I’m loving the new chapter but omgosh I just want to shake Angel by the shoulders and tell them that they’re loved and cared for and a good parent and

ME TOO, NGL 😭 I love writing Angel because they're a disaster up until the moment they were promoted to parent (aka literally the first chapter of Poppy Worldwide), and now they're going to have to learn how to love themself a bit in order to take care of all these kids!!!!! They're such an amazingly good parent for them, it's a match made in Heaven, but +10 years of trauma and PTSD are NOT helping them! Not even a little bit!!!!!

Angel's biggest fears right now are losing their kids, and they're just mentally preparing themself for the moment the kids will leave them for "someone better". This is going to cause some problems!!!!! Their hesitance to believe they're a good parent is going to be a problem!!!! If it wasn't for them reassuring Catnap, that boy would have LEFT them all for good!

i know on like. a logical level that the elves are said to have light eyes, which is usually interpreted (or maybe canonically stated??? idk i've only read the silm) as gray and blue. but. like. finrod is such a green character that i cannot picture him with any other eye color. it's a problem.

Oh boy. Okay well at least 20% of it was No Thoughts Head Empty but mostly it was like. He's been dead for three years by his reckoning, and by "dead" I mean "a forged body in an endless nightmare war of lava and fire and shadow." So a lot of it was like, pausing every thirty second to recognize he wasn't burning or hurting anyone or being hurt; remembering he was in his own soul and in his own skin and safely in Selto. I think having a body again really threw him (and is probably still currently throwing him). He's dealing with the oddity of his own pulse. The tiny ways he aged in death (and isn't that a paradox). The changes to his body after being remade again. All the things he left the party with, which was years ago for him and days ago for them, and the way he's sorry about the hurt and the grief but not sorry about the choice. The sheer strangeness of stepping back into a life he left years behind him and trying to remember how to fit inside it. Trying to figure out if fitting still matters.

Sometimes I see gifs or videos of Pedro speaking Spanish and I am one of those weirdos that's really fascinated by linguistics and dialects and shit so I spend too much time watching his mouth bc Spanish is very forward in the mouth (even moreso with some of the South American dialects that preserved a lot of the softer consonants from original Spanish) and it's just kind of neat to watch and then next thing I know I've been staring for like five minutes and I've lost the plot so hard I've forgotten what words are.

Mongolian history class, 2022, start of the semester. We're having a discussion on animal slaughter, featuring the one Mongolian student in our school.

The student explains that he's slaughtered animals himself, and there are two ways of doing it that avoid the spilling of blood. For a small animal like a chicken, you reach up into the chest of the animal and sever the arteries. For a larger animal like a camel, there's a spot on the forehead that, when hit hard enough, causes the animal to die instantly.

While this discussion is going on, a couple of the students are sharing something back and forth on their phone

The professor calls this out, asking if what they're sharing is more interesting than Mongolian animal slaughter

The room is dead silent for a few seconds. The two students look at each other awkwardly.

Eventually, one of the students pipes up:

"Well, the queen of England just died."

And without missing a beat, another student:

"Did they hit her on the head like a camel?"

i'm dying over that reveal. truly. truly. because on paper, the concept that ruby's mother was just an ordinary person and what made her so special was this belief everyone had feeding into her own mythology, creating something larger than life, is actually pretty cool. and, yeah, from wild blue yonder we know the doctor absolutely handed the power of suggestion over to an unknown entity that made it something tangible.. so it works.

but like. that 15 year old girl decided to drop her baby off at a church in the middle of the night in the most ostentatious, medieval looking cloak and then proceed to point mencingly at the road sign on the off chance the security camera would pick her up and that would somehow give someone the idea to name her daughter after said road sign??

i'm just saying... if that's the way you handle giving your baby up for adoption then there is absolutely nothing ordinary about you
