tftstst favorite details w the ventures. brock telling the family to scatter (to safety) when the black hearts attack & rusty staying right beside him . brock telling the boys he doesnt love them & that they're just a job and the boys (or at least hank, but assuming both of them bc dean greets him cheerfully when he calls) knowing he's lying and he does love them and that they are a family . also brock immediately feeling bad that that's what he had to say to them to get them to safety . "does brock ever tell you what to do?" & them saying yeah sometimes , ik this is probably in reference to safety/bodyguard stuff but i think it's cute in a paternal sense too just bc i know he tells them to do chores or go to bed on time or get in their PJs and come say goodnight etc , he really is their second dad . Brock's concern when he sees Hank talking to Le Teur & the way he tells him to get away from him & immediately checking to make sure he didnt hurt Hank even though the assassins really dont care about the Ventures . more serious stuff is brock giving up going on the run & fighting bc he realizes the Ventures can't handle it/he doesnt wanna put them through that & also brock immediately abandoning his plan when he sees the clone slugs on the battlefield & every time in prev eps where he is very insistent on protecting the boys and keeping them alive (his specific worry in I Know Why the Caged Bird Kills when he thinks they're dead in a dumpster & his profound relief that they're not) even though they have backup clones (even going as far as to focus on rescuing them in Victor. Echoe. November. rather than Rusty (who does not have clone backups))

Summary: Logan is your best friend and you go over to his bedroom because you just can't sleep. He has feelings for you, but you're oblivious.

Logan stared at you as you screamed bloody murder into his pillow. It wasn't the first time someone had done that with him in the room, only this time, it wasn't because he was connected at the hip, ravaging the sense out of whoever he decided to lay that day.

You were the first person, ever, to lay on his bed and just exist there. No ulterior motive. No sexual advancement. Just there, to scream into a pillow, at the cruelty of the universe for the phenomenon that was insomnia.

A smile quirked up on his lips as he snuffed out the cigar he was smoking not too long ago, and lay in bed next to you, waiting for you to grumble out what it was that pissed you off now. It was a weekly thing at this point, and always, at this hour, he counted down the minutes until you texted his phone and asked if he was up.

“You know," he began, warranting a light huff from you as you turned your head to look at him, "when you toss and turn like that, it disturbs the flavor of my cigar,” he teased, mischief flickering in his gaze. 

You frowned as you rolled your eyes and shifted your body until you were face to face with him, scrunching your nose at the snuffed out cigar.

“I told you not to smoke that in an enclosed space. You’re gonna set off the sprinklers,” you replied to him, knowing that he didn’t even bother to open a window. 

Classic Logan. 

A grin spread across his face. “The window was open. I closed it after I snuffed it out.”

“Bullshit.”

“Come on, Badger,” he reached over to lightly punch you on the shoulder, calling you the nickname he so cheerfully gave you when you told him you wanted a new X-Men name, “Have a little faith in me.”

Rolling your eyes, the two of you sat up together, exchanging glances. His grin faded into something more gentle, knowing that he wanted to give you a space to vent out your frustrations like you always did. Despite the hard exterior he showed to everyone else, you were the one safe place for him to unmask his soft, gooey center. It was something that surprised him too, and because of it, he knew you were something special. His best friend. His confidant. It only made sense to him to offer you a space where you could feel as safe as you made him feel too.

“Okay tell me,” he invited. “Why the long face? Which one of ‘em pissed you off today? Was it Scott?”

“No one pissed me off,” you sighed, grabbing one of his pillows to hug. “Just can’t sleep, that’s all.”

“Ah. Good ole insomnia,” he replied, tucking his legs into his chest. “You know what helped me with that back in the army?”

“What?”

A wicked smile spread across his face. “A good fuck.”

“Ew!” You shoved at his arm and he laughed, positioning himself back to a sitting position. “We’re in a school, asshole. I can’t just go around fucking anyone I want here. There are children present.”

“Come on, you’re tellin’ me you don’t think about walkin’ on over to Colossus or Storm’s door and-"

“Are you saying you do?” 

He snorted. “Have you seen Colossus?”

“Logan.”

“You seriously think everyone around you isn’t fucking around in this place?”

“I have been here longer than you, dick for brains," you reminded him, shaking your head. "Of course I know people are fucking. That does not mean I want to do that here,” you sniped, laying back down to stare up at his ceiling. 

“Point is,” he said as he lay on his side, resting his head on his hand, “the staff? We all get laid, whether it’s with each other or out in the world.”

You scrunched your nose. “Who’s we? It’s certainly not you.”

He scoffed, trying to act nonchalant with you, even if you read him like an open book. He hadn't been able to bring himself to get laid in a while, even if he knew he could charm anyone to do exactly that. At first, he couldn't really put a finger on why that was, but he noticed it more and more as the two of you started to become close friends, and though the answer was obvious to everyone else, he knew he couldn't go there. He simply wouldn't with you. You were the one good thing about being on this damn team, and he couldn't ruin it. He couldn't ruin you.

“You don’t know that,” he replied, shoving down the feeling.

“Oh come on, Logan. I know you," you teased, flaunting how well you knew your best friend. "I’d know if you were fucking someone, and the only one whose pants you wanna get into is still very married," you pointed out to him with emphasis. He blanched slightly, but you chose to ignore it. "Plus, you tell me everything.”

He blinked at the statement as if you had dropped an unclipped grenade in his open hands. It was true that he told you most things - things that he hardly or never told anyone else - you brought it out of him like that. But there is one thing that he never dared to tell you, and the more he thought about the phrase, the more it started to eat him alive.

“No I don’t,” he admitted, trying and failing to derail the conversation to go anywhere else.

“Yes you do, you can’t help it,” you teased, not even noticing the sudden hitch in his breath or the slow swallow of his suddenly dry throat. “All I have to do is slide you a beer and you run like a broken faucet. You can’t resist me, it’s embarrassing.”

That, he always knew was true. He couldn't resist you. No matter who he decided to flirt with, or who he wanted to fuck, he couldn't resist the desire to go and spend time with you instead. It terrified him - made him subdued in a way that was so unfamiliar to him that it made his stomach twist into knots every time he did so much as think about what it would be like to be wrapped around you as you slept, run his fingers down your back while you spoke, or dare he even think, to wonder what it would be like to taste your lips.

He paused for a moment, his smile fading. “Except I don’t, Badger.” He shook his head, feeling the weight of every yearning thought that clouded his mind. “I don’t tell you everything.”

The atmosphere shifted in an instant, the look on his face suddenly unreadable. There were very few times when a joke like that would affect him in this way, and due to the fact that it was rare for you to encounter one of those situations, you found yourself not knowing how to respond.

“You…don’t have to,” you settled for as a reply, suddenly feeling like you had to apologize for some reason. “I was just messing around, Logan. You have your shit, I have mine. I’m more than happy with the information you tell me. It’s why we work.”

You're right, he wanted to tell you. You're right, that is why we work. I don't have to tell you how I feel, and that's why I get to keep you. I don't get to mess up your life like I did everyone else's.

That seemed to fix the awkward shift as he chuckled and looked away.

“Probably for the best,” he admitted, his eyes flickering back up to you. 

Tilting your head with a cheeky grin, you asked, “Why?" You leaned forward with a challenge, looking into his eyes. "Scared I’ll run away?”

But the atmosphere changed again, pulling you both back down into something far deeper and away from your surface-level lightheartedness and humor.

“No,” he whispered, his throat bobbing as he swallowed. “Scared that I will.”

I have no idea if it's from the og snes since I play on the legacy collection but oh my goodness turning on the game after finishing sigma stage 3 or 2 from last night only to be loaded into sigma stage 1 is painful

Yeah basically once you get to the sigma stages, just finish it one sitting 😭

I think this also applies to x hunters stage in X2 because I remember opening the game and loading into x hunter stage 1 even after beating stage 3 and closing the game

even if you beat sigma stage 1 and get a password, if you turn the game off and then input the password for next time, it will still make you play thru sigma stage 1 again, even though by beating it and getting the password, that would imply it would instead load you into sigma stage 2

doesn't matter which stage, either

you could beat sigma stage 3 and get a password... but upon turning the game off and back on again, it won't matter

the password you get from beating sigma stage 3 will STILL LOAD YOU INTO SIGMA STAGE 1 REGARDLESS

Shifting gears slightly, this is The Forest-Lords of Dihad (1982), the first of two products detailing the Land Beyond the Mountains, a setting developed by Gamelords for Metagaming’s Fantasy Trip system. Despite the promise of the material, the deal fell apart when Metagaming closed and Fantasy Trip slipped into copyright limbo. The pair of modules from Gamelords are, to my knowledge, the only third-party material produced for Fantasy Trip during its first incarnation.

I’ve never looked at any of Metagaming’s later adventures, and Tollenkar’s Lair is just a large dungeon, so I can’t really judge Dihad against the mainline content, but I am willing to bet this is pretty different. It’s very much a setting book, comparable with something like Griffin Mountain in terms of the size of the territory and the sort of details the book is interested in (social groups, topography, factions, as opposed to a more encounter-based focus like X1: The Isle of Dread, or even the overland details in Mines of Keridav). It’s…very good. It makes me seriously wonder what Thieves Guild might have developed into had Gamelords had the staying power of Chaosium and RuneQuest.

It is not at all what I expect for Fantasy Trip, which I think of as more of a tactical combat game. In fact, there is very little sense of system in the text. TFT stuff is there, but it isn’t in the foreground, making this material essentially generic.

Pretty sure that is a Wyman cover, but not one of their best. Wyman, Larry Shade and and Wallace Miller are all credited as interior illustrators, and they do a very good job. Really love that gargoyle. Which, gargoyle hunting is a big thing here — their gallbladders are important components for all sorts of arcane doings, and someone one has been overhunting and stockpiling them, causing a general shortage. This whole plot thread is delightfully odd and worth the price of admission alone (which was about 25 bucks, at least until I posted about it). I wish I had the second volume!

🩸Gallifreyan Blood and Iron Usage

Unlike humans, who rely on red blood cells to transport oxygen via haemoglobin, Gallifreyans have an entirely independent respiratory system that doesn't use oxygen transport through the bloodstream. Instead, their blood (a metaphorical equivalent made up of Blood X1-cells and Blood X2-cells) circulates nutrients, heat, and chemical messengers.

Blood X1-cells, which contain iron, are vital for cellular respiration and various metabolic processes. Although the respiratory system is independent, iron still plays a key role in Gallifreyan cellular respiration, ensuring that cells can function efficiently and process energy.

😴How Iron Deficiency Might Affect Gallifreyans

Since Gallifreyans don't have haemoglobin or red blood cells, iron deficiency in them wouldn't appear like in humans. In humans, iron deficiency leads to anaemia because there's not enough haemoglobin to carry oxygen to tissues. For Gallifreyans, however, the impact would be different:

Energy and Metabolism: Iron is still essential for cellular respiration, even if the process doesn't involve haemoglobin. Without enough iron, a Gallifreyan's ability to process energy efficiently might be compromised, leading to fatigue or sluggishness.

Healing and Regeneration: Because Blood X2-cells contain artron and lindos (the key substances involved in Time Lord physiology), a lack of iron could slow down or impair these processes. The body's ability to recover from injuries or complete regenerative cycles might weaken.

Cravings and Body Response: A Gallifreyan low on iron would likely experience strong cravings for iron-rich food, such as red meat, as their body attempts to replenish this vital nutrient. The digestive system would work hard to absorb and recycle whatever iron it can find.

🪫Iron Regulation and Deficiency

Gallifreyans have a more advanced regulatory system for iron, allowing them to adapt quickly when levels get too high or too low:

Too Little Iron: When iron levels drop, signals are sent to the circulatory, digestive, and respiratory systems to recycle iron, absorbing as much as possible from food intake and even redistributing internal stores to critical areas. This would likely stave off full-blown iron deficiency for longer than in humans but wouldn't make them immune to it.

Too Much Iron: Conversely, when there's an excess of iron, Gallifreyan kidneys produce artron, which helps neutralise and expel the excess iron, preventing toxicity. This system keeps their iron levels in check, but an iron deficiency might weaken their ability to regulate properly.

🏫So ...

Yes they can, but in a very different way from humans. A Gallifreyan wouldn't develop iron-deficiency anaemia as we understand it in humans, but they could suffer from iron deficiency, leading to issues with energy metabolism, regeneration, and possibly immune response. Their symptoms would likely include:

Fatigue or sluggishness due to compromised cellular respiration

Weakened healing and regeneration abilities

Cravings for iron-rich foods, signalling their body's need to replenish vital nutrients

However, thanks to their advanced biology and ability to recycle and regulate iron levels, it would take a REALLY long time of iron deprivation for these symptoms to become severe.

Hey all!

First off, I want to disclose with full transparency that I’ve had a pretty severe case of “long Covid” for the better part of a month with a co-morbid case of bronchitis and a general throat infection. This put a lot of things out of whack and I do apologize. I got hit with the "tri-power beam." 

Without getting into the weeds on details, I had three scary hospital visits and a bedbound holidays, which greatly impacted my ability to work with the team and did set us back. I’ve since mostly recovered, but I still have a nasty cough, a general wheeze, and cannot use my full voice. I believe this may unfortunately end up impacting my breathing for the rest of my life, but hey I'm still kicking! 

Please stay safe, sanitary, and wear protection around other people.  

Full disclosure! This also impacted my ability to address this earlier, and to give updates, but after recovering I took some time to speak with people and conduct research. 

After speaking with experts, we’ve decided that our best course of action is to refund all previous raffle tickets and instead conduct the contest as a free sweepstakes!
