Best Bluetooth Waterproof Earbuds for Swimming in 2024
Swimming is a refreshing way to stay active, but it can also be a bit repetitive without some entertainment. Listening to your favorite music, podcasts, or audiobooks can make those laps more enjoyable, but not all earbuds can withstand water. For swimmers, Bluetooth waterproof earbuds specifically designed to function in wet environments have become a go-to. Here’s a comprehensive guide to the best Bluetooth waterproof earbuds for swimming in 2024, helping you find the perfect pair to keep you motivated and entertained during your workouts.
Why You Need Specialized Waterproof Earbuds for Swimming
Regular Bluetooth earbuds aren’t designed to handle water exposure, especially prolonged immersion, which is why finding waterproof earbuds for swimming is essential. Waterproof earbuds for swimming typically come with:
High Waterproof Rating: Ensuring protection against water, from splashes to full immersion.
Secure Fit: So they stay in place during vigorous swimming.
Stable Connectivity: Either Bluetooth connection with waterproof devices or internal storage for on-device listening.
Good Battery Life: So they last through your swim sessions without needing frequent charges.
Let’s explore some of the best waterproof Bluetooth earbuds available for swimmers in 2024.
1. Sony NW-WS413 Walkman Waterproof and Dustproof MP3 Player
While technically a waterproof MP3 player with earbuds built-in, Sony’s NW-WS413 is one of the most reliable options for swimmers. It includes Bluetooth streaming for quick connectivity outside the pool but functions primarily as an offline music player while swimming.
Key Features:
IP68 Waterproof Rating: Suitable for both freshwater and saltwater swimming.

2. Aftershokz Xtrainerz Bone Conduction Headphones
Aftershokz Xtrainerz are unique due to their bone conduction technology, which allows sound to be transmitted through cheekbones, leaving your ears open. This technology makes them great for swimmers who want to stay aware of their surroundings while listening to audio.

Bone Conduction Technology: Ideal for hearing external sounds in open water.
Internal Storage: 4GB of storage for MP3 files.

3. Finis Duo Underwater MP3 Player
The Finis Duo Underwater MP3 Player is designed with swimmers in mind. It’s a bone conduction player that attaches to your goggles and sits on your cheekbones, freeing your ears. This makes it ideal for a secure, comfortable fit during water workouts.
Key Features:
IPX8 Waterproof Rating: Suitable for underwater use up to 3 meters.
Bone Conduction: Sends audio through your cheekbones for a unique experience.
4GB of Storage: Allows for hours of music playback.

4. H2O Audio Sonar Headphones
H2O Audio is a company dedicated to waterproof audio devices, and the Sonar headphones are some of the best waterproof earbuds for swimmers. They use bone conduction technology and come with a unique feature for swimming.

Key Features:
IPX8 Waterproof Rating: Built for underwater use.
Multiple Ear Tips: Comes with four different earbud types for a custom fit.
Short Cord Design: Prevents drag in the water.
Compatibility: Pairs with most waterproof MP3 players.
Pros:
Secure and customizable fit.
Excellent durability for underwater use.
Minimal cord drag while swimming.
Cons:
No built-in Bluetooth or internal storage.
Best For: Swimmers who prefer high-quality wired earbuds that can pair with other waterproof music players.
What to Consider When Buying Waterproof Bluetooth Earbuds for Swimming
1. Waterproof Rating: Look for a minimum of IPX7, but IPX8 is better if you plan to fully submerge the earbuds regularly.
2. Audio Quality: While audio quality underwater can vary, bone conduction and direct sound conduction are generally best for clear audio in water.
3. Battery Life: Since swimming workouts can last a while, look for earbuds with long battery life.
4. Fit and Comfort: Secure earbuds or headbands are essential to ensure your earbuds stay in place.
5. Storage and Connectivity Options: Earbuds with internal storage allow you to load music directly onto them, avoiding Bluetooth limitations underwater.
Final Thoughts
Finding the right pair of waterproof Bluetooth earbuds for swimming can significantly enhance your experience in the pool or open water. Whether you’re looking for something affordable, with advanced bone conduction technology, or an all-in-one waterproof MP3 player, there’s an option out there for you. Before making a purchase, consider your swimming style, whether you want Bluetooth connectivity outside the water, and how comfortable you need the earbuds to be. With the right choice, your next swim session will be accompanied by all your favorite tunes.

Since the pool reopened last June, our local YMCA has required members to schedule their lane time. Starting Monday, April 19, scheduling in advance is no longer necessary. The social distancing, maximum lane occupants, and mask requirements will stay in place, but you better get there early, because I’m looking for a place to splash. #KeepMovingForward #CancerActive #PandemicSwimClub #SupportYourLocalYMCA #XTrainerZ #BoneheadSwimming #BoneheadCoaching (at Black Mountain YMCA) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNvwoYsBk53/?igshid=1ek406xxzs3he

Credit to @justsmile_justtri : How comfortable are you swimming in open water? . When I was a teen I used to spend summertime in Tuscany with my cousins. One day we decided to race from buoy to buoy. What I remember of that “race” is the total panic I had after few strokes. The sea under me felt so deep and the blue of the water looked so dark, I just couldn’t move forward (or backwards) because I was too scared. . The sea still gets me like that, I have to be able to see the bottom or I won’t move. . The lake doesn’t, not even those muddy lakes in Texas where you couldn’t see your own hand. . Why? . I don’t know. I think it is because it’s easier to sight, or maybe because I have always swam in relatively small lakes where reaching the shore is easier...who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️! . Anyway, today I really wanted to go swimming, but no one could join me, so I just went SOLO! . Was I anxious? . Maybe a little, but I went prepared (which I believe is the key to lower your anxiety level)! . Here a list of things that helped my longest solo swim to date being so successful! . Of course my @newwaveswimbuoy! This bright buoy is always with me, I just can’t swim without it, or it feels like a piece of me is missing! . My @oncoursegoggles are a piece of mind, because I can focus on my breath and relax, without the anxiety to constantly check if I am going in the right direction. . For the first time today I tried the Xtrainerz by @aftershokz and, once again, these headphones were a game changer!Listening to the music, singing my 90’s songs, kept my mind busy and the time just flew by! . and of course my @roadid with all my info on it! . Now, if you have read this long post til the end, what are your tips for a relax solo open water swim? . . . . #soloswim #anxiety #swimtips #swim #swimming #swimmer #triathlon #triathlontraining #triathleteintraining #halfironmantri #halfironman #himtraining #loveswimming #swimpics #triswimpics #3athlonlife #swimaddict #trilife #womenwhotri #ows #newwaveswimbuoy #openwater #nuotoinacquelibere #justsmile_justtri #swimon #speedopartner #teamroadid #ows #goggles #bebrightbeseen #shokzstar — view on Instagram https://newaveswim.com/32iPOsq

The Latest Swimming Tech & Gadgets
The pool swim coaching season is almost upon us, but how do the newest swim tech help triathletes enhance from the water? We investigate the most recent aquatic gadgets.
For several years in the sports of swimming and triathlon, we have been able to benefit from products that'll make us swim quicker thanks to additional buoyant materials such as neoprene. In multisport we have tri-specific wetsuits, and in the event of competition swimming, the technology advances culminated in Speedo producing the LZR Racer bodysuit, created from a mixture of elastane-nylon and polyurethane that permeate the swimmer's body and repelled more water than the plain old skin.
The LZR resulted in a flurry of world records falling between 2008 and 2009, so many in fact that swimming's governing body, FINA, determined the benefit was too great and the suits were banned. The new regulations took effect on 1 January 2010, together with the principles saying that swimwear must be made of woven materials.
The FINA ban has led to a greater emphasis being placed on the development of training programs to assist swimmers and coaches understand how to produce efficiency and technique improvements. Therefore, while wetsuits can allow you to reduce drag, what technology can actually improve your strategy and make you a faster swimmer? And what is in store for your future?
Tumblr media
PACING CONTROL Swimming can be a lonely game and yes, pretty tedious during lengthy pool sessions, meaning it can be tricky to maintain your form perfect with an optimal stroke speed and cadence. A tool that's been helping swimmers set their speed and track stroke rate effectively for several years now is the Tempo Trainer from Finis. It's basically a metronome, fitting beneath a swim cap and beeping at the specific stroke tempo you will need to keep to.
Among 220's swim specialists, John Wood is a fan of the simple yet powerful device. The tech has existed for quite a long time, but it is great that it is now so widely available.
The idea has made it on more technologically-advanced goods, like the new FX-Sport bone-conducting swim cans. Primarily they are for listening to music while you swim, but they also come pre-loaded using a tempo coach and lap-time pacemaker. For triathletes who like to train with music, bone-conducting technology means we no longer have to wear earbuds that muffle noise and are liable to slip out of your ears when swimming quickly or flip-turning on the wall. Examples include the Finis Duo and the Xtrainerz from Aftershokz.
FORM FACTOR For swim monitoring, there are loads of watches out there that could tell you time, speed, and distance. Watches with open-water features like the Garmin Forerunner 945, pictured here, will often use GPS, whereas at a pool the precision is greatest with an accelerometer that is already programmed to calculate your number of laps.
Even though a multisport watch with GPS is going to be the best alternative for triathlon and open-water races, they are often quite bulky and, in the pool, many aggressive swimmers will prefer to keep their wrists bare to avoid whacking lane ropes and other swimmers. It's why we're seeing increasing amounts of wearable technology that fits beneath a swim cap or into your goggle straps, one notable example being the Polar OH1 optical heartbeat sensor. This simply clips into your goggle straps, and you may share the information with your favorite fitness programs via Bluetooth to get post-swim analysis.
We are also seeing a growing amount of applications and performance evaluation tools to help swimmers and their coaches, For several years Swimming Technology Research (STR) have been in the forefront of the development.
