i genuinely cannot wait to get my hands on the upcoming beats studio3 headphones. here's a super pretentious post on why. lol

as of writing, i am currently wearing a pair of beats studio3 headphones, shadow gray color.

my last pair was a beats studio3 too, but in the now-discontinued porcelain rose color.

on the pair i'm currently wearing, the left speaker often produces a hum that intensifies when near power cables. sometimes that hum turns into static.

not to mention the cheap build quality, tons have talked about that already.

the beats studio3 were originally released in 2017. may not be that long ago, but in tech years, that meant companies were just starting to dump microUSB.

and yet everyone was talking about how the apple watch series 3 needed to be discontinued sooner than it did.

in 2019, during one of my last windowshopping sessions at my local apple store before the pandemic hit, i tried on a pair of beats solo pro headphones.

btw: solo = on-ear studio = over-ear

the sound was a massive improvement over the beats studio3 (i.e. more bass), but that's because it used the H1 chip introduced with the 2nd-gen airpods.

it got discontinued in 2021 because… low sales i guess idk it's the same excuse every fucking time

between then and now, i also had two pairs of airpods max, and in terms of overall experience, there was no comparison. best pairs i had ever tried.

unfortunately, both broke due to condensation: the earcups are easily replaceable, but sweat and water can easily seep under them and into the speakers as a result. they have no water resistance rating.

one of the main criticisms of the airpods max is its price tag: $549 USD. that's two hundred dollars more than the beats studio3.

it would've been the perfect opportunity for apple to be like "hey here's an airpods max lite" and unleash new over-ears with the same specs as the airpods max.

the last few macOS releases were lacking, and to me that moment had meant apple learned to love the mac again.

i feel like they're having that same moment with beats now.

they released the powerbeats pro in 2019, and then the brand kinda fell dead silent (aside from limited edition studio3's in collaboration with artists and designers).

then they reignited the spark with the studio buds, and they've kept the ball rolling since.

Studio

It occurred to me several days ago that my 27-inch, 2017 iMac is now six years old. That’s a really good lifespan, and I’ve certainly gotten my money’s worth out of it. I tricked it out when I got it so that it would last me a long time. MacOS Sonoma, which is expected to release later this year, won’t support it. So, it’s time to upgrade. I’m not interested in the latest iMacs, as they only have 24-inch screens. Luckily, Apple just announced several new models in the WWDC keynote.

I’ll be ordering the new Mac Studio with the M2 Ultra chip. Of course, that means I also need to get a display to go with it, so I’ll be adding a 27-inch Studio Display to the order. It’s going to be pricey, but I’m hoping to take advantage of the installment plan on my Apple Card. I just need to get my credit limit increased first. And I fully expect to get a good six years out of this one.

Unless, of course, we’ve replaced all of our desktops with Apple Vision by then.

iOS 17 Release date, Features, Overview

The iOS 17 upgrade from Apple is under development and will be previewed at WWDC before going live in September 2023.

iOS 17 Overview

The iOS 17 operating system will be released on June 5, which is still a few months away, but because Apple is currently developing the upgrade, we only have a few details at this time. iOS 17 may be more significant than first believed since it will include some of the "most requested features" that customers have been requesting, according to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg. Other potential changes have been mentioned by reputable sources who talked with MacRumors, including revisions to Control Center, active widgets, a redesigned Dynamic Island, and more. Originally intended as a "tune up" update to correct problems and boost speed, iOS 17 will now also contain a few "nice to have features." iOS 17 Features

By moving Siri to the Dynamic Island, on-screen information would remain fully visible without the circular Siri interface that it currently covers up.

Active Widgets

On the iPhone's Home Screen and Today View, Apple is "testing" active widgets, although the functionality is "not confirmed by any means." If used, active widgets may come with one-tap buttons, sliders, and other features that would make them more dynamic and interactive.

Improved Search and Spotlight

The system-wide search and Spotlight features will be much improved, however specifics were not disclosed.

Health App Updates

The Health app will soon be accessible on both the iPhone and the iPad thanks to Apple's expansion to the iPad. A mood monitoring feature will also be available in the Health app, allowing users to monitor their mood, answer questions about their day, and analyze trends over time. Additionally, there will be updated features for people who have vision problems like nearsightedness.

Lock Screen Updates

The Lock Screen may receive some small upgrades, such as the ability to adjust the text size. With a new sharing option for personalized Lock Screens, anyone who develop Lock Screen designs may be able to share them with other iPhone users. In iPadOS 17, it's probable that the iPad may embrace iPhone-style Lock Screen modifications, enabling users to utilize widgets for the Lock Screen, movable wallpapers, a movable clock, and more. According to rumors, Apple Maps' Live Activity interface will be overhauled for the Lock Screen and will fill the whole screen. For applications that clients install through alternative methods, developers would not be required to pay Apple's 15 to 30% fees, although Apple still intends to charge a fee. The sideloading modifications will initially only apply to users in the European Union, but when other nations approve laws resembling the Digital Markets Act in Europe, Apple may broaden the capabilities. Due to the significant engineering changes that must be done in order to provide sideloading capability, iOS 17 development may be impacted.

Beta Limitations

Apple modified how developer and public betas are installed on the iPhone and iPad with iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4. Apple no longer uses profiles to install updates; instead, it now requires an Apple ID that is connected to either a developer account or an account that has registered for the public beta. This change will make it impossible for non-developers to install the iOS 17 beta using a shared developer profile, as each installation will now need authentication via an Apple ID linked to a developer account.

3 reasons why I like using iTunes

On June 2, 2019, it was announced that Apple may be shutting down iTunes and will be replaced with each media (eg: music, movies, podcast) to have their own separate app.

Of course – people thought that the ACTUAL APP will be gone and we’ll no longer be able to access our music anymore (unless it’s through Apple Music).

As I’m writing this, the WWDC is about to happen so it’s until later in the day when I find out what the application’s fate will be. You got to admit, iTunes changed the way we listen to music. With the introduction of the iPod in 2001, it made listening to music more portable and buying music more accessible.

And now, as we wait to hear it’s fate – I shall share why I prefer iTunes over Spotify.

1. iTunes and Limewire

I was introduced to iTunes around the same day I was introduced to Limewire. You know Limewire – that piracy program where you’d risk putting a virus to your computer.

You know – LIMEWIRE

Anywho – my uncle introduced to me both programs. It’s like a symbiotic relationship on where you download music and put them in your device via iTunes.

So by 2010, a year since I got my new laptop and Glee’s Power of Madonna Episode came out, I’ve decided to give Limewire a shot – the same way my uncle taught me.

THAT DIDN’T WORK OUT WELL (luckily my laptop was ok).

What I’m trying to say is that – back before 2010, iTunes and Limewire somewhat had a symbiotic relationship. If you’re broke to buy iTunes gift cards and your iPod was found in the garbage… you had “alternatives”.

Don’t worry – I only used it once and my dad got mad. And from there, I removed the app. Just continued buying CD’s.

2. The Metadata

I’m a freak to knowing my personal statistics (I can go on about this as I studied this in uni). I used to use FitBit in 2016, had money managing and sleep analysis app in 2017.

This is my Top 25 most played songs since 2014. I could have data from 2011 but was young and dumb and lost it all. I soon then learned how to transfer data from one device to another. It’s funny on this can give a basic idea on how I’m like through what I listen to.

The fact Apple Music was integrated into this just made it more interesting and convenient. I didn’t need a new app or lose any of my music and just got my songs in a whim. Some even made it to the Top 25.

Guess which of those songs came from Apple Music.

3. Conveniency

I’m a heavy Apple user since late 2015. And the fact that all my music, apps, podcast, movies, etc were in one place. EVEN THE STORE AND APPLE MUSIC were in that one app!

Yeah… my music taste is really weird… and still is.

I just love how convenient the program was to get my music and other forms of media. There will be a lot of getting used to the new systems if the rumours are true and everything will have its own designated app. I also have a lot of questions about it since I’d like to sync movies to my iPhone X… but only time will tell.

It’s a shame that the program is about to come to the close. Don’t get me wrong, Spotify is good, not gonna lie. I like the Discover Weekly playlist and almost did a research essay about it for university. But I got used to iTunes for a long time and look forward to either learning the new system or saying goodbye to what used to be my go-to music app on my Mac and Windows devices.

Till then, thank you iTunes for your service. Whether it’s putting new songs on my device to making sure that what I actually downloaded in Limewire is an ACTUAL SONG/AUDIO FILE, you will still be my preferred program.
