It is Scavenger Sunday and this turkey vulture is flying low over a rocky island that is popular with the seabirds at Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area along the Oregon coast. This was taken in June 2024 when the brown pelicans have normally moved south to their breeding range along the California coast, but poor conditions there have them spending time in unusual places (like Oregon).

I’m sorry but this video does zero justice to just how amazing and LOUD this sound is. It’s like being inside a rock tumblr. It’s i’m-standing-next-to-you-and-i-have-to-raise-my-voice-loud. It is my three year old had a fucking fit and no one noticed on a beach full of people because it is so goddamn loud.

And also, the tide pooling there is UNREAL. Urchins and octopus and starfish and nudibranch and EAGLES and seals and omg PELICANS.

Also if you take a rock from Cobble Stone beach you get cursed.
