WORST Characters x Reader
Featuring Tsukishima Hana, Kawachi Tesshou, Hisashi Amachi, the Muroto Brothers, Tsukimoto Mitsumasa and a reader in her senior year of high school.
If you’re not familiar with the characters and want to give it a try: it’s high school delinquents, the leader of a biker gang and a pair of hired thugs that got out of juvie. (Once again I’m begging y’all to read the manga so I can share my delinquent daydreams with other people ;-;)
Tumblr media
Tsukishima Hana
Hana is such a sweet and honest boyfriend. At first he can’t even tell he’s in love with you. He really enjoys spending time with you, just like he does with his other friends, like Sakota, Renji, Tora, Takumi…Which can only mean you’re also part of the group. Right? It takes a whole intervention for him to understand it’s an entirely different feeling. The rest of the Umehoshi household members are gathered around the table and offer him examples to make it clear: he wouldn’t hold Sakota’s hand and Tora would probably be dead if he tried to kiss him on the cheek (not that he’d ever want to, anyways). So no, whatever he has with poor (Y/N) is not just friendship. It finally clicks.
He will be very shy initially. He’s barely interacted with girls before and has no idea how to handle you. Before he would just treat you like any of his friends, but as a girlfriend? He’s a fumbling mess. Once he becomes comfortable with the idea, he’s extremely affectionate. He’ll insist on holding your hand everywhere and loudly introduce you as his girlfriend to everyone. Often he’ll get an incredulous reaction of “How the hell did you pull someone like her?” and he’ll scratch the back of his head, goofy and proud. He has no idea either.
Hana can’t wait to introduce you to his grandma. You know once things get serious he’ll insist on bringing you to his village in the middle of nowhere. Unlike the time Tora accompanied him, though, he’ll be hovering all over you making sure you’re not tired or uncomfortable. The moment your breathing becomes audible from the effort he’ll pick you up and carry you the remaining way. He lives to serve you.
Kawachi Tesshou
Similar to Hana, Tesshou is incredibly awkward and wary of you at first. He’s head over heels the instant he meets you, but the idea of dating you is just too ridiculous to him. He might be the leader of a fearsome biker gang, but when it comes to you he feels like a scoundrel that has no business being around a pretty girl. So there’s two possibilities: either the other members will eventually let him know he’s an idiot and should just ask you out already, or you’ll have to confess first. He’ll stare at you in disbelief and ask you to repeat yourself several times, wondering if you’re joking or just teasing him, his blush gradually turning into a deep red.
Let us assume that no tragedy happens in this scenario. Tesshou is extra careful on his bike and he frequently takes you on rides, so he can’t afford any accidents. Now that you’re dating, he might as well be a cool boyfriend for you, eh? He likes to wait for you outside the school or part time job, resting against his motorcycle as people pass by whispering and glancing over. He wants everyone to know you’re his.
Naturally you’re now a package deal, so you often hang out with him at the junkyard belonging to TFOA. If you sneeze or mention it’s getting cold, he’ll instantly rip his jacket off and carefully place it over your shoulders. He’s thought of getting you your own custom leather jacket, but if he’s being honest, he just loves having you wear his instead. It emphasizes your small frame compared to his, and afterwards it will smell just like you. The other guys may or may not be planning his assassination, having to deal with his constant cocky grin and offhanded comments about having a cute girlfriend. Sometimes they will tease him by approaching you with “Hey (Y/N), if Tesshou’s ever being an asshole, you can always date me instead.”
Hisashi Amachi
In a way, Amachi acts a lot like a spoiled child. Things must go his way and rejection only challenges him to press further. So if he sets his eyes on you, in his mind, you either accept it now or after some convincing, but at the end of the day it will be a yes. He has money and authority, what else could you possibly want? So his initial approach will be rather cocky, mainly focusing on impressing you with his plans of ruling the city. Once his army crumbles and he loses to Hana, he finally begins to accept that you’re not with him for money or influence. He will be terribly frustrated and ashamed for losing, although this motivates him to try harder for your sake. He’s not like his father. You’re his reason to continue living no matter what.
I feel like he has the biggest potential as a yandere. He probably has significant trauma around abandonment and would immediately cling to you once in love, but in a not so obvious way. He doesn’t want you to see him as weak or needy, so instead he’ll act jealous and possessive towards anyone that could pose a threat. Hell, he might even doubt his own subordinates. He needs the occasional reassurance and secretly adores being praised by you. He wants to be the kind of man you trust with your life.
Amachi is more of a stoic boyfriend and prefers to listen to you talking, quietly going along with whatever you’re doing. While he has dropped his arrogant act, he still has some leftover tendencies, mostly in the shape of gift giving. Every now and then he’ll show up with some ridiculously expensive item he thought you’d like. Old habits die hard. Especially when they involve spoiling his Princess. I suspect he might be into slightly kinky jewelry, like dainty necklaces that need a key to be opened. He enjoys the visible, tangible proof of owning you.
Muroto Zenmei & Koumei
Now, the Arson brothers were paid for a very specific task. That doesn’t mean, however, they can’t take their time and have some fun while at it. The town has plenty of cute girls, but you really caught their attention. And they’re not very fond of sharing, but they can always figure it out as they go. What’s certain is that they won’t give up easily in their almost predatory pursuit.
Koumei is the more reserved sibling. He’s a bit cautious about parading you around, because he doesn’t want to put you in any danger. He has a lot of enemies and he worries about you becoming a potential target. That’s not to say he wouldn’t be able to protect you, he does have quite the reputation after all. He’s a bit clumsy when it comes to romance, but he does his best to spoil you. He’s always been preoccupied with fighting, so he hasn’t really considered the scenario of having a girlfriend. If he’s completely honest, he didn’t even expect you to actually accept his confession given he’s…well…the worst of the worst. Worry not, you won’t regret it. He’ll prove to you no other guy compares.
Zenmei is the cockier sibling. If he had patience or self-control, he wouldn’t have landed in juvie. He wants you and he won’t make it a secret. In fact, he’s a big fan of PDA and loves letting everyone know you’re his. Your designated seat whenever you’re with him is his lap. He’s not too worried about others harming you because either him or his twin lackeys will always have you under their watch. Additionally, who would be mad enough to mess with the girlfriend of Muroto Zenmei? Most small fries will cross to the other side of the street if they see you. And you can’t blame them, really. Zenmei can be very territorial and dominant. He can’t help it. You’re his pretty little thing.
Tsukimoto Mitsumasa
Mitsumasa has two younger sisters, so he’s probably the most relaxed when it comes to approaching you. He can be very charismatic if he wants to, and what better motivation than the girl of his dreams? I also feel like he’d be so easygoing in general. He’s one of the strongest students in Housen, yet one wouldn’t know it when he’s with you. He’s all smiles as you brush and braid his hair, occasionally blushing at your compliments. God forbid anyone messes with you, though.
His biggest hurdle are his brothers. It’s an inside joke that in terms of looks, he’s the least threatening. They didn’t expect the statement to come bite them in the ass once the blonde brings you home for dinner, introducing you as his girlfriend. His mom is over the moon and immediately begins to call you “daughter in law” (to Mitsumasa’s great embarrassment), occasionally asking you if her son didn’t somehow coerce you to date him. You reassure her awkwardly while simultaneously avoiding the burning stare of the other boys. “This bastard, landing a cute girlfriend out of nowhere” is the unified inner monologue at the table. You don’t know it yet, but poor Mitsumasa will be harshly interrogated after your departure.
Bonus points if you like playing video games or have nerdy interests. Mitsumasa spends most of his time playing, so he would absolutely love to share this hobby with you. Then he could spend his lazy days with you in his arms as he finishes quests or levels up, and you could do your own thing, whether reading, watching something or also playing a video game. As long as you’re cuddling him. He’ll be giddy all day in anticipation and can’t wait to hang out with you. Even better, he gets to brag about it the next day. He’ll yawn dramatically and apologize with a cheeky grin: “Sorry guys, I was up all night with (Y/N). Time sure flies when you’re having fun, you know~?”

Would you say that Bucchigiri is Utsumi's sophomore slump (coming off of SK8)? I was hoping for so much from this one, and yet it seemed like she and Taku Kishimoto were making so many wrong decisions here during its production. MAPPA's influence probably didn't help matters either.
Well, according to Utsumi from the Spoon 2.di article I read, she didn't really know what to make with this one so it was kind of a group project. She really wanted to make SK8 and she asked for pretty much all the staff that worked with her on it personally. It was very much a passion project for her.
For this one this one she said she was already making SK8 and didn't know what to make when they asked her to make another original series, so she discussed it with the producers at MAPPA and they all agreed on a yanki show, and then it took them a long time to decide on the Arabian Nights theme after that. She suggested a few different ideas and the other producers decided they liked the Arabian Nights theme best. She was assigned Kishimoto to be the writer, but she hadn't met him before. Things like that.
Here's something from the interview with Kishimoto in Spoon 2.di 107
Q: Kishimoto-san, it seems that you initially proposed a bit cooler story but Utsumi-san asked you to add some comedy to it. How did you feel when you heard that request? A: If I had to say, I've had a lot more work reorganizing and rearranging the structure of manga to adapt it into an anime. I'm not the type of person who naturally has a lot of stories and characters bubbling out of me, so when I make things I unconsciously drift toward making formulaic stories of cool heroes who always win. When I do that though, the characters I make are very stereotypical, and so when I submitted the first draft to director Utsumi and MAPPA's Otsuka-san, they said "The flow of the story is good, but the characters feel really stereotypical." It was then I was asked, "What were you like when you were Arajin's age?" I wasn't good-looking, so I figured if I just directly confessed to a girl I liked I'd be rejected, and so I thought I had to try even harder than other people. I'd give girls poems, and if that didn't work I'd carve the girl's name into a stone and give it to them, and I made it my goal in life to make that girl love me. So I told them I really couldn't be used as a reference for anything. But when I said that, they said "That's so interesting!" I felt like someone like that could never be a main character, or rather, I had ruled it out because I felt like it would be crazy to have a main character who acted like that! Since I was rejected for being so creepy in real life, after all (lol). But the two of them said it was interesting, so Arajin's weird parts became my weird parts and by adding my weird parts into him, it naturally became a comedy. So, rather than trying to write a comedy or making it become a comedy, I just added my own silly parts in order to give the character a personality, and it ended up developing into that because of the character's personality.
So the whole reason Arajin is who he is (someone everyone hates lol....) is because he's based off Kishimoto himself. I don't know what the story was like before but I really can't agree the flow of the story is good now... but yeah.... that's how we ended up here.

So, uh, just reread "chapter"all it takes is one bad day" and does Twice have pure white pupils and irises like AFO supposedly does? Like, I haven't seen any clear official art of his eyes, but in the one back cover of him they look like they're pure white?
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
At this point I'm just going to have to make an entire essay on how we should be reading Japanese media with an understanding of cultural and class markers. No, Jin does not have the same eyes or similar eyes to AFO. Yes, there's connections with Jin and AFO but that's another topic. 1. AFO's eye color hasn't been really confirmed aside from that one WSJ cover that implies they can be clear and white. 2. That's not what the "something about my eyes rubs people the wrong way" means. This is what I mean about the cultural context being missing from most of us Western-readers and how we just don't get reading the manga with no guide to explain small details to us. I also wish Jin was just popular so I don't feel like I'm the only one in the fandom yammering about the ridiculous amount of depth he has as a character and in his storyline. First off, Jin's eyes are sunken in, his features abnormally "chiseled" and rough for an anime character. By the time we meet him he looks like he's had a hard life but we also find out in flashbacks he always kind of looked like that.
Tumblr media
He's unkempt - stubbled, has the sunken eyes and dark eyebags the villains are generally drawn with. He smokes, drinks, wears a wife beater, has no eyebrows, and used to ride a motorcycle. All these things are a red flag. This is where "you really need to be familiar with Japanese media before you read BNHA" comes in, Jin, while drawing from several different Western comic characters (John Constantine, Deadpool, Rorschach), is also neatly fitting into the yanki and bosuzoku (sorta) trope. Or Japanese delinquents. What throws people "off" is the lack of eyebrows. Yanki are traditionally portrayed with no eyebrows. This link here explains that at sight a delinquent can be identified with shaved eyebrows. This is why so many villainous or rough characters are eyebrowless. It's like the Japanese equivalent of giving villains twirly mustaches and goatees - something about the imagery of that already implies villain in our minds, whereas the lack of eyebrows implies delinquent/criminal in the Japanese cultural imagination (in modern day settings. Heian-era eyebrow-lessness is a different story/class marker).
Tumblr media
He's also blonde, or "chapatsu" which is also another "Delinquent" trope in Japan - many delinquents in the 70s-90s bleached their hair to this yellow or orange color (hence "cha" which obviously means tea/chai). Japanese schools are infamously awful at allowing for self-expression to the point where naturally brown-haired students can be forced to dye their hair, and chapatsu hair was a marker of a rebellious/delinquent student. Twice isn't the only one who Horikoshi uses this trope for. Tomura, for example, really had the "up to no good" look early on even if I think he's more of a homebody.
Tumblr media
You know who else?
Tumblr media
Huh, interesting, given Takami's a murderous professional career thief alcoholic. Wait a minute, wasn't Jin was one of the greatest Japanese thieves until his accident, I wonder exactly what Horikoshi meant by making Thief Takami have a similarly unkempt appearance, rough rugged facial features, and barely any brows? Wait -
Tumblr media
Something to understand is that we've gotten information from Yoco Akiyama in TUM about how the main manga's design process works and apparently the facial feature consistency is really important for the artists. Thus the fact Keigo's parents were designed with: 1. Rough, sunken features (Thief & Jin) 2. Unkempt facial fair (Thief & JIn) 3. Deep eyebags (Jin & Tomie) 4. Similarly disordered filthy homes (Takami fam & Jin) 5. Beer Bottles lying around everywhere (Takami fam & Jin) 6. Small, beady eyes with little pupils (Takami Fam & Jin) 7. Grey-Blue Eyes (Tomie & Jin) 8. Clear mental instability (Tomie & Jin) Was absolutely intentional. For all that we see Keigo's parents, Horikoshi knowingly designed them to resemble Jin. Again, Jin was Keigo's villain to save. Keigo was Jin's hero. Keigo failed because we needed a character to fail to save "their villain". Both Keigo and Jin have clear working-class background and criminal class markers. These things tie them together, these marginalized identifications make their relationship something that should have worked. If we want an in-universe reason for Keigo's focus on Jin, it's absolutely true he likely (subconciously) saw his parents superficially reflected in Jin, and decided to "save" him because he was unable to save his parents. Of course, that was not only presumptuous, it was also wrong because Jin is not a stand-in for Keigo's parents (and unlike them is a decent person). Anyway, yeah, no Jin's design/looks made him look like a "thug" to people in his community. That's why he had issues and that's what his comment meant. People's biases about people who look like Twice made him just get...away less. If someone "looks like a thug" you will try to make connections that justify that bias. That's why things like his motorcycle accident hurt him so much. He was uneducated, likely a middle-school dropout, fired from a job, had a record and had "bad vibes". Who'd hire him? Can you understand why Jin was doomed into having to survive as a criminal? Society decided he was meant to fail years before he did fail. So much of BNHA is about people falling into traps of pre-determined outcomes. Jin's tragically so.

Here’s the first draft of the beginning of my newest story, if anyone would like to check it out and let me know what you think! I’m really excited about it, because it feels very *me*, like there’s a lot of things in it that feel like my cup of tea. I’ve written some stories where I’m like “why am I writing this? I don’t even like this subject”, so this one is a lot better! Since it has two settings that intermingle, it allows me to embrace multiple aesthetics and lifestyles that I enjoy! I definitely plan to change some things from what you see here. I just came up with something that happens before the events that are written down here. For the most part, the final version probably won’t be too different from this, since I like this one, and I figure “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it”. I’m getting a lot of ideas, but I mostly want to flesh out the beginning more before I continue. Anyway, this is a gender bender body swap story where a Victorian lady and a Japanese yanki switch places and find love in each other’s worlds. I hope you like it as much as I do! I’m questioning whether to change the title to The Princess Is The Punk. Which do you prefer? Also, as usual with my stories, I can’t decide whether to make it a manga or a novel, so I’ll probably start with a novel since that’s easier, and then make a manga out of it later. That way the story will be fully fleshed out before I start drawing. Although I did draw a scene in comic format today. Whoops.

Could I perhaps request something with Guriko from Worst? Maybe foreigner S/O that makes him work for her number or attention? I just need a sassy girl who doesn’t put up with his shit lol
Oof, I was trying to avoid Guriko at all costs. Not because I don’t like him or anything, but I was faced with the dilemma of whether I should stick to the 8-girlfriend-harem or whip him into monogamy. Would he still be the true Guriko, then? That’s the trouble. But the way you worded it, I’m tempted to go for the latter. Additionally, if it’s alright with you, I’ll be using this as the opportunity to do even more character headcanons. Hence the delay. ^^"
WORST Characters x Reader (II)
Featuring Hanaki Guriko, Kurosawa Kazumitsu, Nara Akira, Higuchi Shuuji and a new-in-town Reader who grabs their attention.
Come get your delinquent boy content! I included photos for those who don't know the characters. (Once again my attempt to advertise old school manga because there's not enough of us out there)
Content: female reader, foreigner reader, Japanese delinquents, everyone is 18+
Tumblr media
Hanaki Guriko
Uh oh. Whatever Eriko-chan was complaining about is no longer registered by Guriko's ears. He's holding the phone away from his ear, frozen in place. Are his eyes deceiving him, or is a cute foreigner sitting by herself just a few steps ahead? Without a word he hangs up and shoves the device in his pocket. Sorry, Eriko-chan, he can't miss this chance of a lifetime. He approaches you with a predatory smirk and questions with furrowed brows how a hottie like you ended up alone. You glare at him with a bored expression and assure him you can speak Japanese just fine. Even better. He slides next to you and introduces himself, reaching for a handshake. "(Y/N)." Is all you respond. "A pretty name for a pretty girl, eh?" He retorts, smugly. "You know...Not to intrude or anything, but I might've been more impressed with your flirting if I didn't just hear you talking on the phone with a girl, calling her 'baby'." Ah. Damn it.
"And? What did you tell her?" Kurosawa is leaning against the wall, holding the cigarette between his lips. Naturally, he was the first to hear about Guriko's complaints. To whom else could he have whined? His girlfriends? "I tried to explain it's my little cousin." He pouts a little, then continues. "She started laughing and said next time she won't forget her clown nose." Kurosawa chuckles at the image and gives his friend a sympathetic pat on the shoulder. "That's what you get for trying to pull this shit on a foreigner." The man, however, straightens his back and crosses his arms, with a glint of determination in his eyes. "Nah. I still have a chance. She said 'next time', didn't she?" The strongest man in town isn't about to shy away from a challenge when it arises. Once he has his eyes on something, giving up is no longer part of the vocabulary. He'll win you over one way or another.
...Even if it means paying for it dearly. "C-can you repeat that, please?" He mumbles in a sheepish voice, turning pale. As luck would have it, you happen to live on the same street as the Umehoshi Household. Which made it easier for him to find you again, but it also means you've been briefed on his situation by the Suzuran boys that were eager to get their revenge for his scummy behavior. "I think you heard me just fine, you shameless horndog. If you insist on dating, you can't keep your harem of girlfriends." You stipulate with a scowl. He closes his eyes, weighing the options. You are hot, and he does like your attitude. Is it worth ditching everyone else for it? After a moment of contemplation, he shakes his head solemnly. "Alright. I'll break up with them right now as you watch. But that makes us official. Deal?"
You're wondering if this was to your advantage, after all. Against your expectations, Guriko is a very involved and caring boyfriend; having all those girlfriends before you certainly paid off, as he knows exactly how to spoil you and can read you frustratingly well. On the other hand...you're not sure if you can get used to the reputation. True to his word, he has made it very clear you're his girlfriend and so it's not uncommon for you to bump into someone and have them beg for forgiveness, muttering something about being the Demon's woman. "What exactly have you done to have people this terrified of you?" you ask, baffled, during one of your dates. "Didn't I tell you?" he states proudly, throwing an arm over your shoulders. "I'm the strongest around! Only the best of the best for Miss (Y/N)." You blush at the words, but before you can open your mouth he adds: "Also, can I come over to your place tonight? I don't want to spoil the fun, but I got you something to wear for me~" Nevermind. You ruffle his hair with a groan. "I should put a collar on you, like the dog in heat you are." You conclude.
Tumblr media
Kurosawa Kazumitsu
Christ, what the hell is he doing? Kurosawa is pacing back and forth, taking another drag on his cigarette. Earlier this week Guriko approached him with an idiotic grin on his face, begging for a favor. One of his girls had befriended a foreigner and they didn't want her to be the third wheel. Somehow he was conned into some sort of a double date with a complete stranger. He whips out his phone and is about to text the bastard he changed his mind, but it's too late. He hears that annoying voice calling him: "Yo, Kurosar~" and then, to someone else: "That's the guy. He looks scary, but he's just an awkward loner, heheheh". Kurosawa turns around, opening his mouth to bark a proper comeback, though he is quickly silenced one his eyes meet yours. He did not expect to instantly fall for you.
The fact that you're good-looking obviously makes matters even worse. He's not much of a talker to begin with, and now he feels like someone just gave him an uppercut straight into the jaw and twirled his brain into mush. "So, you went to Suzuran?" You ask politely, sitting next to him at the table. "Y-yeah?" he mutters, dumbfounded. Why the hell did he phrase it like a question!? His heart is threatening to burst out of his chest and he's twisting and turning the chopsticks in an attempt to calm down. It doesn't help that Guriko is in his own little world right now, baby talking to his girlfriend like the two of you are invisible. Maybe he should spare you the disturbing view. "I'm going out for a smoke. Wanna join?" He finally manages to state with some regained confidence. Outside he can exhale in relief. "Sorry, I don't like groups that much." He explains, and you nod in agreement. Would Guriko even notice if the two of you were to sneak away? Worth a try.
And so he finds himself walking you through town and lastly back to your place. It's only common sense to take your date back home safely. Right? He can only guess, as he's never been in this situation before. "Well, it was nice hanging out with you." He says as he turns away. He can definitely imagine your delight to be done with this overall awkward, spontaneous date with a shady looking guy like him. "That's all?" You inquire, raising your eyebrows. He freezes. Did he forget something? He faces you with a confused expression. "What, don't tell me you want to exchange numbers or something." You stare at him expectantly. Oh.
Kurosawa is the typical cool and laid-back boyfriend. Compared to the other delinquents, he prefers to keep to himself, so most of his free time will be spent with you. He's also rather stoic and prefers to listen to you talk. He's not too expressive and tends to show his affection through physical gestures rather than words, like hugging you from behind or giving you a quick kiss on the forehead. Surprisingly, he can be quite jealous and if he sees someone trying to flirt with you he won't even bother to give any warnings, he'll knock them out and proceed with his day as if nothing happened.
Tumblr media
Nara Akira
"Cool bike." Akira doesn't immediately respond to the comment behind him, doing a final check on the engine. Probably some curious brat anyways, so he just mumbles a thank you. Finally he gets up, wipes his hands and turns around. Once he realizes who spoke to him, he nearly chokes. Oh, God. He's had a dream or two involving girls, but none dared to venture as far as a cute foreigner suddenly hitting him up. "Uh...Are you okay?" You ask, raising your eyebrows in mild worry. He realizes he's been staring like an idiot, with his mouth wide open. "Yeah, sorry about that." He fumbles to reply. Fuck. How the hell do you talk to women? He scratches his now burning cheek, trying to come up with something else to say. Thankfully you spare him the torment and casually follow up with questions about his custom motorcycle and printed leather jacket. He answers with way too many details, trying to drag it on for long enough to figure out a way to ask for your number.
Not as smooth as he would've preferred (he ended up stuttering it right before you left), nonetheless his first ever female contact outside his mom and relatives is now in his possession. He returns to the junkyard and greets the others with a lazy sway of the arm, whistling. "What's with that shit eating grin?" One of the Armament guys inquires. "Oh, nothing, nothing. Sorry for being late." Akira answers casually. "Late for what? We're not doing anything", the other man retorts, incredulous. "It's just, you know, I would've arrived sooner if it wasn't for this girl complimenting my bike..." he finally makes his point, smoothening his hair. The place goes quiet and even Shougo has to walk out of the shed, not believing his ears. "What did you say?"He retells the story like an apostle before his followers, omitting his anxiety and pitiful attempts.
Although all the bragging will have been in vain if nothing else comes out of it. So after a lot of coaching and teamwork (the rest of the bikers are just as invested now) he manages to type out a message to ask you out on a date. He sends the text with the somberness of a president signing off a historical document before the masses (the guys don't believe he can pull it off). Shortly afterwards they all gaze at the affirmative response peppered with cute emojis, mesmerized. Is this what it's like to talk to a girl?
Akira is a little clumsy when it comes to romance, even though he has the best intentions at heart. He's not the most chiseled and often forgets you're with him when some other guy is looking for trouble. Even among the Front of Armament he has a reputation for being reckless and violent. Thankfully, he is not without help. Occasionally he will surprise you with unexpectedly thoughtful gestures; Takumi has taken it upon himself to discipline your boyfriend. All you need is a little bit of patience. In his mind, Akira doesn't have the looks nor the brains, he's just strong. Thus his only way of proving his worth to you is by fighting other people.
Just a funny interaction I thought of: During the war with E.M.O.D., Akira becomes somewhat fidgety and nervous and eventually asks you if you find Muneharu to be handsome. You cross your arms and frown. "If there's one thing I hate in this world, it's guys that are popular with chicks. Makes me wanna vomit." You argue with a grimace. Akira has to look away and cover his burning face. That's...that's his catchphrase. Is it too early to look for a ring? Because he's officially decided you're the one.
Tumblr media
Higuchi Shuuji
The men throw Hana a doubtful look. "Oi, are you sure about this...? We're not going on a holiday. We're about to fight the Manji Empire!" Mitsumasa finally words out everyone's worry. The Suzuran senior laughs and pulls the hood over your head. "It's fine, it's fine! No one can tell it's a girl. And if they find out, I'll take care of it." You smile nervously and ask again if it really is okay to join them. You were curious to see the supposedly strongest gang in Japan, but you don't want to be a burden. "Do what you want, I don't care either way." Is what Amachi concludes, walking ahead. Muneharu quietly observes the ongoing argument. To be quite honest with himself, there's only one thing bothering him presently: how the hell did these guys befriend a cute foreigner girl?
You sheepishly follow after the team and into the building. This is where the matches should take place in order to settle the conflict between all the parties. Soon enough it's Amachi's turn to fight, and a man with cornrows and patterned shirt steps forward. He barks something about fairness, that he's not going to fight an injured man (pointing at Amachi's bandaged face). Then, he swiftly proceeds to smash his own head against a pillar and you gasp in shock. That's one way to make it equal, you think to yourself. "That's Higuchi Shuuji, leader of the Zento group." Sera whispers in your ear, seeing your surprise. "Has a hot temper apparently." You nod. That's...a mild description. Despite the bleeding forehead he joins the fight, completely unbothered. Although it quickly becomes obvious the brief contact with concrete is taking a toll on his body. The fight doesn't last long, and Amachi returns to your group, victorious. Feeling bad for the fellow, you sneak towards the passed out Manji leader and splash some water over his face, offering to bandage his wounds.
Once it's time to depart, Higuchi glances at you, suddenly remembering to mention: "Thanks for the help, by the way. You one of their lackeys?" He inquires, given you didn't take part in the matches and just sat aside. You turn towards Hana and he nods with a smile. "Guess there's no point in hiding it anymore", he says and you promptly lower the hood of your jacket. "I'm (Y/N). Not exactly a lackey, just a friend." The Manji guys stare for a long moment, speechless. Higuchi suddenly groans, irritated and red faced, and runs a hand over his head. "Fuck! Y'all bring a fucking girl over and let me embarrass myself like that?! And a pretty one too...Give me one reason I shouldn't kill you all right now." He moans, exasperated. No way. Is he still out of it? Did he mess up his head for good? Out of all the times...you had to see him lose like that. He feels like strangling someone. "I...uh...I'm sorry?" your begin, but you're unsure what exactly to apologize for. "Give me a minute" he announces, abruptly pulling you after him at a safe distance from the rest of the confused group.
“What did the weirdo want?” Mitsumasa asks, eyeing you suspiciously on the train back to Toarushi. You wave your hand in dismissal, trying to hide the faint blush dusting your cheeks. You’d rather not have this kind of conversation on public transport, and besides, how would you explain that one of the Manji leaders had quite literally asked you out on the spot, and you just went along with it? They’ll find out either way at some point. Maybe due to your sudden frequent trips to Tokyo, or because Higuchi’s yakuza-like appearance gathers the attention of the delinquents in your small town.
Your relationship most certainly won’t go unnoticed. Not with his short fuse and obvious jealousy. He’s the type that’ll immediately start a fight if he thinks the bloke passing by stared at you. “What the hell? Were you looking at my girlfriend? You must have a death wish, motherfucker”, he’ll warn loudly. You often have to keep his attitude in check, pulling him back and scolding him to stop threatening people. He’ll naturally do his best to listen, but he does love your assertiveness and it’s hard to focus when you’re being this cute. Alright, alright, he'll try to be less aggressive (It lasts a day).
Bonus scenario I had in my head after writing this: The Manji leaders sitting at a table and discussing the next potential gang war, until one of them notices Higuchi's phone wallpaper. "What the hell is that?" he can't help but blurt it out in disbelief. "Oh, (Y/N) wanted to try out a new cat café and they took this photo of us. Comes with hearts and shit, but eh. It's nice" he explains, indifferent to the grimace of the guys piled up to gaze at the cute themed, cat-eared picture.

Sahara Sensei to Toki-kun (2023) ep. 3
Ongoing Review: Going good. Ongoing Rating: 7.5/10
Summary: Yanki remakes himself after falling for his class teacher.
Pairing: Class teacher X Yanki Probable side-pairing: Senpai X Kouhai (step-brothers)
What I liked:
# Bloody sweet first kiss
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I had tons of apprehension regarding how this scene’s gonna play out. I am very pleased with how they handled this scene. I am not a fan of falling into a kiss. If I’m not wrong it is a visual story-telling trope and seldom shows up in books. But this one was really good and changed my mind about it. The kiss was triggered by a knee giving out, a slip of foot, shown in slow-mo as sensei falls face first onto our yanki only for skin to break and blood to flow. While their audience is shell-shocked.
# Step-brothers trope
It has been a while since I last encountered this trope. I am surprised that this is side CP to a sensei X yanki pairing. Classics. I am glad that the supportive friends trope got complicated. Also it has ushered in another: all male characters are BL targets.
# Sweetest evil stepmother
I am such a fan of Rise. His looks, attitude, personality, aura – so dazzling! This is the kind of person I would unknowingly emulate. Seeing him in stepmother costume made me realize: if that character was a female, I would have had a serious case of akka pasam* for that character while watching.
# The girls are so vivacious. It is a delight.
# Mirror to comphet
Tumblr media
The scene of Toki contemplating what kind of person sensei likes. Three doors open and Toki’s classmates pop-out. Now that’s an awesome expose of how comphet operates. It props up artificial limits to what one is allowed to feel and imagine. Why were Toki thinking of his classmates in terms of Sahara’s love interest? Because that’s whom comphet picks out for him (not necessarily for Sahara) – “right” age and gender.
# Opening song is pretty cool
# Same-sex theatric performance
I’ll take it as a tribute to premodern kabuki queers.
# The prince who conveniently fell ill.
It is the silliest. But hey, the prince got scared. It is no Ojou-sama he is paired with, rather a yanki who live by the lines_
Forget safety.
Live where you fear to live.
Destroy your reputation.
Be notorious.
_ (oft attributed to) Rumi
Of course, I’ll remember Rumi and Shams-e-Tabrizi. That too was student-sensei aashiqii.
It is no wonder his nervous jitters were particularly bad. Convenient for the narrative that the yanki scared his classmate away so that his prince can be who saved the day.
# Todo Takuya-kun
I love how creepy, stalkerish he is. It has been a while since I had walking, stalking obsession gracing my screen. My Beautiful Man: Eternal (movie) was months ago. I liked the interaction between Takuya and Toki. My precious perverts assemble.
# Snow White Braveheart
Toki-kun’s version of Snow White looked like a valiant warrior marching into a battlefield.  He was such a delight on stage. I felt Sahara, almost. Sensei and yanki, both look pretty good with make-up make-up.
# Outburst, overflow, on target
Post-kiss scenes were spot-on. While I am not particularly interested in Sahara’s swimming past, I loved how all of it (him and his history) landed on Toki.
What I didn’t like:
# Sahara’s ex
I don’t think I’ll like that character even a little bit. I want Sahara to stop thinking about him too. This is such a great feeling. I like being made to feel this way. The storytellers are clearly doing something right.
Tumblr media
I mean, it is so deliberate. Look how cold the frame with the ex is. Compare this to frames with Toki. They designed Toki’s wardrobe such that each frame with him feel warm.
# So much recap from previous episode.
The episode is way too short. The source manga is probably typical length 2 volumes. In that case, they don’t have a lot of material to work with. Even though I would take recaps over useless filler scenes (except for scenes of Toki fighting and being yanki which sadly we won’t get) any day, I am feel undernourished after each episode.
# Intentionally dense
While I understand Sahara, I don’t endorse. I like how Todo Shinji brings it up subtly – Icchan’s kanji, of course. But Shinji-kun, my son, hypocrisy clearly doesn’t suit you.
_____
Akka pasam – (Tamil) love for elder sister. Similar to sis-con.

Anime-Manga Comparisons, episode 22.
We get a change right from the get go here, in the anime we see Kasanoda in the morning, being greeted by everyone and them telling him to have a good day at ‘work’, and he corrects them that it’s school. In the manga he’s returning from school, and when Tetsuya asks if he had fun Ritsu glares at him. We get the reveal immediately that Ritsu is after Mori, in the anime it’s an imagine spot of him, and in the manga it’s a photo of him that gets punched. How scary!
Less scary is the hosts dressed as Tokugawa shogunate. The scene goes mostly the same, except anime Honey gets an extra line about how many ‘maniacs’ there are, and then Renge appears, also dressed up, and is labelled as a maniac. In the manga she appears in the background with the other guests, infodumping about history. It’s pretty cute, and she says that three bowls of rice line, again. In the manga Kyoya tells Haruhi that it’s important to be careful with what she says, because they don’t want to cast themselves as Shinsengumi, and it’s better to let the customers fantasise; in the anime it’s him following Renge’s advice. It’s amazing that this show is making me do actual history research!
In the manga, right after the girls talk about Haruhi being Soji Okita, there’s a little more with her, where the twins and Tamaki also join in the fantasising. They’re worried she’ll become a background character if they leave her alone, so them and Honey give her a big group hug, and tell her she’s the main character in their hearts, and Haruhi says she’d rather be an extra forever, and now to Mori!
The reactions to him lunging with his sword are the same, except anime Tamaki gets an extra line about how the anime is on it’s last few episodes and he hasn’t had many showcase episodes. I wonder if the animators knew they were only getting one season…
Anime Kasanoda gets on his knees and begs for the apprenticeship, but in the manga he pulls up his sleeve to show he’s written ‘respect for Takashi Morinozuka forever’ on his arm, and the hosts call him an old style yanki, and say writing on the arm used to be cool. Ritsu’s introduction is told the same way, via Kyoya, but the anime has them all on the sofa together, which is way cuter, in my opinion. When the twins get his name wrong twice and Kasanoda gets angry, they and Tamaki hide behind the sofa, while Haruhi, who was busy looking at Kyoya’s book, doesn’t even notice. In the manga, when Kasanoda yells, he makes Tamaki cry and the rest of the club have to console him.
The anime adds an extended scene of him as a kid being taught by his father how to talk, while the manga leaves it as a single scene, and the anime omits that his dad also told him not to smile, and to only speak when necessary. Manga Ritsu also reveals that he hates pain (his tattoo is just pen), likes to read and write (he has a diary), and that he loves kittens (his cheek injury is from a cat). He mentions wanting to play kick the can in both, and anime Tamaki interjects to say that playing that is nice. Haruhi looks baffled, but cute. In the manga the twins get bored around this point and go have tea, while Kyoya (labelled as a disinterested observer), figures out that because Ritsu has no friends, nobody has corrected his anachronistic style. I’m sure if I think long and hard enough I’ll turn this into another ‘pot meet kettle’ moment for him.
Kasanoda asks for Mori’s help by hurting his feelings, and while everyone’s quiet about it in the anime, in the manga the twins burst out laughing and don’t stop until the scene ends. In the background Mori faints and has to be helped by Haruhi, Tamaki and Honey while the twins agree to help Kasanoda for him.
In the anime, Haruhi asks if they should step in, and Tamaki declines and says it’s Mori’s situation to deal with, until Mori genuinely asks him for help (with his eyes) and Tamaki can’t wait to step in and take over. He tries to be altruistic about it, but Haruhi catches him out immediately and knows he wanted to get involved badly. This happens later in the manga, after the montage of Ritsu shadowing Mori. All the scenes are basically the same, but out of order. Also, the ‘lovely item’ scene in the anime has Ritsu bring home Tamaki’s ugly bear only, but in the manga he also brings home Shiro Takaoji! His gang questions if they’re related, from them both having glares, and then are concerned it’s a kidnapping. Shiro isn’t at all afraid, and simply leaves for his piano lesson when Tetsuya comes to question Ritsu. Ritsu immediately bolts from embarrassment.
Back at the club the next day, the hosts refuse to accept blame for making Kasanoda even scarier (Manga Tamaki blames the twins and Shiro) and Haruhi continuing to adorably peek over Kyoya’s shoulder is, unfortunately, an anime exclusive. When Haruhi says she doesn’t like kick the can, anime Ritsu looks sad, but manga Ritsu gets shot through the heart with a big arrow. Ouch! When he blushes over how cute Haruhi is, nobody notices in the anime, but Kyoya notices in the manga. Is that jealousy I smell? And is it over Haruhi, or over the fact that Kyoya’s episode comes before Kasanoda’s in the manga and he knows the anime is going to change the order?
The manga episode finishes off here, the twins and Tamaki sense danger and separate Ritsu and Haruhi, while Haruhi and Honey already figured out what Kasanoda needs and Honey wants him to figure it out by himself. We see Tetsuya worrying over the weather and Ritsu catching a cold, some foreshadowing, the twins calling him the second dark lord (because the first is Kyoya, of course) and Kyoya thinks the situation might turn out interesting after all, while Mori is left forgotten and bored.
In the anime, we get the cat maid scene, but really cut down from the manga, as he only wears it for a second and is caught by Tetsuya. In the manga he first wears only the ears and tail during the club’s operating hours and scares off the customers (Tamaki writes in his operation book, Kyoya has a tally of runaway customers, and the twins just laugh at their misery) They all have a scene discussing how cat ears are always a turn on (Haruhi says their range is limited to only otaku), and then the twins pull out the maid outfit. Kasanoda gets mad, and the one braincell trio (I don’t want to keep saying ‘Tamaki and the twins’, you see) cry when he yells at them. He apologises immediately, and they probably would have stopped crying if Haruhi didn’t reassure him that it’s ‘obviously’ not his problem and there’s ‘obviously’ a problem with the trio. The twins point out that she used ‘obviously’ twice, and it hurts them more. Kasanoda goes on about how they’re kind and it’s his fault he can’t benefit, and we see other costumes he tried on, like an angel, a tennis player, and …some kind of grass skirt wearing tribal? Yeah, I got nothing. He agrees to wear the maid dress, and Tamaki wonders if he’ll kill them, while one of the twins wanted Haruhi to wear it. It’s hard to tell, but I think Hikaru is the one who’s thinking that.
Of course, Tetsuya walks into whatever the hell is going on, and Ritsu freaks out and scares him off. In the manga he just yells, but in the anime he physically grabs him.
Still in the manga, Mori’s been cut on all his right hand fingers by some glass, and before Kasanoda can say anything, Mori puts his hand out and stops an empty bucket from flying through the window and hitting them. When Ritsu looks outside to see who threw it, Mori shuts the window and stops him from getting pelted by rotten eggs. Tamaki is concerned that Mori’s attacks have been paranormal, what a dimwit. We also see the flower pot scene here, as one of the attacks, but he doesn’t smash it, just catches it with his hand. Along with that, he gets bonked on the head by a book, has to lean back to avoid getting hit in the face by something, and smashes another something. Probably a priceless vase, hope you like host cubs, Mori! Wait…
The club are all pretty concerned about him, but Kasanoda is the only one taking it seriously as an attack because the others don’t believe someone would go after Mori. The others are too busy joking about an exorcism, and he runs off, past Tetsuya and some mean students who talk about him out loud for maximum angst, and he runs right into the sparrow scene!
In the anime he’s out in the hedge maze, but I’m not sure the hedge maze even exists in the manga, so he’s just in a general outdoorsy bit. The scene plays out the same, though, except manga Haruhi gets an extra line about how when she was younger she’d feed the sparrows on her apartment balcony and trap them under a basket. Ritsu calls her a naturally cruel person. Either way, he still thinks she’s cute! He also gets some more time in the manga to talk about rescuing a kitten in junior high and how his men also helped with it. Haruhi deduces that he lacks confidence and is therefore oblivious to his surroundings.
In both versions we see Haruhi getting hit with paint, though in the anime Honey kicks the bucket and it hits her, but in the manga it hits her regardless. I guess she’s just as oblivious to her surroundings. The sparrow also doesn’t fly away, so Honey happily picks it up. We don’t see it past here in the manga, so I assume it flies away off screen, but I think it’s sweeter that Ritsu sees it fly away.
Mori gets the two perpetrators in a headlock in both, and manga Kyoya takes a photo of them for evidence, I assume. (Evidence of their wrongdoing, or evidence of how big and strong Mori is?)
Honey reveals that he and Mori knew all along (I just doubt the others even considered that Ritsu was being targeted.) and manga Honey tells him the broken glass Mori cut himself on was in Ritsu’s locker and desk. Mori gives him a big, strong headpat in each, and I think that’d fix me, too, and though he only gets the one line in the anime, he gets a lot more in the manga as he tells Kasanoda to simply be himself, and people who understand him are bound to appear. It’s really sweet, seeing the rest of the club together. Ritsu is about to argue that he doesn’t have anyone like that, but then Tetsuya comes in. In the anime he tells the perpetrators to get lost and they squirm away like caterpillars, but in the manga he threatens to send them to hell still alive if they try to hurt Kasanoda again. How tough!
Haruhi gets a line and the twins flirt with her when she leaves to change, but in the manga it’s just a background scene of her taking off her blazer while Tamaki fusses over her.
During Tetsuya’s flashback, manga Ritsu doesn’t remember giving his umbrella to Tetsuya, and says he usually does it for dogs and cats, Tetsuya tells him he can be a dog or a cat for his master. We also see more of Kasanoda caring for his entire syndicate in the manga, instead of the extended meeting scene of Tetsuya and Ritsu. He cries at sad movies, gives cake on birthdays, and presents at Christmas, even Tetsuya’s scarf was gifted by him! He also offers the umbrella, but the twins point out that he travels by car, and he gets embarrassed. Ritsu takes it anyway, though. In the anime the twins just cry over the touching (read: extremely homosexual) scene. Same.
Finally, Ritsu leaves to apologise to Haruhi, and Honey directs him to the club, where she’s changing, and I think it’s Kyoya pointing it out in both. It’s obviously him in the anime, and he’s the one missing from the realisation in the manga, so I assume it’s him there as well. We get some shameless fanservice, and that’s where both episodes end!
Episode 22… over!
