Warnings: yandere trope, stalking, breaking and entering, possibly ooc riddler as it's been a hot minute since I've seen the animated series, kinda ambiguous ending.

Yanderes are OK to enjoy in fiction. They should stay fiction. They are not examples of healthy relationships. These behaviors are NOT okay in real life. They are horrid. This is for entertainment purposes

Your clock's ticking fades into the background, drowned out by you turning up the volume on your radio, blaring a favorite song of yours. Background noise as you worked diligently on making your dinner, checking temperatures, checking on whatever was cooking, grabbing some utensils and ingredients you forgot to snag initially.

For once you didn't feel on edge. You didn't need look over your shoulder. You didn't need to sleep with a weapon near your bed. You didn't need the police on speed dial. If felt safe. He had been locked up for almost three months at this point. The longest break you've had from the deranged man.

Course the usual antics in gotham went on, appearing on the news in the morning to report on what criminal had striked this time. One's that you weren't roped up in. You were just an outsider observing for a change. No obsessed man spouting confusing riddles at you and proclaiming love.

Now he was locked away in Arkham far away from you. A court issued restraining order was slapped on top of that too. Pushing his distance even farther.

You could slow down, time to yourself, no need to worry for you safety, for whether you'd wake up in your bed or not. Now here you were, peacefully making yourself dinner. You couldn't even recall the last time you'd done so.

The music is loud enough to where it almost drowns everything out. Almost.

Everything except for the distinct sound of glass breaking.

You whip around on your heels, quickly grabbing the nearest knife to arm yourself, back against the counter as your eyes land of dreadfully familiar figure. Towering over the remaining shards of your windows, brushing his blaring green suit off.

"Apologies for the window. You changed the locks on everything so I couldn't get in the usual way."

You point the knife in his direction, making a clear gesture for him to stay away. He only gives unamused glance at it. This wasn't the first time you two had stood juxtaposed like this.

"Quite the harsh greeting dear. Not even a hello after all these months?"

He takes a single step forward. A shakey shout leaves your mouth with little hesitation.

"No! Get out! You know you aren't supposed to be here! You know damn well you aren't supposed to be near me! You know what those papers say!"

He leans on his cane. Head tilted to the side, a chortle leaving him

"Darling, a silly piece of paper can't keep me from you!"

Of course it wouldn't. A piece of paper wouldn't stop a parasite. A leech. You're not face to face with the epitome of a law abiding citizen are you? He's broken the law long before he decided to swoon over you. The crimes he's done for you before surpassed violating a restraining order. It was just a meaningless sheet to him.

Neither of you moved. Both just stood still. Silence hung in the air. Just as the knife in your hand did. You eye the phone on the wall. Would the city police help? They barely responded in time before. Always end up having to wait for the bat to save you. That wouldn't do anymore would it?

He's killed. He's kidnapped. He's tormented. The aslyum didn't deter him, nor jail, nor any semblance of law or punishment. He'd just keep doing it.

The kicthen light bounces off the blade.

Offering a permanent solution.

The only riddle now was wether or not you would succeed.

D - Depraved: Does your yandere have a shrine? (If so, what's on it?)

I don't think Ed is really the type to have a dedicated shrine, though I do think he'd have keepsakes of yours around his work area or on his person. Pictures of you, writings or doodles you may have made that he was able to snatch up (maybe even saved out of the trash), pieces of clothing that he was able to cut or rip off… You know, normal stuff! Little things to sate him while he couldn't be with you.

I can also see him considering the crimes he committed in your names as a sort of ‘shrine to your love’.

E - Erratic: How unpredictable are they? How quick are mood changes?

Ed prefers sticking to plans when it comes to his crimes, but he can be prone to unpredictability when it comes to social interactions, typically. He can be prone to paranoia and reading into things. Inconsequential words or even a change in tone or expression could be suddenly seen as slights or insults against The Riddler, which can lead to explosions of anger and accusations of betrayal towards civilians, the authorities, Batman, or in the latter case, his hired help. 

But with you, Riddler feels at ease. Any paranoia is soothed by your presence. With you, he feels so at ease. So right. His equal. His match. His soulmate! Any desperate need for validation is quelled by you. Even if you argue and fight with him, he'd know it's not anything you have against him - well, not really. It's not your fault you've been lied to! You'll understand that you and he were meant to be after he helps you unlearn all the horrible things the idiots of this city have force-fed you.

After all, if you weren't perfect for one another, why did he feel so safe and secure with you?

I - Intimacy: How intimate are they with their darling?

Ed is so touch-starved it's not even funny. He never wanted to be separated from you! Be prepared to be basically smothered in affection. Hugging, cuddling, nuzzling, smothering you in kisses - everything he's missed out on, he wants to finally make up for. All his time spent waiting for the perfect partner is finally worth it now that you're here! And as stated above, he won't get angry if you don't reciprocate. You're just confused, it's okay. 

Any attempts at fighting him or cursing him out will just lead to him cooing to you condescendingly as he ties you up in restraints so you can calm down… Though, he may not be able to hold back from being affectionate before you're done with your time-out. He just adored you so much! You know, exposure therapy is a very effective treatment for aversions, and this would be the perfect opportunity to show how wrong all those fools in this cesspool of a city were.

Eddie was little more than a distraction to what you wanted to do now, it was as if every time he got out of Arkham he found his way back to you.

He smiled fondly at your annoyed expression and gave you a hug. The constriction threatened to snap you in half. If you'd been able to feel your fingers you would've felt the blood flow begging for some release.

“Hello my dear friend, it's been quite a while since I'd seen you last.”

“It's been three weeks Edward.”

He shrugged off the comment with a bashful grin. Then took you from the goons he had bring you up, merely waving them off as he rather quickly pulled you over to his desk.

Having been friends with Edward since before he'd moved from New York to Gotham you knew his excitement better than anyone. As he sat you down in the chair, harsher than he'd meant to he made his way over to his side.

“Care to tell me why you can't just wait for another probationary period Edward? I visited you the last time you warned me about the blackmail.” You didn't want to be there at all, and looking into the almost watery green eyes of your friend it was clear he did.

Feigning ignorance Edward rolled his eyes, “Why would I ever actually blackmail you? You're far too important to me.”

“I must be given this is the eighth time you’ve kidnapped-“

He interjected,

“Borrowed!”

You deadpanned before continuing,

“Kidnapped, me.”

His brows furrowed harshly, nose twitching as he shuffled his elbows inward. The tension in his fists were obvious, as was the same tension in his neck.

“I don’t want to play this with you. I just borrowed-“ he stood slowly, lights from outside casting the front of his body in darkness. “You.”

You nodded as you saw him do the same.

“Okay Edward.”

“Eddie.” He corrected dangerously, regaining absolute control of the situation.

You held your breath in for a moment to keep yourself from shaking.

“Okay Eddie.”

He sat back down slowly, never taking his eyes off of you. They seemed to bite into your soul, searching for the very moment you’d decide to flee.

“I'm thinking of my next caper.” he started, strongly.

You fiddled with your pants before nodding, pursed lips.

“Yeah that's uhh, kinda bad Eddie.”

“I can’t exactly control what my mind wants me to do. It becomes so bad I feel the need to pick at myself if I don’t plan.” He stood from his chair and dramatically went through the movements, going on a tangent about how the feelings just build until they burst.

“Is there anyway I can help…” you paused, he turned around intrigued by what you were saying.

“With the… building?” You we’re unsure of how you phrased that, the words coming out awkward. But he seemed to understand.

His eyes widened and he seemed brighter than before.

“Well well well, look who’s coming into their own!” He smiled slyly before turning to his bookshelf, you meanwhile looked for an escape.

Every window was sealed. There were guards outside, Eddie could practically read your mind, and knew that you never actually went to the restroom when you were uncomfortable with something.

“Okay!”

He set a pen and paper down in front of you before nearly organizing the books in front of him. He pulled a map of Gotham out of his shirt right after, setting the paper before you.

You looked up incredulously, desperately searching for an answer as Eddie leaned on the table happily staring at you.

“What is this?”

“Planning!”

“For what?!”

“You’re not stupid my friend do try and fit the pieces in with one another.” He leaned in and kept the map open with one arm and pushed your chair in with the other. From here you could feel him shaking with glee, the previous tension forgotten.

You tried to forget that you were making plans for a supervillain here, and tried to imagine all the times you’d spent with one another.

“How abouuut…” You tried thinking only to feel like your brain was useless. You drew blanks, pushing the paper away with one hand as Edward stared, concerned back at you.

“I’m no good at this stuff Eddie, maybe I can help give you tools, or run you coffee. Like a secretary!” This was partially to arouse sympathy from your old friend, but also to find a way to leave and not speak to him again.

“To have you mitigated to a secretary as my best friend?” He looked bluntly at you, “that’s stupid,” he snatched the pencil from your hand, and grabbed the paper. “You start with one idea. Then add on, you don’t give up if you don’t have it right away. Now throw somthing out there.”

You fumbled, and he began to hum a tune from a game show he knew, counting down your time. It reminded you of nights where the two of you would go over Flashcards for tests.

“Nuclear Fission!”

He ‘oohed’, impressed by the quick and out of the box thinking, and he quickly jotted the idea down

The next few were rapid fire rounds.

“The starry night-“

“Colour theorem.”

“Absurdism!”

“EDWARD PUT DOWN THE DAMN NORTHERN LIGHTS!!!”

By the end of the night the two of you were down a bottle and a half of whiskey, with a plan that only required word play, and machinery.

You leaned against the man with an arm over his shoulder as you reminisced your childhood.

“I missed this Eddie, you always were great company.”

He smiled earnestly, his readers glasses slipping down his nose as he undid his tie. “You were always like a younger sibling to me, it’d only make sense for me to wanna spend time with you…”

He trailed off, then grew somber.

“I’m sorry.”

You tilted your head in confusion, and he put a hand on your shoulder. “For the interruptions, and the blackmail… I really-“ he turned his head as his voice cracked. You could tell he was getting emotional, so you pulled him in for a hug.

The two of you set to sleep that night, Ed in his armchair, you on the couch. And you began to wonder if helping him with riddles would really be all that bad.

im in a hattery mood tonight, so we'll start with him and maybe ill do riddler at a later date. also, didnt know what specifically you wanted when you said nerdy, so i went in terms of hobbies

-im gonna start this after hes already established as the mad hatter and has already moved on from alice (side note- its weird that he only had one episode where he was after her, right?)

-he doesnt know what came over him, he just saw the most interesting person walking by his hideout and simply had to follow them home! hes used to flights of fancy regarding random people, but most of his fixations fade after only a few days. the only people who have held his attention for longer have been alice and now you. he loved alice, and if you captivate him like she did, he must love you too, right...? but then, why does his interest in you feel so different?

-he cant exactly bump into you in public, hes a wanted criminal, but he has to meet you somehow. he feels like if he just spoke to you, he could make sense of his feelings. so he dons a disguise and follows you to the library. hes seen all the little pins and patches on your clothing, he knows what sort of books you like, so he stations himself in that aisle, hoping he'll be able to chat with you

-and lucky him, you reach for a book right next to him! he takes note of the title- its no alice in wonderland, but it seems interesting enough. he asks you if its any good, and that leads to a wonderful conversation about literature! oh, hes so delighted to be speaking to you, especially when you mention your schedule for library visits. he already knew, of course, but now he can freely pop up there without seeming like a stalker. you part ways for the day, but you cant help but notice how he watches you as you leave...

-you become good friends soon, meeting at the library and discussing what youve read lately. youve never spoken to someone who listens so intently when you ramble about your interests, and its refreshing when he apologizes after incorrectly assuming your pronouns. and hes so respectful, promising to never give you a reason to correct him again. its a bit strange how much he cares, seeing that youve only known each other for a month or so, but nobodys really tried to be your friend before, so maybe youre just overthinking it

-you call him a good friend to his face, and he... sort of freezes. with alice, it always stung when she called him a friend, but with you? it feels like everything finally makes sense. of course he wasnt romantically attracted to you, youre nothing like alice! his mind had never wandered to thoughts of kissing or marriage like it had when he was pining for her, it had always been thoughts of a nice tea party and the like! he loved you, yes, but just as friends! friends... what a wonderful, positively frabjous word!

-after his little epiphany, he seems much brighter and eager than he did when you first met. that just makes it all the scarier when youre late to your library hangout after an unfortunate mugging. despite assuring jervis that youre fine and the only thing you really cared about losing was one of your pins, you can hear him muttering under his breath about how he wont let this stand. the mood is off for the rest of the day, but theres nothing to be done about it

-you wake up the next morning to a knock at the door. its jervis, in full hatter attire, presenting your stolen pin to you. while you question how you didnt notice that your library friend was a notorious criminal, he locks the door behind him and makes himself comfortable. he sits you down and explains how he was drawn to you from the moment he saw you, and he simply had to know you better. he regrets having to lie about his identity, but it was necessary, dont you see? if he was recognized, he never wouldve gotten the chance to become such good friends with you! but of course, he cant let his dearest friend get hurt! he had always worried for your safety, but your mugging was the last straw. he simply cant allow you to go out into gotham anymore, its far too dangerous!

-before you can protest, he slips a card behind your ear and you black out. when you wake up, youre in his hideout, in a room specifically tailored to you. your favorite books are on the shelves, theres posters of your favorite movies and shows on the walls, the tv has a few consoles plugged into it, he even got records of all your favorite music! here, he explains, youll be kept safe and happy. your own personal wonderland

-if youre alright with this new arrangement, expect jervis to hover over everything you do. not because hes suspicious, he just wants to understand your interests. he'll get you unbirthday gifts every day (except your birthday, of course), and youll have tea parties at least once a week. oh, what a wonderful time youll have together!

-if you still want to leave... oh, dear. he doesnt take rejection well, he never has. its almost worse this time, because you considered him a friend before! whats changed? hes still the same man you met all those weeks ago, why wouldnt you want to be friends with him now? hes learned from alice, a card on your head isnt the solution to his problem, but boy is he tempted. he supposes youll just have to spend some time alone before youll see reason. despite all the entertainment in your room, you still need human interaction, so youll probably go a bit mad before you see him again. but at least you want to spend time with him now! he doesnt care about your sanity, just that youre with him. after all, we're all mad here

Spookiest man alive with smartest man alive, what could go wrong? (A lot actually)

Though you knew Scarecrow longer, Riddler would fall for you first, and harder.

They both admire your drive and your determination to accomplish your goals, but for Scarecrow it’s more about the fears that come with such a person…

Perhaps you’re afraid of failing, or proving yourself incompetent? It makes him find you all the more fascinating…

At first they had a bit of a rivalry. Scarecrow wasn’t willing to share, and Riddler wasn’t fond of the spooky fellow all that much. Riddler was especially concerned that Scarecrow would harm you for the sake of his experiments.

They respected each other, but taking their darling away from them? Neither of them are willing to give you up.

Edward is a lot better at hiding his disturbing tendencies, at least from your view, than Scarecrow is. He tries to romance you in the usual way, arranging things so you spend a lot of time with him and delivering (not so secret admirer) gifts to your doorstep.

Sure, Edward’s eliminated a lot of people in his way, but you don’t have to know that! He’s lucid enough to realize playing the long game will be more successful for him

While Edward plays savior, promising to protect you from Jonathan, Scarecrow takes advantage of your fears. He tries to convince you that Riddler is only acting polite for personal gain, that he would have no problem throwing you in one of his traps if you proved incompetent…

What if dear old Eddie pitied you, hmm? Only kept you around to make him feel better about himself? There hasn’t been anyone that Riddler considered an intellectual equal before, besides the Batman, after all. Scarecrow is just telling you how it is.

They may try to kill each other indirectly, but neither succeed. They were both expecting it.

Riddler is more open to working with others, and he sees Scarecrow as a grand opportunity to force you into his clutches.

It’d be a lot easier to control you if you were caught between two rogues.

When they meet, they come to an agreement: Scarecrow will be able to continue his experiments as long as they don’t put you in serious danger, driving you towards the Riddler, while Riddler will handle the technical stuff to ensure you’ll never be able to escape them.

Your relationship with them would be like running between two abusive exes.

Scarecrow’s manipulative, putting ideas into your head about your inadequacy and terrifying you into staying, always some underlying threat laced into his words when he shows you what he’s been working on or asks you to do something for him

While Riddler is very overprotective, constantly has you under surveillance, and caters to your every need, which can feel infantilizing and suffocating.

Even more so when you slowly find this all out, as his layers are pulled back the longer you live with him… it makes you think back to what Scarecrow had told you.

At this point, you’re probably too far gone to be dragged out of it. Edward’s taken care to remove you from any semblance of your old life.

Every time one of them hurts you, you run to the other for comfort, and it’s a never ending cycle.

And Riddler has to admit, it’s fun when you’re under the influence of a bit of fear toxin, and you’re desperate enough to be held and reassured, doing nothing to fight their hands all over you…

A fight for dominance through withholding one another's wants and needs.

Sooo I haven't seen Chainsaw Man but i have read up as best as I could for Makima and gosh isn't she a darling/j but I hope I did her character interpretation justice!

Warning: This chapter might contain suggestive and Yandere themes, that may be uncomfortable to some.

There is something about two dominant people fighting who gets the upper hand. Edward was particularly defensive about it, constantly asserting and making himself appear the more cerebrally superior. Edward, the "I can do anything and everything in the best way possible, so you best chose me. Love me. Obey me" kind of Yandere. Then there was you, playing into his little game, knowing which strings to pull for him to do your bidding. It was just so fucking easy to make him think he is in control.

Everything he does was to appeal to you, he claims it is simply him showing the natural skillset no one will ever possess but deep down, he does it all for you. He wanted you, because you are the most unattainable of all, the best for him. Oh, playing hard and yet simultaneously, easy to give in? Hot and cold and complicated... Just like his machines, oh he could definitely fix you to be purely his.

What you ask of him is vigilante by nature, necessary evil, if you may say so yourself. No harm of manipulating an eager, possessive narcissist who is always hell-bent of proving himself as the most superior. In exchange for favours from him varying from machines to information, you grant him a touch of your flesh. This is where you play the game of light switch. By giving him all the validation he craves, the touch, the sensation of releasing his carnal needs, before flicking the light switch, dropping it all together. Oh he yearns for you, more than anything and he will do anything to get you back, he will fucking kill your target just so you can pay attention to him again.

It is an exchange, in hindsight really. Just two fucked up people wanting something from each other, coming to a compromise... To Edward, you're his darling who needs his help, who appreciates him, he gives him what he wants to hear. And if your vigilantism gets in the way of giving him attention, consider it done. Once he gets a complete hold of you, he is never letting you out of his clutch. You are aware of it and know just how you can have him dangling by a string. Despite his towering figure, you still hold the leash of his collar. He was just like your very own Pavlovian dog, training him with the classic conditioning. He who barks imposingly, yet softened by the presence of his master, such an obedient dog.

In the end, it is just two shitty people using one another for their own gain.

Since I already did Riddler with a similar prompt, I did Mad Hatter.

How he would likely find you is something more or less along the same lines as Riddler did. Sitting alone in the bustling Gotham square, focused on your sketchpad, he notices you, and becomes intrigued. He notices what's on your sketchpad and can't help but get excited.

He begins to notice the parallels between your lives, often alone [for separate reasons, but whatever], many times engrossed in their own thing, their own thing they care for deeply, and that you're often left to your own devices, much like he was before he was liberated.

He begins to want to teach you, to tell you that it's okay, much like he wished someone would for him.

Hence, his obsession begins, as he begins to pity that no one comes near you [doesn't matter how introverted you are, he still feels that way.]

He begins to fill his hide-away with artistic pieces not just revolving Alice in Wonderland, but also things that may pertain to your interests.

Once he realizes what he's done, does he realize that now he does want to keep you.

Who is your favorite Batman the Animated series villain? (and why?)

It has to be Eddie, followed closely by Jervis and Babydoll.

It turns into a rant, I can say so much about them it’s unreal because I love them all but I’ll get basics out of the way.

Eddie has such a sleek design, his voice seemed tailor fit to the riddler. The pompous transatlantic accent paired with an anxious nerd beneath so so suiting for him. His origins as the riddler make such sense to me! It wasn’t some crazy night out turned bad, or a bad past. Simply a shitty work environment that turned his properties against him. Edward is shown to be insanely creative in the series, and his riddles are not only thought provoking, but things that he KNOWS batman would have to cheat in order to get around. The whole getting rid of who he became thing was very somber near the end. I firmly believe that if Bruce wasn’t a cheeky little man that Eddie could have reformed himself. This is why I think of BTAS Riddler more as Eddie than his persona. We see who he wants to be and who he came to terms with being. I also just love gingers with receeding hairlines, dky.

Jervis was a complete shock to me but the moment I heard his voice my boxers hit the floor. His socially awkward sputtering (and fake ass accent but I’ll get to that.) and posture around people is incredibly relatable. Anyone who knows me knows I love a good yandere, and his conflict at the beginning of his episode set up one of my favourite moments in TV. (Again we’ll get to it later.) Jervis’s outfit is such an aesthetically pleasing look, whenever I tried to redesign it for my own au I couldn’t make a different hatter. It had to look like him. He knows his actions are entirely selfish, and that’s where I feet fanfic writers, especially me trip up. He’s lucid about his actions but would rather play pretend. At the end of the day he’s a gifted neuroscientist with an IncelComplex that I believe I can fix. On the topic of fixing people? The fact that he actively tried to change how miserable bats was, and how he himself had become. It hurts me knowing arkham isn’t giving him proper care. Controversially I don’t think he’s British, I think he likes to feel special so he puts a fake one in. Which is fair! For a year I had a fake Irish accent, and no one could actually get me to stop, it’s a comfort thing for some and I think Jerv does it because it fits him well.

Baby Doll is such a tragic lady, and an example to just how well the writers create scenes. Her upbeat attitude when first met is coupled with mania and eventually fear. Panic at being found out, she’s trapped in an eternal state of not looking, nor feeling how she believes she is. She’s trapped being denied by those around her despite beings talented. She’s thought of as a joke despite her age, despite her talent, despite her wants. She’s such a treat outside of that and I want the best for her.

sure thing! so far ive only played arkham knight (didnt realize it was the last installment til i was halfway through the plot) so thatll be where im drawing from

yandere!arkham!riddler x male!reader

-now, eddie is 100% bi (fight me), so hes not surprised when hes into a guy

-he is, however, surprised that hes actually romantically interested in someone enough to keep an eye on him as he navigates gotham

-this man... is interesting? and intelligent? that cant be possible, everyone but edward is a dribbling moron!

-but here you are, solving a few of the riddles hes placed around the city. he cant let you take the trophies, theyre for batman, but now hes certainly paying attention

-a few months after he first notices you, youre just go about your day when you notice a neon green question mark down an alley. another one of those trophies! might as well solve the puzzle, even if you dont get to keep it

-you solve the puzzle and go to try and grab the trophy, not expecting anything but a slight shock, but youre instead knocked to the ground from the voltage

-you wake up in default gothamite mode: tied to a chair in the middle of an empty room. of course, it had to happen eventually. soon, the riddler himself comes in to speak with you

-"good, youre awake. if i had to beat myself in chess again, id go completely insane"

-and he... sits down. sets up a chessboard on the table in front of you, and unties your hands. you play, mostly out of fear, and while you dont win, you get pretty close

-he looks shocked and excited, with a dash of smugness

-"i knew you were the one. second smartest man in gotham- right after me, of course"

-he explains to you that hes not going to kill you, just keep you ("i cant let that mind of yours make direct contact with the idiocy of gotham! your IQ will lower just by being around them!") and that he'll keep that mind of yours sharp

-how does he do this? puzzles. lots and lots of puzzles. hes a bit of a sadist, so the puzzles are mandatory if you want things like food. regardless of how you do, he'll keep you alive, but if you want anything more than the necessities, you better get good with puzzles

-he spends lots of time with you. he says its because youre the only interesting person in gotham, but its mostly because hes an incredibly lonely man. its hard being at the top, so he'll cling to anyone who can even get close to what he sees as his level

-he LOVES learning more about you. not that he didnt research you for months, but he could only gather so much information before kidnapping you. every conversation is like an interrogation

-in terms of affection, hes... interesting. if you earn your dinner, hes programming robots to serve as waiters and dusting off his green suit. i wouldnt call him a romantic, per se, but he certainly thinks of himself as such

-dont expect much in terms of physical affection, he takes a while to get to that point. hes the riddler, after all! hes above the need to cuddle! unless... if you need comfort, he supposes he can indulge you

-if you ever try to escape, he'll be furious. how dare you try and leave! how dare you assume hes dumb enough to not have planned for this! until you apologize, youre getting the bare necessities and no attention

-when you inevitably start to reciprocate, hes smug about it, but secretly ecstatic. he knows hes not the most charming guy around, but he managed to win over the second smartest guy in gotham. and isnt that all he really needs for companionship?
