With the north islands ruled by a corrupt dynasty, a millennia long bloodline marred by illness and insanity, the council government is based among the elite academics at the renowned Institute of Magic in the country’s capital, a city known for its rich history and mysterious disappearances of students. Despite this reputation and the urban legends surrounding the prestigious school, many scholars dream of attending. And three of those students are the main focus of this story.

Meet Rowan, David and Emilee. (And yes I did choose to spell every name wrong. It was a choice, not cause im illiterate) Rowan was raised at the institute, by the institute. She’s a spell-caster. David is from a small island in the southwest. He is a scribe. And finally, Emilee is a practical apothecary mage from the far side of the mainland, past the mountains.

What the fuck did I just say, thou might be wondering? Well I’m so glad you didn’t ask, because I will now infodump.

This is the country known as the north islands. The blue square is the capital, where the institute is located. Rowan grew up there, and the story takes place there. Now you see that island that the capital is on? Go to the squiggly line (mountain range) and past that. The left X is where Emilee is from. Finally you see those little islands at the bottom left. David is from the bigger of the two. Yay, geography.

Okay as for the mage classifications! There are three mage classes, Scribe, Spell-caster and Practical.

A scribe uses a magical type of ink to paint runes, that allow them to bend the universe to their will. It is the hardest type of magic by far, and the most highly regulated.

A spell-caster or a born mage, is basically the stereotypical magic user. Using a conduit like a wand or sceptre, they can manipulate the world around them. More powerful spell-casters can use their power without a conduit.

A practical mage is a loose term for types of magic learned by most common people. These include things like apothecary (potions) alchemy (slightly different form of potions) healing, communication with spirits, divination, and animal familiars. They can be learned by pretty much anyone but are incredibly powerful in their own right.

I will be diving deeper into the details of each type, and a FUCKTON more lore and world building because this is going to need a lot more world building than my other stuff.

heres how i did it for that video:

draw your sun and export it as png file

put it into your editing program (I'm using da vinci resolve)

move the anchor point into the centre of your sun

4. place a keyframe for "rotation angle" at the start of the png (or whenever you want your sun to start spinning). Wherever (or rather whenever) your playerhead is = is where the keyframe will be placed. Keyframes are how the editing program moves things around. Placing this first one at the beginning of your timeline basically = "I want this to be the start position of this png".

5. Go to the end of whenever you want your sun to stop spinning. Place another keyframe there. This basically = "I want this to be the end position of this png"

6. Keeping your playerhead on that keyframe you just put, rotate the sun png to change its position. (in adobe premiere which is the program I used to edit the thrushpelt video, I could just use the transform controls to spin it around n around and it would just keep counting how many rotations I made yaay simple. In da vinci resolve it looks like that just makes it reset back to 0 degrees when you rotate back around to the start lol So that means I had to manually type in "600" degrees to get it to rotate multiple times; like how 365 degrees would be 1 full rotation, so 600 would be around 2 full rotations.)

And here I'm showing method 2: manually typing in "600" degrees in the "rotation angle" setting, and then I'm playing the video to see it spin

7. Play the video and see if you like how it looks, and adjust to your liking (to edit a keyframe, just make sure your playerhead is at whenever you placed the keyframe).

More rotations = it'll spin faster. Why? Imagine if someone told you to spin around only 1 time within 10 seconds. You might have to even deliberately slow down to spin only once within that time. BUT if they told you to spin around 50 times within 10 seconds? You'd have to spin real fast to make sure you spun around enough within that same time frame.

8. Also: To make it rotate clockwise/counter-clockwise (whatever the other direction is), just put a "-" next to the number to make it negative 600.

In that video above you can also see how because my playerhead wasn't on the exact spot of one of the previous keyframes I made, it automatically made a new third keyframe when I changed the rotation setting to "-600". Then when I play the video, we can see it first spins the same like in step #6 (because those first 2 keyframes are still the same), and then start spinning the opposite direction ("-600"). It also spins a lot faster mainly because while those first 2 keyframes are about 3 seconds apart, key frame #2 and the new keyframe #3 are like 1 second apart

(again imagine spinning around 5 times within 10 seconds vs trying to spin around 5 times within 1 second; for the latter you'd have to spin a lot faster)

(*it technically is Also spinning faster because instead of going from 0 degrees (keyframe #1) to 600 degrees (keyframe #2) which is a difference of 600 (0 minus Positive 600 yay math), it's going from 600 degrees (keyframe #2) to -600 degrees (keyframe #3) aka a difference of 1200, a much larger distance (600 minus Negative 600 yay math))

In conclusion: Keyframes are the key! lol. They are what makes everything move/change over time so they'll be your bread and butter in video editing, so try to learn more about how they work! I hope that all makes sense ;O;

Hi everyone! This is pretty much a recap of my progress update I said in class yesterday!

What's been happening over the past 2 weeks?

Over the past two weeks, I've been creating content for my Instagram page. I feel proud to say that I'm done with the production phase of my project. All six weeks of looking at different cultures have been posted on my Instagram account! The last two weeks focused on boba and Asian makeup culture.

What's coming up for the next 2 weeks?

During the next 2 weeks, I plan on posting one last video to my Instagram page as a reflection on my experiences doing this project. I will also be analyzing the interactions that I received on my Instagrams within the reflection video. In addition to the video, I will be working on the senior bio form and media asset folder.

Hiccups/Hurdles/AHA Moments

Since I have a good routine going on with my posting schedule for my Instagram, I didn't really have any issues. I feel like the only issue would have been making time for researching, creating, and editing the content on my page along with my schedule and other classes. But, it has really helped me on my time management skills and it forced me to not procrastinate on my work.

I seriously feel like this semester went by incredibly fast. I can't believe we only have a little less than a month left until summer break. I hope everyone is doing okay on their progress! We're almost there yay!!

OKAY so with the photoshop, don’t feel bad about thinking you need the skill. If your job and every day life don’t require it, then it’s really not a big deal. I will say, it’s really easy to use. I only do basic stuff with it, like idk how professional editors do some of the things they do, or like I have no idea how to brush away acne and stuff (I use the app facetune for that), but for basic stuff, photoshop is really simple. Also, adobe has a ton of how to videos and insutrctions for just about everything, and there are other people that make how to videos as well. Whenever I don’t know how to do something I just google it, and it’s usually not too difficult to figure out. I do the same with with Adobe Premiere CC, like in the last youtube video I made I needed to do a freeze frame, so I just looked up how to do it and it was super simple.

Hobonichi Techo: The Commerical

After having the storyboard, notes and tripod ready, I spent a whole day filming on my own. When I had gathered enough clips, it was time to edit (yay..!).

I have some experience with Adobe Premiere Pro CC from a few years ago, so it was fun to rediscover this software. I wanted to both have music and “real sounds”, so I cut the clips to the flow of the music, removed all audio from the clips, and added sound effects (from freesound.org). The sound effects gave the video more life, and had cleaner audio than the original recorded sounds. As the breif required typography, I made this into a point in my video, and have typography almost constantly on the screen. To make it easier for the viewers, I made sure the text didn’t move too much, and emphasized the changing elements.

I focused on transitions in this video, to make it appear smoother, and also emphasize that the same book can be used many ways, dependent on lifestyle and personality. Here is a pageflip the transition-action, while the page is constant. (The page is from they day of visiting GDS in London, with the admission pass and stickers already there. The flight ticket is to Lisbon, Portugal earlier this year. Fake it ‘till you make it!)

(This red Ruter bus is also pretending to be a British double decker bus.) The transition between “travel” and “study” is quite different. Looking at the watch (associated with both traveling and studying) is the swift action, and the backgrounds are seemingly similar, both with a red tophalf and grey bottom half. I didn’t have time to edit the colours and light in this video (as my laptop were on the verge of suicide by just stabilizing sequences), but in a serious version I definitely would do it to smooth the transition even more.

“Study” to “workout” is the same as the first transition, with a pageflip as action. I wish I had filmed both clips further away, so I could adjust them better according to each other. The workout clip was the first one I shot, so I initaly thought I would have the pen on the page in the whole video, which I later changed my mind about. Oh well!

The transition between “workout” and “sketch” is a more subtle one, and I don’t  think I succeded 100% with it. I tried to paint the weights as flowers, but as I tried to stabilize and position the clips correctly, it was hard to match them up. I tried to have a dissovling overlay transition instead of a blunt cut, but I still looked strange (especially since none of the other clips needed that kind of transition).

All in all, it was both fun and challenging to do this by myself. I still found joy in this, so I can see myself making videos for my own products during my studies. Next time I will try to colour grade in Premiere too, as I only have done this in other softwares. Portfolio here I come!

So a lot of things have happened in the last few weeks and are going to happen.

What has happened is my computer died and I can't afford $900 worth of repairs. My phone, after like 3 years of owning this thing, finally cracked, and I can't afford my plan let alone to fix the screen atm. Problems at home are escalating and I had a mental breakdown today.

What will happen is I'm finally getting the fuck out of here. I'll be moving about an hour away in about three weeks, give or take a week. Will be getting an apartment with my cousin and his boyfriend.

It sucks cause I had my resume, my unposted fanfiction, unfinished videos, and much more work on that laptop. My entire life just fucking vanished.

Honestly I'm just a mess right now and life sucks and I'm hating myself and my family so hard but I'm trying. Luckily, even if I hate my parents at times, my mother is understanding of my passions and is gonna help with a laptop, which means I'll be able to work on something again.

As for videos, I'll need like $300-600 for a fucking program. Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas are kinda my only options. Yay me.

I suspect I'm going to have to reach out randomly to my fave YouTube vidders (who I have previously never spoken to so yay) to get the answer to this question, but maybe someone following me makes fanvids and I never knew.

Does Adobe Premiere Pro edit compressed video footage without issue? Because 13 years ago, when you got into the fancier (read: paid) softwares, you started running into frames popping up where they weren't supposed to. On a vidding forum (LONG ago passed on to the great big internet in the sky, rip) I learned about compressed and uncompressed footage and that video editing softwares are only designed to work with uncompressed footage (because it's raw and all frames are considered key frames). And the downloaded episodes you download are compressed to make them downloadable (uncompressed footage is HUGE). Compressed footage takes short cuts and only designates certain frames as the "key frame" and if it's not a key frame, it might pop up where it's not supposed to be when you're editing with it. So I learned this bulky method to sort of fake uncompress the footage? and the stray frame problem went away.

Long story short, there's no way every fan in the world knows these kinds of technical details (I don't know the technical details; my explanation was shit) and the method I used in 2009 isn't supported in 2020, so!

How the fuck does everyone make these really high quality vids with no stray frames???

My only guess is Adobe Premiere Pro deals with compressed footage more cleanly than Sony Vegas did (and does, cause in 2017 I tried editing a Ghostbusters vid and immediately had a stray frame problem). But I would love to have that confirmed before I shell out money and attempt to learn a new software.

when i first started making videos (like, the very first ones that are now deleted cause it was on a different channel back in 2012. there werent many anyways.) i literally just used to film on my ipod that was balanced on top of a pile of books over where i was drawing. with time, my setup and things i use to film and edit got better. keep this in mind, because a lot of people worry that they need to have all this professional equipment right from the start when you don’t! as you grow, so will the things you use. 

the only thing i recommend everyone to have, regardless of if they’re filming on a old iPod or with an actual camera is good lighting. film next to a window if you can, as natural lighting is the best. if not, try and have lamps on both sides of you as you film your art (and if you only have one, put it on the opposite side of your dominant hand so it doesnt cast a shadow over your paper)

currently i record with a canon eos rebel t5i with a hama star 63 tripod. when i film digital speedpaints i use a program called OBS to capture my screen and then i edit the speed quicker in adobe premiere pro (where i currently edit all my videos)

if you have an apple product, iMovie is a really good program to start off with to learn how to edit, its simple and does the basic job you need for starting a channel.

As well as a plan to re-watch season 12 in an attempt to understand it better, pick up on bits I missed etc. because it’s not like I want to be indifferent towards one of my favourite shows ( I will re-watch eventually I promise xD) I really want to get back into making videos. So after my free trial of Premier ran out (boo hiss Adobe for being bloody expensive) and I made a stupid error on the nogitsune vid I did a while back, I’ve decided to try Lightworks and while I’m still getting used to how it works (yay for many youtube tutorials) it’s so far been really good for being free editing software.

So I’ve got some summer projects planned(ish) and I actually managed to get back into University which starts in September :D which is exciting and super nerve-wrecking at the same time, got lots of preparing to do!

ALRIGHT so I’ve successfully set up my new desktop yay! Now I can actually start some of the video projects that I’ve had in my head for literally years and finally have a computer powerful enough to do them. Possible first project ideas include:

Remaking my HTTYD Defying Gravity amv to be from a higher quality video source. Pros: it’s higher quality and I get to practice using Adobe Premiere without worrying too much about the creative process in the first place. Cons: not new content from yours truly.

Making either of the two HTTYD 2 amvs I have ideas for. Pros: 90% of the reason I built this computer was because I have these ideas and so I can FINALLY make them. Cons: I have no idea how to use Premiere.

Making a Croods amv. Pros: there’s not enough Croods content on the internet and I can add more. Cons: I don’t have a quality copy of The Croods.

Making a Yuri!!! On Ice amv. Pros: would involve rewatching YOI. Cons: would involve rewatching YOI which takes time I don’t really have since finals are in two weeks.

Please weigh in on possibilities.
