Ok I have to ask because you have such based takes on rose as a character,

1) do you read fan fic/ if you don’t what’s your general take on fics interpretation of Rose and other characters in homestuck

2) if you do, please I am begging for any rose character study / rose&kanaya pieces you like, anything will do I just would adore to hear your thoughts. Ao3 is like a drought of mischaracterization of Rose & Kanaya and it hurts my soul.

Oh man, I don't read nearly as much fic as I wish I did not gonna lie, I'm so lazy! (And I suffer from chronic daydreamer disease, where instead of reading fanfic I walk in circles in my room and put Rose Lalonde in Scenarios). I have a few that I've read over the years that I've liked a lot though, so I can try to compile a general list:

the ennui of too late and too little

Starting with this one because it was just posted (and I just read it) and I think it's fantastic! Kanaya POV but Rose-centric, with a particular focus on Rose reflecting back on her childhood with her mom as Kanaya and Rose wander through the wreckage of her childhood home. There's a lot of sweet Rosemary banter in here, and I think the characterization is fantastic. It's a good one if you're like me and want to see Rose actually go through the motions of understanding her mother, balancing her newfound sympathy with her Mom's situation and the things she actually put her through. Her feelings are complicated! And I think the author captured the nuances of how Rose might deal with that very well

And, trying to unfold for you, was brittle

Following the theme of fics about Rose and her mom is the Vampire Slayer Rose AU. This one has slightly less of a Rosemary focus (although it's still there), but explores Rose and her mom's relationship more directly in a way that I think is fantastically developed. It's a very interesting read, albeit a little hard to describe Why it's good unless you read it (read it! It's good!!!). I know you're not asking for Kanaya-centric stuff, but if you like this fic (and are okay with reading or skimming over a tiny bit of smut) I think that this author writes a lot of very solid Kanaya fic. Particularly recommending We Face Back All The Way, a Fallen London AU where Kanaya tries to save Rose's soul from a contract with Dr Scratch, and Where the River Narrows, a fic where post-game Kanaya deals with the precarious future of her race, and wanders the dreambubbles in hopes of solutions (and deals with Some Bullshit along the way. And yes, there's Rosemary. Who do you think I am!!!). From there I also think this is a pretty good author to scroll through in general, lots of bangers in there

Yarn Interpolation

This is a Rose-centric series of two fics that I think is very good. Doomed No Sburb AU where there's no game but Rose's powers develop enough for her to know what she's missing. I don't quite remember the exact specifics of this, but it's a very good beta kids fic with Rose mourning the wife she never met and platonic JadeRose marriage. It's cute and sweet, and I remember it being a fairly cathartic read

Show the Lights

Grimdark Rose comes of age and deals with some internalized homophobia along the way. Fun stuff! This was one of the first Rosemary fics I ever read so I hold it close to me, but I think it's a pretty good fic where Rose reckons with her feelings for Kanaya against the prospect of procreation and the continued survival of her species (in between the desire to feel useful to her group as her friends embark on an Egbert rescue mission). Some smatterings of a very fun pitch Vrisrose dynamic in here as well, as a bit of a bonus

Speaking of Rose dealing with internalized homophobia, if you spend enough time shifting through Rosemary AO3 you've probably already read or at least heard of this one but I still think it's good enough that I should include it. Very reminiscent of what it was like to be a lesbian teenager in the 2000's, Rose deals with these preconceptions at the end of the world, through an unrequited crush on Jade and Slightly More Requited feelings for Kanaya. This fic was good for me specifically as someone who was always urked by the fact that Rose's sexuality is never really discussed in depth in Homestuck proper (compared to characters like Dave, Dirk, and Jake), and beyond that I think it's a very interesting exploration of how the bigotry and politics from Earth might stick with the kids, even when everyone who would judge them is long dead. This is another author who's fics I think are fun to sit through as well, lots of good Rose and Rosemary stuff in here (will give a particular shout out to think about staying alive, a Rose Strider AU, which is great for those of us in the Put Rose In A Situation camp who also love good gen fic with Rose and Dave)

Reviews Of Young Adult Novels, Mainly Those Prominently Featuring Vampires, And Containing At Least One Love Triangle

This one is just plain silly, but it's one of my favorites. Rose is an alcoholic who writes young adult novels, and Kanaya is her greatest online critic. Sort of an Urban Fantasy, more of an alternate No Game timeline, with a lot of canon elements sprinkled in (classpect powers are still a thing, Dave's that played the game timeline jump, things like that). This one has a very fun Rosemary dynamic, and in general I think Rose's characterization in this is wonderful. It's unfinished but I think it stands very solidly as is, so if you're looking for something goofy and fun to read this is a great fic to turn to

Vermeil Tarnishing

A shorter one shot AU where Rose is a Derse priestess captured by Prospit. This is a fun one I think, lots of fun dialogue with little glimpses into fictional politics, which ends with a bit of a bang. Not a massive Rosemary focus, but the bit of them that we do see is very fun!

What kind of mutual would I be if I didn't recommend @awellreadmannequin 's Rose fic? Post-game Rose, dealing with her addiction and the mounting threat of a relapse, visits Roxy and Calliope. Very good characterization, Rose's thoughts are rambly and meandering and she is very much Going Through It, but things get better, you know? Good Rose angst, great study of her character with little discussions of philosophy sprinkled in. A look at how Rose's more ironic childhood interests might grow into something more genuine, and take her down a more hopeful path, with some very sweet Rosemary moments near the end of the first chapter and little hints of vrisrosemary in thoughts and dialogue (in Rosemary's hearts). It's still a work in progress, but I think that the first chapter alone is a great read with a very hopeful conclusion, and I look forward to seeing how it pans out, and I think that other people should read it!!! (Best read on a computer or horizontally on a tablet)

- she literally ends up with the guy whos been trying to get with her for years, even though until a certain point she seemed to have like, no interest in him and it felt sudden for her to actually like him romantically and kind of felt like she was just getting with him because it felt like she should

- she gives a love confession for a girl (hope), though whether or not even the writers think it's romantic is debatable, but then she ends up sired to her which is a result of strong emotions before dying with another vampires blood in your system. she also spends pretty much the whole season with hope before just at the last minute getting with the guy

- she goes on a date with a guy and makes a checklist of qualities for him to meet, including "willing to risk his life for me" and then when he meets all of them, she literally says, "he's totally epic romance material, so why don't i feel anything?"

- in that same episode, she says to a friend, "him coming to rescue me like that? epic" but the person who actually saved her was hope. they also have the guy she ends up with say that "when you really needed someone you went to him, and i was kinda hoping it'd be me" but what they actually SHOW her doing, I think in that literal episode, is going to HOPE every time she needs to talk something out or anything. She went to the other guy once.

- "i love you, hope mikaelson" "you and I are bonded for life"

- she says when getting with her endgame guy, "i have always had a million voices in my head, screaming to be heard. when you died, a part of me felt like there was no one left in my life who would help me sort them all out. the good from the bad," but again, she spent the entire season with hope, hope has been the one she's turned to at every point. when she was stressing about something and needed someone to turn to, she went to hope and not any of the guys, so her saying this when hope has been the one helping her work through things just feels SO fake and forced. there are just multiple scenes where she/other people say things about her relationship with a guy that really just applies more to hope.

- she looks significantly more emotional when confessing to hope than when mg confesses (for at least the third time and it was never a secret) that it's always been her for him. her face in that scene with mg is literally not happy or excited or even really emotional. she looks a little bored, and a little annoyed.(and she literally kisses mg in an earlier episode where she thinks she's gonna die and says "just to be clear, that was for you and not for me.")

- her storyline just feels very comphet

this year i've been doing a lot of stuff that i didn't mean to do, and not doing a lot of stuff that i did mean to do. i got involved with the kink scene, i deepened my familiarity with carbonated beverages, i ate a lot of fried chicken sandwiches, i started reading again, and i played a lot of gacha.

and speaking of gacha, the only one that stuck with me from the decent-sized crop that i sampled this year was mihoyo's zenless zone zero! what to say about it . . . it's a Real Game, for one. it manages to shed the unsheddable "rubbishy" feel that is almost universal to gacha. its premise is like if andy and leyley were normal and worked as shadowrun hackers in jet set radio tokyo, in a semi-apocalyptic world where the only people around are orphans, anthros, or both. there are also sentient automatons that have cool outfits, and chubby baby bunny robots, but unfortunately neither of them have rights. it's got a really cool soundtrack, a charming spiderversesque look, and characters i found surprisingly compelling.

new music! well, new to me at least. you know ben and jerry's cherry garcia (possibly the most prominent contemporary cherry-focused ice cream flavor)? well jerry garcia was a guy who had this band that old men loved called the grateful dead. and well, i don't really care for what i've heard of their records to be honest. but it must be said that they were a jam band, and the 16 minute terrapin station gives one a taste of what i assume was the sensory height of a real-life hippy's experience, and i can imagine listening to it for decades to come.

indeed, if one wants a meal in the proggy realm rather than a bite, it's best to look to the guys that do that stuff all the time across the pond. Morgan put me on to electric wizard and their impeccable self-titled album has been in heavy rotation since. jackie put me on to yes' album relayer, and the first track provides the rarefied pleasure of hearing the singer of the irrepressibly lighthearted and goofy jojo anime ED "roundabout" trill about bathing in the blood of one's enemies.

in more occasional listening i have to rep my oshi 星街彗星 (hoshimachi suisei). her consistently strong body of work ranges from saccharine, to heartfelt, to sort of diva-core. listen, it's increasingly popular to reference hatsune miku, and it's often done with a sort of surface-level appreciation of miku, riding off of the long history miku has in overseas otaku culture. i myself have participated in this. but step outside the bit with me here. miku is a synth, an instrument. miku has all the humanity of the DX7. in fact that's what her color scheme is based on (because yamaha made both miku and the DX7)! hoshimachi suisei . . . listen, maybe people aren't ready. but she really is a virtual pop star. she's iconic. she's got a sigma grindset. she has a favorite food and a sister and friends and it's not lore it's reality. she's not a prop owned by a company, but an autonomous performer! miku is a virtual girl. suisei has a virtual face, but she's a real woman with a real dream! won't you believe in it?

staying with japanese affairs for a moment, anime has been good too! gushing over magical girls, perfect show, hannibal for anime girls, delightful and heartfelt. i also watched the vexations of a shut-in vampire princess, which was frenetic, lightning fast and kind of stupid, but i eagerly await another season. both extremely lesbian.

looking ahead, i'm extremely excited for the release of the alters, a game whose demo caught me completely off-guard, and i'm also excited to try the early access release of marmoreal, a sort of isometric completely touhoucore game with so much charm and sincerity.

I took out the magic and the vampirism (why did i take out the magic and the vampirism) and added in a bunch of seduction and performativity because those were the things my early fics didn't have as much of :) so yes. there are themes and motifs in my silly romcom it's just also (i hope) there are good jokes.

Hi, I know it's been a while since I've posted. I think something so important is accountability. When you have a public social platform whether you have 4 followers 400 or thousands it's so important to look at behavior both past and present and say yes I did or said this previously I do not support this now. I'm sorry if I said or did anything that was ignorant or just hurtful. Truth is I regret a bunch of things I posted. Of all things arguably my most problematic era was being a Degrassi blog of all things.

There was a time I dismissed Tristan being biphobic very early on when he said a line. He was biphobic. And thank fuck there were so many fans who called out that shit as harmful. Because it was and it still is. Even now it's still such a prevalent thing in the community especially with gay men towards bisexual men. Or lesbians with bisexual women. For someone who is queer herself I shouldn't of defended it the first time I heard it. I shouldn't of defended it period. I go both ways I wouldn't ever want someone to say that to me or anyone on the spectrum of sexuality because there's nothing to change or apologize for. Thank you to every single fan who said it was. Thank you for calling me out at that time even when I was too ignorant to see it for what it was. I am sorry. As an adult. Fuck that shit. Fuck the me that said those things.

Degrassi of all shows normalized a lot of things that shouldn't of been normalized. Katie raping Drew. Zoe doing child pornography to take back power after her assault. Biphobia. Ableism etc. We shouldn't herald a show for having representation as perfect because even shows with spectrums of representations aren't perfect. Or even shows/movies with little representation can fall under the umbrella of problematic normalization. Gossip Girl normalized rape culture with Chuck Bass where he attempted to SA two of the main females in the first episode and later the show demonized one of the girls for having 'sex' with him when she had hit a low point and Chuck took advantage of her. He was romanticized as a romantic lead and good endgame when he was an abusive predator who deserved jail not marriage and a child. Sex in the City Carrie was biphobic and it was normalized. The vampire era normalized so much pedophilia. It's okay to still enjoy the shows, media or movies you consume despite the problematic tendencies if you recognize and call out said problematic tendencies.

Whilst it's easily to look back and be like well oh it was normalized so my reactions at that period are fine. I think it's so important to look inward to yourself and reflect on if you have said or done something harmful to the community you have. I was harmful. It doesn't matter what I was going through. It doesn't even really matter if it was normalized I contributed to a bad stigma which hurt and potentially invalidated people. That's not okay.

Whilst queer representation hasn't 100% improved over the years seeing shows like Kitty x0x0 or schitts creek and many others depict bisexuality, pansexuality and the spectrum in general with so much respect and love makes me want to cry with happiness. I'm so thankful that kids and teens growing up get that. It's important ESPECIALLY if you are depicting a same sex relationship to see gay characters love and respect their spectrumed partners. I want better for the community I'm a part of. I want the representation that's deserved. The world is shitty and scary enough having that small ember of hope is needed.

Hi ! My name is Cécile (at least online it is, I’ve had enough stranger-danger talks in school to know better than to give my actual name). I usually write fantasy, science-fiction or urban fantasy, but I’ve dabbled in a few other genre (even poetry… It was a dark dark time XD), and I write about fate vs. free will, rewriting the past, the weight of immortality, over-powered women. And lesbians.

I am a sfw writer (most of the time... I’ve written like three sex scenes and it’s not good so you won’t see any unless I get marginally better at writing them 💀) , but I do tend to write about blood and violence – no sexual violence tho. Tropes you will never find in my writing include Dom/sub relationships because I don’t like strong power imbalance in my ships, but other than that I’m drawing a blank.

In my humble opinion, the best text I’ve ever written… has never been posted. Sorry. It might change one day but for now it’s going to stay in my drive with the 550 other projects. But if you’re curious, it’s a one-shot from the POV of a secondary character, who reminisces about the main character (Lorelei, love of my life) and all the secrets she carries and the weight of her (numerous) sins. I love it because of the dichotomy between what he says and what he keeps quiet, the things he allows to spill from his lips and what he’s trying to forget. At the end of the day, when he talks about her, he says nothing. Nothing true, nothing real, nothing of import. My all time favourite character is Lorelei Douxruisseau, she’s the High Priestess of the goddess of revenge Némésis, she’s immortal, has too much power, is half-mad and as a frankly codependent relationship with her goddess. She’s a god-killer, law-maker, rule-breaker witch and she’s my baaaaby.

(Yes, I do realize that I’ve only talked about a story I’ve never mentioned on tumblr, but that’s not my fault, this project is my favourite and I’m too far into it to just start making a wip page for it. The main novel (that I’m writing with my best friend) is sitting at 250k and we’re not even done with the first book, and the AU I wrote for it is already in its third installment. I wouldn’t even know where to begin…. I’m always down to talk about it tho)

Me doing an Astarion Origin run but then also deciding to do another normal Tav run at the same time and then I create the Guardian and then I need the Guardian to become my character next playthrough so I make another one with her, and then again when I do a new Guardian I love her so much I once again make another run with her. So I have an Astarion Origin run and 3 Tav runs, 1 as a tiefling named Niom Lamboise (yes I used my username for it and I love her so much and don't ask the name means nothing I kind of made it up in my last year of high school by the first name being me writting a word a bit wrong and the second one being me mishearing something and I heard Lamboise and I thought "huh that's a cool name"), one as a drow named Larune Clothonis who probably looks more like my own personal vampire woman fantasy to be honest (made the name up entirely I have no time to check the drow dictionary I named my female Ninetales Larune back with Pokemon Legends Arceus and when I started typing for a last name the word Clotho appeared in suggestions on my Playstation and I added the is at the end for some extra elegance not sure if I pulled it off but I like it), and the third one as a githyanki named Naa'Ri (again made it up don't ask me what it means I just had for some reason the name of one of the new League of Champions' champion's name Naafiri, and I just shortened the name), I have it bad for pale, pointy eared women wearing very dark lipstick, my lesbian heart is running in circle over them.

I swear when I made Niom's guardian I took half a dozen pic in character creation just to have her face back perfectly for when I needed to create her again for her own playthrough, rince and repeat with her guardian and the one after hers. XD

Keep in mind I haven't even finished act 1 with Astarion, but then made 3 ladies back to back in one day and proceed to go recruit him first.

And my bisexual side that loves only fictional men is currently in love with Astarion.

I had half a mind to make them Dark Urge, but then I was like nah I love them too much to put them through this so they'll just be part of races that have it hard, tieflings have it hard, evil drows also have it rough given their history, and githyankis are basically all a race cult toward their queen, so.

I love this game.

Now if I stop making new characters and actually try to finish the game, that would be nice.

I mean he has the ghosts ofc but it's not the same as someone who's able to go out into the world and also be up to date with real life shit ya know. usually the first line is reserved for wedding vows but like...they were good friend and he must've been fucking devastated

God that fucking chapter where we find out how Cap was turned. That is exactly this verse. I mean...he's isolated to Button House because he can't go out during the day and all other vampiric shit. Traumatized and shit thinking about how he should've died. And the man that he found in his office who did die.

This I think also links to Cap's turning. But it could also be Cap's guilt when he saves Pat. He knows what it's like to lose all the things you used to be able to do and then he did exactly that to the man he fell in love with even though it saved his life. Even tho they're both...dead.

'Till death do us part came far too soon Buildings burn and people die All of the time' -> in addition to what you said, the ghosts are also constant reminders to Cap that people die all the time but he and them are stuck in their specific limbos forever. it also makes me sad because heather left for about 20 years before she actually died and got married so those vows in the first line are,, ouchie. we're meant to be gay and lesbian bffs what do you mean you left me all alone and got a wife??

'You can't save yourself or save your soul When you meet the man who's life you stole' -> YES you're literally so right. obvs it's not included in Pat's chapter where he carks it because he's not aware but obviously his turning involved a lot of fraught and frantic energy with the ghosts trying to convince Cap to save him, with their reasoning being that it would be Slightly better for Pat to come back as a vampire, especially compared to being a ghost or fully dead.

'No forgiveness, just farewell' -> this will become relevant in a later chapter 👀not in a big way but yeah it stuck out to me when i was looking at the lyrics.
