ok I got something on my mind so I'm making a poll about it, I know there are writers on this site that like to use GIFs as their headers on their fan fics, but i as a gifmaker don't think I've ever had anyone ask permission to use them as such, I've been tagged and credited sure, but never actually been asked by the writer if they can use them before using them, and I'm not talking about using them via the gif search feature either I mean downloading them and adding them to their post then adding the credit, so my question is...

Let me just clarify too, that the first 2 don't mind options are as in the gif has been downloaded and re-uploaded to the fic... if I hadn't made that clear?

fyi I love the writers on this site this isn't a dig at you, you guys rock and I know most of you make your own banners and headers and stuff for you fics 💜... But I also know from personal experience there are those that'll just use gifs and I've found, as I said above, barely anyone has ever asked me if they can use them before hand so I'm just seeking out some opinions.

It's nothing against you anon, I just never know how to answer it. Because if I say yes, then I have to trust that you're only doing it for personal use and then someone that isn't going to use it for personal use could take that as permission and then turn around and start selling it which could get me into legal trouble above all the other ethical issues with it.

I just never know how to answer. It takes a lot of trust (which I'm not saying you're not trustworthy) and I doubt if someone was going to do it with nefarious intentions, they wouldn't be asking permission.

So I don't know. I really don't.
