i swear to god i will combust if the spin off starts with the van eck reveal and Jesper is PISSED and they argue about trust and secrets and the room in the slat gets brought up so Wylan does a runner because he can’t handle the anger is Jespers voice cause it reminds him too much of his fathers rage

‘n’ then Wylan is walking through the barrel to either the Tannery or just somewhere to get away for a bit and then BAM his fathers hit men fuck him right up and he’s bloody and messy and hurt but he fights like the lil canal rat he is and blows em to shit and ends up stumbling his arse back to the tannery where he does a shit job of patching himself up and after a few hours or a day or two jesper is panicking cause he hasn’t seen Wylan so he goes looking and he finds him and sees him hurt and he goes mental (cue: “who did this to you”) and Wylan brings up the letters and asks Jes to read them to him and once he’s done he explains everything and jesus christ-

not a coherent thought was had

OMG OKAY you mentioned witcher soc au, what are you doing for van eck/the ice court?? like what's your premise?? this is truly a god tier idea omg

i am SO GLAD YOU ASKED!!!! i have so many thoughts ... you can find my original post about this idea in the top posts on my blog, i think it’ll also show up quick under six of crows! for some reason adding links won’t work :(

BUT basically, my characters go like this: geralt as kaz, yennefer as inej, lambert as jesper, jaskier as wylan, letho as matthias, and eskel as nina. kerch/ketterdam will be novigrad (although i’m debating keeping the name ketterdam), fjerda will be nilfgaard, and ravka/shu han will be the northern kingdoms (yes, nikolai is involved, and he is played by the one and only aiden).

for van eck, a popular headcanon is that jaskier’s parents suck, which makes his dad fit perfectly into the role! his backstory with the boat and his father trying to kill him won’t be revealed till muchhhh later, so geralt is unaware of who he’s getting involved with. he just knows that mr. pankratz doesn’t seem like a good man

fjerda is nilfgaard, which makes the ice court the nilfgaardian palace. i’m unsure if emhyr will still remain as emperor, considering the ruler of fjerda is never really brought up- i may write emhyr as the drüskelle Commander instead, to tie him and letho together and make his character more prominent! i plan on having ciri be kuwei, a powerful mage being held captive by nilfgaard that mr. pankratz father wants.

most of this will follow the plot of the first book, but i don’t think i’ll get into the main issue in book two. instead, i plan on having them get back from nilfgaard with ciri, have a small conflict (nothing like the big auction and the queen lady’s plague stuff in crooked kingdom), and then an ending. i’m super excited to really get into this au!! combines two of my super big interests rn. feel free to send me more asks or dm me if you want to hear more 😌💖

Modernish Day AU (760 words)

Wylan glanced at his reflection in the visor mirror and ran his fingers over his curls.

Nina laughed. "I think that's a lost cause."

"I can't believe I agreed to come," he grumbled, dropping his hands in his lap.

"C'mon. One date won't kill you. Matthias and I will be just a few booths away if you need us."

"We will?" Matthias asked from where he was squished in the backseat.

"You know I can't pass up Wa Ho, baby." Nina pulled into the lot and parked. She got out and Matthias followed, unfolding his body and shaking out his limbs. Wylan opened the door but couldn’t bring himself to stand up. Nina sighed, strode around the car, and pulled him out.

“You’re acting like we’re leading you to your death,” she complained.

“Sorry,” he said, allowing her to drag him through the parking lot.

When they were inside, Nina pointed to a lanky boy in a booth. He wore a lime green t-shirt and bright yellow boardshorts that should have looked terrible but glowed against his dark brown skin.

When Wylan didn't move, Nina shoved him.

“What the hell?”

“Move your ass. I want waffles.”

The commotion was enough to make the boy look up. A wide, perfect smile spread across his face.

"You must be Wylan," he said. "I'm Jesper."

"Hi," he murmured, dropping on the bench across from him.

"Hiya." Jesper sat back, still grinning. "Get whatever you want."

Wylan stared at the laminated menu in front of him. As usual, the words tangled and swam and Jesper was watching and he couldn’t focus couldn’t make them stand still…

“Uh, what are you getting?” Wylan asked, quickly folding his arms over the menu.

"The All Star Special."

"I'll just have that, then."

Jesper shot him a strange look. "Okay."

They sat in silence for a few long moments until a waiter sidled up to the table, pen poised over his order sheet.

"I guess we'll have two All Star Specials," Jesper said, flashing the waiter a smile that flushed his cheeks.  

"Anything to drink?”

"Just water.”

Jesper drummed his fingers on the table. "So, Kaz says you know your way around a chemistry set."

Wylan blinked. "Yeah. I, uh, guess I have a background."

"Yeah.”

"What do...what do you like to do?"

"Shoot guns." He smiled that dazzling smile. "I grew up on a farm just south of here. My mom taught me how to shoot." The smile faded.

"I've never even shot skeet before," Wylan confessed. “My dad wouldn’t take me.”

"It's the best feeling." Jesper's eyes sparkled. "Maybe I'll take you sometime."

"Isn't that illegal?"

"No," Jesper said flatly. "You need a license to own a gun, not to shoot one."

"Oh."

The waiter came with their food. It looked like a heart attack on a platter. Jesper laid into his like it was water in the middle of a desert. Wylan didn’t pick up his fork.  

"Don't you like your food?" Jesper asked after a while.

"Oh, it's fine," Wylan said, his cheeks heating.

"Why didn't you just get something you wanted?"

Wylan shrugged.

Jesper peered at him. "Have you ever even been to a Wa Ho before?"

"No."

Jesper shook his head. "Where are you from, anyway? I can't believe I've never seen you before."

"The other side of town.”.  

Jesper cocked his head. "What's your last name?"

"...Van Eck," he admitted, his face flushing.

"Figures you'd be a councilman's son," Jesper muttered into his waffles.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Never been to a WaHo, never shot a gun, your delicate little hands...it adds up, kid."

Wylan clenched his teeth. "I'm not a kid. I'm only a little younger than you."

Jesper rolled his eyes. "I know."

"And I might not have been to a Waffle House, but at least I don’t waste all my money sneaking into casinos. How can you even afford this date, anyway?"

"Did Nina tell you that?” He folded his arms across his chest.  

Wylan shrugged. "I hear things.”

They picked at their food. 

"So, what do you want to do with chemistry, anyway?" Jesper asked eventually.

"Nanotechnology.”

“What’s that?”

Wylan took a deep breath. “Basically, I want to manipulate matter on a nanoscale to develop new materials. For example, I have this idea for a compound that would react to sugars in such a way that would dissolve anything underneath it, no matter the material.”

Jesper stared at him. "You're cuter when you're smart."

Wylan’s face heated. Jesper smirked and bit into his waffle.

the most beautiful character in this story is in-canon a chubby, bisexual girl

who is never made to feel bad about her weight 

who loves herself (and waffles) unconditionally 

did i also mention she could destroy us all ~ she is also the most powerful character in this story (a magician called a “grisha”

has an extremely healthy and empowering relationship with 1! matthias helvar (we’ll get to him in a second) 

even though they are enemies @ first they become friends and then fall in love and it is GREAT this could have been executed so poorly but it’s actually v cute and fluffy

he loves her so much it’s so cute 

he too is a badass-he was specially trained to hunt down grisha 

secretly a huge dork but outwardly he’s very uptight (lmao he’s Relatable) 

jesper fahey

starts out as escapism at its finest ~ basically he just wants to have fun all the time and avoid his problems

but he learns how to handle himself and that sometimes you have to face your demons to get what you want 

makes a lot of mistakes but shows that he can grow and learn from them 

did i mention he is a) in canon biracial + bisexual b) in canon dark skinned we love some good representation ayyyy he’s def not a token brown or anything 

and everyone’s totally okay with his bisexuality there’s literally no homophobia in this story 

has wild fashion taste and likes guns a lot bitchh he dropped out of college to join a gang and escape his boring a$$ farmer life if that isn’t a power move wtf is 

definitely the funniest character but that does not in any way detract from his character development

they’re genuinely so good neither of them would ever TRY to hurt the other, and they’re both so tender and apologetic if they ever do. I think I’m gonna have to say jesper though just because. he’s still a little stirred by his addiction (to trouble! to bringing two guns to a gun fight! to gambling! to love!) and he’s got some jealousy and sensitivity baked into him, bless him. I feel like he’d run a risk and break Wy’s heart by accident, a little bit

who is emotionally stronger?

a genuine toughie bc they’ve both survived and persevered so MUCH. I think in terms of immediate reactionary instincts, Jes is better at letting bad vibes roll right off of him. He’s made of smiles. He’s trouble and a good time rolled into a waistcoat. If you insult him he only gets stronger. Wy was raised in silk and champagne but he was raised BY an absolute monster so. he’s a very bruised peach. criticism pierces him v easily. Though in a more fundamental way, wylan has fashioned his past trauma into a shield. by the end of ck he’s building himself new emotional strength with his bare hands

who is physically stronger?

ohhh man. They’re both noodle boys. Wylan is too smart for exercise. Jesper does his fighting at a 20 metre distance from his target. Jesper is bigger than wylan but most of his size is gangly and delightful and awkward. I think jes could probably still beat wylan in a pinch, but I’m more caught up in how funny it would be to see them try to fight it out

who is more likely to break a bone? 

man I’m tempted to say jesper just bc he seems like he would be...... brittle. I think he gets into scrapes a lot. I think wylan starts to get into p frequent scrapes by nature of being the sixth crow. I think the both of them are so busy worrying about each other’s fights that they neglect their own and trip off a building or smth

who knows best what to say to upset the other? 

I think wylan can be a nasty piece of work when he’s pissed enough. like he may be a silk eared puppy but he’ll chew your shoes and track mud around if you forget to feed him. jesper doesn’t have a malicious bone in his body man, I think he’s a sarcasm queen and a joker but he’s definitely not mean

who is most likely to apologize first after an argument? 

I think jesper’s constantly assuming he did something wrong and he sits down with wylan 100% serious like ‘babe.. im so, so sorry. I never wanted to be the sort of person who made you look sad like that, we’re past that, I truly made a promise--’ and wy would be like ‘what no I was sad bc a screw on my flute is loose and I couldn’t practice today’. but also yeah if it’s a serious fight they make up in a rush, and they laugh at themselves, and they use their energy for something better

booooth -- jesper is understated sad with a side of unnerving frowns, wylan is a wobbling mouth and clenched fists. Sometimes they stay in the Wylan Van mansion and lock the doors so the maids can’t come in, and they bring the lavish decorative pillows into a heap on the carpet and feed each other sweets and rub each others backs and laugh and laugh the darkness away. wylan sketches. jesper poses. there’s scheming & kaz impressions. jesper is a storyteller and he imagines out loud what nina or inej are up to at that very minute, controlling gravity and hearts and the sea and their lives 

who is better at cheering the other up? 

see above ^^ they both go pro at the comfort olympics. Jesper is that little bit better though. He’s a sweetheart with all the right words in his pockets. He knows how to chop wylan’s dad down like the overgrown dead tree that he is. he knows how to flirt a smile onto wy’s face. he maybe lacks delicacy sometimes, but he’s so fun and wholehearted and warm that he can’t really go wrong

who’s the one that playfully slaps the other all the time after they make silly jokes?

this is canon y’all, jesper is a lecherous bastard and wylan is equal parts disdain and delight. he absolutely will slap a boy

who is more streetwise?

god bless wylan but he knows a hell of a lot less about the streets than jes. He’s learning fast by the end of ck, but he’s still very sheltered in a lot of ways. Jesper has a few years under his belt, and he’s.. like tbh he’s a part of a gang so. He’s seen a lot. He’s participated in a lot. He has a pretty steep list of kills, same as every other survivor out there. He’s detached from the deaths but he’s been on the other side of a lot of bullets that have crumpled people up and thrown them in the trash. He knows his business, too. He knows Ketterdam. Well. Wy knows the half of it Kaz wants him to see.

who is more wise?

Wylan is utterly brilliant and Jesper is wholeheartedly here for it. What was that line again? ‘you’re cuter when you’re smart’? Wylan can think his way out of just about anything, the world belongs to him. jsyk

who’s the shyest? 

Wylan absolutely what a sweetie. I mean a lot of it stems from unfortunate self esteem issues and a history of being burnt but a lot of it is pure soul deep candy sweet embarrassment and not knowing what to do w his own cute face. He doesn’t know how to deal w people a lot of the time. he knows sheet music & formulas. he does not know how to look at a boy with beautiful lips all curled up at him and not pass out

who boasts about the other more? 

jesper is loudmouthed usually and he’s that much more loudmouthed when he’s in love, catch him talking to anyone who will listen about wy’s stupid face 

who sits on who’s lap? 

jesper would definitely try it, don’t even test him, he would fold all his crane limbs into wylan’s lap and say ‘hello peaches’ and wylan would have to slide both of them onto the floor to escape his embarrassment. on a good day, jes’ll scoop wylan into his lap and he’ll feel quiet, for a while
