U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites.

1) Harry Potter

Sirius Black - Sirius has been my number one favourite character from any work of fiction since I was about 12. So like... over half my life. It’s almost hard for me to put to words why he’s my favourite, because he just feels so intrinsically tied to my heart. Sirius is good and brave and loving. He puts the people he loves before himself, always. First James and then Harry. He’s been through hell and he isn’t okay, but he’s kind. He’s cracked but not broken. I could write a 5000 word essay about why I love him so very much and how much he means to me. I have endless headcanons about him. Like. Endless. You know, he stayed in Azkaban and didn’t even try to escape until he found out Harry was in danger. He didn’t do it for himself, he did it because his love for his godson is so profound, and he had to protect him from Pettigrew. I just.... @ me some time for an essay about it. I won’t write more here but yeah he’s just... my favourite forever. 

Hermione Granger - Hermione got me through the worst time in my life. I’ve always related so very much to Hermione. I was bullied horribly in elementary school and high school (like to the point where I was escorted off the school premises by the police for my safety once, and the school board apparently had a meeting about my case. Like. It was BAD). And seeing how Hermione was so bullied, especially in the first book, and how Harry and Ron became her friends... I read that when I needed to read that the most in my life. In my heart, when I was growing up, I was Hermione, and when I had no one, I always had Harry and Ron. 

Remus Lupin - Goddamn I love Remus. He’s been through so much and has been ostracized for something that isn’t his fault for most of his life. He has a softness and a patience and a gentle kindness that I will always love him for. He’s such a wonderful teacher, and another parent to Harry. I want an au where Sirius and Remus raised Harry more than anything, y’all. Remus is just so beyond wonderful, I can’t even. 

2) Once Upon a Time

Charming / David - Y’all do I even need to say it? I love literally everything about Charming. He’s so profoundly selfless, loving, brave, kind, romantic, loyal... and yet flawed and real. He would do anything for his true love and his family. He’s the best dad and the best husband I can think of in fiction. He’s just the best and I love him with my whole heart. I could say so much more but I don’t want this post to go on for 100000 years.

Snow - Y’all know I love my Snow. Snow is strong and tough and brave, and yet she’s always forgiving, and soft in her love and understanding. She will do what she has to do to survive and to help those she loves, and even those she doesn’t. She has been hunted and tortured and traumatized, and yet always remains kind, forgiving and hopeful. I love her so very much. She reminds me of my late Baba, sometimes. My Baba was a holocaust survivor  -- her parents, siblings and best friend were all murdered (except for one brother), and she always said of the Nazi monsters who did those terrible things that she wouldn’t even slap their faces. Some people think Snow is weak for how forgiving she is, but I see nothing but strength in her. 

Emma - How can anyone not love Emma? She’s the one that started it all. She is her father’s daughter trough and through. She’s strong, passionate, takes no shit from anyone, and loves her family. Her relationship with her parents are two of my favourite platonic relationships of all time. (Also she’s a beautiful bisexual disaster and I love her.)

3) Marvel (especially MCU)

Jane Foster - LISTEN. I love Jane Foster with my whole entire heart and anyone who doesn’t love her can FIGHT ME. She’s a tiny fiery Jewish Genius and she’s the BEST. The first Thor movie is one of my favourite movies of all time. The beauty of a scientist falling in love with a God/Alien is just so profoundly beautiful, y’all. She’s strong and smart and brave and so very real and I love her so much. I am SO BLOODY PUMPED to see her become Thor in Love and Thunder. 

Thor - I fuckin love Thor, y’all. As you’d see the second you walking into my apartment. Thor has such a beautiful character arc in his first movie, going from a dumb, entitled jock to this caring, soft, kind man who saves kids and would do anything for his lil scientist soulmate. He is such a fish out of water, and he’s just such a wonderful, loving man and I love him SO MUCH. Also, his power set is just so fuckin cool, y’all. 

(oh gods now I have to pick between Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes, and Clint Barton???? How could you do this to me, Becky?!) 

Steve Rogers - Steve is the character who I most relate to in the MCU, especially pre-serum. I, too, am short and have shitty joints and will always stand up for the little guy. Steve is a tiny hero in the body of a suped-up god. All he wants is to do the right thing, to help everyone he can, and to protect Bucky Barnes. Steve and Bucky are one of my alltime big OTPs. That man was ready to start a whole goddamn war to protect Bucky, don’t @ me. Also, as the grandchild of holocaust survivors, how could I not absolutely adore a man who beats the shit outta Nazis? My Hero.

And since they did a paragraph instead of a sentence...👀 y’all know how I love to overshare while working on stuff, and I’m working on multiple things at once, most of which are different parts of my mdzs mer!au series...

1. 

This is kind of...my current main wip is actually combining 4 finished oneshots/drabbles into one piece and adding transitions and filler scenes to make it flow as best I can and make it a more coherent multi-chapter piece (who am I kidding though, I’ll end up probably doubling the overall word count in new added scenes), here’s the first paragraph of that:

The sound of cricket song fills Wei Wuxian’s ears, the clear, starry sky is filling his vision, and Lan Zhan’s hair is like silk against his fingers. It’s probably the most peaceful and content he’s ever felt. A moment he wishes could go on and on, endlessly.

But, since that was already technically finished as a standalone piece before I started combining these pieces, then the more correct ‘first line/s’ of this wip would be the new scene (which I’m still working on) I wrote to connect that first piece to the second one.

In which case:

Wei Wuxian stared at the ceiling for some time, his reaching hand long fallen back onto the bed. Another dream of seeing Lan Zhan again. Like all the others, it had felt so real. He had stopped visiting that pier in the hopes of seeing Lan Zhan again, but his mind kept sending him back there, night after night.

Still driving myself nuts over the tense change and transitioning it, but...present works really well for that initial dream sequence and I don’t want to re-write it XD wouldn’t be an issue if the first moments of waking weren’t also in present tense, making the transition super awkward, but I refuse to change them because it’s so beautiful and sad, I can’t mess with that 🤷‍♂️ I’ll just probably smack a chapter break between the two and torment my poor readers by leaving it on those sad lines for a few days before uploading the next chapter 😅

Oh man, though, if this was a ‘last line’ of your wip meme, y’all readers of my mer!au would lose your shit, I still squeal and flail whenever I look at the last lines of the last part that’s going into this multi-chapter set XD

Lan Xichen turned his face into the breeze. It ruffled his hair a little, what few strands weren’t smoothly pressed back, at least. It was still an almost uncomfortable sight, how similar their features were.

Wei Wuxian waited until Jiang Cheng was out of sight, and then his shoulders slumped. He lifted his hands to cover his face and inhaled slowly. He could barely contain himself, remembering Jiang Cheng caring for him like a younger brother, or maybe even a son. After the suspicion had passed, at least, but even then, he had been kinder to Wei Wuxian than he would have expected.

I went and started a mini-follow up to my 27k de-aged wwx fic that I may or may not have finished and may or may not still end up deleting, which was itself an alternate of an unposted oneshot focusing on lwj and lxc’s part of this same story and which I may or may not end up deleteting since I didn’t like it and that’s why I went and wrote jc and wwx’s side...sometimes it just be like that 🤷‍♀️ and god i want to write jin ling’s pov of the whole fucking thing too but yikes NO i need to stop

Kasen turned from the sheets he had just hung to dry, just for a moment, to see if Ookurikara’s distasteful state continued. He was resolved to say something if it did. There was only so much he could stand, and there was established etiquette for such things.

Whoops, also started a Kurikasen soulmate au cos I was throwing soulmate headcanons around with someone at like 2 in the morning and that’s a surefire recipe to get me writing (and in fact that’s how I started writing kurikasen in the first place, we were talking about them and I went onto ao3 and saw there 3 fics about them, went and was like OMG WHY to them, starting headcanoning with them and then hey next thing I knew I’d written 2 drabbles and it was 3am). But then while I started writing it we kept talking about it...so I sort of plotted the whole thing out and now my interest in writing it has plummeted so I’ll probably never finish it...but I’ve still been tinkering with it anyway...

“Pick herbs?”

“Yes. Herbs, mushrooms, anything. Just send him out of the castle for a day or two. If he stays a moment longer he’s going to cause an incident and—” Arthur stopped speaking abruptly.

Gaius raised both his eyebrows. “You are the prince, your highness. If you wish him to be gone for a time, why not order him yourself?”

“Oh, if there’s one thing I’ve learned about my useless servant, it’s that the only person he will actually listen to is you, Gaius,” Arthur said, sounding uncharacteristically bitter.

Sooo, @april-thelightfury115 I haven’t forgotten I owe you a merthur fic, and this isn’t technically the start of it, but it’s the start of the doc it’s in, I’m sort of writing bits of it out of order as they come to me. I haven’t written Merthur for so long and I don’t usually write with such a clear idea outline in my head so...we’ll see XD but I’m trying =)

ANYWAY

There’s a couple more small things here and there, I’ve been having such a hard time maintaining focus so I’ve just been hopping around my wips doing a little here and there, but let’s leave it with those 5 main things =)

Merlin 3x10 “Queen of Hearts” Highlights

I love that even in Morgana’s nightmares, Merlin is beaming with pride at his friend, Gwen

Gwen and Arthur’s love theme is so beautiful and tragic. All sweeping strings and melancholy notes. Gorgeous

Morgause’s creepy whisper lure whenever she wants to meet with Morgana

Listen, it doesn’t get said enough, but Katie McGrath is an amazing actress. Morgana comes into the room to talk to Arthur using the sweet, friendly voice that she had in the first season, but now it’s tinged with insincerity. She’s so good at playing Morgana playing innocent

Morgana tells Arthur that she knows Gwen has feelings for him too and immediately his face lights up and he’s all like “Really? Did she say something??” He’s such a dork

I keep getting distracted by the lute in the corner of Arthur’s room. Who’s playing it?? Is it Arthur when he wants to unwind?? Did Merlin learn to play so that he could serenade Arthur whenever His Highness wants music?? I MUST KNOW

Gwen is so practical and level-headed – I love seeing her getting to let go and just be happy for a while

Merlin’s little smile and “you look lovely” when he arrives to pick up Gwen is so sweet and wholesome

Arthur using the tray as a mirror and how he drops it because he forgets how to hands when Gwen and Merlin arrive

The thing I love about both Gwen and Merlin is how much they believe in Arthur and the good he can do for the kingdom. They’re prepared to do whatever it takes to see that happen and I love it so much

I just finished reading both of the latest fic recs in DNGG and like holy shit!!! They were so good!!! I usually don't read prison AUs but..!! I just wanted to say I love what you're doing. I've always wished authors would rec similar fics at the end of theirs, and you're doing that!! Thank you, it warms my heart (and gives me something to read while I wait for the update) to see that while you have such an AMAZING fic you don't forget about us and other authors either.

Here are the recs (Sterek unless stated otherwise) from the chapter that Nonnie mentioned, just in case you’re sitting around bored today, and have a weekend full of nothing better to do then consume fic:

Those Hidden Places by Mimiminaj A delicious prison AU that is actually pretty fluffy. (The non-con gets headed off before anything terrible happens, if that would have stopped you. Although you’re reading /this, so probably you’d have been fine with it.) Really enjoyable: sweet and hot and touching. It’s all Derek POV, and watching Stiles flail and ramble and (eventually) flirt from his perspective is a joy.

Is That A Wand In Your Pocket Or? by reptilianraven The one where Stiles is a magician who performs at kid’s birthday parties and Derek is a shy single dad baker who can’t stop seeing Stiles everywhere. There are also dead bodies popping up every other day, but Stiles really doesn’t need to know about that, so naturally, Stiles pops up at the crime scenes too. Fantastic. ***Alright. I just stumbled across this author and I’m head over heels. I spent a few days reading everything and bookmarking most of it. And the fact that they’re primarily rated G and T and I got sucked in even without the Explicit (which rarely happens) ought to tell you something about how lovely these stories are.

The foul rag and bone shop of the heart by WritersAreLiars A Steter: entirely delightful and unique… author creates a fantastic world and Stiles’ blithe disregard for traditions works very well with Peter’s scheming. Worth reading even if it’s never finished… but it probably will be, since the last post was current. WIP.

I was also cruising “buried alive” (which finds more than the tag #buried alive, fyi) and found tons of awesome stories, although most of them weren’t Teen Wolf. So if you’re into that,

Down Where It’s Tangled and Dark by stilinskisparkles This one is a riot, (stilinskisparkles always makes me happy). Stiles simply canNOT shut up, and Derek, well, he has a Stiles thing, so it’s okay, really. Cute and funny, which is weird, since it’s about being buried alive, heh.

The Price of Gold (Buried Alive) by paranoid_fridge The Hobbit. This one is epic, and really wonderful. Boy, did Thorin fuck up, and wow, is Bilbo paying a steep price. It’s pretty gut-wrenching, but there’s a happy ending.  Bagginshield.

These Breaths We Breathe by kayura_sanada Merlin. An unexpected gem! Inspired by absolutely gorgeous (and soul-wrecking) art, the author gathers steam and proceeds with a multi-part epic that begins with Merlin’s magic being discovered and himself walled living in a tomb; to placing himself in a death-like suspended animation to protect himself while Arthur must find a way to heal him; to, finally, being exiled from the kingdom while Arthur attempts to straighten it all out. Uther is a deliciously unrepentant monster, which is quite satisfying, and there’s lots of angst, pining, h/c, whump and a bit of sex here and there.  Merthur.

1. Describe your comfort zone—a typical you-fic.

So apparently I love writing about Arranged Marriages. I don’t really know why but well. When it comes to reading, I love angst fics with a happy ending. Or crack tbh.

2. Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?

Well, there’s the ABO wincest and merthur fic I’ve been trying to write but I’m really insecure about. And the wincest one I’m so unhappy with it omg. But it’s honestly a trope I wish I could finish a fic for and actually be happy with the result.

3. Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole?

I’ve read a couple of these, but it never really sat well with me, but homeless AUs where one of them are homeless always make me uncomfortable for some reason and I doubt I’d ever write something like that. I mean, I’m not going to say ‘never’ because I know better than to say this hahaha, but for now, it’s not something I’d be comfortable writing. But overall, I’m really open to many things and if it’s for a present or a prompt, I might try writing it, even if it’s just for the challenge of it. I like going out of my comfort zone little by little. I believe it makes me a better writer, so... :)

13. What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever come across?

I don’t know if it counts, but the ‘if there’s a fic with this trope/plotline’ out there, you can still write your own. And there was even a comparison about cakes. While you, as a writer/baker might feel intimidated by writing something similar to what others have already done, the readers/cake enthusiasts will be overjoyed to have more to read in that trope. So basically, just write what you feel like writing and don’t compare yourself to others.

14. What’s the worst writing advice you’ve ever come across?

Damn, idk. I don’t think I’ve come across bad advice in general? I got bad feedback (”this fic is shit, sorry” and “you should probably get a beta to help with your grammar” aka your grammar sucks but instead of offering to help i’m just going to point it out to you), but not bad writing advice. At least I can’t think of any, right now.

25. What do you look for in a beta?

YOU. No, but really, I always like having your feedback. I think a beta is supposed to be more than just a ‘find the typos/suggest other words or sentences/find your mistakes’ person. No, I want the person to give me feedback, to tell me what they liked or if there’s something odd with the story. Therefore, I mostly trust friends, because I know I won’t be offended, since I know y’all just want my story to be better. I’m not very good at receiving criticism, which is awful I know, but for now I ‘look for’ betas who I’m comfortable with, like you. ♥

26. Do you beta yourself? If so, what kind of beta are you?

Like I said above, when I do it, I try to give more feedback than just the ‘finding mistakes’ thing that is required. In all honesty, I know I have this problem that I almost don’t point out the good things, but since I’m focused trying to help improve something, if I didn’t mention something, it’s probably because it’s good. I wholeheartedly love the stories I help beta (like the wincest and the wolfstar one you sent me for the challenge), but I want to genuinely help you write the best thing ever, y’know? And I know I’m being a bit of a hypocrite because I didn’t like it when the feedback I received when I was teaching was all bad, even though I was aware that ‘if it wasn’t mentioned, it was because it was good’. I need to hear at least one good thing, and I always try to point out a few of my favourite things, but I know I suck and I’m overly critical and serious when I try to help and beta a fic. (which is why I’m more comfortable betaing fics for friends, like you hahahah)

OH BOY, SIT THE HELL DOWN BECAUSE I HAVE 029380923123 WIPS

The first one worth mentioning is Heartlines. It’s a bagginshield, arranged marriage AU and I’m so fucking proud of it. It’s fluffy, it’s cute, and it really makes me happy to write it. You should totally read it if you haven’t yet.

Then, I have the J2, Jessica Jones!AU that was supposed to be written for the SPN & J2 Big Bang, but it grew too much and it’s too big and I won’t be able to finish in time to post it. However, I have three finished chapters and I was thinking in maybe start posting it now. Or I’ll only post it once I’m finished. Idk. Thoughts?

Speaking of Big Bang, I was writing a wincest, omegaverse AU for the Wincest Big Bang but ugh, I’m so unhappy with that fic that I don’t know if I’ll finish it for the BB or not. It starts around the beginning of season 2 and it’s supposed to finish around season six, so, yeah. There’s a lot to cover yet and I’m not even sure anymore if I’m going to follow through with it.

WIPs that I have but I’m not currently working at are: Drarry, arranged marriage AU, mpreg; Wincest, Harry Potter AU; Merthur, Omegaverse AU; House MD crossover with Dead Poets Society, Hilson; Wincest, separated when young and don’t know they are brothers AU, non-supernatural AU; Thorki, Odin didn’t take Loki, who’s taken by a random jotun and protected, but Laufey is trying to find him to kill him; Thorki, arranged marriage AU, mpreg AU; Cherik, Little Mermaid AU. 

Some of these have been in my folder for YEARS. The drarry one, the hilson one and the second wincest are at least 7 years old. It’s awful, I need to get my shit together, hahahaha.
