From as early as he could remember, Eden was under the pressure to perform. He was born to high-profile parents in Shanghai - his mother a beloved actress and his father a hotel tycoon - and lived an inevitable life in the spotlight. His mother booked him his first commercial when he was three, his first gig on a film at five, and his first solo project at nine. It was all fun and games at first, but having such a public life got very old very quickly. Having his mother micromanage his career pushed Eden to his limits, which would only be one of the reasons why he’d come to resent her.

Eden’s mother was a powerful siren herself and was considered one of the leaders of the traditionalist colony he grew up in. When she decided that her son would carry on her legacy in the entertainment industry, Eden was meticulously trained to control his abilities. “Never let the public see your true form,” was the rule that his mother made him live by. As difficult as it was for him, Eden learned to suppress his vocal abilities so he wouldn’t let a surge of power slip. It left him coming home from shoots and press conferences absolutely exhausted, but it was what he was told had to be done. After all, Eden never wanted to use his abilities to manipulate innocent people simply for his personal gain.

However, a switch flipped when he reached his 20s. Eden pulled back the curtain on his mother’s career to find out that she had been using her siren abilities all this time, and he would soon be expected to do the same to launch himself into the next level of stardom. He spent weeks contemplating it, even tried it out a few times, but Eden genuinely couldn’t do it. It’s not like he felt morally above his mother or those who did use their abilities for their own gain, but it just wasn’t what he wanted to become. His mother was less than thrilled that he came to this conclusion. Words were exchanged — words that he knows neither of them can ever take back — and Eden ultimately decided that he didn’t want to live this life anymore.

The fact that he was sick of the celebrity life helped ease the pain of leaving home. He hadn’t realized how much of a toll his premeditated fame had taken on his younger years until he was out of that environment. He had money and fame that others would kill for, but he had no friends or passions. Hell, there were days when Eden questioned whether his parents even loved him as much as they did their work. Considering that they hadn’t tried contacting him after the initial week of his absence, the answer seemed pretty clear to him.

It’d be extremely easy for his mom to make use of her abilities and spin this all into a PR stunt. Eden doesn’t know how his parents or the press handled the disappearance of the Lu family’s golden child, nor does he care. It was time for him to live a private life – find somewhere that he could finally be himself for once. He jumped between multiple cities before deciding to go to university, and through his student job was where he first read about Wicked’s Rest. What looked like a quaint, coastal town like the ones he had seen in the American movies was allegedly a hub for the supernatural like himself.

He decided that Wicked’s Rest would be his next stop after graduation because if the rumors were true, then perhaps he could connect more with his siren side that he had always been told to suppress. Eden would be lying to himself if he said all of this change has been easy, but he’d rather live a lonely life as himself than continue being a puppet of his parents.

Character Facts:

Personality: Observant, charming, sincere, distrusting, stubborn, impatient

Eden never imagined that he’d become a librarian. He ended up volunteering there in university because it was a guaranteed quiet space for him to study, then it just sort of stuck. It’s not like he really intended to do much with his accounting degree anyways, so he loves this job where he can be at peace. It also gives him access to as much research as he wants.

His prized possession is his blue Vespa for three reasons: it’s funny, he looks cool, and it’s the closest feeling to flying that he can have while on the ground. Flying was always the one part of being a siren that he genuinely loved, but his mother stopped letting him fly freely after he hit a certain level of fame. 

Eden does get recognized in public every now and then, but most people are pretty respectful when he tells them he’s taking a break from the industry and wants to keep his head down. However, he has had to resort to enthralling a handful of people who tried to make a scene or snoop too far into his personal business.

While birds and cats notoriously don’t get along, Eden has always had a fond spot for cats. He’s not sure he can handle caring for one just yet, but he dreams of adopting a black one (though doing so in Wicked’s Rest may draw some suspicions).

His colony was a traditionalist one, so of course he grew up eating human hearts as a delicacy. It’s not something he’s proud of even though he knows it’s not a craving he can entirely control. He became a vegetarian after leaving home to try and quell some of the desire for it, but slip ups are inevitable every now and then.
