So I did a brief review of when writers from the Warring States and earlier would place the legend of Yi.

Yellow Emperor's Reign: Spring and Autumn Annals of Lu Bu Wei (吕氏春秋) and Mozi's writings. Yi is listed as inventor of the bow and arrow, alongside other inventors from the Yellow Emperor's period. 吕氏 also mentions ten suns appearing before Yao's reign, but as a good omen. Also quoting from Zhuangzi, 吕氏 has Yao saying that “lighting fires while the ten suns are out" is a waste of effort, because their light cannot make the already bright environment brighter, just like Yao remaining on the throne cannot make the realm a better place when the sage Xu You is already going around helping people.

Xia Dynasty: Shang Shu (尚书), Guo Yu (国语), Zuo Zhuan (左传), Tale of King Mu (穆天子传), Qu Yuan's Tian Wen (天问), Confucius, Zhuangzi, students of Mozi. The three history books, Shang Shu, Guo Yu, and Zuo Zhuan all present Yi as an usurper of the Xia Dynasty who was then betrayed and murdered by his advisor Han Zhuo. Shang Shu also rationalizes Yi's shooting of the suns as a campaign against the Xi and He clans, two noble families charged with calculating the calendar, but who had neglected their duties. The Tale of King Mu also calls Yi the Xia Dynasty ruler of Yoqiong. Confucius and Zhuangzi both cite Yi as a powerful archer, but bad ruler. However, Zhuangzi portrays Yi as a man who understood his own faults and could not take pride in his ability to judge character. Mozi's students related a story about Yi receiving a jade pendant from heaven before his final failure and death, as an allegory of pride going before a fall. Qu Yuan has the most complete summary of Yi's myth, presenting him as a Heaven-sent hero who was meant to save the people of Xia, but usurped the king's throne, stole a river god's wife, abducted the woman Xuan Qi, lost Chang-E when she went to the moon, and finally was punished by Heaven and fell to the schemes of those around him. Other texts also mention Yi, but he's still implied to be a Xia Dynasty figure because there are pre-late Warring States texts setting him in any other time. Guizang, one of the earliest texts to contain Chinese myths, states that Yi shot down the suns and Chang-E stole the elixir of immortality and went to moon. Shan Hai JIng mentions Yi received a bow from the sky god Di Jun to slay monsters. Mencius mentioned Yi being murdered by his jealous student Feng Meng, but stated Yi bore some responsibility for the crime (neglecting mortal education). In contrast, Guan Zhong and Han Fei regarded Yi as a principled man dedicated to his craft, who understood the philosophy and not just the act of shooting an arrow, and who was the protective figure. Yi is often listed alongside his disciple Feng Meng as the example of a good archer.

Yao's Reign: Huainanzi (淮南子) and its oral sources. Yi shooting the suns is set during Yao's reign. Xunzi also mentions Yi as a title that can be given to any good archer. However, he also makes references to Yi and Feng Meng as specific individuals, in which case he's likely referring to Yi from the Xia Dynasty. ("Yi and Feng Meng cannot aim accurately with crooked bows"; "Yi's methods are not lost, but Yi is no longer in this world.") Meanwhile Han Fei makes vague comparisons between Yao and Yi as enforcers of the law, but never specifically calls them contemporary.

Later Han Dynasty commentaries would make the sun-shooting Yi from Yao's era a different individual than the Xia Dynasty Yi, but the myth of a single Yi who both shot the suns (or the individuals responsible for tracking the sun's movements through the year) and usurped the Xia throne came first and was the most popular before the Qin Dynasty.

I only have one small correction: Qu Yuan's Tianwen does not make any connection between Chang'e and Yi.

There are lines about the death and revival of the moon, and the animal in it (夜光何德,死则又育?厥利维何,而顾菟在腹?), as well as the lines asking about why a woman in fine white robes is decorating herself in jewelry, followed by a question about where she gets the "fine pills" and why she cannot hide/keep them. (白蜺婴茀,胡为此堂?安得夫良药,不能固臧?)

It is commonly interpreted as referring to the Chang'e legends, but at least in the poem, it's not connected to the Yi-related lines.

Also, though the version of Guizang quoted in the ask mentions both Yi and Chang'e next to each other, the Qin era bamboo slips excavated from Wangjia Tai only mentions Chang'e stealing the pill of immortality and flying to the moon.

From what I know, though both the Yi and Chang'e mythology were floating around in the late Warring States-Qin era, they weren't yet connected to each other.

The earliest passage that featured the "Yi gets immortality pills from QMoW, Chang'e steals it and fly to the moon" plot is from Huainan Zi , and in the eastern Han annotation of the passage, they became husband and wife.

Top 10 Best Actors In BL

I'm going to judge ONLY on their BL, so in the case of certain Japanese actors, for example, they may be great with a huge back catalog, but they may not have been served well by the role/script they were given for their BL.

Sam Lin (We Best Love) - Sam is, hands down, my favorite actor ever to do BL. I talk about why here. 

Nanon Korapat (Bad Buddy) - I think objectively, from a pure technique standpoint, Nanon may be one of the best actors we’ve ever gotten. I talk about what I mean by that here. 

Saint Suppapong (Love By Chance, Why R U?) - I talk about why I love his acting style so much (and why I think it’s pretty unique) here.

PP Krit (I Told Sunset About You) - I’ve never finished this show, still RECOGNIZE this boy’s extreme talent, because that’s part of what was too much for me. 

Suzuki Jin (Given, My Love Mix-up) - did you know the lead seme in Given was played by THE SAME actor as Aoki’s bestie in Kieta Hatsukoi? Yeah, that’s how good he is. 

Fluke Natouch (Until We Meet Again, Close Friend) - honestly boy can cry on dime, that’s really hard to do, and he’s really good at it, also he plays a deranged murderer pretty well too. DUALITY! 

Ohm Pawat (Bad Buddy, He’s Coming To Me, Make it Right, Dew the movie) - I talk about his acting style here. 

Gun Atthaphan (Not Me, Theory of Love, Puppy Honey) - and I talk about him here. 

Gong Jun (Word of Honor, Advance Bravely) - maybe not the best actor on this list (not sure about his range as he always seems to play the same kind of cheeky character). I just find his style very appealing and I’m delighted by the fact that he successfully executed both uke and seme roles. (To be fair Tay Tawan has done this too.) But honestly, how does he seem so baby as Xia Yao when the boy is like 6ft+? 

Fiat Pattadon (My Gear and Your Gown, SOTUS S, Triage) - he’s never anchored a BL, but he has been in quite a few of them, and he is a completely different person no matter what he’s in. I like his changeable nature.

still thinking about the last chapter i read, for reasons~~ (please can i have other daydreams, this is honestly problematic)

so, i’m really glad that, at least judging from how it felt to me, the cringe triple date ended way faster than it did in the drama. it MIGHT be connected to the fact that in the drama it just ends with more nonsense, while in the novel it abruptly ends with another aggressive kinky sex scene. which i’m not complaining about at all, especially in this case. and like, it wasn’t even that bad of a scene, you know? i mean all scenes in advance bravely aren’t really good, but like, it wasn’t terrible? to my tastes, at least. KINDA hot actually. actually, any sex scene in this novel that doesn’t use “white turnip” as an euphemism for xia yao’s dick is a win in my book. but it had to be something, right? too fucking perfect to be true

so i’m reading this, right, kinda hot scene, half asleep, pretty immersed, it’s all good, and then

WHY what is this jkladsjsa i literally woke up and started laughing, dear author whyyyyyyyyyyy

there are like three scenes in the entire novel when it’s mentioned that xia yao is a policeman and this IS ONE OF THEM WHY

Repaying Kindness

Wei Wuxian once said to Wen Zhuliu :

"What a joke! Why is it that the debt you owe has to be repaid at the expense of others!"

Xia Que was a Sparrow spirit, she was once saved by a little boy from dying. In order to complete her tribulation, she had to repay her causal and effect to the boy's reincarnation, Changlin. Unfortunately, she lacks the ability to judge people. The boy used her kind intention to harm another girl, Wu Bingyan. Wu Bingyan was schemed to ruin, her father was killed, her chastity and future were destroyed. Wu Bingyan who later knew everything was blackened and fell on the path of revenge, ruining the world, harming others.

It is similar to how :

Lan Xichen was once saved by Meng Yao. In order to repay the kindness, he always appreciate and try not to be prejudice to Jin Guangyao, giving him all his trust including his sect's jade order. Unfortunately, the person didn't live up to his sincerity and used it to harm the Nie and others instead. Later on Nie Huaisang was blackened and fell to the path of revenge, disregarding others safety for the sake of avenging his grievance.

Both cases are originated from good intention to repay kindness.

Both cases ended up in countless tragedies due to the lack of good judgment from the person who wanted to repay kindness.

Wu Bingyan and Nie Huaisang harm the world but they were also victims who were driven to the abyss of revenge.

The real perpetrators actually are Changlin and Jin Guangyao, those who deceived others feelings and take advantage of their trust and sincerity.

But still, why should others be harmed in the way of you repaying your debt of gratitude?

Xie Que and Lan Xichen could not be blamed but also can not shirk away from responsibility. It is because they were kind, but their kindness was also stained by subconscious bias, closing one eye and unable to see the bigger picture.

okay not gonna lie i didnt cry as much as i thought i would. yes it was sad but i kinda already knew that jin fan and zhen nan werent gonna make it so i was more just FRUSTRATED AND ANGRY watching the whole thing and seeing them get random bits of screentime (YOURE TOO LATE IQIYI) but i heard rumors and then when i saw those goodbye videos they uploaded on weibo today....... my heart sank like oh goodness its real...... i cant live in denial forever.... I STILL CANT BELIEVE ZHEN NAN WAS FREAKING 61 AND JIN FAN WAS FREAKING UNDERAPPRECIATED WTFFFFF everyone on jin fan’s team im sure was rooting for him bc they knew how he was so vital to their success --- he literally taught them all the choreo wtf chen youwei would be nothing without jin fan..... ughhhh alsdkjalsdkjlaks this is so frustrating im so sad for him....... but now i just really wish jin fan and zhen nan do some really cool stuff and stay active while they wait for the others. i think its likely (sadly) that zhan yu will get eliminated the next round, (but im honestly surprised and grateful that the special teachers recognized his talent! he realllyy killed that ‘retreat’ stage even tho zhenning is getting all the attention) and lin mo is liked by iqiyi (i think) but i dont think he has enough potential to actually make it into the top 9... or maybe its just my wishful thinking bc i hope mr.tyger can go on promoting without jia yi, but without jia yi AND lin mo, itd get pretty rough for them, so if at least lin mo stays behind with mr. tyger, i think they could potentially still do somewhat well in the meantime while jia yi goes off to debut with the top 9 and they wait for him to come back

and now for my random predictions: 

right now its rather fixed that wenhan, guan yue, and jia yi will make it. I think youwei, huaiwei, mingming, chunyang, wang jiayi are all likely, which means most of them will make it (but probably not all), and then xixi.... honestly i feel like xixi wont make it (BUT I REALLY LIKE XIXI) but i think iqiyi doesnt like him enough to give him enough screentime for him to make it (at least at this current rate....) also please note that YAO MINGMING WAS THE ONLY ONE FROM THE TOP 9 who did NOT get to go on that trip to leave dachang coughiqiyihatesmingming but luckily/hopefully mingming is popular enough to get votes anyway, LIKE MINE BC I VOTE FOR MINGMING). other than the current top 9, I think its likely either shi zhan or li zhenning or deng chaoyuan will make it. zhenning is the lowest of the three right now, but iqiyi likes him and hes gotten the approval of all the judges AND he was able to shoot up a ridiculous amount from pretty much just ONE DAY of voting (maybe a week at max, counting from the time they released the solo cams), and these votes have been tallying for the past month. so can you imagine how much more he’ll shoot up next time? he has a ton of potential to make it. shi zhan is already up there but iqiyi really likes him too bc of how hilarious he is, and jolin’s approved his smile so i can see him getting more and more screentime too. yao chi i think is also likely, bc he won 1st place visuals hahah that gets him attention from the public but also the staff, so i think theyll give him more and more screentime too. plus he has a touching backstory and mc jin has approved of him too. i think yao chi is someone who they’ve depicted as really humble and works really hard, and they like his smile. (who doesnt hahaha) but ofc there’s probably gonna be a lot of toss up in the rankings yet to come. from ip1 we learned that 70% of the kids were fixed from the start hahaha but 2-3 of them can come from behind, so who knows. iqiyi seems to really like cheche and wangzhe (how did wangzhe and wu chengze get to go on the trip to leave dachang but not mingming?? i mean i really like chengze tbh but i was just so surprised he was there! hahaha it seems so random bc hes #22?? i mean good for him but still)

anyway im all in all kinda all tired from watching a stressful 3 hrs lol but tbh i feel like they didnt show as much of the fun hotpot time as id hoped... and what about all the other rankings besides #1 visual? i dont really understand why they took a few random kids (who, no surprise, all dont get eliminated this ep) out of dachang for that trip.... i like a lot of those kids honestly, but id rather have seen more of the big group bonding / singing over hotpot (giving some of the kids who get eliminated some last screentime before they leave) or at least like find out who ranked in #1 boyfriend or something like that hahaha.... oh well..... now its time for me to go wallow in some mr tyger content so i can mourn the loss of our two children....

Records of Murong De, Part 1

[From JS127. I hope to the tribulations of the late 4th century might also be of interest to someone.]

Murong De, courtesy name Xuanming, was the youngest son of Huang. His mother Ms. Gongsun dreamt the sun entered within her navel. She slept at day and begot De. Before [?] he was capped, he was 8 chi 2 cun tall, his bearing and countenance was manly and extraordinary, on his forehead his “sun horn” and “half moon” were heavily ornamented [?]. He had a wide view of the group of books, was by nature pure and cautious and had much talent and ability.

At Murong Jun's usurping the establishment, he was enfeoffed Duke of Liang, he was successively Inspector of You province and General of Guards of the Left. When Wei inherited the rank, he was changed to King of Fanyang, and a little later moved to Intendant of Wei, concurrently Cavalier in Regular Attendance.

Soon after Fu Jian's general Fu Shuang occupied Shan to thereby rebel. Jian's general Fu Liu rose with troops [in] Fuhan, wanting to obey him. De recommended Wei to take advantage of the feud to punish Jian, explaining his purpose fervently. Those who understood spoke of him having far-reaching schemes. Wei after all was not able to employ it.

De's elder brother Chui was considerably heroic, because of that he discussed together with him the great plans of army and state, saying surely the urgent was arriving [?]. Chui spoke to him, saying:

You are vessel for understanding the long advance, not again Wu hill cover [?].

At the labour of Fangtou, De as General who Conquers the South together with Chui struck and defeated the host of Jin. When Chui fled to Fu Jian, De was incriminated and removed from his post. When Wei's defeat came across after that, he was moved to Chang'an. Fu Jian used him as Grand Warden of Zhangye. After several years, he was dismissed and returned.

When Jian used troops to approach the Jiang, he designated De as General who Arouses Power. At Jian's defeat, Jian and Lady Zhang lost each other. Murong Wei wanted to protect and deliver her. De with a severe countenance spoke to Wei, saying:

Formerly when Zhuang of Chu wiped out Chen, he accepted the remonstrance of Wuchen and abandoned Beauty Xia. This is not a person of favour, [but] a mistress of confusion and chaos. Military affairs are not near a woman's receptacle. The defeated host of Qin must come form this. [We] ought to cover our eyes and pass by, how can you endure wanting to guard her!

Wei did not follow, De hurried his horse and left him. He turned back to lodge at Xingyang, and talked to Wei, saying:

Formerly Guojian took refugee in Kuaiji, and in the end seized the state of Wu. A sagely person judges the times and acts, a hundred recommendations a hundred times successful. Heaven wants to repent the calamity and therefore sent the host of Qin to destruction and defeat. We ought to ride its ill-treatment to thereby restore the altars of soil and grain.

Wei did not accept. He therefore followed Chui and went to Ye.

When Chui called himself King of Yan, he used De as Great General of Chariots and Cavalry, again enfeoffed as King of Fanyang, residing within the headquarters at Ye, advising and passing judgement on government affairs. Some time after, he moved to Minister over the Masses. At the time Murong Yong occupied Changzi, and had a multitude of 100 000. Chui debated punishing him. The crowd of subjects all considered it as questionable. De advanced and said:

Formerly the three ancestors amassed virtue, the bequeathed song existed and that was all [?]. In the past Your Majesty was a flying dragon, [you] did not plan for it, yet it occurred. Even though employing the sagely and martial, likewise hemming old fondness, the gentlemen of Yan and Zhao are happy to be subjects of Yan. Now Yong has already established a bogus title, inciting to action the Hua and Rong., delivering orders to the upright crowd and the lateral followers [?], chasing the deer without rest. We ought to first eliminate him, thereby as one the multitudes will listen.

Formerly Guangwu hurried to the difficulties of Su Mao, and did not look back at the feebleness of the hundred officials. How is this not humane? The moment is urgent assuredly. The rules of warfare is that what can not be avoided, then make use of it. Your Majesty, how can [you] tolerate not doing it!

Chui laughed and spoke to his faction, saying:

The Minister over the Masses's opinion and mine are the same. When two people are of similar hearts, their advantage surpasses gold. My plan is decided.

He thereupon followed it. When Chui approached the end, he counselled his son Bao to use the city of Ye to commission De.

The Wei general Tuoba Zhang attacked Ye. De dispatched the King of Nan'an, Murong Qing, and others to strike at night, defeating him. The host of Wei withdrew to lodge at Xincheng. Qing and others requested to strike them. The Attendant Officer Han Yanzhuo, advanced and said:

The ancients first determined victory in the temple hall, and afterwards attacked and fought. Now the reasons why Wei can not strike are four. The reasons why Yan ought not act are three.

Wei's suspended army has entered from far away, their edge is fighting in the open field, the first reason they can not strike.

From far away to enter near the imperial domain, pausing the troops dead in the ground, the second reason they can not strike.

The vanguard is already defeated, the rear column just strengthen, the third reason they can not strike.

The other are a multitude while we are alone [?], the fourth reason they can not strike.

For the official army to itself fight in its territory, the first reason we ought not act.

If we act but do not win, the hearts of the multitudes will be difficult to strengthen, the second reason we ought not to act.

The outer parts of the city are not yet repaired, if the enemy come, we are not prepared, the third reason we ought not to act.

All the troops' families are fearful, and do not go to the deep ditches or high ramparts, thereby fleeing waiting service [?].

Another thousand villages offer provisions, the countryside is not being plundered. If after a while the Three Armies disperse the property, if attacked then the multitudes travelling many will be killed, the host wanes and takes advantage of the living [?], thoroughly then planning for it, it can be considered a victory.

De said:

The speech of Attendant Officer Han is a good and level plan.

And so he summoned Qing to return with the host. Wei again dispatched the Duke of Liaoxi, Helai Lu to lead cavalry and together with Zhang besiege Wei. De dispatched his Army Advisor Liu Zao to request help from Yao Xing, furthermore participating in the questioning of his mother's elder brother [?]. Yet the host of Xing did not arrive, the multitudes were greatly afraid. De hence personally banqueted the combat soldiers, greatly increasing their comfort and acceptance. People felt his kindness, all were happy to be fighting to the death.

It happened that Zhang and Lu on the inside were shrewdly disputing with each other, each pulling out the army for a secret escape. Zhang's Marshal Ding Jian led the multitudes to come and surrender, and spoke of Zhang's host's decline, and they could consider defeating it. De dispatched the generals to pursue and rout Zhang's army, the people's hearts began to strengthen.

At the time the host of Wei entered Zhongshan. Murong Bao set out and fled to Ji and Murong Xiang also usurped the title. It happened that Liu Zao arrived from Yao Xing. Xing's Prefect Grand Clerk, Gao Lu, dispatched his sister son Wang Jinghui to follow Zao and give a jade signet with a single knot, and also with charts to understand secret writings, saying:

Having Virtue [de] is prosperity, lacking Virtue is destruction.  [If] De accepts Heaven's instructions, the weak will yet again be strong.

There was also song which said:

In great wind the tumble-weed suddenly scatters with the dust and dirt, the soldiers of eight wells and three knives rise and come, within the Four Seas the cauldrons boils and Zhongshan is ruined, however there is a virtuous [de] man who occupies the Three Towers.

And so De's crowd of subjects discussed, that since Murong Xiang had usurped the title in Zhongshan, the host of Wei was flourishing in Ji province, and that nothing was clear about Bao being alive or dead, for these reasons recommended De to take the honoured title. De did not follow. It happened that Murong Da fled from Longcheng to Ye, and told of Bao still being alive. The crowd's discussions therefore stopped. Step by step, Bao used De as Imperial Chancellor, acting Shepherd of Ji province, inheriting authority over the Southern Xia.

De's elder brother's son Lin fled from Yitai to Ye, and because of that talked to De, saying:

Zhongshan is already lost, Wei will surely exploit the victory to attack Ye. Though provisions are stored up and habitually accumulated, the city is big and difficult to strengthen. Moreover the people's feelings are dejected and stirred, it is not possible to consider fighting.

While the Wei army has not yet arrived, embrace the multitudes and cross south; go to the King of Luyang, He; occupy Huatai, assemble troops and accumulate grain; wait for a crack then act. [This is] the best of plans. Though Wei uproots Zhongshan, the tendency will not be halted for a long time, they will not go beyond driving away and plundering and then turn back.

People do not like moving, reasoning themselves to make changes [?]. Afterwards raise power to thereby assist them. Wei then inside and outside receives the enemy. Make the yearning for the soldiers of old being relied and depended on [?]. Broadly begin with kindness and trust. Summon and assemble the numerous lost. [Then we] can as one lift up and defeat them.

Before this, Murong He likewise recommended De to move south. Hence he allowed it.

In the 2nd Year of Long'an [398 AD], he therefore led 40 000 households and 27 000 chariots, and from Ye was about to move to Huatai. They came across a wind, and the ships sunk. The army of Wei was on the brink of arriving. The multitudes were afraid, their opinion and desire was to withdraw and defend Liyang. That evening the flow ran dry and froze together. At night they crossed over the host. When at dawn the host of Wei arrived, the ice fell apart, as if there was a god doing it. Thereupon they changed the Liyang ford to be the Heavenly Bridge ford.

When they arrived at Huatai, a luminous star was seen tailing the Winnowing Basket. From the Zhang river they obtained a white jade, in shape similar to a signet. And so De relied on Yan's founding in former affairs [?], called it the Inaugural Year, with a great amnesty within his region exceeding death [?] and below, and set up the hundred officials.

He used Murong Lin as Minister of Works and Acting Prefect of the Masters of Writing; Murong Fa as General of the Army of the Centre, Muyu Ba as Supervisor of the Left of the Masters of Writing; Ding Tong as Supervisor of the Right of the Masters of Writing; from the remainder fiefs and conferrals each proportionally.

Earlier, in Hejian there was a sighting of a unicorn [lin], Murong Lin used it as auspicious for himself. Reaching this, his secret plan was to make chaos. The affair was discovered and he was bestowed death.

That summer, Wei's general Helai Lu led the multitudes to adhere to him.

Arriving at this, Murong Bao fled south from Longcheng to arrive at Liyang. He dispatched his Prefect of the Yellow Gates of the Centre, Zhao Si, to summon Murong Zhong to come and welcome him. Zhong originally headed the discussion on recommending De to call himself by the honoured title. He heard but detested him [Bao?]. He apprehended Si and delivered [him] to prison, and swiftly sent to make plain the circumstances. De spoke to his subordinates, saying:

You Sirs earlier used the great plan for the altars of soil and grain, to recommend me administer the government. I likewise since the Inherited Emperor had fled and perished, and men and spirits broadly master [?], because of that authority obeyed the crowd's opinion, and accordingly fastened the multitudes' expectations.

Now Heaven has just repented the calamity, the Inheritor Emperor has managed to return. I want to prepare a carriage offer welcome, apologize the crime in acting with the palace, and afterwards with the corner of a kerchief [return] to private rank. Sirs, what do you think about that?

His Attendant Gentleman of the Yellow Gates, Zhang Hua, advanced and said:

As for this generation of contention and coercion, there is no heroes and talent is not aroused. To follow in a time of the lateral, how can a weak man be able to cross!

Your Majesty, suppose [you] follow the example of a common woman's benevolence, giving up the profession of Heaven's conferral, power and authority [you] alone discard, then your own head will not be safe. How can withdrawing and yielding to him be done?

De said:

I considered the ancients disobeying defeat and obeying safety, this Way is not sufficient, by means of the middle road to walk back and forth [?]. [I am] dissatisfied and not yet decided, that is all.

Muyu Hu requested to hurry and inquire into Bao, and pretend support. De with flowing tears then dispatched him. He therefore led several hundred strong soldiers, to follow Si and go north, in that way planning to kill Bao.

Earlier, after Bao had dispatched Si, he understood De was administering the throne. He became afraid and fled north. When Hu arrived, he was not to be seen. [Hu] apprehended Si and returned. De, since Si was well-versed and practised in the canons of former times, wanted to appoint him. Si said:

Formerly when Guan Yu saw and esteemed Excellency Cao, he similarly did not forget the kindness of the Former Ruler. Si, although only a punished remnant [?] and lowly servant, shouldered the state's favour and providence. If dogs and horses have hearts, then how much more do people! [I] request to turn back and go to the Sovereign, thereby clarifying the minor and modest [?].

De firmly detained him. Si angrily said:

When the house of Zhou withered and declined, Jin and Zheng on each side assisted. When Han had the difficulties of the Seven States, they truly relied on the King of Liang.

Your Highness personally is just a junior uncle, [your] rank just ascended the platform, [you] are not able to lead first the group of princes to thereby restore the royal house, but in the upsetting of the favoured foundation you behave as in the affairs of Lun of Zhao.

Si, although not extending to weep together for the model of Qin [?], similarly longs to be the guest of the Lord and not to live in the times of [Wang] Mang.

De was angry and beheaded him.

Jin's Grand Warden of Nanyang, Lüqiu Xian and General who Soothes the Boreal, Deng Qifang, led a multitude of 20 000 to come and attack, the host lodging at Guancheng. De dispatched his [General] of the Army of the Centre, Murong Fa, the [General who] Consoles the Army, Murong He, and others to resist them. The royal host achieved defeat. De was angry that Fa did not pursue to the end the host of Jin, and beheaded his Marshal who Consoles the Army, Jin Gui.

Earlier, when Fu Deng had already been wiped out by Yao Xing, Deng's younger brother Guang led his section groups to surrender to De, and was designated General of the Best of the Army, and settled in Qihuo [“Beg to Live”] Fort. It happened that the Dazzling Confuser protected the Eastern Well. Some said Qin must again be flourishing. Guang therefore titled himself King of Qin, and defeated De's General Murong Zhong.

At the time De began to govern from Huatai, he was located in between Jin and Wei, his lands not ten cities, his multitudes not exceeding several tens of thousands. When Zhong lost the host, of the followers of rebellious inclination many reverted to Guang [?]. De therefore detained Murong He to defend Huatai, and personally led the multitudes to punish Guang, beheading him.

Earlier, when Bao was at Liyang, He's Senior Clerk, Li Bian, recommended He to admit him. He did not follow. Bian feared the plan would leak, and therefore pulled on the Jin army to arrive at Guancheng, hoping for De to personally lead the host, so he could make chaos in the rear. When it happened that De did not set out, he more and more was not calm for himself.

When De was on this journey, Bian again recommended He to rebel. He did not follow. Bian was angry, and killed He, using Huatai to surrender to Wei. At time the generals and soldier's families were known to be inside the city. De wanted to attack it. Han Fan talked to De, saying:

The host of Wei has already entered the city, occupying the state's complete wealth, the tendency of a travelling ruler. Flipping over and restoring the unusual, the people's feelings are already dangerous. It is not possible to consider battle. We ought to first occupy a single region, as the foundation of Guanzhong, and afterwards cultivating power plan for it. [This is] the best of plans.

De therefore desisted. De's General of the Guards of the Right, Murong Yun, beheaded Li Bian, and led the generals and soldiers' families, amassing more than 20 000 people, and then set out. The Three Armies celebrated and were happy. De planned with the multitudes, saying:

Though Fu Guang is pacified, the [General who] Consoles the Army lost the base. [If we] advance there is a stubborn foe, [if we] withdraw there is nothing supporting us. Which plan do we want to follow?

Zhang Hua advanced to say:

Pengcheng hinders and straddles the mountains and streams and is the old capital of Chu. The land is strategic and the people many. We can attack and occupy it, and use it as a foundation.

Murong Zhong, Muyu Hu, Feng Cheng, Han Yanzhuo and others firmly recommended attacking Huatai. Pan Cong said:

Huatai has four passages and eight openings, it is not the residence of emperors and kings. Moreover to the north it communicates with great Wei, to the west it connects to stubborn Qin. With these two states, it is not yet possible sit on a high pillow and wait for them.

The lands of Pengcheng are extensive and the people scarce, the land is flat without strategic points. As the returning headquarter of Jin, they will surely resist the royal host. It is also close and near the Jiang and Huai, the water way passing through a dug out, autumn and summer there is rain and flood, for a thousand li it becomes a lake. Moreover in naval battle the state is lacking while Wu is experienced. To now overcome it, is not a plan for a long calm.

In Qing and Qi there is fertile soil, they call it Eastern Qin. The land is 2 000 square, the households more than 100 000. With the strength of four passes and burdened with the abundance of the sea, it can be said to be a state for employing the martial. The flowering heroes of the Three Qi, gathering aspirations to thereby receive. How can we not consider obtaining for Enlightened Master to thereby set up the merits of chi and cun! [?]

Guanggu was the encampment of Cao Yi, its mountains and streams are obstructing and steep. It is suitable to be the capital of emperors and kings.

We ought to dispatch clever gentlemen to hurry and explain to the van, the great troops will continue and advance in the rear. Pilü Hun formerly burdened the state's mercy, surely he will be turning over towards reform. In the case his defenders are bewitched and do not obey, when the Great Army approaches, they will crumble by themselves. After we have occupied it, we shut the passes and raise the keen, wait for a crack and then act. This is likewise the Guanzhong and Henei of the Two Han.

De was still preparing and had not yet decided. There was a Śrmaṇa gentleman who was fair and prudent,and knew to divine the sky. De because of that asked him about it being favourable. The gentleman said:

[I have?] respectfully looked at the three divining slips. The opinion of Master of Writing Pan can be said to be a technique of a flourishing nation.

Now the year as begun, the Long Star rises up in the Strider and Harvester, and thereupon sweeps away the false and dangerous. Yet the false and dangerous, is the divided wilderness [?] of Qi, the image of removing the old and distributing the new.

We ought to first settle old Lu, patrol and console Langye, wait for the autumn winds and caution moderation, and afterwards go north to surround and overlook Qi. [This is] the Way of Heaven.

De was greatly pleased, pulled out the army and went south. The various counties in the northern section of Yan province heard and surrendered. He set up wardens and stewards to thereby console. There were inquires into the aged. The army did not secretly plunder. The hundred families were calmed by it, cattle and wine lined [?] the roads.

萧景睿的身世 - Jingrui’s Birth (Ver. 3)

Twenty four years ago, the Marquis Ning, Xie Yu had left his pregnant wife, Princess Li Yang - sister of the current emperor, to take part in the military campaign launched against Western Xia. In the same year, Master Zhuo Ding Feng of Tian Quan Villa entrusted the care of his wife, who was then six months pregnant, to a friend in Jin Ling. He had had to leave his villa to honour his vow in a duel against the leader of a demonic sect at the country’s border with Miao.

Just as one can never predict the weather, disaster struck when it was least expected: an epidemic of a disease the people called ‘locked throat’ broke out in Jin Ling. Officials of high rank, their families and all the nobles were evacuated. Some chose to settle temporarily in the quiet temples on mountains located near the capital.

It so happened that the mistresses of the Xie and Zhuo families were respectively staying in the East and West courtyards of the same temple.

Unused to such isolation, the two ladies naturally began to interact. Finding themselves to be of similar temperament and disposition, each often sought the company of the other. On one fateful day, the two had been having a conversation over a game of chess when suddenly, their labour contractions began.

At the time, lightning was flashing, thunder booming, wind howling and rain was falling hard and fast. The servants who had accompanied their mistresses were on tenterhooks and busied about late into the night. It was chaos until the cries of two babies rang out, almost at the same time.

Amidst the atmosphere of happiness and delight, the midwives brought the two precious babes to a large wooden tub prepared specially for them to be washed.

And then it happened.

In the old temple, an arborvitae tree was struck by lightning. Its largest branch broke with a terrible cracking noise, falling onto the roof of the room that Mistress Xie and Mistress Zhuo were in. A weak beam in the ceiling which could not withstand the additional weight splintered, plunging into the room below in a shower of tiles. The candles were extinguished by the gush of wind and accompanying pelting rain through the damaged roof. Shrill screams were heard even over the storm.

Mistress Xie and Mistress Zhuo were rescued by their guards and servant girls; their midwives hurriedly lifting the baby boys from the bathtub and stumbling out of the room that had been plunged suddenly into darkness.

Fortunately, the accident was merely frightening and had not resulted in any casualties. New accommodations were arranged for the mistresses, and everyone eventually settled down with a sigh of relief. It was then that a big problem was discovered.

The two baby boys were naked when they were brought out of the pitch black room. Both were equally wrinkled, cried equally loudly, were of equal weight and did not have any distinguishing feature. Who was the son of Mistress Xie, who was the son of Mistress Zhuo?

The problem was exacerbated by the death of one of the boys the next day.

Because Mistress Xie was a princess, the sister of the reigning emperor, this incident had to be brought to his attention. The two families were then commanded to enter the palace with the remaining baby for a test of blood [5] to be carried out by an imperial doctor.

Unexpectedly, the baby’s blood coagulated with that of the members of both families. There was not even any difference in the degree of clotting observed in the water.

The Emperor could tell with one look at the two sets of parents, that judging by physical appearance would be difficult: Xie Yu and Zhuo Ding Feng were both tall men, with strong bodies and distinct - but not distinctive – facial features, their wives were beautiful with almond shaped eyes, and both were blessed with an elegant and graceful bearing. Though they could certainly not be said to look alike, but upon closer examination, nothing could be found to set them apart.

Even if they waited for the child to grow a little older, it would still be all but impossible to be sure of his parentage based on appearance alone.

The Emperor stared at the babe in his arms for a long time, and although he could not come to a decision, he found himself growing fond of it.

This helped to give him the idea for a compromise.

“Since there is no infallible method for ascertaining this child’s identity, giving him the surname of either Xie or Zhuo would be inappropriate. We [6] shall bestow the Imperial Surname upon him, and he will be named according to the convention for princes,” here he paused to think for a moment.

“Let’s call him Jing… Jing Rui. Well, he was born on Rui Mountain after all! Jing Rui can stay with the Xie family for one year, then spend the next with the Zhuo family, and ought to be considered the son of both families. What do you all think of this?”

The Emperor had spoken. Knowing that there was no better solution available, the four could only agree.

And just like that, Xiao Jing Rui came into possession of his double identity: the eldest son of the Xie family’s Marquis Ning, and the second young master of the Zhuo family of Tian Quan Villa. Through him, these two families that originally had nothing to do with each other gradually grew closer, their relationship approaching that of blood relatives.

Two years prior, the eldest son of the Zhuo family, Zhuo Qing Yao took the eldest daughter of the Xie family, Xie Qi, as his wife. This cementing of their ties by marriage brought harmony such that Xie and Zhuo seemed to become one big family.

二十四年前，宁国侯谢玉离开他怀孕的妻子——当朝皇妹莅阳长公主出征西夏，同年，江湖世家天泉山庄的庄主卓鼎风也将身怀六甲的爱妻送到金陵委托朋友照顾，自己前往苗疆约战魔教高手。谁知天有不测风云，一次被民间俗称为“锁喉”的疫情突然暴发，为躲避瘟疫，城内的达官贵人们纷纷离开，到附近的清静山庙避灾，而谢卓两家夫人巧之又巧地住到了同一座庙里的东西两院。

  由于山中寂寞，两位夫人有了交往，彼此都觉得性情相投，常在一处起坐。这天，两人正聚在一起聊天弈棋，突然同时阵痛起来。其时外面正是电闪雷鸣、风雨大作，随行的仆从们惶惶然地忙乱到深夜，终于有婴儿的啼哭声响起，两个男孩几乎是先后脚一起落草。

  在一片喜笑颜开中，产婆们捧着这金尊玉贵的两个小公子到外间准备好的一个大木桶里给婴儿浴身。

  就在此时，意外发生了。

  古庙院中一株空心柏被雷电击中，一段粗枝轰然断裂，砸在产房屋顶上，瞬那间瓦碎梁歪，窗棂也被震落，狂风猛卷而入，屋内烛火俱灭，一片尖叫声。侍卫和婢女们慌���张张抢出两位夫人，被吓得向后跌坐在地上的产婆们也手忙脚乱地摸黑从木桶里捞出婴孩，逃了出去。

  好在有惊无险，无人受伤，重新择房安顿好了产妇之后，众人刚松了一口气，就突然发现了一个大问题。

  摸黑被抱出的两个男婴，赤裸裸身无牵挂，一般样皱皱巴巴，一般样张着嘴大哭，重量相仿，眉目相似，哪个是谢夫人生的，哪个又是卓夫人生的？

  到了第二天，问题更加沉重，因为其中的一个男婴死了。

  谢夫人既是当朝长公主，这件事就不可避免地惊动到了当今天子。皇帝下旨命两家带着婴孩入宫，派御医滴血认亲，谁知婴儿的血居然跟谁的都相融，根本没有区别，再一看两对父母的模样，皇帝知道事情难办了。

  谢玉与卓鼎风都是长身玉立，五官明晰，两位夫人都是柳眉杏眼，秀丽文雅；虽说不算很象，但细察其五官，轮廓特征竟然差不多。

  即使等孩子长大，只怕也难单凭长相，就判定他到底是谁家之子。

  皇帝抱着婴儿看了半天，虽无决断，但因心中十分喜爱，便想出了一个折中之计：“既然无法确认这孩子究竟是何人之子，那他姓谢姓卓都不合适，朕就赐国姓于他，按皇子辈取名，叫景……景睿好了，他生在睿山之上嘛。一年住在谢家，下一年就住在卓家，算是两姓之子，如何？”

  皇帝作了主，何况也没有更好的办法，大家也只能同意。

  就这样，萧景睿便有了双重身份，即是宁国侯谢家的大公子，也是天泉山庄卓氏门中的二少爷。而素无往来的谢卓两家也由此变得有如亲族一般，关系紧密。两年前，卓家长子卓青遥娶了谢府大小姐谢绮为妻，两家更是亲上加亲，和睦得有如一家一般。

Episode 28

Yuan Zong moaned slightly as he yawned, relaxing with his hands behind his head. He could still feel the sticky warm flush of sweat all over his body, and the residual pleasant ache of having had a satisfying orgasm. Xia Yao laid next to him, shoulder to shoulder. Yuan Zong smiled to himself. He liked that Xia Yao always had to be touching; he wondered if it grounded him. Yuan Zong was just allowing himself to sink into sleep when Xia Yao spoke softly.

"So, this weekend…"

Yuan Zong turned his head a little, frowning, "Hmm?"

"You should come to dinner with my friends." Xia Yao said. His tone of voice was hopeful.

"Which friends?" Yuan Zong asked suspiciously, "Do you mean that Da Yu guy?"

Xia Yao pursed his mouth. As tired as he was, Yuan Zong had the strong urge to kiss those pink, soft lips again.

"Yeah, and Peng Ze," Xia Yao clarified. He gave an anxious look over at Yuan Zong. The older man frowned again and put his arms down, turning away. Nothing was a mood killer like Da Yu.

Xia Yao pouted, "I told him to behave this time - he just has a temper."

Yuan Zong settled into the covers, closing his eyes and pretending to go to sleep. Xia Yao frowned and looked away.

'I was just asking!' he complained quietly to himself. He huffed a small sigh and was about to turn his back to Yuan Zong when a large hand suddenly gripped his jaw and turned his face to the side. Xia Yao was forced to look at the intense gaze of Yuan Zong.

"I'll go, for you," Yuan Zong said. "But if he tries anything I cannot promise I will sit back and do nothing."

Xia Yao smiled and nodded, too happy to care that his boyfriend just threatened to potentially beat up his best friend. It meant a lot to him that he could go out with Yuan Zong and his friends all together, openly, and without fear of being judged for being with a man. Da Yu needed to know Xia Yao and Yuan Zong were officially dating and that there was no need to harass Yuan Ru or be jealous.

"Thank you, Da-ge." Xia Yao said sweetly. Yuan Zong gave a half smile. It didn't matter how annoyed or put out he felt. One look at that boy's dreamy expressive eyes and he was hooked.

"How dare you," he growled in a low voice, and pulled Xia Yao closer, planting a firm kiss on those delicious lips. Xia Yao kissed him back, pushing his tongue into Yuan Zong's mouth boldly. It sent sparks down Yuan Zong's body and he rolled over on top of the more slender man, his fatigue melting away.

"How dare you make me want you this much," he whispered against Xia Yao's now panting mouth. Hands crept up Yuan Zong's bare back and he rocked his hips into Xia Yao beneath him.

It seemed they were going to sleep a little bit later that night.

Records of Fu Pi, part 2

Pi again used Wang Yong as Minister over the Masses, Recording the Affairs of the Masters of Writing; Xu Yi as Prefect of Master of Writing, concurrently Brilliantly Blessed Grandee of the Right.]

Earlier, Wang Guang returned from Chengdu, fleeing [with?] his elder brother, the Inspector of Qin province, Tong. And when Chang'an was not defended, Guang attacked the Shepherd of He province, Mao Xing, at Fuhan. Xing dispatched the General who Establish Authority, the Earl of Linqing, Wei Ping, to lead his clan, 1 700 people, to attack Guang's army at night, greatly defeating him. Wang Tong again dispatched troops to help Guang. Xing at that encircled the city and firmly defended. He then raided Wang Guang, defeating him. Guang absconded and fled to Qin province. He was arrested by the Longxi Xianbei Pilan and sent off to Yao Chang.

When Xing had defeated Wang Guang, he planned to strike Wang Tong, pacifying Shanggui. The various Di of Fuhan were all distressed by the warfare, and in exhaustion were not capable of instructions. They therefore killed Xing and pushed forward Wei Ping as Envoy Holding the Tally, General who Calms the West and Inspector of He province, and dispatched envoys to request instructions.

Diao Yun killed Murong Zhong, and then pushed forward Murong Yong as Envoy Holding the Tally, Great Commander-in-Chief of All Army Affairs in the Centre and Outside, Great General, Great Chanyu, Shepherd of Yong, Qin, Liang# and Liang provinces, Recording the Affairs of the Masters of Writing, King of Hedong, calling him a vassal of Chui.

The [General who] Conquers the East, Fu Ding, the [General who] Garrisons the East, Fu Shao, the [General who] Conquers the North, Fu Mo, and the [General who] Garrisons the North, Liang, all surrendered to Murong Chui.

Pi again advanced Yong as Imperial Chancellor of the Left; Fu Zuan as Great Marshal, Zhang Hao as Grand Commandant; Wang Teng as Great General of Agile Cavalry with the Same Ceremonies as the Three Ministers; Xu Yi as Minister of Works; Fu Chong as Great General of Chariots and Cavalry and Prefect of the Masters of Writing, the Same Ceremonies as the Three Ministers;  Ju Shizi as Great General of Guards and Supervisor of the Left of the Masters of Writing, acting in office all like before.

Yong again called the provinces and commanderies to arms, saying: “Formerly the Xia had the difficulties of the destitute Yi, Shaokang stood up to them. Wang Mang poisoned and killed Emperor Ping. Shizu weightily shone the Way of Han [?]. The fortune of Hundred and Six [?] how to replace without it?”

“Heaven confers loss and chaos, the Qiang Hu deceive the Xia. The Former Emperor's peaceful carriage [is in] the thief's courtyard, the capital city bending to become a pit of the Rong, the Sacred Provinces are a southernwood twig, giving birth to spirits smeared in coal [?]. Heaven has not yet destroyed Qin, the altars of soil and grain have service. The Ruler and Sovereign's sagely virtue is immense and vast, [his?] Way equally brilliant and martial, being the heart of the home, Heaven and Man return to connect, surely must undertake the merits of a prosperous middle flourishing,  again matching Heaven's excellence.”

“Yao Chang is ruthless and cruel, Murong Chui is murderous and violent, passing by they wipe out the smoke of Yi households [?], destroying and shooting tombs and graves, poisoning widely living and dead [?], the pain binding the dark display [?]. Even the murdering of the Yellow Turbans in the Nine Provinces and the violence of the Red Eyebrows in the Four Seas, soon they will not be as great.”

“Now plain autumn [?] is about to come, acting on the host's orders at the auspicious time [?]. Dukes, Marquises, Shepherds and Wardens, masters of the ramparts and country braves, someone exerting their power for state and family, therefore heart for the royal house, each leading their command, using the first ten day of the first winter month to assemble with the Great Carriage at Linjin.”

At that, Jiang Yan of Tianshui, Kou Ming of Fengyi, Wang Zhao of Hedong, Zhang Yan of Xinping, Du Min of Jingzhao, Ma Lang of Fufeng, the [General who] Establish Loyalty Mu Guan of Gaoping [?], the Chief Commandant Wang Min and others all received the call to arms and raised up troops. Each had a multitude of several tens of thousands, and dispatched envoys to submit to Pi. All who approached were designated Generals, Wardens of commanderies and enfeoffed among the Marquises.

The [General of the Best of the Army, Deng Jing, embraced a multitude of 5 000 to occupu Pengchi. He and Du Chong were head and tail, striking Chang's Grand Warden of Pingliang, Jin Xi. The Chief Commandant of the Northern Section of Anding, the Xianbei Mo Yiyu led the King of Shanshan, Huyuanzha [?], the Commander of the Palace Gentlemen who Protects the Qiang, Liang Jinu and others, and fought with Chang's General of the Left, Yao Fangcheng and [General who] Garrisons the Distant [+], Qinag Jing at Sunqiu valley, greatly defeating them.

The various Di of Fuhan, due to Wei Ping being old and aged, and not able therefore to complete the business of the affair, discussed to depose him, but dreaded his clan's stubbornness. For a series of days they did not decide. The Di had a certain Dan Qing, he spoke to the various generals, saying: “The great affair ought to be decided, to the east to punish Yao Chang, not possible to be lost in stammers and similarly be at ease [?]. One morning and the affair comes, turning over to become the injury of the people. The various armies only requests Duke Wei to assemble and conserve the multitude generals [?], Qing to be the various armies judge him. [?]” The multitudes used him to be like that.

At that, they greatly hosted the various generals. Qing drew his sword, [stood] before them said: “Now under Heaven is in great chaos, dholes and wolves block the roads. I and you lot [?] today can speak of favour and distress being the same [?], no master of virtue and clarity can not possibly relieve the difficult hardship. Duke Wei is infirm and senile and not capable therefore to complete the great affair. [We] ought to turn over and start submitting, thereby avoiding the worthy road [?]. The Way of the Di lengthens with [?] Fu Deng even if Wang Ding neglects to join, yet the outline of [his?] will is manly and enlightened. I request that we together establish him, thereby attending the Great Carriage. [You] various Lords, if [you] are not of the same mind, conveniently below the other discussion. [?]” He then raised [swung?] the sword and seized the sleeves, two of the generals he beheaded himself. The multitudes all followed him and did not dare to raise their eyes. At that he pushed forward Deng to be the commander and dispatched envoys to Pi to request instructions.

Pi used Deng as Great General who Conquers the West, Opening Office with the Same Ceremonies as the Three Ministers, King of Nan'an, Holding the Tally, and the supervision of the provinces and commanderies because of that were addressed to him [?] and conferred to him. He also used Xu Yi as Imperial Chancellor of the Left.

Pi detained Wang Teng to protect Jinyang. Yang Fu guarded Huguan. He led a multitude of 40 000 advance to occupy Pingyang. Wang Tong used Qin province to surrender to Yao Chang. Murong Yong due to Pi's arrival at Pingyang, was afraid and did not strengthen himself. He therefore dispatched envoys seek to borrow passage to return east. Pi did not allow it. He dispatched Wang Yong and Fu Zuan to attack him, using Ju Shizi as Commander-in-Chief of Van Headquarters. [They?] and Yong fought at Xiangling. Wang Yong was greatly defeated. Yong and Shizi both died there.

Earlier, at Fu Zuan's flight to Pi, his accompanying section was more than 3 000 strong soldiers. Pi was suspicious and dreaded him. At Yong's defeat, he feared to be killed by Zuan, and led several thousand cavalry to flee south to Dongyuan. Jin's General who Spreads Power, Feng Gai, attacked them from Shanyao [?], defeating him and cutting off Pi's head. He captured his Heir-Apparent, Ning and the King of Changle, Shou, and sent them off to the imperial capita. The imperial court forgave and did not execute them, but returned them to Fu Hong.
