“To me, the one basking in infinite glory is you, the one fallen from grace is also you. What matters is you, and not the state of you.”
I believe Hua Cheng came to understand this after the fall of XianLe!
When Xie Lian saved Hong Hong er, he was still just a kid. He didn’t see Xie Lian as a person, but rather his prince or his god, and mainly his savior. This savior of his, in his eyes, was a light that couldn’t be extinguished, an invincible hero (which is expected from a little boy’s perspective). It’s after the fall of XianLe that Hua Cheng probably truly realizes that while his prince is still very much a light, his light, that light could absolutely dim. The illusion faded, and he finally realized: the crown prince of XianLe, the darling of the heavens, his highness who pleased the gods, and the one who saved him is not invincible. His god, now brutally exposed as Xie Lian, also needs protection.
Ghost fire Hua Cheng is when his motive was solidified, since.. he gently tells Xie Lian himself. I’m not a detective. But then “Wu Ming” comes along, and the fact that he sticks around while Xie Lian constantly berates him is the ultimate proof that Hua Cheng only sees Xie Lian now, whether he is a prince, a calamity, or an omen of misfortune. Seeing Xie Lian as “his savior” does not change through his growth, though. It only evolves into something deeper, “his beloved.”
but that’s just me idk

To celebrate 250 posts of Yu-Gi-Oh madness, I drew a quick chibi of Yuma Tsukumo, the embodiment of that number.
Why do I say that? Because 250, or ㄦˋ ㄅㄞˇ ㄨˇ is a Chinese slang term for an Idiot.

hua cheng being terrified of spiders (and xie lian accommodating him)
-hong hong-er spots a spider and screams. he remembers how his father had trapped him in a room with them, tied up and helpless. dozens of bites, poisons mixing in his blood—it's a truly terrifying memory. xie lian notices and carefully leads hong hong-er away, silently instructing for feng xin or mu qing to get rid of it.
-wu ming is startled. he tries to hide it, but he cant help inch aeay from the spider. scoffing when he sees this, xie lian steps on the spider cruelly and digs his foot in the ground.
-san lang tried to be cool. keyword: tried. he fails, retreats, and refuses to go into the shrine until xie lian brings the spider to the forest.
-hua cheng had a strict rule in ghost city: no spiders. xie lian was amused at this obvious weakness. he was less amused when bai wuxiang used it against him.
inspired by the spider that is now suffocating, ten feet away from my room.

Meta on the symbolism of the bamboo hat in tgcf
"Man in the abyss recieves a bamboo hat in rain"
While the simple act of receiving a bamboo hat illustriously reinstated xie lian's belief towards the prevalence of kindness leaping over the barbed fences of impending doom and essentially pulled him out of the harrowing chokehold of the abyss both metaphorically and literally, however when xie lian mirrored the same action towards jun wu, he seemed to have missed the boat with his inherent rejection of the heart being buoyant in the echelons of paradise even when the body is drilled into the deafening isolation of the abyss.
And it's interesting how the entire exchange of events of the final battle takes place on the desecrated heaven-crossing bridge that was originally designed to relocate the helpless and desperate to the safe hands of 'paradise'/heaven, yet the ones battling on its stairs (xie lian and mu qing) were restricted with cursed shackles infused with a reminder of their banishment, them being rejected by the gallant gates of heaven, nailing them to the 'abyss'. (Like isn't it ironic how jw constructed the bridge for his people to migrate to heaven yet, right now jw barred xl and mq from entering heaven bc he banished them and also voluntarily attempted to drown them into the /abyss/ bc the void beneath the bridge was saturated with resentful spirits inhabiting the scorching lava) Which is predominantly why xie lian's cursed shackles shattering on the same bridge is a symbolism of his ever-so anticipated liberation.
"Indomitable to the point he couldn't control his own powers, each step would shake the mountains. One step to go a thousand miles, one step to ascend to the heavens!"
On the ghastly intersection of lang-er bay, white-no-face pulled the sword out of xie lian, however that didn't relieve him of his resentment laced with pain or pull him out of the abyss; the bamboo hat did and it figuratively functioned as a catalyst to restore his (otherwise dissipating) faith in the amicability of humanness. On the heaven-crossing bridge however, xie lian never attempted to pull the sword out of jun wu, doing so wouldn't have reversed his pain that had morphed into dejection and vengeance culminating in his system for centuries, or introduced him to the compassion of humanness anew, instead xl gave him the bamboo hat.
"To ascend is human; to fall is also human". Xie lian covering jun wu with the bamboo hat that once restored his faith in humanity was ultimately washed away by the tides of futility, for jun wu's transcendence into destruction dehumanised him beyond repair as he ultimately fell. Jun wu never needed cursed shackles to restrain himself, his unceasingly vague sense of identity had trapped him into an echochamber of self-loathing and violence mirroring the barbaric slaughtering of ghosts trapped in the kiln of mount tong'lu, or the blunt shards of glasses bearing the monstrous image of his own reflection.
Xie lian didn't need an article such as a bamboo hat to hold onto as a reminder to not go astray anymore, he held onto that hat for centuries and with time he had to leave it behind with someone because now he had hua cheng by his side who'd always be the indestructible pillar of support for him to hold onto.

This a rewrite of a thing I posted on twit a while ago, and wasn't sure if I should post it here, because I know A/B/O stuff can be real hit or miss with people. I'm still not sure how to tag this, so please let me know if there are any I need to add, so people can block it if they want, but anyway here we go.
Xie Lian is an omega with a very rare ability to pick up unique scents. basically as close as I can get to how I think scent might actually work in the animal kingdom. Everyone has their own scent to him that he can't describe to anyone else but it lets him know things like family relations, health, and even the moods of people around him. The ability is so rare there is no one else who can really understand what this is like for him, which could be a whole set of issues on its own when you think about it. I initially came up with the idea as a way Xie Lian would know Hong-er was the same kid he saved every time he ran into him, and that even a ghost with a human form will carry the same scent they did while alive. So he wouldn't know ghost fire Hong-er was Hong-er, but he would immediately recognize Wu Ming.
Then I realized Jun Wu would have no idea how to hide his scent from Xie Lian, and Bai Wuxiang would have the exact same scent! I had no idea where to go with this one after that.

Other relatives/"relatives" around Wu Xie and the Kids
Wu Meifen/ Wu-nainai - Grandmother and Great-grandmother. Very proud. Handles the legal site of the Wu family. Raises only the best dogs. Certified badass (as in she has a slip of paper framed proclaiming that she can kick anyones ass signed by Foye. **Foye!**.) Ready to kick Granny Hous (she was still alive in DMBJ2) ass anytime. Li Cu is her favourite but she spoils any of the children rotten. Has found a succesor in Yang Hao. Is only going to kick the bucket after Granny Huo. Has a spoiling competition going on with Zhang Rishan. Ready to slap her dumb Sons and her dumb Grandson. Retired feral.
Zhang Rishan - *Grandfather*. Adores Wu Xie and the children. Ready and willing to strangle Xiaoge (for whatever reason). Spoils the children rotten. Ready to throw down for any of those kids. Had a long conversation with LCs teacher once. The man might have pissed his pants. Insists on each of the children getting an education. Lets Yang Hao intern in the Hotels kitchen whenever he wants. Will deny liking Wu-nainais egg tarts to the day he dies. Yang Hao is his favourite.
Shades - The cool uncle, teacher to Su Wan. Su Wan is his favourite. Ready to murder for that child. Hands out candy to Su Wan and Li Cu anytime though. Not immune to the puppy eyes. Is able to calm a fight between Liu Sang and Pangzi. Is able to start an arguement between Bai Haotian and Li Cu. Tought Yang Hao to make drug candies.
Er-shu - the strict uncle/granduncle. Willing to kill for the kids. Ready to kill the kids. Can't keep up with them. Spoils them secretly. What *Grandfather* and Grandmother gift in monetary form or with smth else he gifts in experience and training. Li Jiale is his favourite. (Li Jiale is after LC the nicest one. Accidently threw a bowl at Su Wans head once no body lets him forget it.) Sets rules, is able to enforce them. The kids respect him.
Papa Wu & Mama Wu - Currently living in Kairo. Send letters and call a lot. Send a lot of gifts and puzzles. Take care of the Tiger Trio when they are staying in Kairo for University. Are highkey worried for everyone. Bai Haotian has been their favourite so far. Once the trio touches down in Kairo it is Yang Hao (somehow he has become the voice of reason).

Hi! I really like your meta and insights into characters, so I'd love to hear your take on certain events in book 4.
What do you think Wu Ming was doing during those two days Xie Lian was lying on the ground, pierced with a sword?
It's actually quite hard for me to imagine what Xie Lian could've said to him or threatened him with to make Wu Ming obey him and not follow him for a few days... Xie Lian originally stabbed himself right in front of Wu Ming's eyes and probably told him to go somewhere else afterwards. And I just can't get my head around how Xie Liang managed to convince Wu Ming to not do anything about it right in the moment, and then to leave him unattended for a couple days. I guess there's something to be said for obedience here, but with Xie Lian doing something that has caused him so much pain in the past in front of his eyes, it's hard for me to understand how Wumin could've stayed away, since he was already clearly quite disturbed even before Xie Lian stabbed himself
Hello there!
That's something I've also wondered for a long time, to be honest. Frankly, my only explanation has been that Xie Lian kind of just... yeet'd himself away, and without knowing exactly where, Wu Ming had to search for him. That it was too far for Wu Ming to get there quickly. I don't think Xie Lian gave him any orders or anything, and even if he did, Wu Ming would not have obeyed.
It kind of makes sense because the cut-away says "the next day" -- so it took a day itself for Xie Lian to drop down in Lang-Er Bay. Perhaps that location really was far from where the two originally were. Though, I can't help but feel there would be a commotion, and word-of-mouth would get out that something weird was up in Lang-Er Bay. That being said, no government officials or soldiers or anything came to investigate (as far as I remember), so perhaps not?
Regardless, once Bai Wuxiang came over and started messing around and gathering ghastly spirits, etc etc etc -- I think that would be an unmistakable sign pointing to the right location, allowing Wu Ming to rush over.
That was first impression of that whole thing, and I think it works, anyway. Hopefully my explanation made sense to you! I'm very curious to see if this was changed in the Revised Version, actually. It seems like one of the things MXTX would have revisited.

I've dug myself into a hole, writing wise. I'm going to have to pull something truly unique. Bring out the galaxy brain. Become a machine to understand the machine. Become God.
Xie Lian wasn't supposed to know Hong-er was Wu Ming until like, the Lang er bay equivalent 😂💀💀 which is a ways away HAH! I just...am not a fan of "misunderstanding" plotlines unless the misunderstandings can be rightfully justified. I could no longer justify it anymore, so I just. Went for it.
I'm going to die 😭
(This next update may take me closer to two weeks instead of one. Curses working full time and having to make money in order to survive 😤)
