⚰️    ――――            IT  HAD  BEEN  A  LONG  JOURNEY  FOR  HAYLEY  ACROSS  THE  COUNTRY.  she  had  been  on  a  periless  search  for  another  werewolf  pack  that  her  and  tyler  had  caught  wind  of.  he  stayed  behind  while  she  continued  to  travel.  she  was  never  one  to  stay  in  one  place  for  very  long,  anyway.  she  needed  the  fresh  scenery,  the  new  people,  and  a  different  outlook  on  life.  she  knew  who  she  was,  that  was  for  sure,  but  now  she  had  a  new  purpose  in  life;  to  help  every  hybrid  in  need  that  had  been  chained  to  klaus'  will  and  every  whim.  that  was  no  way  to  live.  if  hayley  believed  in  anything,  it  was  freedom.  after  so  much  research  and  time  in  the  sun,  the  wolf  in  her  was  begging  to  get  her  teeth  into  something  full  of  protein  and  iron.  she  entered  into  a  restaurant  she  had  never  dined  in  before.  it  was  quaint,  unique,  and  hayley  always  loved  to  try  new  things.  she  was  greeted  by  one  of  the  workers  of  the  eatery     (    a  handsome  one  at  that    )    and  she  couldn't  help  but  grin  at  the  man's  words.  she  looked  up  at  him  as  she  bit  her  bottom  lip,  checking  him  out  briefly,        ❛      oh  come  on,  now,  can't  be  that  bad.  aren't  you  supposed  to  be  selling  me  on  the  food  and  not  trying  to  scare  me  off      ?     because,  let  me  tell  you,  i  could  eat  a  horse.  got  steak  on  the  menu     ?     i'm  really  craving  some  meat       ❜     she  responded  in  a  flirtatious  tone,  chuckling  softly  under  her  breath.  a  part  of  her  was  joking,  because  she  truly  was  starving,  but  that  didn't  mean  she  couldn't  have  dessert  after  her  entrée.

weather will always do as it wishes,   with no hint of forgiveness.  it's been too long since she found her way back to area:  not since childhood really  -   since much quieter  &&   shyer version of herself inhabited her skin, barely even counting as a toddler.   the foster family she'd resided with has long since left,  their house inhabited by some new family,  leaving no reminders of any time spent there.  yet storm outside is relentless,  only seeming to get angrier the more time passes.

𝐉𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐂𝐀 𝐖𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃 𝐍𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑 𝐃𝐀𝐌𝐍 𝐇𝐈𝐌 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐄𝐄𝐋𝐒, but she can be mad at him for what she felt was abandonment. something they both share, she’s willing to bet. she with him & carmy with their eldest—she remembers the way michael treated him when all he wanted was to be included , to feel seen by their elder brother. work at the beef, that’s all carmy wanted but michael cut him off cold. the truth is out & the wool slowly taken from their eyes . . . does carmen now see it as a way of michael being able to protect him from just how much shit this restaurant was actually in ? the half done patch work , the lack of money , the old menu & stale clients. sometimes she wonders why he left this place to their brother only after he was gone & in such a state. ; ❛ none of us did , carm. but, we were because we had to be. michael leaving us was shitty , but we were still there for him. ❜ to this , baby sister allows a few stray tears to run down her cheeks & collect on her chin. she doesn’t always sob anymore, but silently cries in moment of silence when thoughts pound against her skull. ❛ i had to be there for mom. she asked for you, you know. & now, she’s . . she’s worse. ❜ it was insufferable at home, but who was gonna look out for her now ? jessica didn’t wholly trust lee with what task & so, she takes it on herself. the lump at her throat is pushed down. ❛ this place is important, i know, i understand, but what about the people who need you. ❜ . . like me.

AND  IT’S  A  BITTER  CYCLE  THEY’RE  REPEATING;      sibling  angry  at  sibling,    hurt  by  the  distance  put  between  them.      carmy  remembers  that  feeling  of  𝚊𝚋𝚊𝚗𝚍𝚘𝚗𝚖𝚎𝚗𝚝  all  too  well.      he  knows  how  much  he  struggled  when  mikey  pulled  away,    how  hurt    &    alone  it  left  younger  brother  reaching  out  to  𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞  𝐭𝐡𝐞  𝐠𝐚𝐩  until  he  couldn’t  reach  anymore.      now  here  they  are,    and  jessica  is  confessing  words  a  part  of  him  wishes  he  could  scream  at  their  eldest  sibling,    making  him  realize  how  dangerously  𝚌𝚕𝚘𝚜𝚎  he’s  come  to  repeating  history.      fingers  push  loose  curls  away  from  forehead  and  hand  doesn’t  stop  until  it  settles  against  neck  nape,    palm  rubbing  out  the  𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻  as  he  tries  to  calm  racing  heart  enough  to  respond.      ＂      i  didn’t      —        𝘪  𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘯’𝘵  𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸  𝘩𝘰𝘸  𝘵𝘰  𝘣𝘦  𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦.      ＂      it  isn’t  something  he’s  told  many  people.      barely  even  tells  support  group  sugar  has  him  attending,    but  younger  sister  deserves  something  better  than  excuses.      she  deserves  the  truth.      ＂      i  was  angry  and  confused,    and      .  .  .      i  didn’t  know  how  to  be  there.      ＂      there’s  a  lot  more  to  it.      they  don’t  need  to  delve  that  deep  right  now  though.      don’t  need  to  make  it  about  𝚑𝚒��,    when  this  moment  is  clearly  about  them.      ＂      but  that  was  selfish.      i  should’ve  been  there  for  you.      ＂      for  mikey  too,    another  voice  tells  him  in  his  head.      ＂      this  place  is  all  we  got  left  now.      it’s  his,    it  was  a  part  of  him.      i  gotta  turn  it  into  something  before  we  lose  that  too.      ＂

"a lot of the time," sydney nodded, her words overlapping with carmy's before he's even had the chance to get them all out. she's never had a partner before. never been so invested in a team, in a project, in a person that she might actually throw up on the sidewalk. but, as it turned out, partnership was incredibly easy...except for all of the times it was thoroughly, painstakingly exhausting.
