KAREEM NAZARI IN THE DESERT OTHERWORLD WHEN

The new episode brings back up the question, what is Cecil's full name?
Most of us assume Gershwin is his middle name, but there's always been confusion on if it's actually a hyphenated last name (Gershwin-Palmer)
On the WTNV site you can find a list of character names and how they're spelled, and it's not hyphenated there
But if you search through the scripts, it's a mixed bag
Yes, he is more often referred to as Cecil Gershwin Palmer, but it's always when he refers to himself (33, 65, 127, 182, 206)
Wheras, others always refer to him as Gershwin-Palmer. Lubelle in 225 calls him "Mr. Gershwin-Palmer" twice, Sara Iyer of the Purrrcast in 190 receives an email from "Cecil Gershwin-Palmer", and Station Management in 217 address a memo to "Cecil Gershwin-Palmer"
The only outlier is when Cecil himself is naming Khoshekh in 159 "Khoshekh Gershwin-Palmer", which is where this whole debate even started I believe
But, now with Esteban referring to Cecil's father as "Grampa Gershwin", the issue has been dug back up
Could it be because Cecil seems to not be mentally able to retain any information on his father, that he just assumes Gershwin is his middle name? Perhaps he 'accidentally' writes a hyphen on any important documents like the cat show entry forms or an inquiring email to a podcast? Or perhaps it's still up to viewer interpretation, like most of the show

i think with the events of the recent episode, it’s important to recognise that was dr.Lubelle is doing is not explaining things.
that’s not why sarah sultan died, because when joseph and kareem went to her to try and figure out a way back to the ‘’real’’ world, she shrugged their experiences off as delusions. she didn’t actually explain WHY there are doubles for everyone (probably reality-converging timeline shenanigans), she made them think they had gotten an answer, when we know for a FACT that joseph fink is not from night vale, we heard him get trapped.
And then she went off to try and find dana to dig up the grave of her (not?)double, so she could make up some half-baked explanation about it and gaslight literally everyone, including us the listeners, about the events that we literally heard go down.
She isn’t explaining shit because she doesn’t understand wHY night vale is like this, she just wants everything to fit her version of reality. so basically I’m saying dr lubelle killed sarah sultan in some other fucked up way

Okay, elaborating on that thought right now, actually but following my unfounded assumption that the woman the last episode feature was, in fact, Sarah Sultan, and she had just turned into a rock sometime after presumably moving into a rock (I do not have the Sarah Sultan lore fresh, shhh), I started thinking about how, well, that concept isn't really that out there for Night Vale, is it?
Night Vale as a town is very alive. When it likes you, you will know. And when it doesn't, you will know too.
I think about Carlos, who didn't quite belong even when he wanted desperately too. He was kicked out by the old oak doors and in his hurt he stayed away, but only when he admitted what mattered to hm, when he accepted Night Vale WAS now his home, Night Vale accepted him as one of his own as well.
As he says in Ten Years Later, he doesn't need a piece of paper to tell him he belongs in his home.
Now I think about Huntokar, about how her love for Night Vale destroyed it, about how she wanted nothing more than to preserve this place and its people because she loved them, and in doing that, she doomed them, she kept them apart and wasting away far apart from the world.
I think about how Night Vale's love is jealous in the same way Huntokar's was. About how it loves Kareem, with his skepticism, with his refusal to see things differently from how he knew them to be, and still he didn't really dislike Night Vale in the same way Lubelle and her scientists did. And so the town loved Kareem and it wanted to keep him and in wanting to keep him it made it so he wouldn't have a place to go back to, his family forgetting him, a perfect replacement in place. Because Kareem was Night Vale's now.
Night Vale changes its people and make them its own in the same way Huntokar did. It's an echo of love that destroys and yet it keeps them protectively, lovingly, it doesn't seek to harm, she's not a cruel goddess and the town isn't a cruel town. It just claims their own and when it does, it changes them to be like it.

Sexiest Podcast Character — Night Vale Bracket — Round Β
Tumblr media
Propaganda
Kevin:
He could make me worse
Kevin is just Cecil but if he was like injected with corporate toxic positivity… also he like guts people to use as decor
Former Intern Kareem Nazari (and his double):
Long black hair, green eyes, birthmark like a salamander on his hand. Found out night vale rendered him as a new person and replaced him in his original home and has gone a bit feral and kidnappy about it. Extremely sexy. Cool roller-skates.

A brief break from my Carlos slandering angst warpath for Kareem 🧡
I adore Kareem and the doubles drama of the recent arc has been one of the many things bringing me a great amount of delight.
I think I drew this around episode 217 but looking at it reminds me of the sheer delight I felt when he narrated episode 203. Love me some guest voices. In other news, I can tell the Nightvale brainrot has gotten bad, as my default is now to say “michtigan” lol

Y'all I was so worried for Kareem and Joseph Fink (isn't he still in town??)
I was really hoping that Janet Lubelle would just look up and see the dark planet of awesome size, an invisible titan, all thick, black forests, jagged mountains, and deep, turbulent oceans and fucking drop dead
Or that she would end up in the Desert Otherworld
But I'll take a dead cow crushing her.

Okey okey okey I am at year 10 in nightvale and was anyone going to tell me about the GLORY that is the nightvale is real arc!??!???!!!! Literally listeners questions is up there with guidelines for disposal and things fall apart for my all time favorite episodes- the return of Kareem, all the other podcasters coming in for the year nine finale (as a whole year nine is probably my least favorite year despite the fact that most the episodes individually are amazing so it really nice that it had such a strong finale) it doesn’t look like there are that many episodes in this arc unfortunately but JESUS CHRIST IT WAS AMAZING
