As a touring musician I've criss-crossed most of the lower 48, and seen so many amazing places along the way. Yet it's easy to forget the beautiful sights, sounds, and people because we're always on the move, never staying for very long, seeing so much, and leaving so much. Take this image for example, when I look at it—time stops, you feel the slow flow of the Snake River, the haze of a shimmery afternoon across the valley, the changing aspens lighting up like firecrackers along the river bottom—you can hear the leaves in the light breeze. But this was just a roadside quick stop on a nearly 7 hour drive from Sheridan to our gig in Jackson. It could so easily disappear, and the moment was, literally, so quickly gone. And I think this is why I pursue photography mostly as a passion and occasionally as a profession, it's really just a great way to stop time, to sit back and take a moment to appreciate. ... So my nerd wife was talking about Independence Rock for 634 miles. As usual, @not_ally10 was right, well worth the detour. Over 500,000 Americans passed by this rock as they ventured west on the Oregon Trail.
