I just learned of this 1976 Taiwanese movie with the mangled English title Monkey King with 72 Magic (Thai poster shown). Why does Sun Wukong look like Richard Simmons? Who thought "Jazzercise" attire was appropriate battle dress? Found on instagram.

(Our Times) to anyone. Fantastic Taiwanese movie about remembering the good times in high school and learning to look beyond people’s upbringing and social standing.
It’s definitely got “Japanese high school drama” vibes to it but it’s so much deeper than that (and actually made me cry when I watched it last night). The art direction, pacing, editing, and cinematography are all brilliant. Plus, the two leads are just perfect. I’m so glad I finally saw it!!

小幸运 (A Little Happiness) by 田馥甄 Hebe Tian Fuzhen, the theme song of the movie “我少女的时代” (titled “Our Times” in English) that I’ve grown addicted to listening after watching it. One of this years most anticipated Taiwan romance movie. I’m a sucker for romance films, and I feel empathy for both main characters in the movie.
Through this film, I’ve learn a couple of things mentioned by the female lead Lin Zhen Xin, a glimpse of some situations from a females perspective. Though I think it only applies to certain females perspective. And yet I’ve also found myself empathizing deeply with the male lead Xu Tai Yu. This movie touches on certain factors of reality about young love. But a with touch of certain romance situations where an INFP like me could only idealize about.
There’s just so much quotes from this movie that I empathize with, watching those scenes where the quotes were mentioned gives me goosebumps, in a good way. Anyway, here are some of the quotes from the movie:
Only after a long period of time, would we realize that when a girl says she won’t talk to you anymore, it doesn’t mean that she hates you. It just means that she cares a lot about you.
Time changes a person, as well as several other things. However, the one thing that it won’t change, are memories.
The trick to not falling down is not the fear of falling down. After all, the worst is just a fall, what’s more important, is why you started out in the first place.
When a woman says nothing is wrong, then something is wrong. When a woman says it’s okay, then it’s not okay!
During the times when there were no smartphones and Internet, it’s easy for someone to just disappear from your life altogether.
If you’ve never skipped school in your school uniform before, you’ll only regret it when you’re an adult.
We are the only ones who can determine who we want to be!
When you really like a person, you won’t have the courage to tell her.
We do not have to stay in a place where we do not feel belonged. It’s just a waste of our time!
Liking a person is something that you can’t control it just happens.
Some factors of the movie that I empathize with: -How a guy changes drastically once he’s fallen in love with a girl. -The things we cover in the face of the ones we love, not showing how we truly feel about them. -Sacrificing our chance at the one we love because we know they’ve already got an eye for someone but unbeknown to us that they have feelings for us. -We would always meet someone in our lives who we’re glad to have met and it would be the proudest moment in our lives, be it an infatuation or love. as time goes by, situations change and you’ll never know when you’ll be able to meet that person again. Eventually we learn to live with it. The times you’ve spent together are truly something that would be engraved in your heart. Perhaps it reminds me of a quote I’ve heard back then, “Don’t be sad that it’s gone, be proud that it happened.”
