What is the most 90s musical instrument and why is it that specific Yamaha synth saxophone?
I will not be elaborating.

At first I thought there was an unusually-large-for-a-saxophone amount of built-up crud in the gooseneck of this sax. But nope:
Tumblr media
Turned out it was the metal itself. The maufacturer just... crimped? the tenon on? I'm not sure what happened here, but a sax gooseneck should not look like this.
I'm not surprised; I had expectations and this instrument met them. :|

Remembering Maestro Armando Anthony "Chick" Corea (June 12, 1941 – February 9, 2021)
The Chick Corea + Steve Gadd Band – Chinese Butterfly
Chinese Butterfly is a double album by keyboardist Chick Corea and drummer Steve Gadd. The band is rounded out by saxophonist/flautist Steve Wilson, guitarist Lionel Loueke and bassist Carlitos del Puerto.
The Allmusic review by Matt Collar awarded the album 4½ stars and stated: “With both Corea and Gadd in their seventies at the time of recording, it’s refreshing to hear them sound so inventive and willing to explore new songs, even as they look back on their over 50-year partnership. Ultimately, it’s that vibrant, in-the-moment reciprocity that makes Chinese Butterfly such a compelling listen.”
Chick Corea – keyboards, Yamaha CFX grand piano Steve Gadd – drums Lionel Loueke – guitars, vocals Carlitos del Puerto – acoustic bass, electric bass Steve Wilson – flute, saxophone Luisito Quintero – percussion Philip Bailey – vocals (track 6)

You're getting a bass this weekend? Sick. What kind if you don't mind me asking?
It's pretty dependent on what ones are available at the store, I'd like to try to get one secondhand (some people say you feel closer to instruments you buy new? But for years I learned and played on a secondhand saxophone and loved the instrument dearly) so it depends on what's there and the price. Hopefully there's something in my price range because I'll need an amp too. I also, uh, have no clue how to play a bass, so I figure I'll start on an inexpensive-but-decent one and see how it goes from there?
I read up a bit and saw good things about some Squier Classic Vibe and Ibanez SR300 for beginners, Yamaha in general too. I'm not picky about the brand right now, I figure I'll get a more nuanced opinion as I learn and figure out what sound I want? One reason I want to go to the store is so I can try to get my hands on some to hear the sound of them, and choose from there.

So right before I made a huge move to where I am now (like, multiple states), my mom bought me a very very nice saxophone...much better than the beginner one I had been playing on for 2 almost 3 years.
It's a Yamaha Allegro Alto Saxophone. His name is Bowie, after David Bowie.
Bowie is my baby. I love that sax more than anything.
I have always tried to keep my sax in perfect condition. Both my old sax and Bowie didn't have a single dent nor scratch.
Until last week.
We had 8th grade night for the incoming freshmen (next year), and they played with us at our game (marching band). So this is the kids' first time in the stands, so they don't know how to actually step over things properly.
Bowie, my baby, was kicked.
All 4 of my left pinkie keys are destroyed. There's a key on the body of the sax itself that is supposed to stay closed. It's sticking straight up. The C# key (one of the pinkie keys) is broken and only closes one of the two keys on the body of the sax. Multiple other keys don't work as well, but those are the major ones
There are multiple dents now. Big ones.
One in the neck of Bowie, one in the elbow, and multiple in near the bell.
Scratches all over it.
In my 4 years of playing, I had never sent my instrument to the shop for repairs. This was the first time.
They'll be able to fix the keys...but the scratches and dents may not be fixable.
I'm just so sad about it. I'm mad at the kid yeah, but I'm mostly sad.
And everyone keeps telling me to get over it, ans that it's just an instrument...
But my ma got that as a gift so I could fit in better, and have a nice new instrument to play all through highschool.
Bowie will be fixed, but im just sad about it
ANYWHO THANKS LOL
my suggestion is to hire a hitman to find the stupid freaking guy who kicked him /j

I had to buy mouthpieces for a saxophone and a cornet recently and holy there's so much just bullshit products out there and honestly the most egregious shit I've seen yet is 3D PRINTED SAXOPHONE MOUTHPIECE that costs TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS for some fucking reason. Marketed like it's this brand new scientific advancement in mouthpiece design with special proprietary plastic that "makes finding your sound easy!!"
Like shut the hell up you 3d printed a thing and are selling it for 200 bucks you are a scammer. I can get a Yamaha 4c for 40 bucks and that one will come with a ligature and a few reeds too, the plastic one doesn't even come with a ligature..
200 bucks is how much you'd pay for like a TOP OF THE LINE professional Selmer classical mouthpiece and that's made of ebonite...
and people get away with this type of shit because of how mystified learning to play an instrument is for no fucking reason.

I lay down next to the railroad tracks with small microphones in my ears as the train very slowly passes, then late late at night play the Yamaha electric saxophone into Chrystal Star’s 4 track cassette recorder in a small shack in New Orleans until I almost pass out from hyperventilation.
That’s all in the past.
