Saying that shen jiu's abuse of luo binghe is "not necessarily evil" because abusing others can be a "cry for help" is surely a take....a very awful take. Yes he needed therapy, A LOT of therapy. But HE didn't want help, by that point he was committed to keep being miserable and make others suffer too, he wanted lbh to die, how the heck is that a cry for help?

He was a very traumatized adult in a position of power continuing the cycle of abuse, very aware of what he was doing, and who should have never been in charge of children

listen guys I love Peri a lot too, I think there's a lot about his character worth studying and that he's a good guy but you all have GOT to stop blaming Dev here when Peri is arguably more at fault!

Sure, Dev was mean to him, but Peri was mean back! And Peri is an adult while Dev is a ten year old child, Peri should have the capacity to not complain about him directly to his face, especially considering Dev has been emotionally abused all his life.

Ultimately, I don't consider it to be either of their faults. Sure, Peri was bad at this, but he straight up didn't have any experience except for Timmy, where he took up the role of a brother instead of a parent, a VERY different dynamic. Peri should've gotten like at least 3 different godkids before someone like Dev, to give him a feel for how different kids can be, and how you need to deal with different situations in their own ways. And that's just the lowest I'd advise going, he should've definitely had more.

So I blame the system for throwing him to the wolves fresh out of schooling, especially considering, iirc, Fairy Academy is canonically pretty terrible, as it's more like a military academy than an actual school. He had no proper experience, no way of knowing how to help a kid that doesn't seem to want to be helped...

But if you're going to blame anyone, blame Peri. Not the child that he was supposed to help, the child that he failed.

Mind you, 10 year olds literally don't even have fully developed minds yet, of course his sense of morality is a bit twisted. His brain isn't fully grown!

Azris au where they have the same songwriting class.

They know of each other, through rumors and gossip. Heard horrible things, so they don’t interact— when they do it’s not positive.

They get their final on the first day of class— create an album with another student based on mix of personal experiences, they have the entire year to complete it. But it has to be co-written and produced, and a full length album (at least 7 songs)

Eris scanned the classroom and his eyes landed on azriel. He’d heard through the grapevine that this guy had gone through it, and who better to write an album with?

Azriel agrees to work with him, because he’s the only person he even knows the name of.

The album takes them the entire school year— nine months, countless late nights, a new romance, too many fights and several emergency therapy sessions— but they finish it.

The album is a masterpiece, one of the best things either of them have ever produced. But they get a B, because the teacher didn’t understand the story.

Who is Gaz?

I’m going to start out with who Gaz is as a character

morality

Gaz is someone who has a strong sense of morality and struggles with the balance between doing the right thing and doing the morally right thing, there’s this debate between long-term morality and situational morality that Gaz struggles with

look im maybe not the most linguistically talented person on earth so im just gonna throw in a few quotes which i think gives Gaz

Gaz is someone who admist chaos and war is trying his best, trying his best to be a good person, to be reliable and to do the right thing

ok so i think this aspect of Gaz’s character is what people tend to focus on

and as much as the omg price’s son shit is cute i think he’s become a vehicle for people to emphasise price’s daddy factor (which like dont get me wrong keep up the good work)

but i think theres so much more to that

i forgot who wrote this but someone said something about Gaz trying to follow in impossibly large footsteps and i think thats so accurate

going back to Gaz’s struggle with morality there’s so much untapped potential in the idea that his idol, may not be an amazing person, having to come to grips with the idea that Price, his role model can look at a woman and child as interrogation leverage is something that i think people need to look into more

yes Gaz is a good guy, but that doesn’t make him passive Gaz has shown moments of anger, like in the interrogation with the butcher when he lunges at him or when him and price first meet

i think the fact that Gaz is so calm and collected but has these moments are cracks in the facade he creates

i believe personally he has a lot of repressed anger whether it be at the world, at himself, at his captain hes an angry dude hes just better at keeping it under wraps

and i know we don’t really have many details on his backstory but cmon there’s no way u sign up for a job like this and don’t have any issues whatsoever

i think this quote is so good for this because he’s harnessed his anger, it’s what makes him good at his job, a knife, a weapon

i think another interesting concept for Gaz is guilt

the fact that he cares about whats right and wrong how does he feel going to sleep at night? do these things haunt him? is he irredeemable?

i think its like that one quote “the dog that weeps after it kills is no better than the dog that doesn’t. My guilt does not purify me.”

My favorite detail in Wicked

Wicked part 2 spoilers I guess but I just got to watch Wicked on streaming and noticed some foreshadowing that is SENDING me.

By far my absolute favorite detail is the use of body language to foreshadow what’s to come for these characters in part 2.

The biggest example is the choreography in “Dancing Though Life”. There’s just SO MUCH scarecrow imagery in the movements here, like look at the Scarecrow dancing in “If I Only Had a Brain” and then Fiyero dancing and TELL ME the filmmakers weren’t at least heavily inspired by the latter.

First Fiyero moves very slow and loosely, almost like a ragdoll. Which is exactly how IIOHAB starts.

But then as the song escalates the dancing switches to a much more energetic choreo, flailing and kicking their limbs around. Again, exactly how the Scarecrow does it. Especially the background dancers in the last scene look almost one-to-one with the original footage.

Its almost tragic seeing the unfortunate fate that awaits Fiyero foreshadowed in such a lively and fun musical number with none of the characters knowing.

I know a lot of other people have already pointed this out but just seeing it for myself, especially watching the clips back to back just blew my mind. This shows such a level of thought and care put into this movie by the production team especially from something that most people aren’t even going to notice. But it just makes the movie seem all the more complete and im SO impressed that they added this
