Aww this was cute! See Dongju! I didn’t ruin it! If anything I made it look better! But considering he still hasn’t cut his hair, I’d say he’s very defensive about it, just like how he was in this adorable little Drabble! Thank you for writing this! A perfect little fluff piece for a lazy morning!
pretty and pretty
warnings: nothing but fluff ♡
summary: gn reader helps boyfriend!Dongju maintain his pretty hair :")
milky's 💌: so i bought a blood moon album and received two pcs of Dongju and his pretty long locks and well,,,,,, it's Dongju hours y'all
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
you chase Dongju around the house with a hairbrush in one hand and a hair tie in the other.
"come here, princess! let me help you with your hair!" you call after him.
he lets out a horrified laugh as he continues running away.
"why are you running?" you ask with a pout, stopping in the doorway of the bathroom.
"you'll ruin my hair, i just know it!" Dongju exclaims.
you firmly shake your head and promise him that you'll be gentle. slowly, like a cautious cat, he reveals himself to you and you take his hand, guiding him to your shared room.
"sit here," you say, patting the part of the bed that sits opposite a full length mirror.
"i can see you through here! i'll get mad if you ruin my hair," Dongju warns you.
you nod and take the hairbrush you've been holding, running it gently through his locks. you're careful to not let it hurt him, and if it does, you quickly apologize and kiss the top of his head as Dongju jokingly frowns at you.
with his hair neatly brushed, you carefully gather the top half of his hair into a pony tail, passing the hairtie from your hands to his hair. when it's done, you feel like something is missing. so, you pick up a loose ribbon from your bedside table and tie it to his hair, too.
"are you done, yet?" Dongju asks.
you hesistate to say yes, rushing to the bathroom first to pick up some cute hair clips and attach them to his hair.
"i think... you're set, now," you say.
Dongju happily looks at himself in the mirror, admiring his hair.
"i look so good... can't you do it for me like this everyday?" he asks, looking up at you.
you kiss his forehead and tell him you'll do it if he'll let you. he reaches for your hand and pulls you down to hug you, burying his face in your shoulder.
"do you want to take photos?" you ask him, booping his nose with your finger.
he scrunches up his face at the touch, nodding yes. so, despite the cold weather, the two of your trudge out in loose, wool sweaters to take photos of one another. you had told Dongju you'll just take photos of him, but he'd told you he has to take some of you, too.
"you're the prettiest person alive, how could i not take any photos?" he'd told you while holding both of your hands.
"but you're pretty," you replied.
"i guess that makes us pretty and pretty," he said, kissing the side of your mouth.
after your wintery photoshoot ends, instead of rushing back inside to your apartment, Dongju takes your hand and runs to the nearest café. by his logic, it'll be better to warm up there while holding a hot drink.

Another Side: Part 3
Summary: In which 358/2 Days gets severely derailed in order to give Roxas the domestic life he deserves before KH2.

“What is the underground concourse used for?”
Nana, who was working on a small appliance, didn’t respond. Roxas stood next to her in wait- pretty much unaware of how little personal distance he was giving her. Nana was starting to get uncomfortably aware of it, though. She started with a few side glances as a warning before putting a pause on her repair altogether. Roxas continued to simply stare at her.
“A lotta words are comin’ out of you recently.” she noted at first. “Not sure if I should be proud, or scared.”
Roxas gave her a curious tilt of his head. “Why would you be scared?”
But she didn’t answer him. Instead she let out a bemused huff before telling him, “It’s no big deal.”
She then got to her feet with a small grunt.
“Regardless,” she said, “I think it’s mostly for tram maintenance. Getting a train from one end of Twilight Town to another. They’re not the main tracks, mind you, just the ones they use if one breaks down.”
“Do the people that work there wear black coats?”
That earned him a funny look.
“No…?” Nana said as she shifted her weight, placing her hand on her hip. “They shouldn’t. It’s just a bunch of mechanics like I am- but better trained for the big stuff. I like staying small, you see. I have a better chance of keeping my fingers that way.” She paused for a moment, then tacked on a curious, “Why?”
“It’s nothing…” Roxas mumbled as he looked down at the floor. This did not ease Nana’s own curiosity now.
“Well, if it’s ‘just nothing’, how about you do me a favor?” She asked before going to get a box on the other end of the room. She presented it to Roxas with a bit of a grunt. “Can you take this box to the jewelry shop in the square? It’s for the owner. Be careful, though, it’s really heavy and I’d like to not fix it again.”
“Okay.” the boy nodded as he carefully took the box from her. It was definitely a lot heavier than what he was expecting. What on earth would the jewelry shop do with something this heavy? It almost made him want to steal a peek.
Not that he would have been able to tell what it was, probably.
Roxas left Nana's shop and started his way to the jewelry store. It wasn't that long a walk.
“Ah!” the jewelry shop owner greeted once they saw Roxas- or, more accurately, what he was holding. “I've been waiting for that to come in all morning! Tell Nana she's really saved my bacon!”
Roxas just gave a polite smile as he handed the box over. Leaving was just as uneventful. He started his way back home with his 'mission' finished.
And that was when he saw them again- one of those people in the black coats. The figure indicated that it was the smaller one he had seen yesterday.
“H-hey!” he shouted at them. “Hey you!”
The figure turned around. They then gave a start when they realized they recognized him. In a split second, the figure took off in a sprint.
“Hey!” Roxas shouted as he also started to work into a run. “Come back!”
The call had been ignored. The figure ran even faster.
Whoever it was, they weren’t very nimble. Not that Roxas had much to say in the department either, honestly. But that only meant he could still get rather close- while still being too far away. When the person went into the concourse, Roxas thought for sure that he was going to lose them. He didn’t know what kind of luck they had when the person backed themselves into a corner. They apparently had not been anticipating one of the gates to be down.
“Gtocha.” Roxas said once he caught up with them, huffing.
The figure spun around. They were trying to make a gesture of trying to open some sort of door, or grasping for a door handle, but nothing was happening. It only seemed to cause more panic in the person.
“You don’t have to run, you know.” Roxas prudently told them. “I just wanted to say hello.”
That made the person freeze what they were doing. It was enough of letting their guard down that Roxas decided to continue.
“My name is Roxas. What’s yours?”
The figure recoiled slightly. They even shook their head in refusal. This struck Roxas as weird, leading him to voice the first conclusion that came to his mind.
“Do you even have a name?”
The figure let out a sound that was a lot like mild offense. Hearing it put a new round of annoyance in Roxas’s attitude as well.
“If you have a name, then why won't you tell me?” Roxas then prudently asked.
The figure seemed to just stare at him for a little moment before slowly remembering something. They pulled into a pocket in their black coat and pulled out a small business card.
They handed it to Roxas, careful not to touch him. Roxas took the card with just as much care.
“Xion.” he read off of the card. As he looked up, he started to say, “That’s a-” before realizing that she was already gone. Disappointed, Roxas finished his sentence with a small, “Nice name…” before giving a shake of his head.
. . .
Roxas stared at the card as he laid in his bed. It was such a simple thing. Possibly made on cardstock with just the person's name on it. No warnings, no other markings, just 'Xion'. In a way it was rather crude. If someone wanted to warn that they were a mute, or just couldn't communicate with their mouth, wouldn't there have been something more there?
A sigh escaped Roxas's lips. Those people in the black coats were just getting weirder and weirder.
His thoughts were put on hold when Nana knocked on his door.
“Hey kiddo,” she greeted, “I've got some pizza if you want to dig in with me.” Then she noticed the business card. “Whatcha got there?”
“I met one of those people in the black coats.”
Nana raised an eyebrow.
“You mean the guys you saw near the concourse and asked if they worked there?”
“Yeah.” Roxas nodded, handing the card over to her. “They didn't talk, but they were still able to give me their name.”
Nana's odd glance did not leave as she came over to look at the card. She noticed the name being the only thing on the card, and in a breath said, “Weird.”
She handed the card back to Roxas, then folded her arms in thought.
“I can't recall anyone in black coats coming or going around here. They either new or someone that none of us should be messing with. Be careful around them until we know which is which, alright?”
Roxas looked at his caretaker. For a moment he wanted to argue. The next moment he wondered why he felt so strongly about it.
“Alright.” he finally agreed.
“Thatta boy.” Nana approved, even moving to ruffle his hair. “The pizza offer still stands if you want any, by the way.”
“I hear. Thanks.”
Nana gave him a smile. Roxas couldn't help but give one back. After this moment of solidarity between them, Nana left Roxas's room again. Left alone to his thoughts, Roxas took a look at the card once more. He sighed as he closed his eyes.
Xion.
He'd have to find her again.
. . .
“You are nothing but a failure.”
Xion flinched. She wasn't sure how Saix knew that someone had caught her while on her mission, but he had. Unless it was the fact that she couldn't summon a Corridor of Darkness on her own yet. Either one didn't look good for her.
“Cut the kid some slack, Saix.” Axel said. “It was her first mission alone. What else would you expect?”
Saix gave an annoyed grunt.
“Do not let it happen again.” he informed Xion, not even bothering to look at Axel.
Xion nodded. She wouldn't mess up again. She wouldn't get caught by... by Roxas again.
Her spot in the Organization depended on it.

I am but a measly 2:00:15 into the genre-defining "Riku is Gay" video, but like. Damn, Tennelle Flowers is a cinematic genius. I've remained so thoroughly enthralled by the tasteful spacing of audio commentary, clips from the games, and excerpts from the novels/writer interviews that I've hardly even noticed the time passing. What is this video laced with, man- I love video essays, but usually I have to rewind a gazillion times due to my attention slipping against my will.
That collage of comparison clips from KH2 Beast's arc and Riku's KH1-KH2 arc is killing me, man. Ever wish you could tattoo a part of a video to your forehead? Apparently, now I do.

Just a Few Minutes
Part of “My Special Somebody: Rokushi Drabbles” on AO3/ff.net
Summary: For whatever reason, anytime Roxas was in Xion’s room for a while, Lea would try to find an excuse to kick the boy out of there, saying it’s ‘not proper to be hanging around in a girl’s room’. It almost sounded like something straight out of Isa’s mouth.
Rating: G
Word Count:  1506
Ch. 1 | Ch. 2 | Ch. 3 | Ch. 4 | Ch. 5
Roxas nearly fell out of his bed at the sound of his gummiphone suddenly ringing out of the blue.
Everyone, including him, was given one of these devices to keep in contact with each other, which did come in handy from time to time when the people closest to him were elsewhere. But it was times like these where he just wanted to chuck it out the window. Who would be calling him now of all times anyway?
The boy drowsily reached for the gummiphone sitting on the nightstand before pressing the big green button on the small screen. Roxas was expecting to see someone on the other end, but the screen was a bit dark. He rubbed his eyes momentarily to adjust his vision when a figure came into view; a familiar face he couldn’t forget.
“Xion?”
“I’m sorry,” she suddenly mumbled, “I didn’t mean to wake you up.”
Roxas immediately sat upright, worried something might have happened. “Nah, it’s fine. I’m awake. Is something wrong?”
The girl remained silent for a moment before shaking her head. “I’m okay. I guess I’m just having a little trouble falling asleep, is all. You don’t mind talking right now, do you…?”
Relief washed over Roxas at that moment almost at the same time he felt his heart do a flip. Had it been anyone else that called him, he was sure it could wait until the following day. But Xion was an exception. He really liked talking to her. And he would do anything to make her happy after all they went through.
“Want me to come over there?” He asked.
A quiet giggle was heard on her end.
“Axel said we should stay in our own rooms, remember?”
Roxas slightly pouted his lips. Back in their Organization days, the former Nobody would come and visit Xion’s room to check up on her, occasionally bringing her a variety of seashells like she did for him. Now they were living together with Lea and Isa in their own little abode in Twilight Town. But for whatever reason, anytime Roxas was in Xion’s room for a while, Lea would try to find an excuse to kick the boy out of there, saying it’s ‘not proper to be hanging around in a girl’s room’. It almost sounded like something straight out of Isa’s mouth.
That wasn’t going to stop him though.
“It’ll only be a few minutes,” Roxas went on, already hopping out of the bed.
Xion watched him intently through the screen, giggling softly as she stood up from her own bed. “I’ll just meet you in the living room instead.”
“Heh... yeah, that works too.”
From there, they both ended the call and quietly made their way out of the bedrooms. Roxas caught a glimpse of Xion heading to the living room area, only to see her immediately stop just steps away from the couch. Roxas wondered what happened that made her come to a sudden halt, but he got his answer right away when he heard loud snores emitting from that same spot.
Xion looked over her shoulder to see Roxas walking over to her side, both of them peeking from behind the couch to see their fiery red haired friend sleeping soundly while hogging up the seat. They looked back to each other, trying to stifle their laughter.
“Doesn’t he already have a bed?” Roxas muttered, gesturing over to one of the rooms nearby. Xion giggled softly, leaning over to the blond.
“Should we wake him up?”
Another loud snore echoed through the room. The pair froze up for a moment before Roxas shook his head.
“Nah, let’s just leave him. He’s probably gonna wonder why we’re still awake.”
Xion nodded in agreement as she glanced down to Roxas’ hand, taking it into her own. “Would it be okay to go to your room for a bit then?”
There was that weird fluttery feeling in his chest again. The boy turned to look at Xion, who was looking up at him with an innocent smile. He gave her a shy smile in return and nodded.
“Yeah, let’s go.”
———————————————————————————————————–
Xion liked her solitude, but she always felt more at ease when Roxas was around. She already felt a little better knowing he was beside her with his comforting warmth. The girl smiled softly as she shut her eyes and nuzzled Roxas’ shoulder, while his gaze was fixed on the ceiling, wondering what was on her mind. She seemed peaceful for the time being, but sometimes he couldn’t tell for sure if something was bothering her.
“So…” Roxas began, his eyes still on the ceiling above, “Are you feeling sleepy yet?”
Xion hummed in response, moving in closer to him. “Mmmm… maybe I will in a few minutes.”
“I thought you said you wanted to talk,” he pointed out.
“Isn’t that what we’re doing right now?”
Roxas tilted his head slightly before reaching out to tickle Xion, causing her to nearly squeal in surprise.
“N-No! Roxas!” She whispered loudly, squirming around in hopes of getting him to stop. Roxas chuckled as he pulled away and propped his elbow on the pillow, resting his head on his hand while facing Xion. He couldn’t help but stare at her fondly, admiring how precious she was to him. He couldn’t imagine not seeing that smile of hers again.
“You sure you’re alright?” He wondered.
Xion’s smile faltered slightly as her gaze shifted away from him.
“I had a bad dream again,” she whispered softly.
“About what?”
The girl got lost in thought as she anxiously twiddled with a strand of her hair, aware that Roxas was still staring at her. “...About losing everyone close to me. I couldn’t tell for sure, but it all seemed so real… it was scary.”
Xion’s voice became lower as she curled up beside him, still not meeting her eyes with his. Even though most things had settled down for the Keyblade Wielders, bad memories of the past still came back to haunt them. Despite this, they now had each other to get through it all, both the good and the bad.
Roxas reached out and brought his free arm around Xion, gently pulling her closer to him for comfort. “It was just a dream. We’re not going anywhere… I’m not going anywhere. I’ll always be here for you, okay?”
Xion buried her head in his chest, losing herself in his scent as the room fell silent.
Thump thump… thump thump… thump thump…
It wasn’t until now that she noticed she’s never been this close to Roxas to hear his heartbeat. The sound was soothing to listen to, reminding her that this was all real. Roxas was really here with her.
Xion smiled as she comfortably nestled in his arms.
“You’ve always been there for me,” she spoke softly.
Roxas’ lips curved into a small smile, holding her tightly. “Of course… you’re my best friend.”
No, that didn’t sound right. He wasn’t completely wrong, but he was certain there was more to it.
“Err… my bestest friend…” Roxas paused, attempting to rephrase himself again, “I-I mean… I like you more than a friend…?”
Xion pulled herself away to meet her big blue eyes with his. At the same time, Roxas suddenly felt his cheeks getting warm and it didn’t help that he probably sounded a bit silly still trying to figure out where he stood with Xion. Why did it suddenly feel so weird talking about his feelings with her?
Before Roxas was able to question it any further, he felt something soft brush against his lips. He didn’t process it right away since it happened very fast, but it eventually hit him when Xion pulled away seconds after. He wasn’t really sure how to react. Even Xion was a little unsure about what she did, despite initiating the gesture.
But it was nice.
“I like you too, Roxas,” she smiled timidly with rosy cheeks, “I really like being with you… and I appreciate all the things you’ve done for me. It truly means a lot.”
Roxas gave her a gentle smile, taking this chance to pull her back closer to him once more. Only this time, he took a brief moment to plant a small kiss on her forehead, as a way to return the favor from moments ago before wrapping his arms around her.
“Anything for you, Xion.”
The girl blissfully hummed to herself, shutting her eyes in the process. Roxas unknowingly began to do the same. And before they knew it, they were sound asleep in each other's arms.
Only to be found by Lea hours later.
He was flabbergasted when he found Xion sleeping in Roxas’ bed. But there was just something reassuring about seeing his friends in a peaceful state. After all they went though, he figured they deserved to be happy, even if it meant doing whatever it takes to always be together.
“Those two just can’t stay apart,” he chuckled, quietly turning on his heel to leave them be.

Angeal and his grandma mentality
After long three hours dealing with paperwork after his shift was over, all Zack wanted was some rest, some good, well deserved rest, and for that he first passed by Angeal's apartment to pick up his children he had left with Angeal for him to tend while he was working.
"Hey, man. Sorry it took so lo— WHAT THE HELL?!" Zack looked at the sheer chaos his mentor's house was in. Vanitas was running around playing Nerf while his brother Sora who was building targets with his new gigantic Lego set and Angeal was sitting down by Xion who was playing restaurant with him... Thing is... None of this toys belonged to his kids before he left to work.
"Dad, dad! Check it out!" Vanitas managed to shoot Zack right between his eyes with his Nerf.
"Ow— what the... Who the heck gave you these?!" Zack asked while looking at the clearly expensive Nerf.
"Look daddy! I made a gun out of Lego! Pew pew!" Sora said excitedly, the little boy with brown hair and blue eyes had the most excited of looks on his face.
"The hell..." Zack looked at it and at the giant box it came in. "What the— that set's expensive as hell!" He said completely dumbfounded.
"Daddy! Here!" The little girl with black hair and blue eyes, Xion, approached his father with plastic cookies. "For you!"
"Oh, uh, thanks sweetie." He took the plastic toy, looking not only at the little toy oven, but the entire kitchen set. "Hm, delicious, hunny." Zack said while glaring at his mentor who was clearly responsible for this and was purposefully avoiding to look at Zack.
"It's a hundred gil!" She raised her hand towards Zack with a big smile, albeit missing a tooth.
"Wait— you teeth fell?!" Zack kneeled and looked at his daughter's mouth.
"I fell and broke my teeth! So uncle Angie bought me a kitchen!" She then ran to hug Angeal, who tried to keep his stern face. "Thank you, uncle Angie!" Xion sweetly said.
"Y-you're welcome, Xion." Angeal said trying to keep his cool, though Zack's death glare wasn't helping.
"Alright, why don't you kids go get your stuff while I talk to uncle Angie?" Zack said trying to keep calm.
Once the children left, Angeal stood up.
"Alright, I can explain—" Zack interrupted him.
"WHY?! JUST— WHY ON EARTH?! THAT NERF'S OVER TWO THOUSAND GIL, THE KITCHEN SET OVER A THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED AND THE LEGO'S ALMOST TEN THOUSAND!" Zack yelled completely out of his mind.
Angeal looked away. "... They said they wanted it..."
"And because of that you thought it was reasonable to buy them all those expensive toys?!"
Angeal kept quiet for a moment. "They played dirty, they kept making puppy faces for me..."
"OF COURSE THEY WOULD! Why didn't you keep firm?!" He looked at the expensive sets. "You always complained I was financially irresponsible, but who, between the two of us, spent over twelve thousand Gil on toys because the children said they wanted it?" Zack asked with a serious tone. "I'm not angry you bought them toys, just why such expensive ones?! They understand the concept of 'not worth the price', why didn't you just explained it to them?!"
"Oh, grow up, I told you already the moment these children would be under my supervision I would spoil them rotten." Angeal scolded Zack.
"YOU DON'T SPEND TWELVE THOUSAND GIL ON A MONTH, YET THE FIRST MOMENT I LET YOU ALONE WITH MY KIDS YOU SPENT IT NO TROUBLE!" Zack scolded him back. He took a deep breath to calm down. "Look, I know you love them, but when you want to gift them toys, try first seating down and talk to them about looking for something more reasonably priced. They can accept a 'no', you know?"
"Bold of you to assume I wouldn't say yes in a heartbeat." Angeal replied without even thinking twice.
Zack sighed frustrated, he looked to the side and saw his kids eavesdropping, Vanitas left the room closing the door behind him, he walked towards Zack and gave him his Nerf.
"Here. I don't want it." Vanitas said with a calm look.
"Now look what you've done!" Angeal complained to Zack.
"Shut it." Zack said sternly to Angeal, he then turned his gaze towards Vanitas and kneeled to his level. "Why are you giving me this?" He calmly asked his son.
"I don't want uncle Angie to go broke because of toys." Vanitas said seriously, Zack had to hold back his laughter. Vanitas then turned to Angeal and pointed at him. "He needs his retirement home money." Vanitas said innocently.
Zack couldn't take, he started rolling on the ground laughing at Vanitas downright calling Angeal OLD without even thinking twice, while Angeal himself was there dumbfounded at being called old by the kid.
"... I'm just nine years older than your father, Vanitas." Angeal said serious.
"... Old." The little boy calmly replied.

Salty Sweet (Akurokushi)
Fandom: Kingdom Hearts
Pairing: Axel/Roxas/Xion
Rating: Gen
Summary: The ice cream stall only had one sea salt ice cream left, so Roxas decides the best thing to do is to share.
Read on ao3
Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, Roxas caught sight of Xion emerging at the edge of the clock tower. She had set out to buy their daily salty treat quite some time ago, so worry had begun to settle in his stomach.
"Xion!" he exclaimed, his voice filled with a mixture of excitement and relief. He blinked in confusion, however, when he noticed that she was clutching two ice creams of different colors. One was a familiar shade of sea blue while the other was a creamy white hue which he had never seen before.
Xion's voice trailed off as she spoke, her gaze fixed on the white ice cream in her hand. "They only had one left... I wasn't sure what else to get or who should have it."
“Oh.” Roxas stared for a moment, transfixed by the sight of the new treat. For some reason, he had never fully processed that there were other flavors of ice cream that they could try. For all he knew, this new treat might be the best thing he had ever tasted. And yet, it could also be nothing but a sad imitation to their beloved sea salt flavor.
Xion lifted the ice cream stick up high so that it glimmered in the light of the setting sun. “It’s called Vanilla. The ice cream guy said it was the closest thing he had.”
She walked over to the clocktower’s edge and very carefully sat down while still holding onto both ice creams. Her gaze remained on them as she thought hard enough that Roxas was sure he could feel it.
“We could share it…Both of them,” he reasoned. That made the most sense. That way neither of them would need to miss out.
Xion bit her lip. “I guess that makes sense.”
There was an awkward pause between them while they both just sat there unmoving. Sensing her hesitation, Roxas decided he better make the first move. It was his brilliant idea, after all.
He took the blue ice cream from her hand. Closing his eyes, he bit into the edge of the treat. A contrasting blend of salt and sweetness hit his tongue, sending waves of delight through his senses.
When he reopened his eyes, he saw that she had taken a bite out of the vanilla ice cream. Her eyes were wide and she was grinning. “It isn’t sea salt, but it’s really good!” she exclaimed gleefully. “Here, you have to try it.”
She pushed the ice cream stick into his free hand with so much excitement that she tilted a little too far over the side of the tower. With a laugh, she righted herself and took the sea salt ice cream.
He watched her take a bite at the same time he took his own. The flavor was softer on his tongue, but it was sweet and rich and smooth.
Smiling at each other, they exchanged sticks again and repeated their actions. After a while, it became a bit tedious to keep swapping the sticks back and forth, so they ended up moving closer and holding the sticks between them where they could both lean in to reach the creamy treats.
“Ahem.” Started at the sound of someone clearing their throat, the two of them jolted apart.
Roxas’ heart skipped a beat as he turned to see who had disturbed them. Unsurprisingly, it was Axel who had promised to meet them today as usual. “What took you so long?” Roxas asked.
Their older friend scratched the back of his spiking hair. “They were all out of sea salt ice cream. Had a tough time deciding what else to get. Finally settled on mint chip.” He held up a spotted green treat which he used to gesture at them accusingly. “What exactly have you two been up to in my absence?”
For some reason, Roxas felt like he should feel embarrassed but he didn’t understand why. “We were just sharing since there was only one left.”
Axel groaned, plopping down on Roxas’ opposite side. “At least get a bowl if you’re gonna do that,” he explained in exasperation.
Roxas tilted his head. “Why?”
Axel rolled his eyes, shaking his head in disbelief. “So you don’t share germs that way.” When they both just looked at him in confusion, he continued. “That’s what’s called an indirect kiss. You’re only supposed to kiss someone special.”
Xion grinned. “Roxas is special.”
Axel let out a breathy laugh. Gaze softening, he reached over to touch her shoulder. “Course he is, same as you. But you still shouldn’t do it.”
Her grin turned into a pout. “Why not?”
Roxas wanted to know as well. As long as he thought Xion was special and they were both okay with it, why was it a big deal?
“You should wait until you’re older.”
Roxas crossed his arms, careful not to drop the ice cream in the process. “That’s stupid.”
Axel chuckled. “Okay, fine. You shouldn’t do other stuff until you’re older.”
Roxas raised his eyebrows. “Other stuff?”
Axel squeezed his shoulder this time, a playful smirk crossing his face. “Nothing you need to worry about. Still, you can’t just go kissing all of your friends.”
“Why not? You’re special too, Axel,” Xion declared, her eyes shining with sincerity.
Axel smiled. “Because you kiss someone as a way of letting that person know you would like to spend the rest of your life together.”
Xion’s free hand clenched over her cloak. “But I want to spend it with both of you.”
“Thanks, kid, but things might change.”
She shook her head. “So what? If I want that now then why does the future matter?”
Axel looked unsure how to respond to that question.
“Yeah,” Roxas agreed in a steady tone. “Shouldn’t it only matter what we want right now?”
Axel leaned back on his arm, his gaze drifting off to the colorful horizon. “Guess adults just think too much,” he said wistfully.
Roxas watched intently as Axel finally allowed himself to indulge in his ice cream. He wanted to know what it tasted like. He also wanted to show Axel that he didn’t need to worry about pointless things.
Without a word, Roxas ducked his head over and stole a bit of the redhead’s treat. It was refreshing and cool with a hit of richness.
Axel stared at him wide-eyed, his breath hitching strangely. “Roxas,” he started in a warning tone. But before he could continue, Xion moved around so that she could also steal a taste.
Axel’s words evaporated into stunned silence at their action. He stuttered, trying to come up with something to say. Failing to do so, he finally ducked his own head and licked up some of the sea salt ice cream which had begun to melt down the wooden stick.
“Hey!” Xion yelled teasingly through laughter.
Mischief glimmered in Axel’s eyes. “Thanks for saving me some,” he teased.
Still, when Xion held the ice cream out toward him, he eyed it for a long moment before actually swapping sticks with her. “Saix would kill me if he found out.”
Roxas bumped shoulders with him. “Don’t tell him then.”
Axel cracked a smile. “Guess you’re right. No time but the present and all that jazz.” Saying that, he took a huge decisive bite of ice cream.
Roxas and Xion went back to sharing the vanilla until he held the sea salt back out to them.
“Don’t eat all that vanilla before I get a turn,” Axel teased.
“Wouldn’t dream of it,” Roxas said, handing the vanilla ice cream over.
Watching Axel eat some of the vanilla ice cream, Roxas took another bite of the mint. Maybe it was the coolness of the mint on his tongue or the swirl of combined flavors, but his next bite tasted better than ever. Despite the chill filling his mouth and stemming into his brain, Roxas’ chest and cheeks felt warm.
This was the best way to end the day, he decided.

Summary: He said they were the Chosen People. That even though the world had already died, they were chosen to live on and continue its legacy and start a new one. So, her and the others trained and studied hard, knowing they would rule over their own provinces one day.
Except there was one problem; in all the books that she’d read from the restricted section of the library, they all mentioned worlds. Worlds. Plural not singular.
But surely Xemnas wouldn’t lie, right?

Runaway Wind Chapter Forty Four
Tumblr media
<- Previous Chapter | Current Chapter | Next Chapter ->
“We met back then?” Mickey’s explanation caused Kairi to slowly bring a hand to her forehead. Memories stirred, as murky as they were.
Yet in the midst of her recollection, Mickey was still piecing together the past. “Well, now that I think about it, We met a few weeks before all that when she was in trouble. I saved her with some help from another keyblade wielder.”
“Another keyblade wielder?” Sora scratched the back of his head, wrapping his head around the idea of more wielders in the universe.
Riku however, was a bit more inquisitive as he crossed his arms and asked, “What was their name?”
Tumblr media
Looking from the keyblade in her hands to Mickey, Kairi’s eyes widened in recognition. “Oh! That’s right! You saved me with Aqua from those creatures!”
Mickey couldn’t help but stumble back, even as Ansem looked at the two of them with horror. “Creatures? What kind of creatures?” The idea that such a threat had been hiding under his nose and threatened his daughter struck at his heart.
For Mickey, it was almost worse. It was not so long ago that they’d met, yet with everything that happened in the keyblade graveyard meeting a pure light was almost a blur in comparison. Being zipped around the universe by the gummi shard hardly helped his recollection. But the time for rumination would come later. “Those monsters were something else I was able to take care of. But this makes things worse. Your daughter has a pure light Ansem, the darkness is already going to be drawn to her.” The girl winced at the explanation just as her father slowly clenched his fist. Mickey pointed to the weapon in the child’s hands and continued,  “A keyblade will magnify that light, and stronger heartless will be drawn to her. Not to mention, having a keyblade that young is dangerous.”
Mickey was all too aware of how powerful a weapon a keyblade was. And any weapon in a child’s hands was a disaster waiting to happen. Either from a stray swing, or an unintended spell wreaking havoc.
Slowly, Ansem made his way to a chair in the corner of the room. His daughter moved to his side as he held his head in his hands. “How could this have happened?”
Rubbing his chin, a thought came to Mickey, “Kairi, did you happen to touch Aqua’s keyblade?”
Wincing, Kairi nodded as she fretted, “Should I not have?”
Sighing as the picture came together, Mickey put his hands on his hips. “Aqua’s keyblade probably sensed her light  and bonded with her. And pure light itself is powerful enough that manifesting a keyblade isn’t out of the question for it once a bond like that’s made.”
Tumblr media
“Her name was Aqua, and I think you were able to make contact with her keyblade.” Mickey continued his recollection as the group had their attention squarely on him. ”After connecting with it, the light of your heart was able to manifest that weapon for you to protect yourself.”
Bringing her hands together, Kairi murmured, “I had a keyblade?” No doubt she was feeling a sense of betrayal settle in. If she knew more, she certainly would.
Kairi’s doppelganger tilted their head as they asked, “Do you remember it?” Kairi could only shake her head, ten years hardly helped her memories.
Crossing his arms, Sora asked, “Wait, if she had a keyblade years ago, why didn’t she have it when she came to Destiny Islands?” The boy was ignorant as usual, good with a keyblade but little else.
Mickey cringed, no doubt weighing the risk of telling them what he did. “That’s…”
Tumblr media
Ansem began to pace as he pleaded. “Is there anything we can do? I can’t take it from her.”
Mickey regarded the keyblade in Kairi’s hands as he muttered, “But keyblades are bound to their wielder’s hearts, so they just come back.” The bond a keyblade had with its wielder was useful in keeping them handy. But it ensured that anyone trained or sensitive to such power could always find it.
But…
“I can stop that,” Mickey replied as a certain ritual came to mind. It was a Keyblade ritual that only worked on the compliant or highly restrained. It couldn’t even keep the keyblade from her forever. But for now, it would be enough to give her a respite of normalcy. Assuming she wanted it. Mickey turned to the girl, who was looking from her worrying father to a concerned Mickey with her own share of fear. “Kairi, there’s a way that we can keep you safe, but we need to take your keyblade from you.”
Frowning as she held the keyblade in her hands, Kairi asked, “Will I get it back?”
Mickey nodded as he placed a hand to his chest. “Yes. I promise when you’re older, we’ll give it back and I’ll teach you.” It wasn’t a promise made to ensure compliance, but one made to show another the path the keyblade would lead them on.
Perhaps she could sense that sincerity. Perhaps she was simply satisfied with Mickey’s answer on its face. Either way, she looked at Mickey and asked, “What do we do?”
Calling his own keyblade to his side, Mickey reached out to Kairi’s weapon. “Place the keyblade in my hand.” Slowly, she moved the key to his grip, and slowly he took hold. As he did so, he pointed his keyblade to her and spoke…
“From your hand, I take this Key.”
There was a glow between the two keyblades.
”Through this act of sealing, I shut the path between heart and weapon.”
As the ritual continued, the light from Kairi’s keyblade dimmed away.
“However, so long as you have the makings, and fate brings it to your hands, its wielder you shall be again.“
With a twist of the arm, Mickey turned his key and there was the sound of a turned lock. Kairi’s hands fell away from the keyblade as she took a step back. Ansem watched for a few seconds as Mickey held onto Kairi’s keyblade. When it remained in place the two relaxed, and Mickey grabbed a nearby blanket to wrap up the keyblade. “Ansem, keep this locked away. If she touches it again, it’ll re-bond to her.”
Ansem no doubt had questions, but taking the keyblade he was a bit more at ease with his daughter’s safety. “We shall have to discuss the matter of training her later…”
But that day would never come.
Tumblr media
“That’s my fault.” The king’s conscience won out as he confessed, “ I used a ritual to separate it from you so the heartless wouldn’t find you.” He could hardly meet Kairi’s wide eyes as he tried to explain, “I wanted to give it to you when you were old enough to start training. But—”
“The world fell to darkness soon after, and you couldn’t find me.” Though the details of that fall were lost to everyone here, it would be enough for their understanding. However, Kairi furrowed her brow as she called her weapon to her hand, much to Mickey’s shock. “But I got the keyblade back. A man named DiZ gave it to me when I found my way to Castle Oblivion.”
Mickey rubbed his chin, hope kindling in his eyes. “He could know what happened to your real father!” A lead to the whereabouts of his old friend.
From his hiding place in darkness, DiZ sighed. Mickey would never find his old friend as he was.
“But we never passed him on the way out,” Sora pointed out as he shrugged. There was no reason now for DiZ to show his presence. Not when his initial plans for the group were so undone.
The one member that DiZ wanted to connect with in an attempt to form a front against those that betrayed him had lost his darkness. And so close to such light, it was likely to be at bay. Not to mention he was still cowed by his failings, offering a meager, “We’ll try and find him when we can.”
Crossing her arms as she dismissed her keyblade, Kairi sighed.  “Good, cause I’ve got a lot of questions for him.”
So many questions. Even now, she was still a curious girl, wanting to know more. But DiZ would have to be a mystery she would never solve. She shouldn’t have to face her father having dyed himself in the darkness of revenge.
And so he ventured on, back to where had set up a lab in Twilight Town. He needed more time to think of his next move against Xehanort and his treacherous apprentices.
Tumblr media
Xion tilted her head at Kairi and pondered, “What would you want to ask him?”
Sighing, Kairi found herself at a loss and sat down. “I don’t know where to start. What was home like? What was he like?” Even now, she couldn’t help but want to know about the world she once called home. A dark look came over her face as one particular question came to mind. “If he knew about whatever that imposter was doing.” Somehow, she knew they were behind Hollow Bastion’s fall.
Crossing his arms, Riku winced. “Actually, about the fake Ansem.” Kairi and Sora looked at him as he revealed, “He’s not gone.”
Kairi felt her stomach drop at the news, Sora was little better as he stumbled back with wide eyes, “He survived?! How?!”
Riku put a hand to his chest and grimaced. "He got out of my body and possessed some kind of clone of me.”
Sora began to regain his composure as he processed the explanation. “A clone? That must have been who I met climbing the castle.” Granted, on its own it sounded odd, but Kairi was right next to her own duplicate of Xion. If the people in black wanted to mess with Sora, cloning friends would definitely work.
Still, that left one big problem as Kairi sighed, “So we’ve got to worry about the fake Ansem and these guys in black?”
At Sora’s concern, Riku furrowed his brow as the comment struck a chord. “Actually, I remember something from when he possessed me. Before he fought you at Kingdom Hearts,  Ansem went to meet someone in a black robe.”
Kairi pursed her lips as she mulled the news over. “Like they’re working together, or the imposter’s in charge?”
Putting a hand to his head as he racked his brain, Riku tried to recall. “This is going to be weird, but it feels like both? The guy he met seemed so similar to Ansem.” With a small shrug, his eyes grew downcast. “I’m sorry I can’t remember more.”
Mickey put a hand to Riku’s back. “It’s a good start though.” While it was cold comfort an old enemy was far from dead, at least they knew who he would turn to.  At the sound of footsteps, everyone looked to see Donald and Goofy rejoining the group, Mickey asking, “What’d you find?”
Grumbling, Donald sat down near one of the tents they had set up. “Nothin around but a bunch of green.”
“And no gummiship for us to leave with,” Goofy added as he sat next to his friend.
“Don’t worry, I know someone who can help us out with that.” Calling on his keyblade, Mickey conjured a glowing portal, “I’ll go on ahead, with any luck I should be back tomorrow morning with some good news. For now, just keep an eye out in case Maleficent comes back.” He jumped in, the portal vanishing in a flash.
Rubbing his eyes from the flash of light, Sora asked Donald and Goofy, “Do you know who Mickey might be asking for help?”
Crossing his arms, Donald nodded, “It’s gotta be Master Yen Sid.”
Snapping his fingers, Goofy began to smile. “I reckon he might be able to help us get our ship back!”
A chuckle came to Riku as he turned back to the pieces of his tent. “Well that’s some good news, at least.”
Xion nodded as she joined him and helped straighten out the tarp. “It sounds like you needed some.”
Looking from Riku to Kairi, Sora slowly grinned and replied, “Well, right now, we’re all together. After months apart, that’s pretty good.”
Kairi returned his grin. “Yeah, pretty good.” With everything they’d found out today, she had to admit that having her friends close by was a sorely needed comfort.
