“Well…you’re talking to the result of such an experiment,” Kaito admits. “Or more like…the result of a series of such experiments.” he adds in a quieter tone, finding that his boots are more interesting at the moment.

“I…don’t really know the exact details myself since it happened when I was young, but looking back, I think those researchers were trying to see if it was possible to create more Resonators, or as close to one as possible.” Kaito explains, allowing his words to sink in for a while.

“I was told that I was lucky to have lived so long and not have any other bad effects than sensory overload.”

[‘He doesn’t need to know about the mental breakdowns.’ Kaito tells himself.]

“The doctors believe that my Forte-awakening negated the other potential side effects.”

[‘Who knows what other hidden side effects there are.’ he adds cynically in his mind.]

“I guess those low-lives somewhat achieved their goal in the end.” Kaito laughs bitterly, his empty hand digging hard into the rock they sat on.

Upon hearing Jiyan’s question, Kaito looks to him in surprise before his eyes soften, grateful for Jiyan’s sympathy.

“Those guys are long dead. No one will be experimenting on any more people for sure.” Kaito reassures Jiyan, his hand moving to pat Jiyan’s shoulder.

Jiyan listens closely, his jaw tightening and his nostrils flaring slightly as he processes Kaito's words. His fists clench momentarily, the knuckles turning white, but his face remains composed, a byproduct of his discipline as a general and a medic.

“Kaito,” he begins, his voice calm but edged with a controlled intensity, “I can't even begin to imagine what you've been through. The fact that you endured such horrific experiments and came out the other side speaks volumes about your strength.” His muscles tense under the weight of his barely contained anger, but he keeps his tone steady, focusing on Kaito.

“You’re right; those researchers are gone, and no one will ever put you or anyone else through that again,” Jiyan assures him, his gaze steady and unwavering. “But what they did to you is unforgivable. If there’s any justice, it’s in the fact that you’ve survived and become stronger despite them.”

Jiyan’s hand moves to cover Kaito’s where it digs into the rock, his touch firm but gentle. “I cannot fathom what you've been through. But if you ever need a friend to listen to your story, I will be here." His eyes lock onto Kaito’s, a silent promise of support and solidarity. “You’re not alone in this, and you never will be.”

"Do you think I'm good?" Ah, the tell-tale question that becomes the befall of many too naïve and brash. What seems to be an innocent query can quickly turn from simple curiosity to unshackled bloodlust. To those who cannot take the time out of their day to be kind to a wandering child, nothing good befalls them - as they all will crumble in the face of the revelry of the new world.

"Do you think I'm good?" Yoi asks, every single time, with shining eyes and a wide smile. Sometimes, she will receive a "yes" for an answer. Those days are the best! She loves it when the strangers are kind enough to confirm that she is the best child.

However... today is not a good day, it seems.

The smell of iron and copper lingers heavy in the air. Countless bodies of Exiles litter the area, like stray leaves in an autumn breeze. Their blood seeps into the soil, feeding the plants and the nature that will make more use of them than society ever could. Not that Yoi cares, of course. Society will one day fall and crumble to the wonderful rebirth.

Yoi will watch it happen. She will be very pleased when it does.

For now, though, she sits in the middle of the carnage, very happily sitting in the arms of a Tacet Discord. It's shaped like a Fox, with the typical ears, tail, and face - yet it stands like a human, holding her in its paws. Their legs dangle as they giggle, seemingly unfazed by the blood seeping into her black dress. She holds her fox plushie in her arms, humming to herself.

"Mister Fox, do you think I'm good?" They ask, leaning their head back to stare up at the Tacet Discord.

The Tacet Discord nods once, then twice. Yoi cheers, pumping their fist up into the air. "Yay! I'm the best child, then! As always, Yoi is the bestest best child~"

However, their happy cheers die down in a moment as something rustles. It could be far off, it could be close, but there was something - there was something... A new friend? Has someone come to play?
