“The Grief” (2018) from self-taught Gabonese photographer @yannisdavy. The main goal of the 25 year old Montréal, Canada-based artist - who was born in France - is to represent Africans in an entirely fresh and contemporary manner that is as familiar as it is 'new' to the 21st century beholder. — As I discover more and more cool spaces, I also find new ways to interpret my vision. The weather in Toronto is getting better and I’m excited for what the future will bring. #nowahala
“Lagbaja” (2021) is a story about duality and femininity represented in the cowries worn by both models. By using cowries as central pieces and strong cultural markers, an homage is paid to African femininity and its ties to culture, tradition and spirituality. As a central piece, the hope is to give deeper insight on the cultural significance of this item common both on the continent and its diaspora.”

The second photo is a wider shot of the second model in profile; they are wearing a shorter veil made of cowries that allows their eyes to be seen, while the rest of their face is covered.]
