     he’s leaning on the balcony railing, a cigarette slowly burning away between his fingers, occasionally sped up by a sharp inhale at the other end of the filter. it’s still early, the sky dark with only a rim of red around the buildings on the horizon, and warren can’t quench that feeling of hopping over the balcony’s edge and disappearing, even if it’s only for a few minutes. it’s so in his system.      ‘can’t feel lonely if you just don’t make friends.’ the cigarette butt is shot into the dark, sizzling out in a puddle, and he slowly turns around, arms crossing as he watches betsy in the yellow-lit motel room, finding her things while wearing one of warren’s shirts. the back is gathered together with a hairband so it resembles somewhat of a normal piece of clothing, and the angel can’t help but chuckle. always a solution for everything, isn’t there? ‘i’m not lonely. you know that, right?’ he’s always been good at lying, and betsy’s always been good at sniffing out his lies, but she doesn’t say anything.      ‘but i guess i like your company, anyway.’ he trails back inside, the sliding door rattling as his wing trails along it, and arms loop around betsy’s waist, nose burying in her dark hair. ‘you can stay another night if you want.’

Die Wundertüte = literally “wonder bag” or “miracle bag”, as in surprise packet, goody bag, grab bag, jamboree bag, mystery bag. A bag full of goodies, usually a collection of random things, in which you do not know what you are buying and get a surprise when opening the bag. As kids, we bought these at the kiosk (a sort of mini convenience store) or got them at kiddie birthday parties.

Ich hoffe, dass Boris Johnson englischer Prime Minister wird und aus der EU austritt - wenn nötig auch ohne Vertrag.

Dann ist diese leidige Geschichte der von Anfang an unpassenden EU-Mitgliedschaft Großbritanniens endlich zu Ende: Besser ein Ende mit Schrecken als ein Schrecken ohne Ende - das man bei einer Scheidung - und das ist eine Scheidung.

Das wird der EU einen Dämpfer versetzen.

Es fragt sich auch, wer (mehr) Schaden nimmt: Entgegen aller Schreibarbeiten der NZZ et al: es wird die EU, es wird vor allem Deutschland sein. Die deutschen Medien haben sich geradezu überschlagen mit düstersten Prognosen betreffend Grossbritannien und Hasstiraden gegen die Brexiteers.

“        Oh come on,  trust me it’s gonna be  GREAT,        ”            he  says excitedly,  glancing over his shoulder as he steps up the one step to the short stage.  Damn he  l o v e s  karaoke.  Especially with a duet partner,  r e g a r d l e s s of whether it was to  show off,  or just have a good time.  But only then as he looks over does he notice the glimmer of  second thoughts  in her eyes.  The smile on his face falters slightly and he turns around,  dropping back down the step to move closer to her.  An attempt to keep things as  private  as you can in a karaoke bar full of  people.                  “        Trust me,  it’s really not scary once you get up there.  It’s just a straight up  b l a s t,      ”                 Danny promises,  his smile soft,  eyebrows pulled together slightly in mild concern.  Some of it with his concern that she was about to  b a i l  on him,  but mostly because the last thing he wanted to do was push for her to do it only to  r u i n  karaoke  for her.  The idea of that itself was enough to further shrink the excitement on his face,  despite the hope that still   g l i m m e r s   there.  After all,  something had prompted her to say yes to begin with.

Kuba ist eine Wundertüte, tagsüber ein hässliches Entlein, nachts ein stolzer Schwan. Nacht für Nacht bewundere ich das berauschende Zusammenspiel eines Dutzend Musikers, die punktgenau ihre Einsätze geben. Dazu Schwirren meisten noch eine handvoll Tänzer über die Bühne ohne das jemals jemand zusammenstösst. Alles funktioniert perfekt! Nie gibt es Pannen.

Tagsüber hingegen ist es unmöglich, dass auch nur ein einziger Handwerker rechtzeitig erscheint oder eine Arbeit ansatzmässig fachgerecht ausführt. Ohne ein Dutzend Anrufe, SMS und persönliches Besuche wird kein kubanischer Handwerker jemals bei der Arbeit erscheinen. Termine werde wochenlang auf “Manñana” verschoben. Erscheint jemand endlich zur Arbeit, setzt man sich am Besten direkt daneben, überwacht und korrigiert. Setzte nichts als gegeben voraus, Kuba belehrt Dich eines besseren! Hier werden fröhlich Steckdosen* in der Dusche montiert und Gas in löchrichen Plastikleitungen statt in gasdichten Metalleitungen verlegt, einfach weil es bequemer ist.

Klar kommt da Neid auf jeden musikalischen Direktor auf: Wieso nur schafft er es seine zahllosen Künstler mühelos zu dirigieren, während für mich schon das Erscheinen eines Handwerkeres ein Erfolg ist.

Doch ich schlauer Fuchs habe bereits einen teuflischen Plan! Demnächst erzähle ich meinem Schreiner, Maler, Sanitär und Plattenleger, dass ich sie Teil einer weltberühmten Salsaband sind. Ab sofort ist jeder Handwerkereinsatz eine “musikalische Probe” für das angebliche “grosse Konzert” von nächstem Monat.

Wetten, dass zum ersten Mal alle pünktlich erscheinen und die aufgetragene Arbeit professionel erledigt wird?!

Immer wieder samstags um 22:00 Uhr präsentiert Female Fronted Metal Of Europe auf Dark-Metal-Radio die “Wundertüte”. Niemand ausser dem FFMoE-Team weiß, welche Bands zu hören sein werden. Das macht es besonders spannend.
