This was my initial thought for how to dye the Batty colorway, but decided it needed it's own space.
Say hi to Mystic.
It's really difficult to capture this one on camera!
Mystic is a mix of a cool pastel purple, and a cool minty color. It turns this really pleasant grey where they overlap and mix. It's really subtle compared to all the other things I have dyed, and I really find it to fit it's name sake!
I feel like this would make some really pretty garments, or something lacey. I will likely be visiting this color again later, even if only to dye up a sweater's quantity for myself ;)
Currently, I have 10 skeins available on a 100g sock base.

I am thinking of using these sun and moon Granny squares but use this fingering weight yarn I already have instead of buying worsted weight yarn to make a celestial themed Granny square Cardigan.
I dyed the blue yarn myself using Jacquard acid dyes colorway sapphire blue and I have approximately 1,470 yards of it but I don't think that's enough for a crochet Cardigan that's big enough to fit me. Crochet takes more yarn than knitting and I'm not even sure I could knit a Cardigan big enough for me out of it either. Unfooooortunately, this was one of my first dye experiments and I'm not 100% sure I took notes. I will have to check.
The yellow all I have is this half a skein of what I think is Madelinetosh Merino light in colorway Candlewick. Idk i've had it for literally a decade. But I think it'll be enough because I don't plan on having moons or suns on every square. I'm planning on alternating between four small squares sewn together where two are plain blue and two are patterned, and one big Granny square. I would draw what I mean but I am too tired to do that right now.
It took all of my self control to not buy the pattern today. It's only $5.25 CAD which is like $3.97USD/€3.65. But my gf got fired so I'm trying to keep frivolous spending to a minimum. I considered asking if a fiber arts mutual would buy it for me but honestly what they all SHOULD be doing is spraying me like a naughty cat whenever I talk about starting a new project before winter holiday gifts are done.
#man looking at the madelinetosh website is DANGEROUS#they have a colorway called kenergy and it's RIGHT up my alley#madelinetosh merino light is my absolute favorite yarn line. it's single ply and SO squishy#celestial cardigan#v's fiber arts tag#single ply yarn my beloved

i've always known when I started buying yarn from independent spinners and dyers it would become a problem. there's a certain rush that comes with knowing that the yarn you bought comes from a blue-faced leicester sheep called Trudy.
#but now i have to wait a couple weeks while they dye it#and whoops my hand slipped and i joined their yarn club so now i have 2x100g skeins of yarn in different but coordinating colorways#being delivered every month. for the entirety of 2025#HEEEEEELLLLPPPP#lo said#so i make a jumper or a blanket? we shall see when I get the first set

I've always wanted to make a full size blanket or a bedspread, so I'm promising myself now: 2025 will be the year I finally commit to crocheting a temperature blanket.
Yes, it'll be pretty expensive. Yes, it'll take a long time. Yes, it's a big commitment. But I've wanted to make something similar for years, and what is squirreled away "fun money" for if not to indulge in hobbies, goddamn it.
#squirrel speaks#i've kinda designed a colorway already#and it'll probably end up being a linen stitch blanket with a slightly larger hook; like a 5 mm#i've looked at many stitches now but many just seem very busy for something with so many colors#and i prefer it over a moss stitch#the only reason it kind of sucks because i'm weirdly antsy?? like. i'll have to buy so much fucking yarn#i kinda wanna test at least a few rows in a color i already have of the same line; just to get a gauge#....... probably gonna do that#i kinda want to reblog this post with progress every month to keep myself accountable or something; idk#I DON'T KNOW GONNA HAVE TO SEE HOW MUCH THE YARN IS GONNA BE

Me: a desiccated husk, eternally caught between “sick enough I’m miserable but healthy enough it’s not worth taking medication for,” feeling the anxiety about updating, applying for jobs I don’t want, stressing about whether or not to take the classes I need for a graduate program I’m not sure I want to commit to with a deadline fast approaching
Also me: you know what would fix me? Spending oodles of money on yarn so I can knit a fancy sweater
#malabrigo rios in the pines colorway is just so damn beautiful#hides existing piles of yarn and fabric back in the hyperfixation abandoned hobbies pile#delta.txt

the other gift they got me is a very lovely sunset color hand-dyed 8/2 tencel cotton warp. putting them two for two on buying me incredibly on-point well-chosen yarn for my birthday despite the fact that they have no interest in fibercraft themself and have only ever researched it to get me gifts.
#a few years ago they got me a cashmere/alpaca/silk blend that i had actually previously knit with and loved in another colorway#unbeknownst to them!#they apparently got advice from the yarn store people to make sure they knew what terminology corresponded to the yarn weight i would want#but picked the specific yarn out themself purely on grounds of their own taste and what fiber qualities i had talked about liking#it's literally so romantic.#box opener

Split for sleeves n decided to do sleeves first instead of the body like i usually do. Cause i dont feel like playing yarn chicken :p
#other#t talks#crochet#ill finish the second sleeve tomorrow n then from there is working the body till i run out of yarn :)#then i will make 1 more cardigan. this time knit with the brown colorway of this yarn#n then i can see over the course of a year which stitch / craft type works best with this yarn :)#cause i love buying the anniversary cakes. ive bought them every year since 2020#but ive only ever used just plain double crochet n. it doesnt hold up very well over time. the stitches are just too loose for a roving yarn#so. this year im making shit with a bunch of diff types of stitches n crafts. knitting crochet n tunisian crochet.#to see which ill be using as my new default for projects going forward :)

I bought the Bittersweet cowl pattern (check it out on Ravelry, it’s got this cute almost Robin Hood-ish vibe) a while back but never had the right yarn for it and it languished in my “I want to knit that” collection. Then I bought 2 skeins of Malabrigo Chunky even though as a non-superwash yarn I couldn’t use it for Hats for Sailors and I had no set project in mind but the feels, the color! (It’s Whales Road which I’ve used in a pair of socks and several hats, so I am established as a lover of this colorway.) Guess what: it was the perfect weight and just the right amount for the cowl (my leftover scrap is about 30” long). Success!
This was my first end-of-day stopping point and I wrapped it up in another 2 days of intermittent knitting and now it’s drying (so slowly) after its wet blocking. But it will be glorious (and did I mention cute?) to wear tomorrow and throughout our current/upcoming arctic cold snap. It also looked cute on the husband, but he’s not a fan of things around his face unless they’re snug and this is cozily loose and drapey.

The warmest colorway I've made so far?
Love Potion~
This was fun to blend the colors out! I mostly work with blues and greens, so it can be a real challenge for me to find colorways that really inspire me without blue...
These are up for grabs on my Ko-Fi shop!

I ripped out the Moonless Pullover I'd started (RIP, the yarn is a great color, too bad it's not fit for purpose) and started a Filigree Tee, designed by Julie Knits in Paris! I'm enjoying working on something small, lightweight, and simple after months of working on a complicated blanket that weighed multiple pounds by the time it was finished. The Blanket of Doom was definitely worth it, but I am beyond glad to be out of Endless Blanket Nightmare Land! Pro tip, don't crochet a worsted weight queen size blanket in summer time. Maybe don't do it at any time, ever. ...maybe I'm a hypocrite who's already considering making another one because there's a super cool pattern I really like.
#buttercupyarnart#julie knits in paris#yarn#knitting#crafting#diy#yarn art#fiber art#fibre art#slow fashion#fat knitting#plus size knitting#hand knit tee#the colorway is called strawberry and that's the entire reason i bought it#i also got some better yarn for the moonless pullover#it's a very similar color but hand dyed so not completely solid#it's super pretty and i can't wait to have it in hand

I decided to get back into knitting over the weekend (after 10-11 years of not knitting at all) and--in a remarkable show of self-restraint--decided to just use what I still had in stash and make a basic scarf to get back into the rhythm of things.
Friends? I have nearly THREE skiens of fucking lion brand homespun to get through. T_T
#knitting#i hate this yarn so much#pardon the terrible photo#my phone does not like this colorway#i bought this yarn ages ago to make a shawl for a friend#the shawl was completed but I swore NEVER AGAIN#and yet here I am

Books of 2024: DAYSWORK by Chris Bachelder and Jennifer Habel.
Up next! This was an impulse buy (the authors had an event at a bookstore I frequent; serendipity), but the cover was enchanting and I'm fascinated by the structure--the whole book looks like little prose vignettes.
Featuring my own dayswork as of late: knittery! I made a cowl for myself so I don't have to battle with a scarf when I just want something easy between my sinuses and the winter air, especially when it's as cold as it was this weekend ("feels like -11°F" was a very persuasive argument against getting out of bed, but the birds needed me). At least the snow on the frozen pond was pretty!
