I know this is such a doomer kind of attitude but I genuinely cannot stand it when people go around talking about the ‘silent majority’ when it comes to Jew hatred. There’s two main problems I have with this statement
— Sure, these people might support Jews now, but it’s probably safe to say the majority of people in the world have deeply ingrained biases against Jews. Those biases are easily exploited, easily brought out, and easily radicalised into rabid hatred. See: large swaths of leftist spaces, who honestly seemed like sleeper agents with how fast they openly admitted raping Jews is a moral thing. There’s also the issue of a lot of these silent majority people not supporting Hamas or believing in the Aryan race or thinking that Jews have no culture and we’re just stealing it from everyone else, but still tolerating those ideas being held in other people— it shows that these people neither understand nor care about the gravity of these views, which then makes those precious biases much, much easier to show
and
— The entire point of the silent majority is that they are silent. Sure, they might chat with their Jewish friends about how bad things are, they might express sympathy in private, things like that. But when push comes to shove, when Jews are being actively murdered wide scale, they don’t show up. They leave us in the dirt. They watch quietly as the Gestappo drags their neighbours away. They look away politely as their Dhimmi shopkeeper is beaten in the street for walking on the wrong side of the pavement. They close their blinds when their friend is tied to the stake and burned alive
I know it’s comforting to think of this vague concept of the silent majority, but it’s not actually reality. I know it sucks feeling like you need to have your guard up all the time (and you don’t, just be careful), it’s going to suck a whole lot more if you put yourself into a false sense of security. The silent majority are not our friends. The silent majority are not there for us. The silent majority don’t care. We can’t just live in a nebulous idea of people who quietly tut to themselves whenever they see someone saying ‘glory to the resistance’ or ‘Jews are trying to taint the Aryan race’, we need to focus on the tangible reality, and the people who are actually present
I think this is also why I, and so many other Jews, absolutely love non-Jewish allies. There’s something so indescribably amazing to see people in this world that’s been so horrible to us standing up for us, listening to us, helping us. Allies go through a lot of shit from others because they care about us, I’ve seen it so much— they’ll get vicious hate for just associating with Jews. And they still do it. They still stick with us. Because they care, and it’s just so wonderful
Spread the love to non-Jewish allies, you are so amazing. And to the silent majority, I hope you can become the help that we desperately need

Just found out there's a myth about Jesus of Nazareth and Judas Iscariot recorded in the Toledot Yeshu, an ancient Jewish biographical text about Jesus, in which they both fight over the Tetragrammaton (the Ineffable Name of God), which Jesus smuggles from the Temple by cramming it into his thigh, and then Judas and Jesus fight in the sky, both powered by the name of God, and then Judas literally masturbates (or at least urinates) all over Jesus and causes him to fall to the ground like Simon Magus.
Tumblr media
In context, there is an interesting angle where Jesus is alleged to have attained the signifiers of Messiah status through deceit or illicit means, or, like for Roman polytheist critics such as Celsus, he was essentially a magician in the classically perjorative sense; a practitioner of goeteia or mageia, acting not in the name of the "highest divine good" (God, in this case) but instead for his own self-interested goals. Apparently using the name of God to cure illness and banish demons was proof of that, at least insofar as the Toledot Yeshu takes this as being with the aim of establishing himself as the Messiah, and therefore the spiritual leader of Judaea. But of course, if the accusation is mageia or goeteia, then the only meaning this has is the moral designation of the terrain of magic in itself: in other words, it only matters insofar as someone says this brand of magic is wrong, because your goals are somehow incorrect or corrupt.
Judas' act of coitus occupies a strange dual poistion, wherein even though it aims to challenge and negate Jesus' claim to messianic power and stature, which is implied to be illegitimate and ill-gotten, it is still itself a blasphemy, a transgression, a "wrongful" intermingling of the sacred and profane - in this case, God with the activity of coitus and therefore the body at its basest. The legitimation and delegitimisation of divine authority, these are both contained within the human body and its activity in some way. The flipside of that is that from there we're to take this episode as evidence that, at least for a certain tradition of Judaism expressed within the Toledot Yeshu, the God-principle or sacredness is not supposed to merge with the "profane" world of corporeality or body, and that therefore to unite those two worlds is a sacrilege, a religious and moral transgression, and in a sense blasphemy.
There is also a strange similarity or at least a shared theme with the Orphic myth of the rebirth of Dionysus. You know the myth: Dionysus is born, he is supposed to inherit Zeus' throne, but Hera, hating this arrangement, had Dionysus killed by the Titans, and then Zeus discovers that the Titans had dismembered, cooked, and ate Dionysus' flesh and destroyed them, but, seeing that Dionysus' heart was still there, saved his heart and smuggled it in his thigh, and then Dionysus is born a second time. In Orphic terms Dionysus is frequently likened to spirit, or the spiritual nature of humans, which is tragically stuck in the corporeal form of the human body and the vice that it inherits from the Titans, whose ashes were used to make the human body. Whether tragically or blasphemously, the spirit-principle finds itself passing into the human body in a very similar way: through the thigh.
But anyway, props to Judas Isacriot, the world-class coomer whose seed caused Jesus to fall to the ground, thereby proving that cooming dispels the authority of God and is therefore based.

The Crucible of Transformation
Ego Death and Enlightenment in the Story of Yeshu’aIn the narrative of Yeshu’a, commonly known as Jesus Christ, the events leading up to and including the crucifixion and subsequent resurrection offer profound allegorical insights into the journey toward spiritual awakening and enlightenment. This narrative, when viewed through the lens of spiritual and psychological metamorphosis, echoes the…

Someone NEEDS to write a tragic black comedy story of the last days of Jesus.
Like a cross between the Life of Brian, the Toledot Yeshu, and the Last Temptation of Christ.
I think it would be incredible.
I don’t mean needlessly edgy, nihilistic, disrespectful crap.
I’m talking more like a darkly comic commentary on the nature of faith and all that kind of stuff.

I went to the Jewish quarter in Toledo today and I really don’t know how to feel. I’m part Sephardi, my ancestors most likely lived here at some point. I went to the Beit Knesset they would have went to, the oldest one in Europe, I think— it’s a museum now. Part of the floor was clearly new, and part of the floor was clearly ancient. I took a picture of the ancient part, the part that my ancestors would have also stepped on. There was a cross right under the two orange windows representing the Ten Commandments that Moshe brought down, and right next to that there were Christian murals of baby angels. It was beautiful, but there was such a tangible sadness to it, deadness, almost, that I couldn’t help feeling uncomfortable. The non Jewish tourists didn’t notice it, and that made me even more uncomfortable
There was a gift shop right next to the Beit Knesset. They were selling menorahs, not chanukias, seven-pronged menorahs— and all I could think of was ‘who is this for? Not for the Jewish tourists who come here, obviously, menorahs are for Beitei Knesset, not for home. Who is this for?’ It felt wrong. Later on, I saw the exact same menorahs in a different shop, a street away. This isn’t Judaica— Judaica isn’t mass produced like that, normally it’s handmade. It’s made with love, with care, it’s made with a Jewish touch. None of the items in this gift shop have a Jewish touch to them. Feeling like I was selling out my people, I bought a couple magen David magnets from there anyway
The Jewish part of Toledo feels… I’m not sure how to say it, but it’s like a remnant. You can tell that there was something before this, but that something is gone, it’s been wiped out. And that something was Jewish. And now it just drifts through this town, like dust, never properly gone but never enough than a vague feeling. And on top of all of that is a thick layer of Catholicism, and the knowledge of the brutality that brought this Jewish cultural centre to decimation
Toledo doesn’t really acknowledge what it did to its Jews. There’s a small square on the wall of a very old house, one that most certainly used to belong to a Jew before, that talks about Shmuel Levi, saying how he would rather have died by torture than become a confessor— they call him Samuel there, though, and I feel kind of stupid for how much I resent that. But that’s it. Instead they’re giving museum tours of the two Beite Knesset that used to exist before they were converted to being churches, and then war rooms, and now attractions. They’re selling Judaica that isn’t Judaica, right next to figures of Yeshu bleeding out on the cross. They’ve got small חי tiles on the corners of the street, but all I can think of is the Jews that were slaughtered in this town by the ancestors of the people who are now living in what were their houses
All I can think of is the pork being sold everywhere, and all the chametz people are eating before the sun sets on the last day of pesach
(sorry for the pretentious poetic language, I’m a writer I can’t help it)
Thank you for sharing this. There is something almost haunting about visiting places that were once Jewish but aren't anymore. I once saw a quote somewhere about how Memory is a sixth sense for Jewish people (I don't remember where I saw it but will try to find it again). Reading this reminded me of that.
I don't have many words of comfort. I actually don't live that far from Toledo. Our shul is tiny, but we have a kosher Torah from the time of the Inquisition. We outlived them.

holy crap I didn’t know Chabad was messianic… they send us (shitty) matzah every year
Shavua Tov!
I think I should clear some things up:
-When I say "Messianic" on *this* blog, I generally refer to the belief within Chabad that Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson is the Mashiach (a prophetic figure within Jewish scriptures that is said to bring about an age of prosperity and peace and end the Roman Exile), despite being dead since the 1990s.
-"Messianic Judaism" is something else entirely. It is a Christian denomination claiming to be Jewish. Their Messianism is the belief in Jesus of Nazareth is the Mashiach. Christianity stems from a Messianic cult during the Second Temple period that believed a Judean man named Yeshu (Jesus) was Mashiach.
Chabad is not a Christian denomination. Not at all. They are Jewish in origin and are still Jewish and regarded as such by the Jewish community by and large (except for a few fringe leaders). Even if they weren't considered Jewish, they would not be considered *Christian*.
I don't know if that's what you thought, anon, but I just wanted to clear that up.
I believe that Chabad is a cult within Judaism that displays Messianic beliefs about Rabbi Schneerson. They are completely different from "Messianic Judaism", which is a Christian denomination entirely and not at all related to Chabad.
Messianism as a term just refers to the belief in an end-of-times, utopian age, usually brought on by a single, named individual. This can be found within Christianity, famously, but can be found within any religious group, or really any group (accelerationist leftists, in my opinion, also display Messianic beliefs, for example).
