Can I see your safety pin collection? 🥺
okay so I used to have an entire bowl, but my mom threw them away (thought they were garbage), so this is what I have now after a few years of rebuilding:
#neon's void#I mostly get them from 5k races#but a few I got from my roommate's sewing project (with permission)#And others idk where they came from#The old collection was 7 years worth of xc races and 5k races#so it was a lot easier to build up

I love running so much. Like it’s not complicated you don’t need to be good at it you don’t need to go out and buy xyz beforehand. You don’t even need fancy running shoes really if you’re just running on your own. All it is is just “can I run? Do I want to run?” And if the answers are yes then you can just go out and run! You don’t have to be the fastest person in the world. There’s no standard. You don’t have to run a sub 25 5k or anything you just go out and put one foot in front of the other and enjoy it. Running is literally the best more people should do it
#S.K rants about running again#Probably just a personal thing but like it’s also really refreshing and helps me mentally#Like I don’t care about times in the way it defines how good I am. If I can cut a couple seconds off my average 5K time then I’ll be happy!#Like I dropped from like a 30 minute 5K to just over a 29 minute 5K and I was so happy with myself#And even when I’m not running competitively like get me some good tunes and give me like a half hour I’ll be good for the rest of the day#The conditions don’t have to be good either like I’ve ran in the rain it’s the best thing ever#Anyway yeah. If you want to do something productive go on a short little run!!! It’s fun I swear#No matter how slow or fast or whatever you may be. Don’t care abt anyone else#And a word of advice to any fellow XC runners: don’t beat yourself up over times. Especially if you’re on a team and competing#It’s one thing to know you’ve gotta improve a little and it’s another to be down in the dumps over a bad race#Trust me I’ve been there it sucks. But there are better races to come!!! Just you wait#S.K thinks#Sorry I ranted I just really like running

Re: My FFXIV Xenoblade crossover
I'm still trying to get the hang of gpose (and I kind of went overboard in my brainstorming for all the things I want to make haha) so it'll still be a while before it's finished, but here's a sneak peek in the meantime ;)
#xenoblade#shulk#ffxiv#i know his foot is clipping into the ground but don't worry the final pics will be nicer i promise haha#i'm sorry it took so long to update this project btw!#it took me literal weeks to scout out all the potential gear/glam pieces that look like their clothes#plus i play on ps5 so i have to steal my bf's computer and ff account otherwise getting the pics would be a huge hassle#also fun fact: the gloves are actually dyed to look like his skin tone! it just so happens the only part that#dyes is the bit covering the hands so it works out perfectly! bc there are zero tank gloves that cover the arms but don't cover#the hands and that's what i needed to emulate his sweater sleeves since this top has long red sleeves#but i'm very happy with the results! :)#there he is it's shulk finalfantasy!#i'm so excited to make share the rest: i'm doing even more charas than just the main party#and i'm doing a ''huyr version'' and a ''what ffxiv race would they play as'' version for each of them!#i also decided which jobs/classes they'd each be based on their xc kits/roles with explanations as to all the matching details#it's gonna be lots of fun! i hope you're as excited to see them as i am to share them!#ff14

First XC race of the season. Top 5 baby!! I was close to podium just need to intensify my fitness program and be able to push myself longer. I started strong in 1st and fell back to 7th because I burnt a match to early. Pushed through and was able to catch two more positions which set me into 5th for my first mbaa series race.

Also there are reasons to do things other than being excellent at them! I ran XC in high school and part of college (and after I quit the team in college, I still ran every day for the next two years-- just couldn't spare the time for formal practices or meets). I was solidly a back of the pack runner in high school and very occasionally last to finish in college. I mostly was still getting better throughout the season, I took the edge off my anxiety, I got to be outdoors in the woods while the leaves were turning and falling, and I had delightful teammates to hang out with. Those were all worth the time and energy, even if I never got "good."
What I'm trying to say is, maybe also get some advice from people who are solidly mediocre at the thing but improving, enjoying it, and not giving up, because progress and persistence are also good aims.
I used to do cross country in high school, and there was this guy on the team that was wonderful. Great guy. But his advice to everyone that asked how to get good was to run 20k a day.
If you don't run, I'll just tell you, most people's bodies cannot take that kind of abuse. No matter how much you train, you will not be able to run 20k a day. It's like how you can't train to make your cuts heal faster. You recover as fast as you recover. So while a big part of what made this guy so succesful was the dedication and mental toughness needed to actually run 20k a day, an equally big part was that he healed like fucking Wolverine. And that's fine, but it would've been nice if he knew that and stopped telling new guys to commit suicide by jogging.
Different guy on the team ran like, 5-6k a day, which actually isn't all that much. His problem when he gave advice was that he didn't really get that 5-6k a day doesn't generally produce elite results for most people. He was lucky in the sense that he didn't have to work all that hard to get great results, and unlucky in the sense that if he pushed himself much further than that, he fell apart.
I think about those two whenever I get advice from succesful people. The very things that make them outliers also make their advice useless to most people. Worse, they're often outliers on totally separate ends of the same spectrum, so their advice will be contradictory.
#i missed my brother horribly my first year of college and hanging out w/ the men's xc team helped a lot#they did a very similar combo of doing fun stuff (mst3k / x-files / muppets nights) and giving me grief#the women's team helped me get a lot less rigid about some orthorexic habits (and also helped me learn i was not straight after all)#and i learned that post-race i love everybody- for me it's like having had three drinks except i don't get a hangover

maths time again - xc skiing edition:
there is a total of 345 points left to score in falun (115 in the sprint, 100 in the individual start and 130 in the mass start).
harald currently leads the overall world cup by 157 points. johannes needs to score 52⅓ points more than johannes in every remaining race (on average) to win the overall.
jessie currently leads the overall world cup by 102 points. linn needs to score 34 points more than jessie in every remaining race (on average) to win the overall.
if we only look at the points that will be awarded based on the race result (3x 100 points) and if johannes wins all three races he needs harald to finish no higher than 17th. on the women's side, if linn wins all three races she needs jessie to finish no higher than 9th.
however there are 45 bonus points left on the table: 15 for the sprint qualification and 2x 15 for the bonus sprints in the mass starts. this could obviously mix things up and makes it quite hard to calculate who wins it in the end/who needs which position to win.
also noteworthy: both the sprint and the individual start will be held in classic technique whereas the mass start will be in skating.
tldr: falun will be exciting!
#xc skiing#tried to keep it objective but i have some thoughts (AND HOPES) on the topic#('why do you do this if you cannot even watch the races?' you ask? well idk myself)
