I also have a list of MCR’s 2022-2023 tour if you also want to check that out! Anyways ty Mikey and Chris for starting this list off 11 months early 😭
MCR @ WWWY
Hey Chris commented a sunset emoji under Mikey’s post that announced day 2 of WWWY, referring to Pete’s Amazing New Mexico Sunset post from 2005 (writing this on November 17th, 2023- 11 fucking months to go lmao)
Mikey also replied to Chris’ comment
Mikey is also very excited to play Disenchanted! (Love this for him)
Not WWWY but it deserves to be here -> Gerard’s cat costume from Toronto night 2 made it into the show Carol & the End of the World! (Hi it’s January 29th, 2024 as I’m writing this bullet point)
Frank is back on his fortune cookie bullshit (hello it’s March 18th, 2024 as I’m writing this)

in anticipation of this show i was listening to the black parade is dead literally nonstop for the last several months, and every time i heard gerard explain to the crowd that “this is the last performance of the black parade foreverrrr” and that they’re killing off the alter ego band, it really made me wonder how they’d approach this festival, because to just straight up replicate a black parade performance would (to me at least) feel like going back on that black parade is dead concept, or cheapen it somehow. because it really was a big deal back then AND so fucking cool!!! the live album came with a death certificate and everything (at least mine did) and that was it, death is irreversible, they’re gone!! so idk i was pretty convinced they’d stick to their guns about it, if there’s one thing about my chem i’ll always have faith in is their artistic vision & integrity, so i didn’t really see them pulling out their black parade jackets for this performance, even as zombies or whatever (which would feel too similar in idea to their old revenge outfits from the first wwwy? no?). which left the question of what they’d actually do!! at the festival, my friend and i got pretty close to the front (like 4 ppl away from barrier, a bit off the side from ray’s spot) and i was watching the techs set up the stage while fob played, and when i noticed there were no stage props, no parade floats, nothing but the screen, i was like okay this is promising!! then the techs were testing and adjusting the lights, and i was really getting excited!! looked cool and theatrical, but holy crap, the performance itself was crazy!! the band’s larger than life shadows flashing and overlapping, and the music, and the audio effects in between songs, it was haunting and ethereal!! i wasn’t online at all yesterday, so idk how everyone else read it, but to me it read as the black parade remains dead, ghosts or shadows frantically playing their songs in a white void (afterlife?) minimalist but impactful, no gimmicks, just the band and the music and the atmosphere. holy shit it was genius.

Did frank see you?
yea so basically we decided to do barricade for dunes at adjacent bc we dont have vip for the tour so this is like our only chance for dunes barricade for a while, plus it was only 4 hours from doors til they went on which is like NOTHING compared to when we did barricade for my chem at riot fest and wwwy. 4 hours is so easy. also i wouldnt wait 13 hours for dunes ANYWAY lets make that clear.
but anyway during dunes set frank didnt like acknowledge us or make eye contact which is like kind of normal, even at his solo shows he rarely opens his eyes or looks out at the crowd. like obviously he would sometimes, like when he talks to the crowd he doesnt do it with his eyes closed. but like franks eyes being closed while onstage or not looking at the crowd is pretty normal. which is interesting that i got like so much eye contact on mcr tour but i thought aboiut it over the weekend and i think its bc mcr tour was arenas. and like when youre playing small venues like ive seen frank and dunes in, you can see everyone. and i think like one of the reasons he doesnt look out much is due to anxiety ygm. he still gets nervous :( but like in an arena its kind of just like a black abyss out there past the view of the stage lights and you can just make out the first row or so, so he was more prone to looking out from time to time and making eye contact with people.
BUT ANYWAY. so the band that was on the dunes stage before dunes was off! which was like. really strange vibe. the WHITE singer had dreads down past his knees. their setlist was three pages long...and like he was insulting the crowd and saying we had as much energy as senior citizens 😭 but because dunes were on that stage after them thats when all the guys and their crew started milling around backstage and stuff and we could see them obv cause it was broad daylight. but no frank.....until he came like around the corner at one point. and like its like omg frank :D is right there. but you dont want to stare. but he was watching the band and started taking either pics or a video and the angle he was taking them at like obviously it was of the band, but it had a direct view of me and my friends on barricade. so maybe he clocked us as being there on his side of the stage barricade....bc he knows who we are and we clearly didnt know the band that was playing lmao. idk.
BUT THEN. later that night i was high as fuck watching the succession finale while my friend tattooed a jalapeño on my leg and someone revealed to us that the singer with the like 4 foot white dreads was in fact keith morris. of black flag. who frank cornered in a convenience store in la and made him do backing vocals on hang em high which are in the song but the mixing was done so that they are fully indiscernible and no one has ever heard them. and i was like whaaaaatttttt the fuck......really crazy stuff

(admin stuff includes : today is July 31st, 2024. I've been having this theory in some form since early in 2023, like about the month after the Return Tour completed in Japan. And it's finally come time to write down my potential prescience. I also want the record to show that in an effort not to shove my potential theory into the fandom's circuit, I'm posting this privately for now. I will make this public either after WWWY2 has finished, if my theory becomes the collective one before then, or if my theory is disproven before the time in which I have theorized.)
All said, there's a prerequisite understanding going into this. You must be willing to buy into the idea that MCR5 is Real and it is Coming. If you have that prerequisite met, other helpful things to have include
Knowing some MCR lore, broadly
Being aware of the specific ways MCR has been opaque and cryptic in the history of the band. Good examples include the lead-up to the Return announcement
The sheer time scale at which they Plan these things
Can't hurt to also know about Gerard's old interviews in which they talked frequently about the ways the Smashing Pumpkins influenced the trajectory of the band, and the ways that this directly contributed to the tinhatting of the fandom in the Hiatus Period
All to say, I believe that I'm being backed up by the methods that MCR have often taken to breadcrumb about their plans in ways that are effective, but only if you have a certain level of colloquial understanding of their particular style of dropping breadcrumbs. Which, in my experience, is a long haul sort of thing - less 100-meter-dash, more cross-country-marathon. Like the aforementioned Smashing Pumpkins inspo being used as the foundation for why exactly MCR would definitely be reuniting in 2019 - the original interviews mostly happened between 2007-2009 iirc, and that's still easily a year ahead of when the breakup really happened.
So. My theory, which is dated in its current iteration to this moment (but I'll backdate my officially going hard into it back to Halloween 2023 because I think that's about the time I realized how much the breadcrumbs of it all impacted my opinion here) begins with, duh, MCR5 is happening. I believe it, I Know it, and I won't be discussing the decade and a half of knowledge I'm using to make the claim, you just have to accept it. It's happening. The when and where are the big question marks, much the same way that pretty much everything about What's Next With MCR are also huge question marks.
I think I know the answer is what I'm saying. All this big preamble exists just to say, I think I know when and where and all the rest of the answers. I think I've known since... Ok I guess it's actually November 17 2023.
Theory : I believe MCR was a driving force behind the addition of Day 2 of WWWY Festival. I believe that the box office draw of this band gave them plenty of social currency they could leverage into legitimately getting a bunch of festival organizers to add a second day. I think the only caveat any reasonable event coordinator might have would be that the first date would have to sell out first before a second day could be added. I also think MCR aren't stupid and collectively were Aware that their presence at the festival would absolutely bring those sales through the roof.
I think they've had this plan since at least the Australian/Japanese leg of the Return, in some form. I think they may have finessed and altered it, may have even intentionally delayed it due to Frank's side time with LS Dunes - and perhaps a mosaic of other factors I don't have access to or knowledge of. But I think the plan is as follows with regard to what Will Happen. MCR will take the stage on Day 1 of WWWY2 and they will play The Black Parade, start-to-finish. They Will Not play the stage show that they killed in Mexico, in fact I'm willing to bet they will undersell their own theatricality for Day 1. This is important and intentional. I am willing to bet they will fill the time with B-Sides if needed - maybe even mixing the B-Sides with the original release. That wouldn't surprise me. The point is, I believe they will at least play KAYF and All The Angels. I Don't think they'll play anything from other eras on Day 1. But I'd argue that if they do, it'll be as an encore, a 3-piece-set encore. Blood isn't part of the encore by the way in this version of the set. Either it's the final song of an encore that's just their most loved B Sides after the entirety of Black Parade, or, it's the last song before an encore of 3 songs - Vampires Will Never Hurt You or Skylines and Turnstiles as the first, Helena, You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us, or TYFTV as the second, and Kids for the third. I'm willing to concede I have strong preferences for specific picks, but I also don't think it matters what is done there - I think what matters is, it'll be a 3-song encore set that the band finds emblematic of each of the Non-Black-Parade eras. Who knows, it could be all Non-Album Tracks. An encore could even just not happen - very like them, in some way. The point is, my theory is, Day 1 of WWWY2 is about being a prelude to Day 2, and underselling themselves in that prelude.
I think at the end of Day 1's set, the official site will be updated - next 5 tour dates will appear, or some other announcement if they're feeling generous, something cryptic à la the Return teaser if they're not. Again, this is a prelude - all window dressing, actually. It's why I think they're going to undersell their theatrical bent for this performance.
I think it'll cause uproar, of course, because people will wanna know why they went so Under Expectation, underperforming, whatever. I think the girlies and gays will be rightly Irate at the Horrors for the performance on Day 1. I think it'll be exactly what they said it would be right down the line, and the MCRmy collectively will be Upset. But hopeful.
I think day 2 will be insane.
You see, I remember exactly where I was when Foundations dropped, and I think that's the level of warning they intend to give for anything that comes next. It's not that they didn't leave breadcrumbs for Foundations, it's that until it had actually blindsided the collective MCRmy, nobody had the answer for what those breadcrumbs added up to, just a lot of guesses.
Day 2: they will open the performance 'as usual' with The End and, likely, Dead!. Maybe they'll be really cheeky as it were and get through Welcome To The Black Parade, but I think they'll monopolize their time, so they'll start like they did the night before, but with more theatricality (either marginally or overtly). I also think that by either the end of Dead! or WTTBP, The Thing will have dropped online. My hope and strongest theory is, no warning, they will drop MCR5 in its entirety online and then proceed to perform it in its entirety with the remainder of their set.
(Alternatively, they will still perform the whole thing, but the online drop will be a complete list of tour dates, and/or album announcement.
Otherwise, I could see an Ultimate Greatest Hits Mashup as the set, with either, both, or all being dropped online, either over the course of their set or as one giant Drop at some strategic point during or immediately following their performance.)
What will be dropped, and when, is still a lot of variables based on which breadcrumbs I'm parsing and in what ways I'm analyzing them. My strongest feeling, though, is that Day 2 will neither be a repeat of Day 1, nor will it have anything to do with The Black Parade except in that they're using that as a ... window dressing and prelude to what's Actually Happening. And while I'm willing to concede there's multiple possibilities for what's Actually Happening, I think there's some breadcrumbs that strongly suggest, What's Actually Happening is an album release party that will correctly shatter expectations and cause a collective MCRmy meltdown.
Anyway I kinda look forward to being proven so stupidly wrong, but God can you even Imagine if I were right? Lol

I think that Gerard and Anthony Green should put on their little Cheerleader outfits and spit roast Frank on stage at WWWY this weekend :) it's performance art.... It's social commentary... I think fucking his brain out and filling his holes with their cum would be the perfect stage show. Give the people what they want! I think Frank would agree to do it for political reasons. Being a good ally and all. Also he's a cum slut. The jumbotrons on either side of the stage would be handheld POV shots from Gerard and Anthony. When they are done using him, Ray will give him a sloppy BJ and let him cum cause he's a sweetheart (king of aftercare). Mikey is just standing there playing an ambient baseline turned around towards the drums. He does heart fingers and tosses out pics like normal when the "shows" over. Footage gets released as official Pay Per View. Proceeds go to charity :)

Do you ever think about how if we didn't have the 2019 theory, we could have possibly gotten MCR back sooner? They were together since 2017, and when they announced the comeback, it was late 2019. Most gave up on the theory, and MCR was running out of time to make the prophecy come true. And they said that if the didn't come back now, they never would? If they came back sooner, we could have had concerts sooner, ones not postponed for years. But, if they went on tour as MCR, what happens to all those side projects? What would become of Netflix's adaptation of The Umbrella Academy? And how would that change the lives of everyone who worked on that show? And what about that one piece of fan art I really love? The one someone made for Baby Your A Haunted House? Would we have even gotten Foundations of Decay? If MCR came back sooner, would WWWY have even existed? The nostalgic emo renaissance would be happening in a different timeline, one BEFORE TikTok! Aka, before the nostalgia trend had existed, fueled by a desire to go back to the 2000s. My Chemical Romance is a big deal, them coming back when they did has an impact we cannot fathom. And what if they waited so long because of us? Do you ever think about how we alter the course of history in unfathomable ways?

I'm with you, op. Sure, there's arguments for both sides to be made and I totally agree that the second show felt like a goodbye, but at the same time, I just don't see MCR having their last show at wwwy. It would be kind of poetic, with the name and all, but with all that I've seen of their opinion on wwwy... I can't imagine that they'd want that to be their last show... And why would they release a song and go on a whole ass reunion tour just to split up again two years later? Unless their plans changed somewhere along the way which is very possible, of course. But if there's spontaneous changes going on in the background that we don't know about... idk then we might not be talking about an elaborate plan anymore but something much more unknown and that is not the basis that is currently being used for this discussion. It could all still be very well thought out, even if the potential decision to break up was made just recently. But we're talking about such hypotheticals then, that I personally feel like that there's no point anymore because even now we can just guess until something official is released in either direction.
However, I do think that wwwy fest was meant to be a goodbye, but to a past version of mcr and not the band as whole because it definitely felt like a goodbye to me. Again, there's arguments to be made for both sides and it's a lot for both sides. So much so that I don't really know which side has better arguments because we don't know how MCR intended all their imagery and what we do with it is all just speculation. So really, the only thing we do know for a fact is that they aren't officially broken up, and that means they're still a band. Which is a very long way to say: As long as there's no official statement that says otherwise, MCR is a band in my world.
I also believe MCR5 is real but that's probably because I want to believe it and have given enough evidence (theories and potential hints on why MCR5 is real) that I actually can believe in it. And I also think that that goodbye feeling is for the end of an era and probably even more for the band themselves than anyone else to get closure, which does sound a lot like breaking up the band if I put it like that but it could just as well be that they want to move on from their past and not have the next era of MCR be too connected to the old one. Which is also what Foundations of Decay sounds like to me and it would be very poetic to let go of the past at a festival that is essentially designed for nostalgia.
Anyways, I just wanted to get my thoughts in order after watching both shows and looking at wwwy posts the whole day that probably have also influenced my perception of the shows quite a bit because I looked at tumblr first and then the shows themself. I really hope it was okay to use your post like that, op, and hopefully I added something of value and didn't just ramble on. And maybe I'm just trying to remind myself that MCR isn't broken up until they say so, no matter what it may or may not feel like, and it's no use to be sad about that if it hasn't happened
Can I just say that I lost, regained, lost again but now regained my hope in MCR5??
This last week was really something.
I feel like with the whole L.S. Dunes album, MCR wouldn't release new music because obviously Frank is going to be busy with that. Like that is what made me not believe in it instead of Frank verbally saying that he doesn't think that MCR will ever work on any new music again.
But also, the day after night one of WWWYF I just started thinking to myself, they look like they're really enjoying this and that made me think why wouldn't they want to release new music, or at least tour again??
For the whole year, I had told myself that if MCR5 wasn't announced at When We Were Young, it's not happening. But this morning after watching that livestream, I couldn't even bring myself to be sad about it because I was on such a high from seeing them perform for two nights in a row. It was only until I was in period 3 Spanish which was so fucking boring might I add I don't like my teacher I want my other one back, that I realised that this probably meant no MCR5. Like they seriously looked like they had no intention of doing anything else after this festival from that performance.
But then I just thought to myself again. That whole "gift of music" shit made me think that maybe, just maybe we'll get MCR5. Obviously Gerard was referring to them performing live, but guys I am so fucking delusional and I do genuinely believe it's real. I don't think that Danger Days will be their last ever work, because it just doesn't sit right with me. After what we saw at When We Were Young Festival, the black funeral-looking outfits, the stuff being displayed behind them, I don't think they would want their last work to be something fun and colourful like Danger Days but something more mature and dark. I guess you could argue that's what Foundations is, but I don't think Foundations is enough to sum up this era of MCR.
As well as that, we know they like playing live. Gerard literally said it during the Return tour and Frank mentioned how he thought of MCR headlining Reading & Leeds (oh my god please do, this one I can actually go to) in a kerrang interview in January this year.
Do I think that it's happening any time soon? No. Do I think that it will happen? Yes. Maybe late 2025, 2026.
As for Frank saying that he doesn't think that MCR will make any new music, I quite simply don't believe him, especially after what he said about MCR's return like DO NOT TRUST THIS MAN GUYS
I'm not trying to be pessimistic, and in all honesty, I am praying that MCR's instagram is gonna make a surprise post and tell us that a fifth album is real the next morning, but I really wanted to post this somewhere and I made this blog to yap about my special interest so I'm sorry if this has upset anyone
If anyone has read this far, please leave your opinion in the comments I wanna hear what other people are thinking

As someone going to WWWY (day 1), I’ll be camping out at the stage as of jimmy eat world. Sure yeah there’s bands on other stages id like to see, but I also want to see everything on the main stages so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I don’t feel like I’m actually missing out by sticking around at that stage for hours. You’ll still get plenty of good shows.
Only thing I’m worried about by being close to barricade is a repeat of the crowd situation at riot fest. Was in that pit. Do not want to experience it again.
yea i agree with this. like i think i said, pretty much all of the bands i want to see there are bands ive already seen multiple times. and even if i do stay at barricade all day ill still get to see a bunch of them anyway! i felt like i would be doing myself a disservice by camping for mcr at this festival but now i feel like its what i gotta do. and im gonna get to see a bunch of bands i love in the process. which is different from riot fest. a lot of the bands i saw while waiting all day sucked.
as for the crowd, i think if you stick to either side of the stage you should be fine. i was barricade on franks side at riot fest and i wasnt even crushed at all. i think the worst of it was more in the dead center. but id rather be crushed on barricade than be crushed in the middle of the pit. i can deal with being pushed up against it but not having it to hold onto is way worse. if you're not on barricade i would suggest going over to either side and it should be more chill over there.

i keep thinking about the new context that wwwy added to the interpretation of the demolition lovers being two parts to the same person and the demo man killing his lover as a way to suppress her side of himself (i wrote about this once before, but i can't find the thing to link) so i wrote a shitty essay about it instead of doing my homework
to start, we gotta remember that mcr closed revenge night with desert song, the track that gerard wanted to end the album itself with. the studio version is so gut-wrenchingly defeatist that you can hear it without sparing a glance at the lyrics. it claws up your spine and between your ribs and intertwines itself with every vein in your body and then it rips you to shreds slowly and quickly and all at once and you have to stop and wonder if maybe it was doing that all along. it strips your skin away and leaves you raw and bloody and alone and understood. it makes you question yourself- did you fall down? will you make it anyway? even if you have to trudge through your own entrails? how much longer can you lie to yourself? to other people? then it answers one of its own questions- did you come to stare or wash away the blood?- through its desperation: it's clear that nobody is going to clean you off, and everyone is staring. but then you hear the live version. it uses the same lyrics, but this time it sees how fucked up you are and it doesn't shred you anymore. it tells you that yes, you did fall down, and then it helps you up. it knows that sometimes you can't get up on your own, no matter how hard you try, and it sees you on the ground and holds out a hand. it's gentle and loving and still a little lonely, but it refuses to tear you apart again. it's not desperate in the same way anymore. it still peels back your skin, still leaves you raw and bloody, but it cleans you up this time.  this is what they ended with. they could've played i never told you what i do for a living. they could've ended revenge night with the demolition man killing himself because he couldn't live without his feminine counterpart. they could've ended revenge night with his suicide, and they didn't.  at first, i thought this was because he learned to live without her. i thought that he was so distraught over her murder that he was at the worst point of his life, and that he forced himself through it anyway. but after my chem but the demo lovers on that new shirt? i think i was wrong.
they're older this time, but they're together, and i think it's because the demolition man was never supposed to kill himself in the first place. gerard wanted to end three cheers for sweet revenge with desert song. he was supposed to reunite with her and grow old with her, because they were lovers. she was so intertwined with him, but the media wanted nothing to do with it. they wanted a tragedy and they would've gotten one if the band hadn't broken up when they did. during that set, mcr showed us what would've happened if they hadn't let themselves age. if they glorified the nostalgia bullshit. if they ended revenge night with i never told you. they made it clear that would've killed mikey at the very least. they acknowledged the worst part of their lives was the one people had been longing for them to recreate, and then they humiliated them for it.

Tumblr media
All day this photo has been exploding through social media and there are many different opinions on it.
When I woke up this morning, I opened TikTok and the first video I see is someone talking about it. 4 bands on the digital poster instantly caught my eye and as I started reading I seen 13 bands/artists that I love.
Another thing that caught my attention was that Live Nation is presenting it... and if you weren't aware, Live Nation hosted Astroworld late 2021, but that's another topic.
so. Information.
On Tuesday January 18th WWWY posted a flyer about a festival that put a lot of people in a frenzy. Live Nation is presenting a WHEN WE WERE YOUNG Festival for a nostalgia festival for all the "emo kids" that grew up or still currently listen to these bands (guilty). It is a one day 12 hour festival showing 65 bands/ artists on October 22nd 2022 from 11am to 11pm at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds with 3 stages.
I know I am not the only one that has questions.
"The festival almost feels like a desert mirage: Is this too good to be true? Are we in for the emo revival’s own Fyre Festival? Here are five questions we have about the year’s hottest 2000s-nostalgia ticket." -RollingStone.com
1. Is it a hoax?
2. scam?
3. Do the bands know?
4. How are they going to have all of those bands play with only 3 stages in 12 hours?
5. Will they adjust the event?
6. I NEED MORE INFORMATION!
I went to the WHENWEWEREYOUNG.COM and was looking at pricing, ya know to see if it was a realistic thing for me to do, and realized INSTANTLY that it was a little more on the pricy side for a one day festival. Tickets starting at $224.99 USD as of when I am posting.
Presale begins Friday, January 21st at 10am PST
GENERAL ADMISSION
Tier 1 $224.99
Tier 2 $234.99
Tier 3 $244.99

Tier 2 $509.99
Tier 3 $519.99
VIP CABANA

HOTEL AND TICKET PACKAGES

***At the time of posting I have not seen anything from the bands/artists confirming their appearance.
@aSorendino on twitter posted "How are you going to throw a festival called When We Were Young in the The Killers’ hometown and not have The Killers on the list?"
@KittyKat3801 on twitter posted "Missing Fall Out Boy, All Time Low, Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, Blink-182, Green Day, and Evanescence. Then I think it would be complete."
I Set My Friends On Fire on Facebook commented on WWWY post "LISTEN, WHATEVER YOURE PAYING MCR, PAY US HALF AND WE HAVE A DEAL"
@danandshay commented on WWWY Instagram post "ALREADY WAITING IN LINE"
Paramore tweeted "we’ve missed you," on the WWWY tweet
