head moved in a slow nod of acknowledgement at emily's question, not surprised that it had come her way. "i know you have your own way of doing things here." it was never easy, stepping into another unit of the bureau without much information, not knowing the ins-and-outs of how the team worked with one another. but ultimately, she wasn't the enemy. "and i want to help you. it's what i'm here for." she reiterated, though the feeling of being an outsider wasn't one she thought that she would be able to shift, at least for the moment. "i'm not the enemy, prentiss. i'm just as fit to be here as the rest of the team, so use me. tell me where i'm going to be the most value. how to fit in the bau."

hand glanced to the watch tied tightly to her wrist –– not one of particular monetary value, much more sentimental. a gift given to her by voight and camille, on her graduation from the police academy. arguably one of the most thoughtful gifts she'd ever received. one thought crossed her mind: it was late. later than she'd thought it was, if she was being entirely honest.

"i think i can take care of myself." words laced with a confidence, not only from a detective but from someone who'd faced more on the streets of chicago than most. if there was one thing she could do, it was get home without a scratch. mostly. "have a good night." she added with a lift of her head, having appreciated the comfort of a companion, no matter how fleeting.

He raises his coffee mug, a mock salute. The more gentlemanly move would to insist that Erin can't possibly be an asshole, and while he does think himself chivalrous when the situation calls for it, Bradley isn't one for blowing smoke up someone's ass. He's an asshole, Erin's an asshole. It's as simple as that.

Unsurprisingly, her comment reminds him of Nat. They've got the same honesty, the same indifference towards themselves. The reminder should bring a smile to his lips, but the missed calls and unanswered text messages make him feel guilty instead. Yeah, he's an asshole, and Bradley's mostly fine with it, but he isn't a great friend.

That's a little harder to bare. There's no nobility in that sort of thing.

He straightens up and waves the bartender over to close out his tab. Bradley doesn't want to see the bill he's racked up. At least, he's clear minded enough to make it back up to his room.

"I should probably head back. You okay to get home?"

"you didn't need to come down here." head lifted carefully from where she was perched on the end of a hospital bed –– stitches carefully placed in her forehead from an altercation with the intelligence unit's most wanted for that particular week. she'd only actually gone to the hospital because there had been a refusal to let her continue to work the case if she didn't get checked over first. "it's just a bump, the team are just being over cautious. i'm fine."

she was no doctor or medical professional by any means, but she'd been hurt out in the field enough times to know what worked and what didn't. and just how badly things could go if you tried to rush a recovery. "you can't push it too hard, you're going to end up in even worse shape. the last thing you want is to be benched even longer, right?" she was bad enough at taking that sort of advice that it felt entirely foreign for her to be dishing it out as if it was nothing. "i've got some aspirin –– do you want some? it'll help ease the pain, at least for a little. you have to promise to still be careful, though." @diemauer

                            braving  through  injuries  was  just  apart  of  being  an  athlete.  however,  it  was  also  one  of  those  know  your  limitation  things.  and  Lucas  was  trying  to  not  push  himself  too  much.  but  he  was  also  not  going  to  give  up.  he  wanted  to  help  his  team  and  to  win.  ❝  danke  ,  Erin.   ❞   the  athlete  replied  grinning  a  bit.  he  waited  for  her  to  grab  and  ice  pack  from  the  freezer  and  once  she  returned  ,  he  leaned  back  a  bit.  ❝  it's  –  i'm  not  going  to  lie  but  it  hurts  quite  a  lot.  I  should  probably  jump  at  that  chance  then  ,  huh?  can't  push  myself  too  much  or  else  i  could  really  ruin  myself  for  the  rest  of  the  season.  ❞

a quietness washed over the room, leaving just the two agents behind. it wasn't the easiest of situations to navigate, but once again, keen had surprised her. "how are you so calm?"

"poor planning, mostly." erin offered, the slightest hint of a joke in her voice despite her face saying otherwise. pulling at her sleeping bag, the detective shifted in place slightly as she tried to make herself more comfortable, but with no avail. "wasn't it my idea to have some sort of weekend away with everyone anyway? and now i don't even get a bed to sleep in?" the floor wasn't exactly a suitable alternative. "serves us right for being the last car to arrive. next time, i'm getting here a day early."

"maybe ––" the detective started, whisper of a smile threatening to curl up at her lips as she spoke, "–– you should have thought of that before you got into a fight."

"can you teach me how to bake something?" it was no secret that erin didn't have many skills when it came to the culinary world, be it savoury or sweet. but her latest case was calling on more skills than she was equipped with. "i'm going undercover for a bit. can't have a poor batch of cupcakes being the reason my cover gets blown. what do you say?"

"are you okay?" question came with a soft expression, those working in a first responder space had to look out for one another when they could get a moment to. especially after events that had left them all scrambling, and spending days on end just trying to piece things back together. "it's been a rough few days, for everyone. but i promise, it's not a loaded question. i'm asking as a friend. we have to look after each other, you know?"

there was a reason why this method worked –– because it was so unbearable, for everyone involved, including them. they just had to make sure that they could hold out longer than those they were chasing down, and everything would go to plan. "me too, but i'd bet we won't get them. can you stick with a sweaty vest for the rest of the year?" she asked, voice lifting in jest while firearm remain fixed in position. if there was one thing that erin had learned over the years, it was that sometimes finding a moment of lightheartness was what would get you through stand offs like this. the thought of an ice cold drink at the end of this was as much as the detective needed to ensure they succeeded in their arrest –– it was always so much better once it felt as though it had been earned. "oh you don't have to say that twice. if this guy can stick out longer than fifteen, i'd be shocked." head moved quickly at the sound of an unidentified noise coming from above them, before turning back to august. "perhaps he's more easily swayed than we thought." she whispered, as feet stepped carefully up a couple more stairs.

the detective strained to hear the gentle thuds, the city doing it's best to drown out the noise with it's day-to-day hubbub. "you know morse code?" question came with an expression that suggested that perhaps she was more impressed than anything else, at the immediate knowledge that it wasn't some sort of coded message. erin's hand hovered carefully over her holster –– a slight over reaction if it really was a cat, but if there was one thing that she had learned, it was that you could never count on anything for certain. "a cat." she confirmed, as feet carefully crept through the alley to lead towards the noise that had caught their attention. "if it's not a cat, you're buying me a burger later." a hint of humour perhaps to detract from the uncertainty of the situation. eyebrows came together in a slight frown, as the banging noise seemed to get quieter the closer she stepped towards it. "are we sure it's coming from this way?"

his joke didn't land with her perhaps in the way that he hoped, for instead of easing the concern that had etched into her face it had done the opposite. "you're not funny." not at this moment, at least, when he was laid up in a hospital bed trying to crack wise and avoid answering the question as to what the doctor had actually said. "avoiding the question isn't going to help, i'm not above using my connections here to find out for myself if you won't tell me."

knuckles rapped lightly on the door to david's apartment, the other gripping tightly at the bag of food she'd picked up on the way over. as the door opened in front of her, she presented the food with a grin. "a little birdie told me patrick is away at a conference this weekend, so i figured i should at least make sure you don't starve."
