"3 years, 5 years later, later.... much later.... what kind of grown-ups will we be? Like the PE teacher? Like my mom? I can't see myself, even with my eyes closed, but I can see you."

藍色大門 | BLUE GATE CROSSING (2002) dir. Yee Chih-yen Meng Kerou is a 17-year-old tomboyish high school student who, like other girls of her age, she is trying to find both herself and her sexuality. One day, her best friend, Lin Yuezhen, tells Kerou that she likes Zhang Shihao, the star of the swimming team's, and asks Kerou to help her confess her feelings. Kerou can't resist Yuezhen's pleading and goes along to help her express her friend's love to Shihao, but when Yuezhen runs away in shyness, Shihao mistakenly believes that Kerou is the one who is expressing her own feelings for him. Blue Gate Crossing (蓝色大门), dir Yee Chih-yen (易智言). 2003.
Taiwanese filmmaker Yee Chih-yen follows up his debut Lonely Hearts Club with the romantic drama Lanse Da Men (Blue Gate Crossing). Best friends Meng Ke-rou (Guey Lun-mei) and Lin Yueh-chen (Liang Shu-hui) are 17-year-old high school girls. When Yueh-chen admits she likes the boy swimming champ Chang Shih-hao (Chen Bo-lin), she talks Ke-rou into talking to him for her. But Shih-hao ends up liking Ke-rou instead, and the rest of the film develops their sweet friendship and adolescent romance. The only problem is that Ke-rou thinks she might be a lesbian because she's in love with her best friend Yueh-chen.
The film has been well-received critically. Dennis Lim, in a review for the Village Voice, observed the film's "meticulous framing and haunting use of repeated motifs" reflects the influence of Taiwanese New Wave directors Hou Hsiao-hsien and Edward Yang. The Portland Mercury described the film as "a modern-day Chinese lesbo twist on the old Cyrano story" that "treads new territory in the teen coming of age drama realm," praising Yee's "haiku-like directorial lyricism."
Gentle and reflective, Blue Gate Crossing ultimately doesn't make a terribly strong impact, but it does impress with its well-composed visual style and sensitive handling of bittersweet emotion.

I discovered your blog today so sorry if you already answered this question but since you work(ed) in the entertainment industry and you’re quite aware of hats happening in there, do you know if there’s many lgbt couples? Because honestly, I always wonder if all the ships or fan service that idols/actors provide us lead to an actual relationship. Not talking about bjyx, I know they’re real. But like in the kpop industry for example, or the China acting industry? There are rumors about certain ones but I’m still not sure if I believe it since we never know if it’s pure fan service or something else. Also, your blog is really interesting and your answers are so honest and complete! Thank you for your work!
Hi Anon, thanks for the compliments on my blog. I’m glad you like it.
To answer your question, there is only one openly gay couple in Kpop who I can think of: Seung-ho and B.Nish from D.I.P.
Here is a partial list of openly out LGBTQ+ celebrities in Asia.
HONG KONG
Leslie Cheung  Denise Ho Chet Lam Gigi Chao Lin Xi Susanna Kwan Anthony Wong Stanley Kwan Roman Tam  Yam Kim-fai  TAIWAN Kevin Tsai Tsou Tzung Han  Enno Cheng Aaron Yan Hush  Yee Chih-yen   Tsai Ming-liang  SOUTH KOREA Holland MRSHLL (Marshall Bang) Som Hye-In Hyeong Seong Seung-ho (D.I.P) B. Nish (D.I.P) Hyeong Seong (D.I.P) Maman (Coming out resulted in her losing her contract with her agency) Harisu   LADY  Choi Hanbit  Hansol  I don’t have any lists from China or Japan, as there aren’t really many major celebrities who are out and proud that I know of.
If you were wondering if there are more LGBTQ couples who are secretly hiding their relationships in the world of Asian entertainment - the accurate answer is “most probably.” (Aaron Yan actually was outed back in 2018 by an ex-boyfriend, so he was closeted for some time.)

4CC Men’s Predictions and Notes
This is an incredibly unpredictable field, and there are a lot of people here who might normally not be here because they’d rather be recuperating for Worlds, but it’s the Olympic test event, so they want to get the feel for the rink.  It’s going to be intense!  There are some younger skaters here that I’m in some ways more excited for than the top of the top who will likely be amazing unless they bomb dramatically, which will probably still be interesting.  Hopefully this is an event full of good clean skates!
If you have any questions about my favorites or my predictions (or what I was doing with my math), feel free to let me know!
Predictions and math under the cut for length:

Predicted Podium:                                  Dream Podium: 1) Yuzuru Hanyu (JPN)                            1) Yuzuru Hanyu (JPN) 2) Nathan Chen (USA)                             2) Shoma Uno (JPN) 3) Shoma Uno (JPN)                                3) Denis Ten (KAZ) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) Boyang Jin (CHN)                                4) Nathan Chen (USA) 5) Denis Ten (KAZ)                                  5) Boyang Jin (CHN) 6) Patrick Chan (CAN)                             6) Han Yan (CHN)
Notes: So, some of these predictions might look a little bit weird, but they’re based on a combination of Nationals, consistency, recent results, and how skaters have done facing off against each other in the past.  For example, last time Denis was here, was the best competition of his life.  Patrick has been all over the place this season, and Nathan just killed it at Nationals.  Who knows how things will pan out… Only the actual event can tell us, but these are my predictions based on how this season has gone so far.
Younger and Lower Ranked Skaters:  There are a few skaters that I’m really looking forward to who are a little further down the pecking order.  Julian (MAS) is going to be here, and he’s been having a pretty good first full senior season so far.  He’s going to be in the hunt for personal bests, and he’s already looking at the Olympics next year, probably more than Worlds this year.  Also from SE Asia, we’ve got Martinez (PHI) who hasn’t been at a ton of high profile competitions recently.  His spins, especially his biellmann are always worth watching, and I’m looking forward to seeing his programs.  Jinseo, June Hyoung, and Sihyeong (KOR) are going to be skating for a home crowd, and I hope that that helps them reach new personal bests, but more than anything, I really hope that they can be proud of their performances on home ice.  Keiji (JPN) has been having a break out season for him, crashing through old personal bests and not popping nearly as many jumps, and I’m super proud of him.  I hope he skates a skate that he can be proud of as well.  Misha (UZB) is always an amazing performer, and I can’t wait to see how he’s doing on the ice now that he’s back from whatever took him off the GP.
