The Maryland/National Guard ship will never not be one of my favorite ships. It’s top tier to me, literally chocolate strawberries and melted gold. Its marshmallow fluff on hot coco with chocolate shavings. It’s awesome okay?

Just National Guard who doesn’t know how to love, has never been showed love or kindness, body-guarding one of the sweetest states. He’s cold and rough, like a stone in a dry freezing land, until the sun comes with its blossoming flowers and warm days.

Maryland who is so sweet and adventurous dragging National Guard with him, the usual stone faced and tense muscled guy with no other purpose but his job. It would take so long for Maryland to finally get National Guard to crack, to embrace his love and soft touches and to help him understand that no, this isn’t a punishment or a test, but it’d be so worth it in the end.

National Guard is still learning and trying to accept it, but its hard when all you’ve been shown is coldness and pain.

Heres a short story since I got possessed by the MD/NG gods:

“What are you doin, hun?” Laying on the floor, Maryland stared up at the statue-like Guard, standing so still and facing the door. It was almost eery to wake up to someone standing perfectly still over you, as if not even a god could tip him over, but that was just how National Guard was.

Not even turning his head to face the sleepy state, he responded, quick and to the point. “Watching over you.”

He stared, and then looked around, and stared again, before questioning why it was necessary to do so. “We are in my house, though? there is no threat here.”

“There could be. I can’t risk it.” Still short and cutting, he allowed himself to look at Maryland for a second, moving his eyes back to the door immediately after. If he were to slip up once, risk Maryland’s life- he wouldn’t know what to do. Well, he did know something he would do, but he didn’t want to think on it.

Lazily, she lifted his arm up and pulled at his side. “Will you at least get some sleep? You look tired, hun.”

“On the floor?”

He paused, remembering he had fallen asleep in the middle of working on a school project for his son. Deciding against getting up— she was comfortable and didn’t want to risk National Guard refusing to sleep in his bed, and then not sleep at all —he nodded, “Yes, on the floor.”

He looked down at her, his eyebrow raised. “Who’s gonna watch over you then?” To be honest, he was a little tired. He couldn’t remember the last time he had slept.

“Me.” She smiled, pointing at herself with his thumb. “I am pretty good at it too. It’s not like i’ve lived 236 years.” He teased. “Now come here, it’s actually pretty comfortable on the ground.” Scooting over, she made room for him, patting the ground softly.

Hesitantly, he moved to lay on the floor, keeping his hands near his sides so he could quickly reach his gun if need be.

“See, that wasn’t so bad!” Maryland smiled, “Is that really how you sleep though? I don’t mean to be mean but it looks a little uncomfortable.”

National Guard nodded, “It’s how I was taught to sleep. Besides, at least I don’t look like a dramatic princess when I sleep.”

“Dramatic Queen, actually.” He giggled.

National Guard snorted, surprising himself. He hadn’t felt comfortable enough to let out a small laugh since…

About to comment on it until she saw his face, he decided against it. “Well, you better get to sleep so I can start guarding you hun.” He raised a hand to his forehead, mimicking a salute.

“Fine, fine. But are you sure-“

“I’ve never been sure of anything in my life. Now go to sleep.”

Taking the distraction, National Guard nodded and closed his eyes. No, he wouldn’t be going to sleep, but if it were to help Maryland feel good, he’d pretend for her. It was confusing and a little concerning how quickly Maryland could get him like this, but he’d box it up and ignore it for as long as he could.

“Goodnight, hun.”

He chose not to respond.

Can we have some Maryland headcannons?

Mary! This one was a little tricky so tysm

He’s definitely the mom friend for all the states. No one actually hates him or even really dislikes him. He’s always making sure no one gets in trouble and will definitely bust you out of jail- no questions asked. He’s always got icepacks and bandaids on hand just in case.

Marys also always there if anyone needs to talk. He’s s surprisingly good at being a therapist.

Not to mention he can also cook decently well, and will frequently cook with Tex or Loui to make dinner.

He definitely feels left out a lot of time since his state doesn’t really hit into any specific region, but he doesn’t let it affect him too much. As long as everyone’s happy!

He’s scared of dogs, especially the little ankle biters but he never wants to be rude to the owners so he’ll go extremely out of his way to avoid the dog.

Mary loves s’mores and campfires and campfire stories and the whole gist.

I don’t really ship for this fandom (yet- caliyork is growing on me) but Mary is definitely queer, he just hasn’t had the time to really figure himself out.

North Pole, Alaska appearance ⁉️ genderfluid queen king thing. The holiday spirit is for all the gender out there 💪 ngl a really fun design for me! I imagine she got rosea cuz. Santa roses cheeks or something. Perhaps they are a elementary (perhaps kindergarten to 2nd or 3rd??) school teacher when they are off their holiday hours!! That would be sweet I think :) but he don’t really have any jobs during summer other than taking care of his pet reindeer—which yes, in North Pole there is a public reindeer ranch, yes, you can go pet them— and working at the Santa Workshop, so she gets a lil (very very) down during summer 😔 pooh fimbly
