Being wrong has been the most underrated aspect of this wonder. To discover how ______ up my heart and psyche are continues to paint how abstract life is here. Wrapping things up neatly, checking boxes, and defining things with terms to add to my dictionary have been vanity. Attempting to form a better self for God, loved ones, and my mirror contributed to the fire. As I watched my heart burn to ash and dust, I looked onward towards my epitaph which would someday read, “Finally.” Thankful and bitter, religious and skeptical, smart and ignorant, and proud and insecure; I can play the human card at all points to escape reality. Avoidance and running have been my superpowers since twas a young gun. Taking the blame outwardly to maintain control inwardly, I have preprogrammed responses to promote equilibrium wherever time carries me temporarily. Beneath the makeup and armor is emptiness. Gross. That being said, I feel the innate need to rationalize and justify everything preceding with logic. For a few moments, I’m gonna opt out of “wisdom.” Funny, 37 years old, and I still think that I can outsmart emotion with the right combination of letters and numbers. Here are a few things that do work for me (common solutions): prayer, sleep, food, music, exercise (minus sweating), work, listening, and a shower. Basically, outlets . . . Is it ever going to change? ALWAYS. That’s the root “problem.” I’m afraid of the things that will happen in life so much so that I neglect to just experience it. Yuck 🤢😭🥺😬 Yeah, I’m more reality than perception 🫣

Okay . . . Stage 1: Anger. Frustrated with the bright lights and yelling, I plotted to disappear even if it cost me these bones. From oceans to valleys, textbooks to space stations, and eternity to finite implosions; I didn’t care what happened to my surroundings. All I knew was that these eyes were tired of fueling the script with emotion and that I was fed up with feeling any of it. Stage 2: Regret. As the wheels stopped spinning and I found my heart full of hatred, the mental and physical conditions of my soul weren’t pretty. All the makeup and photoshop couldn’t cover up how empty outward “success” felt internally. Stage 1: Anger. Yeah, it’s not progressive (cyclical at best). Anyways, enough with the systematic labeling of this adult thing. Common to the whole, I’m a hot mess waiting for paradise to show up at my doorstep wrapped in gold paper with a grand explanation as to why the delivery was so late. Entitled? No, not me 🫣🙄😬 Anyways, at what point does data supersede want and need? Never. Transformation and maturation are expected from the moment news comes that we will arrive here. Some take longer to feel the weight of social comparison, but we eventually find ourselves in the copper pot with heat rising slowly. Somewhere along the way, each finds her or his escape from relative measurement. This is a neutral. Final stage: The mirror. My friend, we will see what is there regardless of change and time. Being kind or dismissive of what’s in that reflection bleeds into our external connections. No matter how far we run or long we stare, what will project is us purely. So, whatever stages come in-between such are filler. The only one that matters is self-acceptance. Such leads to embracing others. It is obvious. That’s what makes things so difficult. Yuck 🥹

Granted, most everything you thought of me, I imagined in my soul. The social distancing and years spent hiding away were part of an elaborate plan to escape without connection. Suicidal ideation has been my safe place since I heard that I deserved hell. Living in the shadow of an all powerful being, the desire to make amends was seemingly impossible. Having to accept mercy and grace were too much for my ego. Past tense sounds nice because it makes writings less “dangerous.” Let’s flip the switch. Depression, anxiety, shame, regret, greed, pride, anger, and all the other emotions hit me regularly. I am your average D- / F student. College drop out and relationship sabotager, I traveled the Pacific Ocean attempting to cause Armageddon (literally). My naval team was tasked with nuclear deterrence and international security. I was just mad at “God.” Prior to this, I attempted to be a priest/pastor. Released by my religious body for being arrogant and rebellious, I managed to ruin two engagements and take advantage of family simultaneously. I may have only met the truly demonic a few times but see something darker in the mirror when I have the courage to look without blinking. Given breath, community, and freedom to do whatever; I knowingly doubt the faithfulness of our source. Call it human nature or a process in sanctification, whatever makes stubbornness and damage easier to swallow. It would be one thing if I was ignorant or blind. In all reality, it’s just seeing what’s in front of me minus feeling who and what is making it all exist. Yeah, I like past tense better. The present makes how far I have to go in my maturation and acceptance of eternity all too real. Yup.
