Em um dia como este, porém em 1945, a Força Expedicionária Brasileira vencia a batalha de Monte Castelo, na Itália, durante a segunda guerra mundial. Constituída em 9 de agosto de 1943, em junho de 1944 embarcou para a Itália a FEB, atuando na Europa conjuntamente com os aliados contra as forças do eixo, realizando diversas missões e auxiliando em várias batalhas, como as tomadas de Massarosa, Camaiore e Monte Prano, porém a mais lembrada, certamente, foi a batalha de Monte Castello por sua acirrada disputa. A batalha de Monte Castello se arrastou por três meses, as defesas alemãs estavam muito bem postas, com posição privilegiada. O tempo também foi um fator que atrapalhou nos ataques, mas após sucessivas investidas, sendo a última ofensiva chamada de operação Encore, o exército brasileiro conquistou a posição alemã com grande empenho. Ao todo o Brasil enviou cerca de 25.000 combatentes, até o fim da guerra na Europa as batalhas ceifaram as vidas de mais de 450 desses combatentes.
