wait stay by my side is good??? and no one told me??? or maybe i keep confusing stay by side and stay with me lol

as someone who is all caught up on both shows - they're both fun 😄

this ask is from three days ago when I talked about how stay by my side (taiwanese show about a boy who can hear ghosts and the guy who gives him a break through touch) had a very fun sixth episode. i wasn't into the show that much but ep.6 gave me some heart-fluttering moments and cute angst that I neither took seriously nor disliked - it was fun for me because of the execution, the fact I don't take anything happening in the show to heart and because the show is short enough so I sensed a resolution was coming very soon 😁

now ive seen episode 7 as well and I can say 6 is definitely my fave. the conflicts are predictable, theres nothing really new but thats what goves you the safe feeling - you dont risk breaking your heart watching it haha. i'd recommend this in case you want a quick sweet watch with "cute silly boy denying his feelings" and "cold rude guy turned passionate suitor". it's the lightest watch i've seen in a while and it's my palette cleanser these days (everything I watch is angsty apparently and the angst supreme™️ trio of loa, of and dr hasn't even reared its ugly head yet lol)

stay with me (the og title of which I find real cute: "gege, don't run") is as far as I know a remake of addicted - a chinese bl that was Very direct in regards to what it's about and therefore got canceled AND banned and the main actors - banned from interacting with each other on tv or at public events for years; I thought swm would be a story set in the same universe or smth but as I watched the first episode I kept getting deja vu until I realised it's the same plot lol

it's about two teens whose dad and mom, respectively, got together - the boys claim to hate each other before they even meet, then fate brings them together without them recognizing each other and shenanigans ensue. it's about found family, finding common ground with parents you can't communicate with, about forgiveness and acceptance. the characters are very lovable <3 the crew is doing their best fighting censorship so it's very clear that the couple are not just bros. they can't, however, do what addicted did so many might prefer the 2016 show. I, personally, was not a fan of the mains in that - wu bi is too possessive for me in this version but his predecessor was Something Else

it's a very standard modern mainland china show. the reason im mentioning this is because of clips on tt and having not seen a cdrama in a while, i had the impression itd be more like a taiwanese or korean bl. the editing, dubbing, bizarrely cut scenes - nothing new in cdrama land. i was wondering if I would recommend it but I think I would, yes. some coincidences and plot points are just so beyond belief that you'd roll your eyes but it's not smth unheard of when it comes to asian dramas haha and I think you'd get so caught up in the angst, domesticity and hunting down hints spread around like easter eggs that you just won't mind the convenient plots (if you would care bout such a thing in the first place)

I'm doing a bad job at promoting this show but I do want more people to see it. the cast is perfect imo (..except for duo duo, I'm sorry but that bby cannot act..her face and aura suit the character though), the sets are all amazing (I like the school, I like su yu's home, I like the shared space later on etc.etc., all decor is very well picked and pleasant to the eye) and the moral of the story is heartwarming, its execution too.

you get passionate hot-headed athletic rich boy who's crazy for his equally smitten furrow-browed genius humble guy - they both value family and each other very much and are willing to do everything for those close to them. it's very endearing and their dynamic is swoonworthy, they're a complete power couple.

(also, spoiler, you get enemies to friends to lovers which is pretty neat)(the spark is there from day 1 tho)

EDIT: i wrote this before the final two episodes were released so disclaimer - POST FINALE SPOILER: if you don't like open endings, esp distressing ones, i don't advise you watch it now - better wait for a secure second season

But of course, the world was a cruel place, leaving the immortal nothing but a barren rock to live his sad eternity on. 

Despite the people’s celebratory gifts, this day was always one of sorrow for Morax. He had only experienced a few decades of imprisonment on this rock, yet somehow Zhongli felt so, so very old. This day only ever reminded him of what he’s lost, of what he will never have again. To be fair, almost everything reminded him of his Tartaglia, from the waters of earth to the orange of the sun. More than anything, these things reminded him of his biggest mistake.

There was nothing in this that the moon god regretted more than his reckless action that got him stuck on this barren rock, never to see the face of the one he loved again. 

The day that ruined Zhongli’s life had been a beautiful day, one of the most beautiful days he had ever seen. The skies were a vibrant blue, streaks of puffy white clouds dotted throughout the sea of blue, the sunlight warm and bright. He had planned on proposing to Tartaglia that day He had everything prepared, an elaborate basket of luxurious gifts for the other man’s family, as well as a lovingly self-crafted pair of matching dangly earrings, for each of them. Zhongli unconsciously brushed his hand over his ear, toying with the rare orange jade bead at the end of his. 

He had been waiting for Tartaglia to return home from an assignment when one of his own students had broken into his house, looking for the small potion of immortality Tartaglia had received for shooting the excess suns out of the sky. His Tartaglia had always been an adept warrior, being proficient in nearly every weapon. Zhongli smiled to himself, wishing he could see the way Tartaglia bounced on his toes before every right, his face stretched into a broad grin, ready for the rush of adrenaline that every fight gave him. 

Zhongli had always loved teaching, wanting to impart his knowledge and wisdom on the next generation of bright minds. He would never forget the look of horror his student wore when Zhongli angrily shoved a spear through their stomach, snatching the elixir out of weakening hands and downing it in one gulp. It wasn’t until Tartaglia returned home shortly after the incident when Zhongli realized what he had done. He remembered how Tartaglia’s eyes had widened, his voice calling out for him, but Zhongli could already feel himself floating away, becoming weightless, as if he had become a spirit. The distraught cries from his love that morphed into sobs, calling his name, begging him to stay, telling him he loved him These cries would forever ingrain themselves into his memory. The elixir would have let them be happy and together forever. Instead, it separated the two of them for the rest of time.

Every year on this day, he would talk into the sky, hoping that maybe, one day, Tartaglia would hear him. Hoping that maybe one day he could see him smile, hear him laugh again. This year was no different. Zhongli busied himself in the kitchen, preparing some of Tartaglia’s favorite foods. He would eat a bite of each dish before leaving the rest as offerings to whatever greater powers lay above him, asking them for mercy, for freedom for this barren rock. Though, behind all of these, he would always ask to see his love, one last time. 

Please, Celestia. This is all I can offer for you. Please, I’d like a way off this rock, freedom from my past mistakes. He looked off into the distance, at the painting he had done of Tartaglia. Please, I’d like to see Tartaglia again. Please.

Years like this one passed. Years became decades, and decades became centuries. Time passed quickly for the immortal, and though it may pass fast, it had no end. Every year, Morax asked the same things of Celestia. Every year, he received no response. He had grown so very tired. 

On his 8880th mid-autumn festival, he awoke to see a sharp periwinkle dagger wrapped in silver silks sitting on the edge of his bed. He carefully unwrapped the fabric to reveal a beautifully carved glaze lily embedded on the handle. A small piece of paper fell out of the wraps, peaking Zhongli’s interest. He carefully set the dagger down onto his bed, picking up the small slip. 

A note, written in elegant, looping, traditional Liyuen. It read: Morax, your prayers have been heard. Celestia sends its regards as well as apologies for taking so long to process your request. Take this dagger as the key to the next journey in your life, where the one you love is waiting. It has been enchanted so there will be no pain. However, if you decide to take this chance, do know that it is irreversible. Do as you wish with it, take the chance or do not. 

I hope you find your peace, Zhongli.

The note was not signed, but somehow Zhongli felt as though he knew the person who had written the note. “Thank you.” he croaked out, his voice rough from lack of use. His hands shaking, he picked up the dagger once more. It was the perfect weight, a perfect balance of light yet solid. It had been, well, ever since he had come onto this rock since he had held a weapon. Not a weapon, a key. A chance. Hope. 

He took a walk around the empty palace where he had lived in solitude for thousands of years, as if saying goodbye. It was a goodbye he was happy to say. He retrieved the hand carved wooden box containing his most prized possession from it’s secret location, securing it in his pocket. He carefully rolled up the scroll containing the image of a smiling Tartaglia and slipping that into another pocket, scared that if he did see Tartaglia again, that Zhongli wouldn’t be able to recognize him. 

He stared down at the dagger in his hands, his fingers curling around the elegant glaze lily. He felt his grip grow tighter, then he felt his hands start to shake. Taking a deep breath, he closed his eyes. He was ready to leave this barren place behind. I will see you again, Tartaglia.

As promised, the blade brought him no pain.

Zhongli opened his eyes to see an ethereal forest, the trees not quite opaque, as if they weren’t quite there. He looked down to see the beautiful blade that had been gifted to him stained with golden blood. He wasn’t bothered by the golden blood, for it was the blood of immortals after all. He was however, awed by the trees he saw. He hadn’t seen vegetation in what felt like years, not having to eat food in order to sustain himself after ascending to godhood, saving human food for very special occasions. 

He looked around, though he didn’t see anyone. Where the one you love is waiting, the note had said. Zhongli wandered around the forest for what felt like days, looking for a head of bright orange hair or a pair of deep ocean eyes. He saw neither. Had the sender lied? He couldn’t help but lose a little bit of hope, though wherever he was now was still certainly better than the hellhole of a rock he had resided on for millennia. He took a deep breath of the fresh air, feeling more and more energetic by the moment. 

Say something. His brain told him. He was running out of options, so he did as his inner monologue asked. Clearing his throat, he recalled the song he would sing to his Tartaglia. Humming the first few lines to get warmed up, his hope growing with every beat. 

“Xu ni sheng shi shi, wu jue qu de ai,” His voice shook as he switched from his native Liyuen to lover’s Snezhnayan. “Always and forever, in this heart of mine…” The forest was silent. Zhongli felt his heart shatter, not wanting to accept that he really would never see his Tartaglia again. He knelt on the ground, his hand clutching the blade of the dagger, a cascade of golden blood dripping onto his spotless black-gold hanfu. He wished he could feel the sharp pain of the cold blade biting into his skin. 

“Xu ni sheng sheng shi shi, wu jue qu de ai,” 

Zhongli had never stood faster in his entire life, the dagger falling to the ground, forgotten. His eyes widened as the familiar face of his beloved appeared from behind a tree. He stood stunned. The sender didn’t lie.

The sun seemed to illuminate the younger boy, his orange hair glowing golden, his typical gray ensemble billowing in the breeze. Zhongli had never seen such a beautiful sight in his thousands of years of existence. “Always and forever, in this heart of mine… longer than the heavens, and the stars that shine…”

Zhongli and Tartaglia both rushed forward at the same time, the orange haired boy taking the other’s bleeding hand in his, while Zhongli gently placed his uninjured hand on his lover’s face. “Xiang si qing nan nai, yuan yu ni tong zai,”

They both broke out into smiles filled with grief and disbelief, their voices shaking as they finished the verse together. “I am yours, I am yours, forever”

Collapsing into the other man, Zhongli let himself cry. “Tartaglia I-”

He felt strong arms hug him tighter, only making Zhongli sob harder. “Shh it’s okay, I’m here now. You’re here now.” Tartaglia had begun to cry too, having fallen to the ground with Zhongli, the two a tangle of limbs and tears. 

“I love you so much.” Zhongli choked out, letting more and more of his years and years of pain and loneliness fade away with every moment in the other boy’s arms. 

Tartaglia kissed Zhongli through teary eyes, trying to convey the words he couldn’t say in the action. “I’ve never stopped loving you, even after all these years. I love you, Zhongli. So much. Please, don’t be an idiot again and cause us another eight-thousand years of separation. I don’t think I can go through that again.”

Zhongli laughed through a sob, placing a kiss on Tartaglia’s cheek. “I’m not going anywhere, I promise.” He pulled out the box he had carried around with him since he had been banished to the moon. Carefully, he pulled out the other earring he had crafted all those years ago, the same shape and pattern as the singular one Zhongli himself wore. “Tartaglia, would you be mine forever?”

“Only if you’re mine forever" He responded, the biggest shit-eatting grin on his face. 

Zhongli nodded solemnly, completely serious in his consideration of the agreement. “That is a fair contract.”

Tartaglia laughed before kissing Zhongli again. “It was a joke, of course I’ll be yours.”

He dipped his head down, allowing Zhongli to attach the earring to his ear. Perfect. Zhongli couldn’t help but think. The blue jade matched his eyes perfectly, just as Zhongli’s earring matched his own amber eyes. “Forever?”

“Forever."

Upon rereading tgcf, one of the biggest complaints I have is how lackluster all the extra chapters were. literally none of them were good and all contained rlly gross and harmful sentiments (like the amnesia one which.. yea.. or all the things implying xl should get pregnant for hc thus equating gay relationships with hetero ones and playing into the wife thing and just GOD I HATE MXTX) 

There were a lot of little plot points i wish that had been further elaborated on more in the extras as opposed to hualian being ... like that. I had enough. Like mdzs had actaully good extras (minus the incense burners) that were nice side stories that elaborated more on the characters. Like the hook one with the juniors was so cute and i loved seeing them grow more. Or the lotus pod extras omg.. im such a lotus pod extra stan. those were so cute and gave us a lot of good insight into just how lovestruck lwj was during the times when he didn’t see wwx. mxtx should've stuck to those sorta extras in tgcf but NOOO. SO I have a list of so many other more interesting things those chapters couldve been spent on like:

A resolution on He Xuan’s revenge and his character arc. Bc its implied He Xuan is still hanging out and watching over sqx and that taking revenge didn’t fully satisfy him bc ok.. yea shi wudu is dead but he xuans family will never come back. Now what does he have to live for?? i wish we couldve seen a look into his life during the entire ordeal. like a chapter from his perspective while he was posing as Ming Yi  and maybe a look at a conversation btw he xuan and the real ming yi or a chapter after SQX was banished to see what he’s doing now. Also what did he xuan owe hua cheng money for anyways?? Like ik not every little thing has to be explained but I Want to Know. PLEASE more goth boyfriend content now I just wanna see him :,((

a better resolution of yin yu and quan yizhens storyline. im still mad abt how that plot point was split btw books 3 and 5  when it was rlly out of place and  there were other more pressing plot matters and it just rlly deserved more time. Also i thought yin yu died!?!?!? but apparently one of the extras says he’s alive and man... i;m not reading any more of the extras to see that, give me a full yin yu and quan yizhen chapter.. fuck.

a day in the life of the guoshi fangxin or general hua PLEASE especially like one where hua cheng was SO CLOSE to meeting xie lian but had no clue that xie lian was there at the time but the two did smth that inadvertantly helped the other and they still were connected even though they hadnt met omg pls that’d be so nice. like imagine Hua cheng catching a glimpse of the guoshi in public in yong’an while he’s trying to follow some lead that points to xie lian or maybe following a lead to capture qi rong bc he said he knew qi rong was a part of the yong’an stuff and originally thought the guoshi was one of qi rongs pawns. like can you IMAGINE him getting so close. but at the last second he did smth small that impacted xie lian. like they bumped into eachother on the street or smth. god i’d go crazy

OR vice versa.. like a day in the life of the young ghost king hua cheng. Like again, one of my biggest issues was that hua cheng just knew everything and its never really explained how he got all of that info. like yes he’s been alive very long and has eyes and ppl working for him everywhere but like... how did he build that network?? I’d love to see a chapter of young ghost king hua cheng travelling around trying to learn as much as he can abt the world and how it can help bring him to xie lian. and the two maybe are in the same kingdom for a bit and they don’t meet exactly but hua cheng stops some fight or something and helps xie lian indirectly or maybe xie lian is performing on the street in some costume and hua cheng doesn’t recognize him and smiles and gives him a coin or smth. idk i’m just dying for any sorta extra chapter or fic like that. i’m honestly so tempted to write my own but i cant write

also!! we’ve seen how xie lian picks up people down on their luck near him and show them kindness (like banyue, lang ying, xiao ying, he tried to with san lang but we know how that ended lmao) so i’d love to see another little vignette of him doing that on his travels and how every person he meets teaches him smth about life and being a good person and idk, i just think it’d be rlly sweet. i love this facet of his character and feel like we didn’t see enough of it towards the end.

ALSO hua cheng only seems to respect one heavenly official besides xie lian and thats yushi huang.. i assume thats mostly bc she was the only one to help xie lian and let him use the rain master hat to bring water to yong’an. I was thinking maybe when he was a new supreme he had run into trouble and maybe was picked up by the rain master and helped him heal and in return he promised to help protect her village from harm in the future. Like i know a heavenly official wouldn’t cooperate with a ghost like that but yushi huang is different and doesn’t really care about the heavens so i think she would protect him if he could do something to benefit her village. ik this is kinda far fetched but when he first became a supreme I’m sure a bunch of ppl probably tried to mess with him and didn’t rlly believe him to be undefeatable bc he hadn’t proved himself yet also i doubt all his power came overnight. he had to learn how to use it once he escaped the kiln. and some group probably thought they could weaken him somehow. I’m thinking maybe a rlly well formed group of ghosts actually caught him off guard once and he had to retreat and was picked up by the rain master and stayed with her and learned from her a bit. i think it’d be a cool concept also i just rlly want more yushi huang content and i’m on their friendship agenda bc he rlly did seem to actually respect her when she first appeared and i think it’d be cool if the two had some history together.

Also idrc if this was addressed I couldve missed it But!! Did xie lian ever tell Hua cheng that the reason he got the curse shackles and was banished again in the first place wasnt bc jun wu wanted to punish him, but because he requested it. And specifically requested it bc he felt guilty abt letting wu ming take the human face disease and disperse for his sake. So he took the shackles and descended to atone for that?? Bc I dont recall hua cheng learning that bc his soul was already dispersed at that point so it didnt follow him and xie lian didnt say anything so uhhh... someone should tell hua cheng that. Like I dont think xie lian rlly said how much hua cheng meant to him and didnt show him he was loved in grand ways. Like xie lian did always care for bc in other ways but I think if hua cheng learned abt this on screen it wouldve been such a great moment and I'm rlly surprised mxtx didnt address this iirc!?!? Like imagine jun wu telling Hua cheng this in the kiln bc xie lian wouldnt say it himself. Imagine how cool that would be.

Also a small thing adding into the whole young ghost king Hua cheng stuff. Its implied and p much stated that hua cheng isnt his real name. That he likely doesnt have a real name bc his parents died? (It's not clear. I'm still mad at mxtx for not making his childhood clearer). So I'd like to see when and why hua cheng chose that name for himself. The new tgcf ending song kinda hints at its meaning with the lyrics "for you I'd fill a city of flowers" as xie lian is the flower wielding martial god so it's probably inspired by that. Also xie lian saved hua cheng from leaping off the city walls but I'd love to hear him say it bc the implication of his name didnt dawn on me for quite a bit and I dont know if everyone made the connection. Again I sure as hell didnt. So itd be cool to see a chapter that takes place in his past after just ascending as a supreme

Overall I rlly think tgcf had a lot more potential to be even better and a lot of that comes down to fleshing out the side characters and letting hualian have more of a storyline independent of one another. like i know the appeal and message of tgcf is that through love, people can overcome anything, but fuck man. i just wanna see what these two (mostly hua cheng) where like in the absence of each others presence. Part of what I really liked abt mdzs is that we got to see that longing develop btw wangxian when the two weren’t together and how they thought about each other and did things in thei others spirit bc they knew the other wouldve done the same thing. but whatever, mxtx was too consumed by her own unhealthy idea of what devotion and true love looks like but still. i rlly think the extras couldve helped the story be better rather than be fujoshi fuel that i try to bleach from my mind -_-

im writing about representation in comics for school and i was wondering who you think are the most prominent asian members of the iron fist comics?

    Oh, neat! 

    There are quite a few Asian characters, and the Iron Fist cast lineup has been shuffled around a lot over the 45 years since the comic started, so it kind of depends on your definition of “prominent”. (For example, there are a few characters who have large presences now, but were only introduced recently, so in the context of Iron Fist continuity they might not be considered prominent.) But based on my personal assessment, here are some of the major players, in no particular order: 

Steel Serpent/Davos

Introductory issue: Iron Fist volume 1 #14

Steel Serpent is arguably the most iconic Iron Fist villain, as well as the most prominent, as he has remained an important figure in Iron Fist comics since his introduction. He was best friends with Danny’s father in K’un-Lun, and believed becoming the Iron Fist was his destiny. However, he failed, and was banished to Earth for trying to illegally acquire the chi of Shou-Lao. He has spent the decades since trying to gain power no matter what, steadily becoming more and more unhinged. 

Lei Kung the Thunderer

Introductory issue: Marvel Premiere #15

Lei Kung is Davos’s father, and until his recent death at his son’s hands, he was K’un-Lun’s war-master/head martial arts instructor. He also served as a father figure for many of his students– sometimes literally (as in the case of Sparrow, mentioned below, and former Iron Fist Wu Ao-Shi, both of whom he basically adopted), and sometimes figuratively, as in Danny’s case. He continued to protect K’un-Lun and help/advise Danny up until his death.

Immortal Weapons

Introductory issue: Immortal Iron Fist #8

I’m including them here as a group, though they are all great characters individually as well. The Immortal Weapons are the super-powered champions of the Seven Capital Cities of Heaven (of which K’un-Lun is a member). Like the Iron Fist, the other Immortal Weapons are also mystical martial artists, but each city’s Weapon has their own specific legacy and power-set. The current batch are all on good terms with each other, and have had several really fun team-ups. 

Colleen Wing

Introductory issue: Marvel Premiere #19

Colleen is one of the oldest Iron Fist characters still appearing in the comic. She was the first friend Danny made upon returning to Earth, and they have remained very close ever since. She is at least half Japanese, on her mother’s side (since Wing isn’t a Japanese last name her father is probably Chinese, but this has never actually been addressed), and she trained with her grandfather in Japan from an early age to become an expert martial artist/samurai. She and her best friend, Misty Knight, co-run the Nightwing Restorations detective agency and are unofficially known as the Daughters of the Dragon.

Lee Wing

Introductory issue: Marvel Premiere #19

Colleen’s father vanished from the comics decades ago, but he was a very important character early-on, so I think he should be included. He was an anthropologist who specialized in Asian folklore traditions.

Sparrow/Yu-Ti

Introductory issue: Immortal Iron Fist #9

Sparrow is the daughter of the previous Iron Fist, Orson Randall (her mother is unknown, but presumably a citizen of K’un-Lun, thus making Sparrow biracial), and she was adopted and raised by Lei Kung. She and Danny were childhood friends and as adults they are semi-romantically involved. Sparrow is one of many K’un-Lun women who learned to fight in secret, and she recently led a feminist revolution that overthrew the government. She is now the city’s new Yu-Ti (ruler) and Thunderer. She was recently blinded by Steel Serpent, but that hasn’t slowed her down. 

Nu-An/Yu-Ti

Introductory Issue: Marvel Premiere #15

The previous Yu-Ti’s whereabouts are currently unknown, but he has been a significant recurring character since the very first issue of the comic. He is Danny’s adopted uncle, and mainly served as an antagonist– lying and scheming behind the scenes to maintain his power. He was indirectly responsible for Danny’s parents’ deaths, tried to kill Danny several times, and was a corrupt leader and all-around unpleasant guy. 

Pei/Iron Fist

Introductory issue: Iron Fist: The Living Weapon #1

Pei is a relatively new character who nevertheless has huge significance for the future of Iron Fist stories. She is a teenage monk from K’un-Lun who acquired the chi of Shou-Lao in an accident, which means she is the next Iron Fist, and will take over the position when Danny dies. Recent comics have covered her origin story and her time living with and training with Danny on Earth, and while she has been absent from the past two runs, logic suggests that she will return. 

Miranda Rand-K’ai/Death Sting

Introductory issue: Iron Fist volume 1 #2

Miranda is not nearly as prominent a character as she should be, in my opinion, but she has been around for a long time and was recently reintroduced back into the comic. She is Danny’s half-sister from his father’s first, K’un-Lun-era marriage. Since her mother was from K’un-Lun, Miranda is biracial (though the art doesn’t tend to reflect this). 

Shang-Chi/Master of Kung Fu 

Introductory issue: Special Marvel Edition volume 1 #15

Shang-Chi isn’t actually an Iron Fist character, though they were created around the same time. He has his own extremely successful comic (and is also getting his own movie soon!). But he is a major Marvel character, and has crossed over with Iron Fist enough over the years that it would have felt wrong to not include him. If you’re examining Asian representation in comics, you’ve got to mention Shang-Chi.

Zaha Hadid Architects reveals design for skyscraper on world's most expensive site

UK architecture studio Zaha Hadid Architects has unveiled its design for a sinuous, glass, 36-storey skyscraper, which will be built in Hong Kong at 2 Murray Road on what is reportedly the world's most expensive plot.

The 36-storey skyscraper in Hong Kong's central business district will be built alongside the Bank of China Tower by IM Pei, and in close proximity to the HSBC building by Foster + Partners.

It will replace a multistorey car park that was purchased by developer Henderson Land for HK$23.3 billion ($3 billion) in 2017, making it the world's most expensive site according to numerous news outlets.

Zaha Hadid Architects' skyscraper will have a glass facade made from a series of curved segments that rise to form two sets of open-air balconies filled with trees.

Directly below the higher balcony, which is located around two-thirds of the way up the skyscraper, will be a planted sky garden. This space will also house a running track.

At the top of the skyscraper, an enclosed banqueting hall will have views across the city.

According to the studio, the building's form was based on the shape of a bud from the Bauhinia plant, which was previously grown near the site and is the flower at the centre of the city's flag.

The skyscraper will have tree-filled balconies and an enclosed sky garden

"The design reinterprets the structural forms and layering of a Bauhinia bud about to blossom," said the studio.

"Known as the Hong Kong orchid tree, the Bauhinia x blakeana was first propagated in the city's botanic gardens above the Murray Road site and its flowering bud features on Hong Kong's flag."

It will be connected to Hong Kong's elevated pedestrian network

The main body of the skyscraper will be elevated above the ground and connected into the city's network of raised pedestrian walkways, with a series of courtyards and gardens placed under the building.

"Echoing the organic forms of the natural world; the redevelopment connects with the adjacent public gardens and parks," explained the studio.

"These tranquil outdoor areas flow into the generous communal spaces of the interior; the craftsmanship and precision of the curved glass facade enhancing this seamless connectivity between the building's interiors and the surrounding gardens and city beyond."

2 Murray Road was designed to look like a Bauhinia bud

The skyscraper, which will be built with a high-tensile steel structure, has been designed to achieve a sustainability rating of LEED Platinum and the highest 3-Star rating in China's Green Building Rating Program.

It will be clad in four-ply, double-laminated, double-curved insulated glass units and all floors will be naturally ventilated.

The skyscraper will be topped by a banquet hall

When it is complete, 2 Murray Road will be Zaha Hadid Architects' second project in the city, along with the 78-metre-high Jockey Club Innovation Tower on the Hong Kong Polytechnic University campus, which opened in 2014.

Founded by the late Zaha Hadid in 1980, Zaha Hadid Architects is now led by Patrik Schumacher. The studio has recently revealed designs for a metro station in Moscow, a stadium in China and a housing complex in Honduras.

more random thoughts as i finish season 2....

some of my favorite moments are when the kids are cheering each other on, its the cutest thing!!! 

he yifan and zuo qibo fanboy screaming over liu ye’s rap in ‘boy in luv’ and yu gengyin and cai xukun’s relay chanting “jin ming!” “jia you!’ and ofc “dai jing” “yao na ka!!!!!” hahahahhaha i love their friendship and i love silly gengyin!!! literally even when getting off the car this ep he was so silly and when he was about to go on stage and he was like aight kids i got this, i love seeing him being less stressed ahhhh

OOF THEY LABELED IT AGAIN 

awww HE WONNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHH when it got announced, i literally clutched my chest and was like ‘my childdddddddddd’ aaaaaahhhhhhhhhh honestly i wasnt gonna be surprised if zuo qibo won this round but IM SO PROUD OF XIAO YU awwwwww he did so well!!!! he like worked really hard to give off a mischievous/ bad boy aura and i think it was such a refreshing and well-executed change for him that it left a strong impression c: whereas qibo is normally already very flower boy / nice guy so i dont think it was as impactful for him to continue playing a role he already embodies normally, altho he was very good-looking on this stage!! but gengyin really went out of his way to try to act cool and carry himself with that kind of aura of handsomeness / arrogance that he’s not really used to portraying and im super proud of him for pulling it off :’) continuously saying ‘我不夠壞’ hahhahhaa but similar to in the sakura stage where he was commended for his powerful stage presence, he’s continuing to build on his new improvements and im super happy he’s still riding on this high c: last ep ‘on rainy days’ i was thriving on hearing his voice smooth over those high notes and this ep’s song wasnt as lyrical, but he still managed to get some vocalizations in and im loving all this extra camera time and focus on his eye smiles. watching gengyin just smile and seeing his eyes crinkle up just makes me so happy inside c: oh! and then when he walks back into the waiting room and hes like “yaayy 努力沒有白費 yaaaaayy!!!!!” im just ooof my heart im so happy for him :’) 

also i gotta say, huadi’s attitude towards liuye is kinda scary? I know theyre all being competitive and thats the nature of this show but like liu ye kept telling him to back off basically (and not even for his own sake, but bc he knew huadi’s dancing intensity was negatively affecting jin ming and also the cohesiveness of their group overall) and huadi was still like ‘i need to show myself off so i can win’ and i felt like his attitude was off, like ‘obviously im the best, thanks’ which later became ‘i cant believe i lost, what did he do better’ whereas liu ye was also very confident but to me he came off as less intense and more calm. like ‘i know im the best, so you can go ahead and try to upstage me, but ill just do my best on my end and quietly watch you sabotage yourself’ at least thats how i perceived it .-. but idk yea i enjoyed watching liu ye more and it felt like huadi was trying too hard. but i am glad that huadi and muti resolved their issues last ep 

daidai’s stage presence during ‘overdose’ tho? he was really handsome!!! i dont normally react much to daidai’s performances but idk this time i really noticed him in contrast to jeffrey and yongju. i think he just seemed more confident than usual and all the little smiles helped. his hair flipping reminded me of muti and his sass LOL 

its really interesting to see cai xukun’s progression through this show and how everyone around him reacts as he goes through this growth process. i would say he wasnt given an absurdly greater amount of screentime but you can tell hes been building up credibility and holds a strong rank among the rest. i would say its not realllyy until the last few eps of season 2 that he pulls ahead of the rest by a significant amount. i was always thinking wu muti was a strong competitor to him but after seeing them and he yifan’s stage, it was pretty clear to me that cxk had successfully exceeded everyone else and ascended to his own level. watching the process through which he gradually builds his now-signature stage presence and now-signature voice is really fascinating and near the end of the season, he already can overshadow everyone else. it seems like huadi is very vocal about how handsome kun has become on stage, yifan doesnt hesitate to admit how good kun is, and gengyin has already admitted early on that they all should learn from kun. zuo qibo is also quick to commend kun but then it seems like muti avoids it? i can kinda guess he might be a bit jealous bc hes always been complimented and lauded on stage but then after he lost so significantly to cxk, im guessing that would be a blow to him. on the show, cxk and wmt both seem very very eager to promote themselves and are very willing to fight for opportunities that they each deem best for themselves. unlike some of the other kids who are more willing to work for the team as a whole more. not that the two of them are bad at teamwork, but i think they definitely arent afraid to demonstrate that they want to stand out and i think thats important in this industry and likely part of how cxk got so ahead. its just interesting to compare this cxk to the cxk on idol producer who knew at that point that he didnt need to fight to stand out because he already did, and he tried so hard to help the other kids around him. 

i feel like i should redo my current ranking list, but i guess with the kids who are on the show this time? (minus the s2 kids, bc lets face it, theyd be at the very bottom anyway) rn its mostly tiered like 1, then 2-7, then 8-10. i appreciate liu ye being a good teacher and leader and the way he yifan seems to be able to joke around with everyone and keep their spirits up. muti’s fireiness kinda scared me in the last few eps but i appreciate that he was mature enough to talk it out with huadi and admit he had been too stressed/riled up lately.

HAHAHAHHA THE PART WHERE ZFZ CHALLENGES THEM TO AN AB BATTLE AND YGY STEPS UP AND EVERYONES IN SHOCK BUT HE JUST RUNS DOWN THE LINE TO PUSH DAIDAI TO THE FRONT HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA i love a true silly boy 

its just so interesting bc the latter half of this season (after ygy gets nominated for elimination i guess) feels like they enjoy giving ygy camera time and attention and esp ep 8 onward hes gotten so much positive feedback ive just been amazed and so happy. and now at the end... you can tell hes really pushing himself bc hes seen that he can do well and that if he really goes above and beyond he really does have a good chance, and seeing his confidence go up with each stage that he performs well is really gratifying and im so proud of him, seeing how determined and driven he is. i just find it funny how confident he is about rap all of a sudden HAHHAHA i mean he did do very well rapping during the sakura stage and the judges did compliment him a lot for it so i cant blame him. 

omgosh the part where the teacher tells muti that he’s already lost to cxk bc cxk got picked during the first round and he hasnt yet....... oof if this is how they talk to him and they keep comparing him to cxk saying their styles are alike but cxk is better, i can see why he’d have some negative feelings towards the matter. the kid’s literally a child, i dont think this is the right way to motivate him....... liu ye patting his head to comfort a pouting muti aw 

because now its my duty to screenshot every time they label his smile !!! and this one even labels it as his “cute signature smile” ahhhHHHH THEY KNOW 

HAHAHHAHA SO I WAS TALKING TO MY SISTER and she sent us pics of her new boyfriend and i was like lol im still single BUT ive been watching a new show and i have a new bias HAHAHAH and i proceeded to show her pictures of yu gengyin i have saved on my phone HAHAHAHHA and she was like “he looks just like your type” HAHHAHAHAHAHA SHE KNOWSSS but yea i was like ‘LOOK HOW SMILEY HE IS!!!” and she was like “the dog is cuter” AHAHAHAHHAHA but its ok shes used to this. and it just reminded me of the time i showed her the ip PPAP perf with zhengting and she like straight up guessed zhengting was my fav in that perf and i was like LOL YES and she was like hE LOOKS LIKE YOUR TYPE hahahHHAHHAHahahhaAHAHAHAH my type is somewhere along the lines of zhengting and gengyin yes. 

huadi’s never-ending battle of fighting to be seen as more than a dancer... to be continued during afo :(

zuo qibo’s struggle of feeling the pressure of being an old man..... feels bad :(

aw he yifan is really so cute. hes def really improved and really doing well, but i feel like his stage presence could still be stronger. its nice to know that during afo he does really shine stage presence-wise and grows to become more mature, more respected, and a group leader as well. 

man its so nice to see daidai really thriving and confident and owning these stages because honestly i feel like on the shows ive seen him in since, including produce camp, hes given me the impression of someone whos lost his confidence and doesnt get to show his skills. i really hope he still has this super-idol version of himself in him because he really shines here, and i think it makes him seem even more handsome than just his appearance alone. oof its just hard bc this show really loves him and the judges really love him and hes so well-supported and encouraged and i think it makes a big difference in his confidence level. i feel like on other shows he hasnt been valued nearly as much and its really sad bc the kid just seems so much less confident.

sigh so i guess its after this that yongju gets kicked out bc china (poor kid...) and then at some point daidai leaves and they randomly add in pinlin after he recovers? even tho he wasnt in like half of season 2? lol but i guess he was never eliminated.... so technically that puts him ahead of zuo qibo in terms of next-in-line to be a vocalist? but i guess honestly everyone knows that if pinlin hadnt left the show due to his injury, he wouldve been the main vocal of leo’s group, not zuo qibo. so i guess in a way as long as pinlin recovered in time, he would be considered the best vocalist to add to swin-s. and then they pull some eliminated kids to become swin-e..... going back to watch the “new world” mv is really a trip every single time. i feel like i watched it for the first time after watching ip and literally only recognized cai xukun, and every time after, i recognized a few more kids, after afo, after pdc, and after finishing super idol 1, i finally recognized all of them. but now, after watching season 2, it feels like i finally actually understand why they got picked and i truly appreciate all 6 of them. I think its really amazing to see yu gengyin go from being ranked #1 in the very first audition on the first season, to being so close to getting eliminated in season 2, to being the last one chosen to get a super card at the end of s2, to being a main vocal in “new world”, and truly truly owning that song. i mean besides cai xukun obviously upstaging everyone with his stage presence as usual, but i mean now when i listen to the song (not even watching the mv) and im really paying attention to who’s singing what part, whose voice really gets to shine and gets to dominate the song, its yu gengyin. maybe im biased or maybe its just expected since he is the main vocal, but i guess it just amuses me that i never noticed that before when i watched this mv without knowing him. now i know whose voice it is that is carrying their debut song and it makes it so special. from listening to later swin songs, i feel like zhao pinlin eventually gets himself a much larger cut of the main vocal position (to the point of surpassing gengyin even?), but i mean that is a whole other story, and i think it does flow into zhao pinlin becoming the ultimate main vocal once gengyin leaves. interestingly zuo qibo never does seem to redeem himself from being any more relevant of a vocal within the group, even tho he was def main vocal of leo’s group on s2 after zhao pinlin left... its like as soon as pinlin leaves he’s needed but when pinlin is there, he’s ignored :( gosh as soon as they announced all the winners and qibo wasnt included, his eyes just became so empty you could see his pain. 

but yes this ends my essay about the last few eps of super idol s2. LOLL i just started compiling my thoughts into larger rant posts bc i didnt want my whole dash to be littered with a bunch of small random posts, so i started collecting my thoughts on a draft as i watched and waited until it got unbearably long to post, such as now. but watching super idol 1 & 2 has been really an eye-opening experience. ive learned a lot about these kids and its truly made me appreciate the year long training they had in korea and the many many struggles and setbacks and unique experiences they had. honestly i feel like swin couldve easily been 8 people aka swin-s plus huadi and zuo qibo, because honestly theyre all very skilled and capable at this point, and huadi and zuo qibo are really on a different level from gouhao and zhu yunlong (sorry kids, i still appreciate yall tho!) since they werent on like a majority of season 2, but i guess it really doesnt matter in the very long run bc of what happened to swin anyway. such a sad sad history for them to bear, but i do hope they can all achieve some kind of success in the future, because theyve really suffered and worked so hard. ill look forward to watching old swin clips for the time being, as i wait not-so-patiently for afo2

With intense practice and event schedules dominating an idol’s life, staying fit as well as maintaining a visually appealing appearance is but one of the major keys to an idol’s long-term success. Not only does “looking good” adhere to the aesthetic wishes of the public, but building up one’s stamina avoids many serious injuries idols are susceptible to when they spread themselves too thin.

On October 31st, all trainees are to gather in the Seocho Complex to undergo a physical fitness exam! All trainees will be separated into five alphabetically-sorted groups and the groups will rotate between five designated fitness areas for the duration of the exam. Group A will start at Area 1, Group B will start at Area 2, Group C will start at Area 3, Group D will start at Area 4, and Group E will start at Area 5 for the beginning of the rotation. Each area should take a maximum of 30 minutes for all trainees to complete that area’s fitness requirement.

After the time limit is reached, all groups will rotate to their next area, meaning Group A will move to Area 2; Group B will move to Area 3, and so on. The test will start at 3pm and end at 6pm, with one break at 4:30pm so everyone may relax before continuing on. Before the evaluation begins and once it is concluded, trainees are expected to follow their regular company schedules.

In order to collect +2 DEBUT POINTS and +2 POINTS TO DISTRIBUTE AS YOU WISH, write a four post thread with another trainee from your designated group about the evaluation day. For +1WK RELEVANT SKILL, +2 DEBUT POINTS and +2 POINTS TO DISTRIBUTE AS YOU WISH, write a 250+ word solo about your muse going through at least one of the test areas. All posts must be tagged as #rkoct17eval and be up by midnight EST at the end of October 31st, 2017. Threads may be continued after the deadline, but points can only be collected if the requirements are met before October 31st. 2019 Season 2 APAC Recaps

It was all cheers and shouts when Daniel Kwan hit the game-ending shot that not only won him the match, but also his school’s second APAC table tennis title in a row. “It was a great relief since everyone was stressed from losing a doubles match that was very close and was pretty thrown off their game,” said Kwan. “I was pretty stressed too,” he added. The boy’s table tennis team threaded the needle against HKIS at WAB, winning by a narrow one point. An unconventional tournament format meant that the six members on the APAC squad had to be split into two teams of three, playing other teams of three towards an aggregate school score in a best of five format. There was no bracket play, rather, teams accrued points by winning matches – one point per win and none for a loss. As the tournament approached its eleventh hour, the combined SASPX teams had a one-point lead on HKIS. Playing against their Pudong counterparts, the team had to win at least one of their final two matches if they wanted to retain their APAC title. The team lost a reportedly pugnacious, and close, doubles match in which three players were given yellow cards for bad sportsmanship. It was up to Daniel to deliver the team their victory, and they were ecstatic when he did. “It is really hard to describe how excited I was when we won,” said Jon Shih, a junior on the team. “Especially after that toxic doubles match, I’m just so glad we won.” That was the team event. There were also singles and doubles brackets, but this year’s team didn’t excel in either of those. Chris Shih and Myles Zhou, both seniors, finished sixth in the doubles rankings, and they “didn’t expect much more,” said Chris. Nonetheless, the team shifted the tides to work in their favor, even against better individual players. “We do not have players with the best individual skill,” said Chris, who also is this year’s captain. “We are strongest as a team, and I think our win for the school really shows that.”   The rest of the tournament typified a good experience for Chris. “Super performance from everyone on the team, it was much better than the coach’s expectations,” he said. “There was also a lot of laughter and positivity, and I will miss it next year for sure.”

The girl’s APAC followed an identical tournament format. In the team event they placed third, and they had some well-deserved singles and doubles results. Aily Nishioka, the senior captain of the team, had a remarkable fourth place finish in the singles event. In a surprising twist, all six of the players made it past their preliminary rounds in the doubles event, effectively making almost forty percent of the final playoff bracket SASPX. “It was really exciting when all six of our players made it into the championship bracket for doubles,” said Shannon Ooi, a sophomore. “It turned out to be our strongest event.”

While they were not as successful as the boys in the team event, by no means did they not perform well. “Everyone tried their best and played at their finest level, said Chu Chuan Wu, a senior. “Aily was also constantly there leading the team and motivating the players.” When they weren’t ping ponging balls across the net, the team glued well and spent the majority of their free time with each other. “We definitely had a lot of team bonding during the event,” said Chu Chuan. “During lunch, dinner, bus rides, and in the room.”

      On Thursday, January 24th, SAS Puxi hosted the opening ceremony of APAC Forensics, kicking off a week of exciting debates, impassioned performances, and speeches that touched, provoked, and impacted. SAS Puxi went into the event with heavy expectations on their shoulders, being the defending APAC champions for the fourth year in a row. Moreover, the team went in with a certain degree of trepidation – the team lost 6 seniors last year, all of whom were experts in their field of performance.

"We had no idea what to expect going into APAC. In previous years, our team had been about equally strong across the board, but our team composition this year was almost entirely new," remarks senior Matt Song, with senior Marcus Khoo adding that "[they] stood on the shoulders of giants" in past years, but now had to face an uncertain competition without the alumni.

In spite of this, however, the Puxi Forensics team practiced endlessly and adapted, walking out of the tournament as champions for the 5th year in a row! Remarkably, the young team achieved great success with "at least one finalist in every category, and all three speakers broke to finals for Extemporaneous and Impromptu speaking," according to Matt Song. This was particularly impressive given that despite most members in impromptu being new to APAC forensics, all got into finals. These points were all fundamental in allowing Puxi to edge past Concordia to claim the championship title.

Particularly, junior Ted Chang shone, with him managing to place in Solo Acting despite having been "put out of his comfort zone" in an event completely new to him, according to Marcus Khoo. He also placed in the finals of Debate, and as 2nd best individual speaker in each event. Additional individual highlights include Marcus Khoo winning debate and placing second in impromptu, Annelise Vella placing in finals for both Original Oratory and Solo Acting, and Matt Song placing 3rd in Impromptu and winning the title of champion and best speaker in debate.

Marcus Khoo and Matt Song jointly swept through the debate tournament, winning the vote of every judge they presented to. In addition to these stand out performances though, Matt Song also remarks that "we retained consistency across other events as well, and every single one of our speakers had cause for pride in this tournament.” Although the team will be losing two seniors, (Matt and Marcus), this year's APAC has proven that the juniors and underclassmen have what it takes to continue to Puxi legacy of winning APAC. "It's a really really great thing to see the that the younger members of the team are rising up to the occasion, especially given that we lost a lot of specialists in events over the last couple of years," remarks Marcus. If this year's performances are anything to go by, we can be sure that SAS Puxi Forensics will continue to harness words and emotions to delight, entertain, and ultimately compete.

SAS SWIM TEAM FINISHES STRONG AT APAC:

BOYS 3RD, GIRLS 4TH OVERALL

The SAS swim team delivered an impressive performance at this year’s APAC Swimming Championships, held at WAB. There were new records, top-place finishes, and personal bests abound on both the boys’ and girls’ teams.

The boy’s team finished strong in 3rd place. Freshman Rafael Gu delivered a truly outstanding performance, smashing previous APAC records in all five of his events; he currently holds the APAC swimming records for 100 free (49.79 seconds), 50 back (26.28), 100 IM (57.68), 100 back (57.03), and 200 free (1:49.49). “I felt like there were parts of my race that needed a little more polishing,” Gu remarks, “but overall I am proud of my times and performance.” Gu and juniors Nolan Liu, and Barron Han, and Brian Lung also broke the previous APAC record in the boys’ 4x50 medley relay, placing second behind the ISB team. “We all swam personal bests,” says Han. “ISB just beat us for the gold.” Other highlights include Liu’s first place finishes in 100 and 50 fly, as well as Liu and Han placing second and third respectively in 200 IM.

The girl’s team also delivered a solid performance, placing 4th overall. Sophomore Annalie Yu broke her own APAC record for 50 back during the prelims, and went on to place second in the official event. Yu also placed second for 50 free and third for the 100 back event. In addition, sophomore Ava Romanelli, junior Jacqueline Cheng, and seniors Renee Pearce and Meilee Sharan came in third place for the 200 free relay. “We went beyond our expectations,” says Cheng. Other notable finishes include sophomore Emelie Edberg placing third for 50 breast and Yu, Sharan, Edberg, and senior Annie Chen’s combined 4th place finish in the 200 medley relay.

Beyond their times and placements, the SAS swim team is connected by their shared grit and perseverance, which has taken them far in their own performances as well as their support of each other. “When we’re walking to the blocks we can see and hear our teammates in the stands cheering us on,” says Cheng, adding: “I’m proud of the resilience of our team. Sometimes we do run into challenges…but we have the ability to reunite and encourage each other.” Gu agrees: “Even though our team was struggling to get a high ranking, we didn't give up and we kept on trying our best.”

Super APAC Basketball

Varsity Girls Takes 3rd Place, and Varsity Boys Finishes 7th

This year, Super APAC basketball took place at HKIS for boys and Concordia for girls, and both teams fought admirably in tough games to end the season.

Despite a finishing second in their group after the initial round robin, the Varsity Girls advanced to the semifinals with tough wins against worthy competition. In the first round of elimination, the team came out with a 46-45 win over SFS behind an explosive 15-point quarter from Alice Qin. In the quarterfinals, the Varsity Girls upset the defending APAC champions, SAS Pudong, after tremendous shooting performances from Kaitlyn Shi (5 threes) and Julia Markmann. Unfortunately, the team fell to Brent in the semifinals after Brent was able to pull away late in the 4th quarter. Even with the tough loss, they redeemed themselves in a 37-31 win against AISG to secure a third place finish. 

Julia Markmann also became the all-time leading scorer for the SASPX Girls Basketball program, breaking alumni Candice Choi’s record after the third game of the tournament.

Although it was an imperfect finish to the season, the growth that the team underwent outweighed the end results. “Even though we started the season with many losses— at one point having a 7-game losing streak— we came back and didn’t stop playing.” Julia Markmann said. “The whole team improved and stepped up their game.”

“We lost in the semifinals, but we finished with a huge win” Julia concluded. “I’m glad to have been able to experience our mass improvement from the first game to the last game we played.”

The Varsity boys started the tournament with an impressive 48-31 win over ISB in the round robin game, but fell to Brent to finish as a second seed in their group. After blowing out UNIS in a 55-24 win in the first round of elimination, the team unfortunately fell to HKIS in a 5-point loss in the quarter finals. The team had another tough 10-point loss against SFS to drop to the 7/8 game, but finished with a 27-point win against WAB to place 7th in the tournament.  

The team obviously fell short of its goals, but it continued to play its hardest. “We kept on playing strong and finished each game with all our efforts.” Lucas Meyring said. “We went into each game with a positive mindset thinking that we are not going to back down from any challenge.”

The tournament was also an event that extended beyond the activities on the court. “Other than basketball, APAC was the perfect opportunity for team bonding.” Lucas explained. “I learned a lot about my teammates, not just as basketball players, but as people off the court, and hopefully our relationship will carry on through the future.”

The JV teams also experienced success in their end-of-season tournament. The JV boys finished first in JAPAC while the JV girls finished third.

Zaha Hadid Architects reveals design for skyscraper on world's most expensive site

UK architecture studio Zaha Hadid Architects has unveiled its design for a sinuous, glass, 36-storey skyscraper, which will be built in Hong Kong at 2 Murray Road on what is reportedly the world's most expensive plot.

The 36-storey skyscraper in Hong Kong's central business district will be built alongside the Bank of China Tower by IM Pei, and in close proximity to the HSBC building by Foster + Partners.

It will replace a multistorey car park that was purchased by developer Henderson Land for HK$23.3 billion ($3 billion) in 2017, making it the world's most expensive site according to numerous news outlets.

Zaha Hadid Architects' skyscraper will have a glass facade made from a series of curved segments that rise to form two sets of open-air balconies filled with trees.

Directly below the higher balcony, which is located around two-thirds of the way up the skyscraper, will be a planted sky garden. This space will also house a running track.

At the top of the skyscraper, an enclosed banqueting hall will have views across the city.

According to the studio, the building's form was based on the shape of a bud from the Bauhinia plant, which was previously grown near the site and is the flower at the centre of the city's flag.

The skyscraper will have tree-filled balconies and an enclosed sky garden

"The design reinterprets the structural forms and layering of a Bauhinia bud about to blossom," said the studio.

"Known as the Hong Kong orchid tree, the Bauhinia x blakeana was first propagated in the city's botanic gardens above the Murray Road site and its flowering bud features on Hong Kong's flag."

It will be connected to Hong Kong's elevated pedestrian network

The main body of the skyscraper will be elevated above the ground and connected into the city's network of raised pedestrian walkways, with a series of courtyards and gardens placed under the building.

"Echoing the organic forms of the natural world; the redevelopment connects with the adjacent public gardens and parks," explained the studio.

"These tranquil outdoor areas flow into the generous communal spaces of the interior; the craftsmanship and precision of the curved glass facade enhancing this seamless connectivity between the building's interiors and the surrounding gardens and city beyond."

2 Murray Road was designed to look like a Bauhinia bud

The skyscraper, which will be built with a high-tensile steel structure, has been designed to achieve a sustainability rating of LEED Platinum and the highest 3-Star rating in China's Green Building Rating Program.

It will be clad in four-ply, double-laminated, double-curved insulated glass units and all floors will be naturally ventilated.

The skyscraper will be topped by a banquet hall

When it is complete, 2 Murray Road will be Zaha Hadid Architects' second project in the city, along with the 78-metre-high Jockey Club Innovation Tower on the Hong Kong Polytechnic University campus, which opened in 2014.

Founded by the late Zaha Hadid in 1980, Zaha Hadid Architects is now led by Patrik Schumacher. The studio has recently revealed designs for a metro station in Moscow, a stadium in China and a housing complex in Honduras.
