The sequel to Girls of Paper and Fire, this beautifully LGBTQIA+ Asian mythology inspired fantasy is deeply rich in setting and characters. Something I loved and still love about this series are the characters. Every single one had so many layers, flaws and depth. Their interactions with friends and enemies were incredibly fascinating, and the relationship arcs were realistic and evocative. I very much enjoyed the inclusion of the maps, and the reminder of the caste rankings and characteristics, without making it repetitive. Ngan has a beautiful way with words, and every setting and description was described lyrically.
