Reign of Chains is a fantasy comic series set in the fictional realm of Elvir. It began with my comic Broken Crown, which was a Lion King fanstory. I've done my best to ensure that reading Broken Crown prior to this is not required, but it does offer more insight to the plot as things progress!

These pages acts as the start of Broken Crown's chapter five but can also be read as the first page of its standalone story.

Hello!

Was on the comic wiki and noticed that under gender characters are listed as either AMAB or AFAB.

I'm absolutely sure that whoever set it up was doing so to try and be inclusive, but amongst wider trans spaces it's a bit weird to have your actual gender ignored and be referred to by whatever your AGAB is. It'd probably be suggesting they go for male/female/nonbinary (or man/woman/nonbinary), and adding trans as a prefix if it's thought to be necessary rather than going by character AGAB.

I've always appreciated the inclusion of trans and nonbinary characters in your work! And I don't want this to read as a huge dunk/attack on whoever set the wiki up; every trans person I know fucks up language around this stuff on occasion, it can be complicated. + I'm well aware the wiki is a labour of love on the community's part more than anything else. Just wanted to point this out to possibly get passed along.

I'm curious, was your plan always to shift away from TLK and move into Reign of Chains when you started writing Broken Crown? I'm very excited for what comes next but I'm also a bit confused (though I'm sure future pages will make me less confused so I'm on the edge of my seat) as there's still some things unresolved in the Broken Crown universe. I know you probably can't say much due to spoilers but! I appreciate anything you can say and I want you to know how much I love your comics! Tysm!

So, no... But yes. When I first started Broken Crown in 2018 I didn't even know if I was going to be able to stick to regular uploads or if it was going to be one of those projects that got maybe a few pages in before fading off. That happens to a lot of comics and it's not a ding to any project - writing and drawing and keeping motivation going is hard and it's something you really have to practice to stay on top of.

Heck I think if you look at upload dates from the early pages there were hiatus periods of a couple months where I thought I had given up on continuing. ngl back then I used spite towards myself as a motivator to pick the comic back up, it was a personal goal of mine to not quit entirely.

I've known since sometime around 2020 that I wanted to do Broken Crown as an original story that didn't end with putting the TLK cast where they needed to be in order for the movie canon to still be possible. I think (and this is me musing to the best of my memory since I didn't think to record my thought process at the time) that I spent a chunk of that year debating what to do about that and, if I were to go through with it, how I could go about doing it.

From 2021-2022 I did a lot of thinking and plotting about the hows and whys, and 2023 did the 'heavy lifting' prepping for the change officially.

I'm really, REALLY excited to finally be putting all of this out there publicly now!!

I had such a weird dream about this comic: like Fina woke up and a lot of the pride was done there for some reason, some lazing around and some questioning others.

Takaza was being questioned and Zira was putting her ear in a waterfall for some reason.

Sarafina was kinda just walking through the chaos to Takaza then someone said “Seize her!”

Dreams are interesting for sure

Whatever you ate before bed that night I'd like some lmao that sounds like a fun B-plot
