 days, marking only the second time in 3 years wildfires have been witnessed there.
There is really little historic precedent for fires to go on on the icy territory, in accordance to Gizmodo, but dangers of added kinds in Greenland stay high to very high during the up coming week.
Even with the fires primarily ravaging wasteland, its result has widened as smoke has blown around cities in Russia, which has drastically minimized the air good quality.
Inspite of the fires largely ravaging wasteland, its effect has widened as smoke has blown in excess of metropolitan areas in Russia (pictured, Kemerovo, south Siberia, yesterday), lessening the air excellent

In Greenland (Qeqqata Kommunia fireplace, pictured), fires sprouted up previous 7 days, marking only the next time in a few yrs wildfires have been witnessed there
The smog has even arrived at the Tyumen location in western Siberia – six time zones away from the east coastline fires.
In addition to blanketing the location in smoke and razing acres of trees, wildfires also pour important carbon into the environment.
That carbon can have considerable impacts on weather change states the WMO.
Humans are also at immediate hazard, even individuals that stay much away from in which the blazes keep on to smoulder.
The WMO mentioned: ‘In addition to the direct menace from burning, wildfires also release damaging pollutants including particulate matter and toxic gases these as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and non-methane natural and organic compounds into the atmosphere.
(pictured, Sakha Republic, Russia, on July 22)
‘Particles and gases from burning biomass can be carried in excess of long distances, impacting air top quality in locations far absent.’
Previous thirty day period alone, the fires set out around 50 megatonnes of carbon dioxide, which is about the same as what Sweden makes yearly.
Fires in the Arctic Circle are recurrent between May well and October and the ecosystem has tailored to them, according to the Alaska Facilities site.
Fires in the Arctic (photographs, Qeqqata Kommunia, Greenland) are frequent among May well and October and the ecosystem has adapted to them, in accordance to the Alaska Facilities web page
But the depth of these fires, as nicely as the big location they have taken up, make these uncommon.
The WMO in a statement: ‘Although wildfires are popular in the northern hemisphere in between Could and Oct, the latitude and intensity of these fires, as effectively as the size of time that they have been burning for, has been significantly uncommon.’
In a shocking go, Russia (pictured, a hearth burns in the Mirninsky District of the Sakha Republic) is not tackling the fires, arguing it would be more high priced to quell the fireplace than shell out for the damages triggered
Climatologists are using satellites to follow the fires as they burn across the Arctic Circle.
They warn the fires pose a significant hazard to snow and ice: as fires rage, permafrost melt can speed up causing glaciers to drop into the ocean.
In addition to contributing to sea level rise, gurus alert that methane fuel trapped in the ice will also be released by the ice soften, further compounding the difficulty.
HOW ARE WILDFIRES Started?
The amount of land in North The usa devastated by wildfires every single 12 months is set to increase, in accordance to new research (file photo)
The ‘Thomas Fire’ ruined 281,893 acres in California last December.
In addition, British Columbia’s Nazko Complicated Hearth previous year consumed far more than a million acres, generating it the greatest ever recorded in the province.
But the total of land ruined by wildfires just about every 12 months will only go up in western and northern North The usa in the yrs to arrive, in accordance to a new report printed in the journal Plos A single.
Up to 90 p.c of US wildfires are prompted by people today, in accordance to the Insurance Data Institute.
These fires can be initiated by unattended campfires, piles of burning debris, haphazardly discarded cigarettes or arson.
The remaining tenth of wildfires not started by individuals are attributed to either lighting or lava.
In a surprising move, Russia is not tackling the fires, arguing it would be far more high-priced to quell the fire than pay for the damages caused.
The push support of the Krasnoyarsk Region forestry ministry advised a Siberian news web-site: ‘They do not threaten any settlements or the economic climate.’
But the government have confronted a backlash from the men and women, with the hashtags #putouttheSiberianfires and #saveSiberianforests trending on Twitter.
One Twitter person wrote: ‘Remember how far the information about the Notre Dame fireplace distribute? Now is the time to do the identical about the Siberian forest fires.’
A further extra: ‘Let’s not fail to remember that nature is no significantly less critical than background. Several animals have missing their households, and lots of of them are probably useless. Just thinking about this is distressing.’

Wednesday night things
Went to workout tonight but the tank was empty. Did a 5 minute warmup run on the treadmill, then leg presses (no squat rack), and was about to start on... whatever. But I was done, so I came home. Yesterday was the first day it hit 90F here (a few weeks later than normal). Tonight, as if by clockwork, the trees are alive with the sound of cicadas. Ah summertime, how quickly you arrive! So hungry today. I think for the same reason I bombed out of my workout; I'm either too tired or underfueled - I suspect the latter seeing as how much I upped training last week. I sent my resume off yesterday to a group I used to have as an internal client at a previous job. I'm not 100% sure it's a good fit, but it would be nice to see what they have in mind (and it's always good to rehearse interviewing). Time for me to hit the sack. See you all tomorrow!

I am sooooo tired!
See, yesterday I had to rescue a snake from the dogs and it turned today into a slog.
We were about to go into town when I saw the dogs going nuts. There was a large corn snake in the side lot with Death and War. The dogs were lunging, the poor snake was striking, and how it would end up if I didn’t do something was obvious. They are not venomous snakes, so it really would have been defenseless. So I had Mom struggling to distract the dogs from outside the fence, gorging them on treats actually, while I raced to get in there. I got the snake lifted out with a limb (hey, it would have bitten me too) and it seemed to be fine as it slithered off. All done, except....
The dogs in the other lot had tried to dig in to get at the snake, and boy did they dog a trench.
So today was digging gravel, hauling it in sacks back from the other house, and hoisting it into the dog lot. I did take an hour “break” to walk out and pick wild blueberries. That was a bit foolish, not just because it turned out to be another 90F day, but I had to race to finish getting the gravel in the lot as a storm blew up. A Collinsport storm (Dark Shadows ref) all thunder and lightening when we least needed it. For reasons to long to get into it turned out I couldn’t take the bags of gravel through the gate but had to haul them over the top if a six foot ladder to get across the fence. And the bags were too full to lift, so Mom was rushing to try shovel some of the gravel into other bags to make it managable and I’m reaching over the top as far as I can to try to grab the top of the bags to hoist over....
KA-BOOOOOOM!!!!
Mom was shoveling as fast as she could. I was testing the limits of what I can lift at that angle. The dogs were “helping” tugging at my boots and jeans. And this weird rainless storm was raging.
It got done, and we didn’t get hit hit by lightning, but geez I’m tired. Time run the airconditioner, flop and finally have lunch.....

Harvey is Back!
Good Morning Everyone.
Harvey is back, and it is right in our backyard! The National Hurricane Center upgraded Harvey back to a Tropical Depression this morning. Over the past few days, Harvey’s remnants have crossed the Western Caribbean & the Yucatan Peninsula, and moved into the Bay of Campeche yesterday afternoon. Conditions are ripe for intensification in the Gulf of Mexico for Harvey, with Sea Surface Temperatures in the 85F to 90F range, which is roughly 2C above normal for this time of the year. On top of that, an upper level high is setting up over the system which will protect Harvey from wind shear & allow it to ventilate. As a result, it’s no surprise that Harvey has become a tropical cyclone again in less than a day after crossing back into the Gulf of Mexico.
Over the next few days, Harvey is going to move to the NW along the western periphery of the sub-tropical ridge towards the central Texas Coast, where there is a weakness. Along the way, Harvey will continue to enjoy favorable conditions for gradual strengthening. Computer guidance is in good agreement on this scenario, showing the possibility of Harvey attaining Hurricane status before landfall. With such favorable conditions, it is likely that Harvey will be a strengthening system when it makes landfall in Texas early on Saturday.
The big story with Harvey won’t be the wind. The big story will be heavy flooding rain for Texas, and eventually Louisiana. Complicating matters even more, will be several days of strong, onshore flow piling up water along the Texas & Louisiana Coastline. The reason why is after Harvey makes landfall on Saturday morning, steering currents are expected to break down over Texas, causing Harvey to slow down to a near halt somewhere between Houston & Corpus Christi. Computer Guidance is in excellent agreement that Harvey will drop widespread rainfall totals of over a foot of rain in SE Texas this weekend into Monday. What happens after is where things get murky.
What we do know is that early next week, a strong ridge of high pressure is expected to build in the Western US, along with a trough digging into the Mississippi River Valley. How exactly this effects Harvey’s long range track and intensity is still not clear, but will become clearer over the next couple of days. The general idea though is that by early next week, Harvey will begin an eastward motion towards Louisiana. Whether Harvey gets back into the Gulf of Mexico will significantly impact its intensity when it does move into our state. But what we do know is that Harvey will also impact Louisiana with flooding rain & storm surge next week, with the western half of the state getting hit hardest with rainfall.
Now is the time to go over your hurricane preparedness plan, and basic preparations. Harvey will begin impacting our area with squalls on Friday, and this will continue into this week into early next week until the system crosses our area & finally moves out. So today or Thursday would be a good time to clean out your gutters and storm drains, because this could be quite an extended rainfall event for our area. I’ll continue to post updates as details become more clear.
-Dylan

I have a dryer again
Today, I ran home over lunch to meet the repairman for my dryer. I was given a 4 hour window, but they were surprisingly on time, with almost no waiting. I think the housing office likes me. Anyhow, the repairman replaced the control panel, and then cleaned the rest of the internal components. Those of you keeping score at home will note that this is the third control panel to die in my appliances. I must have the magic touch.
Then I went back to the office to swelter. Yesterday was hot and humid. Today hotter and less humid (right around 90f). I felt a bit funny yesterday, not being able to cool down. And then all day today, I had an off and on calf cramp. Figuring I was dehydrated, with an electrolyte imbalance, I chugged 2 Gatorades. Then, before leaving work, the thunderstorms hit and cooled things down for at least an evening.
Since it was late when I left work, and it was pouring, I didn’t want to walk up the street for groceries. I stopped at Aldi instead, since they have a small parking lot. I don’t go to Aldi much, so I’m always intrigued and willing to try things they have that are slightly different. In Germany, the Aldis tend to have a pretty good packaged cheese and deli meat selection. I also had a surprisingly decent packaged steak, even though Aldi meats generally cause me some hesitation.
Hopefully the rain causes the heat to break for a few days.

Hmmmm, to saw or not to saw. Reasons for "Not": 1) Pain. I'm sore as heck from yesterday, my eyes are burning from hours of staring up at the sky (with sunglasses, but that only does so much good), I'm sunburned, and covered in bruises. 2) Heat. It's in the mid 80sF today, and I'm not used to working in the heat yet. It will be cooler again in a few days (not tomorrow though, that's gonna hit 90F maybe) 3) Less urgency. Yesterday I finished bringing down the biggest limb I intended to get. What's there is currently less threat to the roof. 4) Lots else to do. Don't make me list things or I'll get discouraged. Reasons for "To": 1) Not so much left to do. I could be finished with what I can do from the ladder in just a couple of days. I really want it done! 2) Things could become problems quickly. The limbs are sprouting and budding like crazy, and what doesn't seem like it endangers the tin roof now may in just a few days. 3) Debris to clear. I should go work there to clear up the stuff I cut down, and to even move that small tree sized limb will require lots of sawing. 4) Risk of leaving things. I have a tendency to get distracted on new tasks, and then have trouble restarting the old ones. If I shrug it off as okay for now, it might be left that way for a very long time. 5) Nature. Mine I mean. I get obsessive about finishing a job once I start. Assuming I don't get stopped. Yes those last two are sort of the same thing. Still, I guess I better go do a bit more..... UGH! Why do I have to be me? LOL
